Micro SD card suggestion for Xperia Mini Pro - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I bought a Xperia Mini pro SK17i a few days back. It came with a 2GB memory card. I want to upgrade to larger space.
Please tell me should I go for 16GB or 32GB one. Will there be any problems? I mean any slowing down or hanging etc. Also tell me what class of microSD should I buy?

Im using a Class6,32G card on my mini,i think it's fast enough.

It matters how much space you need. Class 4 and above is fast enough for the XMP, not it is just your choice how much space you need . Im using Class 4, 32GB SD Card and I haven't got any slow or problem with loading my music or pictures.

I'm on a 16gb class 6, no problem at all.

Go for a 32 GB one if you think you'll be able to utilise the space. If you pick a class 6 or 10 card you really shouldn't have any speed problems. Obviously a higher class card is faster - class 10 FTW!

Micro SD Card Suggestion
Well 16Gb or 32GB is based on your requirements
My suggestion would be 16GBclass 4 or 16GBclass 6
I am using 16GBclass 6 on my SE Live With Walkman and it has no problem
for me
Class are based on their speeds
Class2 -->2Mbs
Class4 -->4Mbs
Class6 -->6Mbs
Class8 -->8Mbs
Class10 -->10Mbs
Use "Crystalbenchmark" to test the read/write speed of your cards
First check the read/write speed of your 2GB sd card that came with
your device and this help you to differentiate speeds of different class
types

These are only minimal speeds, these can be higher.
I have Class 4, Sandisk, 16GB, Write is 8.7 MB/s, Read 28.9 MB/s.

There's a thread on this subject somewhere here.
What you need to consider as well is access speed.
Higher class cards transfer faster, but to do so, data has to be accessedfirst, and that takes longer with class 10 than class 2 for example.
That means, if you are goinf to work a lot with larger files, it pays you to get a high class, if on the other hand, you are going to onstall apps to work with small files a lot, it will actually slow you down.
Edit:
I've found it, anybody interested should look at the tests results

I have a SanDisk 32GB Class 4 MicroSDHC, works perfectly and doesnt slow down the phone.
I have watched 1080 video via MHL from the SD card.
Yes, 32GB is max. Open case so you can see what sdcard goes inside. No it doesnt make your phone slower, I think. But 32+16 GB is too much, so it might lagg a bit.

As long as the SD card has good enough random reads/writes it wont slow the system down at all (aka as long as its a good card its fine, aka the Scandisk ones are a safe bet, and actually the lower classes have better random read/writes).
The only thing is that if you have a lot of media the media scanner will take longer to finish (derr).
Thanks everybody, was also gonna ask the same question.
Nope. Sandisk 64GB micro SDXC works just fine with SGS2. However, I digress...
I concur with Veyka, my Sandisk 32GB/Class 4 works more than admirably for pretty much any/everything I've thrown at it so far. And they're fairly cheap too (<$50 AUD for me).

It's better to take some class 6 or class 10 card (but class10 is abit expensive and its almost no difference in most cases on SGS2).
The card will not slow your phone by itself, but a lot of files or media can slowdown mediascaner abit and increase battery consumption by mediascaner.
Just wanted to jump in with a reminder. The class rating of the card refers to the write speeds. So the class is irrelevant when you're talking about the performance of opening/reading files. The class is only relevant when writing to it.
That said, get a brandnamed card. I recommend Sandisk. I have a Class 2 32GB Sandisk that actually performs (from my testing) faster than a Class 4 rating.

Yes SD card classes shows minimum write speed (because before classes some manufacturers was "cheating" using "×" as read speed)
But read speed usualy almost equal to write speed. So reading from class10 card is for sure faster than reading from class 4 card. Just check this article on wikipedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#.C3.97_rating

That appears to be on a case-by-case basis depending on the card manufacturer.
From my own testing, my Class 2 32GB card can write at about 4MB/s (which is on par with a Class 4 card).
I also have a Class 10 8GB card which obviously can write faster than the Class 2.
But both of them are neck-and-neck when it comes to read speeds.

NP ;-) I paid a bit more than that for mine ($48 @ MSY from memory), so you're doing well if you can get one for 40 bucks.
I don't see the point of paying a lot more (double and more) for a card with a higher class rating for pretty much negligible improvement in "performance". We are talking about a phone after all, and this card handles 1080 video (recording it/writing it to the card) just fine which is probably the most "intensive" activity the phone is capable of.

I have a Samsung 16gb class 10........ its the best card i've had... All i will say, pay a little more for a good brand, or your next thread you will be complaining about errors and sd card problems
For normal day to day usage in the phone there'd be very little difference in a class 4 or 10 card. However copying 32gb onto a class 4 card is a slow progress !! Spend the little extra and go class 10.

Didn't want to wait for one to arrive off eBay so a mate told me to go to Centrecom (Australia, Melbourne). Bought a class 10 for $50. Tests show write at between 10-11mb/s and read at between 18-20mb/s. Pretty happy.

[Q] SD Card recommendations re: class

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of picking up an SD card for my prime when it comes in. Does anyone have any recommendations as to which class I should get?
I'm thinking 6 or 8 minimum, esp since I will likely end up watching movies (avi, mpg, mkv) off the card. Has anyone tried doing this yet or testing which class SD cards work best?
Gracias
Transcend 16G class 10 works super fast. Love it. My only choice.
And it's not expensive in my region (TW).
I tried a class 4 on my old Advent Vega. When there was no comparion, class 4 seemed ok. But now after a class 10 card experience, I don't think I want to settle for anything less fast.
Looks like Sandisk 32GB Class 4 is what a lot of people are recommending.
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369
Just received the SanDisk 64 GB microSD Class 6. Getting 7.3-7.5 MByte/s write speeds.
Also have a Samsung 32 GB Class 10, getting 11-12 MByte/s writes.
Write speeds returned on transferring big files (>600 MB) only.
SanDisk comes exFAT formatted so you can put files >4GB on it (very handy for those big mkvs). Samsung comes FAT32, but keeps same high write speeds when formatted exFAT. 64 GB works well with the Prime.

CrystalDiskMark is real good for testing card speed (from a PC).
After reading a HUGE thread here on XDA about all the classes and how it can vary depending on your need, I opted for a class 4. I was convinced I needed class 10, but after reading that entire huge thread I came to see that for my needs, class 4 was fine and perfect and class 10 of little actual value. So I got a very highly rated Transcend 32gb class 4 off Amazon.

sorry i am a newbee..but could u tell me how to know whether the card is class 4 or 6 will it be written on memory card cover? or it depends on company which manufacture it?
It will be printed on card.(look for a big C numeral will be inside it)

Time to report back!
Well I got a 32GB San Disk Class 4 and...it's brilliant...the music library doesn't need any time to load...it's all ready...and after synching music, it only has to load what's changed (sounds simple, but not all devices are do that, trust me!) so I'm very happy with it...the bottleneck so to speak is now the Sony music app...it doesn't connect very well to Media Go. I'll save that moaning for the right thread lol
p.s. there are many threads on here about testing the diffferent class performance of SD cards and Class 4 San Disk was by far the best...other class 10s did not perform better reading and writing...they performed worse. Very happy with class 4. I got it on ebay for 23€ by the way, too expensive in the shops.
it depend on brand also. scandisk class 4 higher speed than other brand with the same class.

Well true is normal micro sd have max 2gb microsdthc 4-32gb theses 2 formats are oficialy supported. Also few guys trying use sdxc (64gb and above) on multiple android device include xperia mini and when theses card are formated in phone on fat32 file system they just work but not with full speed. Both the brands are awesome....But class 4 is obviously better than class 2 for android....My Sandisk 16 Gb Class 4 MicSD gives a read speed of about 14 MB/sec and write speed of 5-6 MB/sec......
SanDisk is more known, also class 4 is faster.

hmm, but transcend normally cost more than sandisk here, class 2 transcend 16gb is almost at the same price on sandisk 16gb class 4 so i thought transcend has more quality than sandisk,
I personaly use also 16gb class 2 trascend about 3 years already without any problem first in SE elm now in my mini. But my opinion when you buy new is buy even faster or maybe even biger coz lifetime microsd is great and you can use it in many phones. Anyway speed in phone is for any action enouhg for me now and never got any problem with memory from trascend (i using from trascend now microsd, normal sd, ram, flash disc)

Guys don't forget that the speed class only describes the write speed of the card.
Most cards, I mean even class 2, are fast enough at reading speed for usual use.
For good writing performence you should buy a class 10 card even if the price is higher.
Its a big difference copying for example 700 mb with 10 mb or only 2 mb writing speed.

Forget brands, its the class that matters
Well I went over to the accessories section and found threads on this...they are REALLY serious about this stuff there....the bottom line here, and in other fora is that the San Disk Class 4 is perhaps the best out there. People claim (and show pictures proving) that it has beaten higher class SD cards. I went for this one and am very happy...it beats expectations. I agree it's mostly more about class rather than brand, but brand can affect things sometimes.
I bought a Kingston 16MB class 4 for my x10mp, and the phone kept hanging up. Sent it back as a defect and got another one, but I had the same problem with that one, too. Sent it back for a refund. Bought a Sandisk 16MB class 4 and haven't had any problems with it. I'm not sure about the '11 xmp, but brand did matter on my old phone.

32 GB Memory Card

Which is best 32GB memory card for Neo V..
n is the Phone fast with 32 GB card or getting Lagged??
i'm not getting any lag with my 8GB (class 4) card. 32GB will do good
Let me give you an advice.
To the best of my knowledge a 32 GB sd card will need more power to work which means it will draw more power.
Also it depends from whom are you gonna buy it?
Sandisk? (if it is sandisk then BUY IT)
Also at the store ask for its class.
Just something about classes.
A class 4 card IS always going to give you at least 4mb/s write speed.
Although this is not always true.. (i bough a Kingston class 4 16GB for 8.5 euro XD and it is working fine but it mostly runs with 3mb/s it is slow but it was the cheapest and bigger)
The higher the capacity of the sd the slower random read write speeds.
So if you are planing to move many apps on your sd i do not recommend anything class 10 like.
But if you mostly need it for gaming/music/movies then for CLASS 10
Oh and always but sd cards from the web they are way cheeper than from stores.
(my Kingston from a shop costs 16Euro -mostly like every card 1Gb=1euro)
Buy a card with a high speed class.
Take min. class 6 or class 10.
Buy a card from a well know manufacturer like kingston , San disk or Samsung.
I use a 16 gb Samsung class 10 and the write speed is fantastic. 12 mb/s.

The answe is yes and no.
What 32GB ?
A 32 gb class10 sandisk wont slow it down.
A 32GB CLASS 4 KINGSTON WILL SLOW IT DOWN
it depends on the cards class and company.
a kingston class 10 VS sandisk class 10
would lose sandisk creates very fast sd's
If you are willing to pay a lot of money then buy sandisk class 10
IT WILL BE EVEN FASTER THAN WHAT YOU HAVE.
It depends on everything!.
Also android doesnt use the full potentional of the sd card.
You will need to root your phone and use an sd booster app to unlock your cards MAX SPEEDS!
For 32gb class 10 is must. Otherwise video recording, playing HD videos etc will lag.
I use 8gb class 10.
toshiba 32gb class4 no lags so far
Exchange of files between the computer and the phone affects the importance of speed
Class 10 is a must. Im using imation 8gb card. Images and videos loads and saves faster cmpared to lower class.

Previously used a transcend 16GB class4, the speed difference isn't that much, but you'll save a few minutes when making a CWM backup. (I went from 9 to 6 minutes).
But it was just €3 more than a class4 card, so worth the price.
My brother use Sandisk 32Gb class 4 for his MK16i (x.Pro)
Everything is working very well
