[ROOT]Samsung Galaxy S2 Wimax Root Guide - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Kinda new at this but decided to give it a shot. There are many variants of the SG2 and recently in Japan, AU Kddi released a beast...
As reported by gsmarena.com-"The Galaxy S II ISW11SC has a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, 1.4GHz dual-core Qualcomm QSC6085 processor, 8 megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, 2 megapixel front camera, 16GB internal memory, expandable memory, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC."
But being released in Japan there isn't much support for rooting on this phone. Part of the problem is most of its support and forums are in Japanese. After post a thread question, user tora201 showed me the light. He came across a japanese website with a super simple root for this phone. I decided to post it for all of us to use it with some simple instructions. Thanks tora201 for the help. None of this work is mine and all credit goes to the respective creators.
ROOT SCH-ISW11SC Samsung Galaxy S2 Wimax:
1.) Head over to this blog page, http://blog.livedoor.jp/kz_gin/archives/cat_136988.html, and download the two .zip files towards the bottom. They have the labels change_recovery_ISW11SC.zip, and root_ISW11SC.zip...or just use the attachments below...lol
2.) Copy the .zip files to a sd card. tora201 suggested using just an extra one you may have around. Place the sd card in your phone.
3.) With your phone powered off hold Volume Up, Home Button, and the Power Button at the same time until the phone boots into recovery mode.
4.) Using the Volume buttons and the Home Button as a select button, choose the change_recovery.zip from the sd card. (Y'all should know how to navigate these types of menus well, will help those that don't)
5.) Reboot the phone. Now power off the phone again and repeat step 3. Your phone should boot in to Clockworkmod Recovery. The Recovery is now navigated via the touch screen not the keys or buttons!!
6.) Like before go, select install .zip from sd....find your sd card and select root_.zip..then reboot....you should now notice Super User in your App Drawer!!!
Download Root Checker Basic to verify root access. Reinstall your primary sd card and your good to go!!
The only trouble I ran into was when installing the root.zip, it would not detect my external sd card. Repeatedly said "No Files Found". So I restarted the phone, went into the File Explorer, tracked down the root.zip on my external sd card, copied it to my internal sd card. Reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery, tracked down the root.zip through the same steps above expect in my internal sd card. Worked with no charm. Im not a programmer or anything like that, so if you guys have any questions I'll try to answer them the best I can. Thanks and good luck...As always not responsible for any damage to your phone..Come on though, this one is too easy to screw up...lol

yeah but this is a question tread

Thanks for doing Cezeff. I suppose I should probably have posted something myself after I rooted my one. Anyway, glad it worked for you! Been busy as hell perparing for the new uni. semester here.
After rooting I installed 'app quarantine' that allows you to not run/hideany bloatware for the time being. You can keep unwanted stuff in quranteed list when updated as well. Only later when absolutely sure you are sure you don't need it, should you uninstall - or risk permanent instability or worse.
Cezeff, any other tips for this phone? As I mentioned before it would be good to be able to get SMS GO PRO working with the ezweb address. Any ideas how?

Hi, sorry but don't many threads contain questions? Sorry to be rude but what's the difference? Perhaps a lot has changed in the four years or so since I have posted....
If Cezeff buggered up the thread somehow, could you tell him how to turn it from a 'Question thread' into a 'Statement thread'?

yeah i got a few other tips but right now I'm bogged down with training...ill throw some up here later...im still trying to figure out how to get my NFC working...may have to go into AU and ask...

Cheers mate! Waiting for your tips. Hope training going well! Ah, I also can't get NFC going.....

well for one the battery on this phone is already great but Juice Defender is awesome...after 15 hours i had 84%..im pretty sure your aware of that one...it seems after poking around that the NFC is lost after rooting....i tried an NFC Enabler.zip posted by another member for a different variant and no luck...hmmmmm

Cheers. Will give it a try. By the way, you know those programmes that let you quarantine apps? All good until you try un-quarantining. My advice: don't qurantine stuff you think you might need later.

from what i can tell the phone has all the required libs and software expect for the Nfc.apk.....for some reason the one i got from the other thread will not install...i searched around on the web and most NFC cab able phones have the files...
libnfc_jni.so
libnfc_ndef.so
libnfc.so
libpn544_fw.so
Tag.apk + libs
Nfc.apk
the Tap.apk installs just fine...and the other 4 files are present in the system/lib but the Nfc.apk will not install...any ideas?

Thank you for the guide! There are still no custom ROMs compatible with the SCH-ISW11SC (SCH-J001), correct?

Help needed with - cant establish a reliable data connection

Hi,
I have a g2 touch on tmobile, unlocked and using with 3 network. It currently shows as ROM version 2.73.110.26, Android 1.5.
When I try to download android apps from the "Market", it asks me to log into my gmail account. When I put in the details, it is signing in for two minutes, saying "connecting with google servers", but then the message "cant establish a reliable data connection to the server" comes up. I was trying to connect with wifi. I can connect with a browser no problem. I also cleared the google apps in Manage Applicaions.
Can someone please help. Am I doing somethinhg wrong.
Thank you.
Think it's a similar problem to what i have with mine.I have a T-Mobile handset running an Orange sim,I can't get a data connection as well.I've had similar problems in the past with an Orange handset running other sims, but solved it everytime after i had flashed a new ROM on the phone. All my previous handsets were running Win Mobile, and it was easy to do,but this runs Android and it seems alot more confusing and complicated.
I'd guess flashing a new ROM would do the trick, but can't help you as i'm stuck trying to flash
myself.
Damned reply vanished into the ether!!! @#?! So anyhoo.... here's how you flash.... its easy.
First you root your phone. Takes an hour at the most. You're sort of not embracing android if you havnt rooted yet... but anyway, now that you have a newly rooted hero you look for a rom to use (I swap between aHero and EzHero).
Once found you download your .zip file and place it into the root of your sd card (not in any folders).
Start your phone in recovery using the power and home keys simultaneously and select 'flash zip from sd card' and select the file you want to flash. Then press home to confirm and then let it load. Then restart. Easy as pie.... mmmmm.... pie....
Considering I'm only 15 this is a relatively easy process for anyone... mind you I am working on dual boot with winmob so.... meh... try it. Its so easy that I change my rom about twice a week.
Hope my drivle was of some use to you. Any questions pm me somehow and i'll get back to you asap.

Using the SHV-E160L in Canada [ICS][Root][CWM][SMS]

I'm making this guide for anyone whose purchased a Korean Galaxy Note and have had a hell of a time getting it to work properly.
In Canada, the Note will only work with Rogers or Fido due to frequency and compatibility issues. Even other networks that support the Note will not work with a Korean Galaxy Note and flashing the telus modems found in other threads has not worked for me, causing the phone to get stuck in a restart loop.
First, upgrading to ICS:
Download the UF13 stock E160L firmware from this website:
http://pspmaster.tistory.com/180
For those with SHV-E160 S and K phones, stock firmwares can also be found on this website with a bit of searching
Flashing:
Put the Korean Note into download mode by holding down the volume down button + home button + power button
- The Note will then display a tonne of Korean text on-screen, press the volume up button to actually enter the download mode
Then run Odin in administrator mode (not really sure if it makes a difference but might as well), make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only checked items, click the PDA button and select the firmware file
Then click start and wait till the phone reboots, the loading screen will have a pink U+ logo and it may take some time.
Once it has booted, insert your microSIM card (yeah for some reason it uses a microSIM, other models don't seem to, wtf Korea?) and let it connect to the network. Once it connects you're good.
Rooting:
(courtesy of locomaniac, his thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671987)
Download these 4 files:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u0rz0tuioj3irhz/cwm-160l-update.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds3sp7bulu54ckg/samsungE160recovery.tar
https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwuadwg4bx7wjro/Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/si43ikqpcdbzpod/Tegrak.rec.tar
Put the cwm-update160l-update.zip and the Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip onto your external SD card
Then shut off the phone and put it into download mode once again (vol down + home + power)
Once it's in download mode, flash the Tegrak.rec.tar in the same fashion as you did with the UF13 stock ROM, it will overwrite the recovery partition of your phone and your phone will then reset
Power down the phone once again and get it back into download mode, this time you'll flash the samsungE160recovery.tar which will install Clockworkmod Recovery into the recovery partition (not sure why you need the Tegrak recovery as well other than its ability to root the phone but do it anyways)
- Please note, if you only want root and not Clockworkmod Recovery which in my opinion, is stupid, do not flash the samsungE160recovery.tar, just go to http://pspmaster.tistory.com/181 and download the two files that correspond to your model, it does indeed have the E160S and E160K kernels as well. Copy the .zip file into your external SD card, then Flash the .tar file using ODIN then boot into recovery by holding the volume up + volume down + power button until the samsung logo appears at which point you'll have to release the buttons. It will boot into Tegrak recovery, select install from .zip, select the .zip file you downloaded and then restart the phone. Once restarted, you'll have to download Tegrak from the Google play store and open the app and select the root my phone option at which point your phone should have root access. Then download superuser from the Google play store and bam you're golden.
For those of you who want CWM Recovery, once the ODIN flash of samsungE160recovery.tar is done, it will reboot. Shut down the phone, then hold down the volume up and volume down buttons with the power button, let go of them all once the samsung logo appears to boot the phone into recovery mode. It will now be CWM Recovery rather than the Tegrak recovery, select install from zip and select cwm-160l-update.zip and install it. Once installed, you will need to select the reboot recovery option (might be under advanced menu, not sure). Or just power down the phone and reboot into recovery. Once it's in, you'll notice that CWM Recovery has been updated, but the menu options still look the same. Familiarity is good. Now choose install from zip and select the Superuser-i717-ICS-signed.zip file and install that.
Once you're done, reboot the phone and you will now have root access.
Fixing the SMS system:
(instructions courtesy of the crazy Chinese developers over at koxda http://koxda.com/thread-14201-1-1.html)
For some reason, Korea has a different messaging system than anywhere else in the world causing messages to send properly only if you're using a third party app like goSMS, and labeling everything you receive as from an unknown number. Obviously, this is ridiculous, so to fix that, you'll need the root access you just obtained as well as Root Explorer (File Manager), an app you can purchase off Google play or pirate with Mobilism. It's a wonderful app that will let you do anything you want to any file you want.
You'll also need mms.apk which is basically the international version of the messaging system from here:
http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/360753/Mms-apk.html
Copy this file to your SD Card
Now you'll want to open Root Explorer, and open the "system" folder then the "app" folder. Here, find 6 files that begin with SEC-MMS and delete them, you may have to press the mount r/w button at the top to get read write permission but do so and you'll be able to delete the files. Then, copy the mms.apk using root explorer from your external SD card into the system/app folder.
Once you're done, close everything and restart your phone.
Once it restarts, you'll notice that Android will attempt to upgrade something, that something is basically the phone installing the mms.apk for you and it will now appear in the applications list. Open the mms.apk, press the menu touch key and go to settings. Here, you need to change the text input method to unicode and then set the message centre number to +15149931123 for Fido, or +17057969300 for Rogers (can also try +17057969500). Make sure to type in that plus sign or it will not work properly.
*Note the messaging program may crash occasionally, keep trying and it should work, once you're done you'll be replacing the normal messaging system which has become unstable with something else.
That something else is the Handcent SMS app which you can download off Google play for free. Install it, then open the app, go to settings, application settings and press the Default Messaging application button, select All (SMS&MMS). Then press back, click notification settings and uncheck the Enable popup option.
AAAANNND YOU'RE DONE
If you have other Korean Note specific problems like the lack of secret menu options to repair your touch keys (which I had, goddamn you Samsung), send me a pm and I'll make another thread on how to fix it, it involves flashing temporary firmware that I really don't have the bandwidth to upload at the moment.
Mine is 160s and I just want CWM. But I see that the file is for 160L. Are you sure if its working for others than 160L?

I'd suggest flashing the tegrak recovery file for the E160S followed by the samsung160recovery, which should give you CWM at which point you can update CWM and root the phone. However, I have no idea if it'll work, so make sure to have a stock ROM on hand in case things go south for you.

Thanks man! Works for my E160K. Just one comment - looks like also you should have valid MSISDN on your SIM card in order to have it working.
You can check is it so or not in "Settings"=>"Phone Identity" - "Phone number" filed should show your actual nuber with "+" and all prefixes. If it's says "unknown" (and it's easily can) - you should write a correct number first on SIM card using "My phone number" application from market (little chance to work, btw), or other phone (Android-based device with CyanogenMod 7.x, Iphone or lots of SE phones can help).

Excellent point, I remember reading this on the Koxda forum, but I didn't bump into this particular problem myself. For my phone number, the information was under settings --> about phone --> status
I remember reading that the easiest fix was actually borrowing an iphone and with its prevalence these days, it should be easy to find someone who'll lend it for a few minutes. Also, since the e160L has a microsim, it should fit into an iphone 4 without any hassle

Thanks to the OP, I replaced the MMS app on my E160L (YAY!).
OK, I found an iPhone that let me 'write' my phone number to the SIM card. It's all done. BUT I can't send an sms with the newly installed stock MMS.apk. Actually, seems like I can send short messages: 70 characters and under using stock but anything longer fails. This seems to have to do with the original Korean models not being able to send anything more than 70 or 80 characters?
The caller ID issue is resolved though. I set the SMSC via the settings as well as via the secret menu accessed via typing 319 712 358 and then the password 0821.
Handcent works for sending and receiving. But I'd also like the stock messing app to work too!

It's an inherent issue with Korean versions of the Note. The only way to get around this is to use the Handcent app. :-(

Unfortunately, this 70 character limit is coded into the Korean operating system and I haven't found a way to get past it... yet. The Chinese appear to be cooking up a custom ROM that uses the American operating system as its base which could get around that SMS character limit, will update when I succeed in getting it to work on my phone.

[Q] Rooting LG Optimus L3 E405

Hello XDA :good:
Is anyone successfuly rooted their LG Optimus L3 E405?
I need help how to root it, Ive tried the E400 rooting guide but I always failed...
Tried almost all of the ways seen on google searches but none of them work.
If any here can help me root this device is really really appreciated..
Thank you and hoping for a reply to our Android Rooting Gurus
by the way, my LG device is;
LG Optimus L3 E405
Gingerbread 2.3.6 (Updated August 31, 2012)
Hi all,
I have a LG L3-E405 DUAL too and the same question and also tried almost everything i could find about rooting E400 and E405.
I've tried the Spectrum root method and superoneclick 2.3.3
Firmware: v10d-SEP-13-2012
Build: GRK39F
Kernel: 2.6.38.6-perf+
Android: 2.3.6
Output from Superoneclick and Spectrum root basically comes down to permission denied, phone reboots and no change at all.
I really would like to root it so i can move apps like maps en google plus to the internal memory of 1 GB to free up some space for more apps.
Any help on a method that works would be greatly appreciated
Sorry for this bump.. Just want to let others know if they missed reading this thread.
and yes, I really wanted to know if this is possible.. Thanks.
Any news on these matters? Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

psneuter will not work, neither do the other root options.
Be sure you have the LG L3-e405 usb drivers installed correctly otherwise it won\t work either. You can download them from the Lg website.
connect your phone and choose pc software on the dialog that opens on your phone.
You need Superoneclick 1.7 (temporary disable while downloading and using superoneclick your antivirus as well otherwise it will falsely say it's a trojan.)
Run the program (in winvista/win7 as administrator) set on the right the method to RAGEAGAINSTTHECAGE then press root.
Wait untill whole process is done en telling you it was succesful.
Shutdown your phone and start it again. Superuser should be there in applications menu.
Thanks go to Yethz who started this thread and found the solution !

For who want to use Link2SD on your L3-E405 you should pay attention to the following.
On the E-405 it will not work if you only create a ext2 and fat32 partition!
Use a partitionmanager to partition your SD card.
All partitions must be PRIMARY and not logical
1. First create a FAT (not fat32) partition and choose the smallest size possible
2 Then create a EXT2 partition of 1 GB (not bigger) for use with Link2SD
3 Create a FAT32 partition for the remaining space left on the SD card.
Download and install Link2D from google play store and start it.
It will ask you what kind of partition you want to use and choose EXT2
It will tell you to reboot, so shutdown your phone and turn it back on.
Now you can remove bloatware and system apps you dont want on your system storage.
And offcourse link the apps to your sd card to free up memory.
Following sytem apps you can safely remove from the E405:
Google+
Google Maps
Google Maps Streetview
Google Mail
Youtube
these you can all download from google play store and links then to sdcard

The E-405 is not supported yet by rom manager or CWM. It's only available for the L3-E400.
As far is i know there are no fully working custom roms for the E405 yet so rom manager is kind of useless at the moment.
Only for the E400 i see a cyanogen mod nightly is being in development.
Also i have read a couple of warnings on other forums not to use cwm/rom manager on the L3 E-400 or E405 due to unwanted behaviour of
both apps like getting stuck in boot loop.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27683328
maybe you can find some answers in this thread.
Hmm, thanks , Can we expect Cyanogen 9 for the LG L3 E405 ??

I have no idea. That depends on a developer who wants to pick that up.
just search xda from time to time to see. If there will be any custom rom you will find it on this forum.

Hey bro,
Id followed your tips about using Link2SD , thanks a lot.
I tried linking all my apps to SD Card now I have lots of free space on System Memory :good:
I was using Move to SD Card (App2SD Method) and I have lot of System Memory consumed but when Linking to SD Card got me more space.
Thank you again, and yes I already formatted my phone (hard reset) just to set things up properly.
Now, Can you recommend me some usefull apps?
So, any news on other users of E405? Does it go well on your handsets?
Also can you share your must have apps that perfectly run in it :good:

Erisin ES7835US

Hey devs I purchased a car tab from China and I have borderline bricked it. I bought the Erisin ES7835US (ES7835A I believe) which has android 4.04 installed. I hit the reset button and I believe I've erased the additional firmware included. I am able to boot, but it asks me to calibrate and start setting up the tablet as if its my first time using it.
I then notice quickly that I cannot install any apps from Google play, it tells me I don't have enough space. Funny thing is when I go to settings/storage my internal SD card shows all green (full) even though I haven't installed any apps.
My internal SD card is recognized by my computer and I can add and take stuff off of it. Its like android is not reading any space to install apps.
It has ANDROID SYSTEM RECOVERY <3e> and I don't see cwm or twrp available for my device.
Is there anything I can do? Repartition my card? Flash a custom recovery? Please help!! I'm taking all responses and suggestions and I'm very computer savvy, I flash pacman ROM 4.3 for my note 2 daily. Please don't be afraid to reach out and help me...I WILL donate $10 via Paypal to whoever helps me with this.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
You ever get this figured out? I posted links (search my screen name) to multiple Erisin ROM's, now I'm just hoping to find a Dev (preferebly in the Seattle area) who can help me install the 7835 software onto my 7035, or at least root it and help me make it somewhat faster, less buggy, etc.
Bump since you're still an active user on this forum. I've posted links on the end of this thread of the firmware you needed - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119778

[AT&T] Stock Rooted Odex/Deodex

Disclaimer: Flash this ROM at your own risk. I am not responsible for what you do on your device. I left this stock to provide a base for anybody that wants to use it. Mod this rom how you want. Just please remember to give credit where credit is due.
This is a pure stock rooted rom. It has items like busybox, init.d support and so forth. No apps were added or removed.
Kernel source is available from htcdev.com Using stock zImage with no changes at all.
Downloads
mine too just in case

the issue is that after flashing different kernel i am unable to switch from Dalvik to ART...i need a stock kernel so i can flash it and use ART.
Hope that helps!
I am also having few problems with these stock ROMs.
Icons on the lock screen are misplaced (little to the left).
Can't completely remove notification sounds (make them silent).
The AT&T and HTC images at the bootscreen are smaller (there is a big black frame).
I will post pictures when I get back home from work.
sorry guys if i bothered you with my stupid questions but i found the problem that was preventing me from switching Dalvik to ART. it was xposed framework that caused the issue and after i uninstalled the framework i was able to switch to ART thanks for your help anyway
I will add few pictures of my screen.

In case you didn't fix that:
The AT&T Desire 610 has a 480*854 screen. If you are running an AT&T rom on an international Desire 610 you may have this problem.

Thank you very much for your answer.
I didn't knew that.
wheres the rom? On the DL page, there is nothing but a list of devices, none of which seem to be htc, much less 610.
Ok, figured that out... My trouble is, I cant seem to get root working! I installed rooted rom, even the kernal that goes with it, but still can not remove apps from att. Thats kinda my whole goal, but not having much luck getting it going. Any ideas what Im doing wrong??

OK, Ive missed something.. I can even remove files from the rom, and they are stll there... I guess I've messed something up, or missed something completely. No matter what I do, I can not remove a system app, even if I remove it from the rom and flash it back to the phone...

If you're using the at&t 610, flash the Rom and kernel. Go to the play store after signing into your Google account.
Download the kitkat sd card fix and titanium backup.
Make sure you have the latest busybox and root binaries before hand.
Use the sd card fix app, restart your phone. Once it turns back on, wait a solid minute as it runs the start up. Now go into titanium back up and start deleting apps.
That should do it.
If not, follow up with deleting the app and it's associated .apk in your system/apps folder.

My guess is you're S-on, the phone won't allow you to write or modify the system files. Honestly you're not truly rooted unless you're s-off. Where did you find the download? I don't see our phone in the list either
