If you are having issues with your current ROM. You could always run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU) found in the link below.
http://bit.ly/u3pMEN
Make sure to download the correct file.
(RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00 .1216)
After it has finished downloading. Re-lock your phone.
Then run the RUU.exe
This will take you back to the Stock HTC 2.17.651.5 ROM.
DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR DEVICE DURING THE PROCESS. IT COULD BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
Remember this will delete all your current data/apps so use TWRP on the android market to back up all your downloaded content. Only if your going to unlock you device again because you need to root your phone to use TWRP.
do i have to have android sdk installed?
You should.
I would recommend downloading the rootevo3dnew.zip file and place it on C:\ Drive.
(You can download the file from here)
http://bit.ly/HCPFRW
Dont forget to enter Fastboot USB first.
Now type these commands on cmd.
cd c:\rootevo3dnew
then type.
fastboot oem lock
Your device should reboot.
Dont let it reboot
Wait about 10 seconds than take off the battery.
Enter hboot once again by pressing Vol down then power button.
Go into Fastboot USB and then run the RUU.
ive tried that it never reconizes the rootevo3dnew.. thats why i was wondering if i needed androidsdk installed
1.Did you unzip the file?
2.Is the rootevo3dnew folder placed in C:\?
does the hole folder need to be in c? cuz ive tried it in the zip file and unzipped to c drive and both no go

Yes. put the rootevo3d.zip file in C:\ then unzip it.
Once thats done try the commands i gave you.
Post back with your error(if you end up getting one)
it worked that time but just says waiting on device
Is your device in Fastboot USB?
yea its red and says fastboot usb
Try this. Reboot your phone and turn debugging on.
Take out the battery and go back to Fastboot USB
Also run the HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe file in the rootevo3dnew folder if you have windows.
thank a lot man my problem was i didnt have the drivers installed...
No problem. Pm if your having any other issues

There are definitely a few options and a few things to be aware of.
HTC official unlock does NOT unlock kernel/boot write access while in the custom recovery mode. Still is helpful to flash the custom recovery as all other features will work from recovery mode, just not the ability to write to the kernel/boot partition.
This means there are only two modes you can flash the kernel from, either fastboot mode (requiring a computer) or standard Android mode, for which I made a handy application, Flash Image GUI.
1) Using my application, Flash Image GUI, will allow you to flash custom kernels and also select ROM .zip files, and then load the kernel out of the ROM .zip, while then booting into recovery mode to load the rest of the ROM (system portion). My application will also allow you to flash the recovery.img or any .zip file containing the recovery .img.
2) Using the fastboot mode there are two ways to flash a kernel, both require being connected to another device, generally a computer.
2-A) fastboot boot c:\downloads\recovery.img . This command will temporary load the custom recovery with write access to the kernel partition and allow a full kernel .zip or ROM .zip to be loaded correctly.
2-B) fastboot boot c:\downloads\boot.img . This command will flash just the kernel boot.img file. The associated kernel modules, such as WiFi will not be loaded and must be loaded by the ROM .zip in the custom recovery, otherwise WiFi will not work.
HTC unlock is definitely very helpf when compared to no official option, but has a few quirks forcing us to take a few extra steps.
Hope that helps clarify a bit!
I have tried this & it says "main version older" idk what that means but it didn't work!

Either download superusers from the market free version works fine or just click okay on it.. May need superusers from the market. Didn't have any issues.
Got it, but how do I get superuser to give them the permissions? In the app I see the "app" catergory with nothing there.
Remember, all I've done is HTC unlock to unlock bootloader. I'm still s-on with no custom recovery, if I can get that I'll be fine. I got everything you said also

This is gonna sound retarted man sorry just need to know does your hboot say unlocked at the top?
I know alot of folks were having issues when they applied the unlock code bin part using the HTC Dev way and it would say sucess but nothing would happen the phone would sit in hboot and no new screen would come up and say do you wish to unlock the bootloader.... Only way around that was to download the latest RUU exe 2.17 and use it then reapply the unlock code bin
I am trying to figure out why TWRP 2.0 was havin issues along with CWM and so I I have been swapping recoverys around on my phone all day to see if I could get the same issue you have been having...
I am running outta ideas since everything isn't wanting to flash over it's acting like the boot is still locked even tho you unlocked it.
Im hboot 1.5 S-ON
If nothing works you could try this then redo the custom recovery.. by fastboot flash.

Might be able too. PC86IMG.ZIP I just can't figure out why nothing is flashin over to your phone recovery wise...
I did the same thing took the OTA software update before I rooted and did the HTC DEV applied the unlock code and chose to unlock boot even tho said it could void my warranty. Then I downloaded TWRP 2.0 which I don't recommend using put that in my platform tools folder and fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or what ever you renamed the file tooo.
This is the recovery I was using worked fine just copy the file that is in the zip to your platform tools folder and fastboot flash recovery cwm.img
I really am tryin to figure out what is going wrong with the recoverys not wanting to flash over....
I dunno why cwm isn't flashing right..

I believe you on the unlocked part. Man im just stumped on this part the way it's acting up seems like the phone is still locked....
I have been tryin to screw up mine to see if I have the same issue as you...
I am really tryin to figure this out lol.
When you did the HTC Dev method you had latest java JDK and HTC sync 3.0 I think was the latest and ADB and the tools it needs downloaded...
Also you don't have two pc86img.zip files on your SD card right?
Some of the PC86IMG.ZIP files might error or not work due to them being named PC86IMG.ZIP.ZIP
Does the computer you were using have ADB installed on it with the tools you can download when you open up SDK manager there called SDK tools or platform tools...
Since you need these to work adb and make sure debug is on in the main menu of your phone under applications development.
I dunno why superusers wouldn't flash either.. Might be something with ADB or SDK tools or Platform tools aren't downloaded. On windows 7 if your right click on your platform tools while holding down shift it will open up a quick path to adb
The stock recovery I used astro zip to zip the stock signed recovery.img. It was named stock signed recovery.zip when I zipped it. Then I renamed it to PG86IMG.zip & powered off phone. I went to bootloader & it found the file like before, said "parsing" & nothing else happens but it goes back to the bootloader highlighting fastboot. I did this several times by clicking on fastboot & then clicking bootloader so it can load the file again. Still it said "parsing" & nothing else. Like before, the only one that said something different was twrp which said "main version outdated" & the only option after that was to reboot using power button!
Also, I'm not near a computer & the super user I downloaded is from the market! I'm on hboot 1.5 unlocked WITH software 2.17. Do you think it's because the ota?

Nope there isn't. It's not a folder named recovery on the root of the SD card or on the main root of the SD card where you see the really important files & you can see the system apks etc! What does this mean?

you're s-off. You may have ran the RUU but at least you have that. go here and download whichever hboot you prefer (1.40 ship or 1.04 eng). both will work just fine, just rename to PG86IMG.zip and put in the root folder of your SD card. To install it, pull the battery and put it back in, then hold VOL DOWN and power until you see the hboot screen, then it'll prompt you to install the file. just make sure to delete the file from your SD card once you successfully install it.
DO NOT USE HTC UNLOCK METHOD ITS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY.
Since you ran the RUU, you have to reinstall a custom recovery. Do this via flash image GUI, ROM Manager, or fastboot (place your recovery in the fastboot folder, rename it to recovery.img, then open command prompt window in that folder. Boot phone to bootloader with vol down + power, then click fastboot and plug phone into computer. It should change to fastboot usb. Once that happens, just type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" [without the quotes])
Thanks worked like a charm. For me no more flashing while under the influence of ambien

I am a complete noob. Sprint Evo 3d 1.5 s-on, I have been running Viper IC3D for a month now, loving it,should have stuck with that. I wanted to try one of the Jelly Bean Roms, specifically the Team D.I.R.T. one, but I didn't want to have to keep flashing the two roms back and forth. Found out about Boot Manager Pro on here, and found a thread about using it with hboot 1.5 s-on. followed the instructions, booted into D.I.R.T. rom. fiddled with it, decided to go back to my phone rom. Boot Manager kept unexpectedly closing on me, wouldn't stay open long enough to do anything. So I went into recovery and restored my nandroid of Viper. But D.I.R.T. loaded! Said screw it, and wiped and reflashed Viper. D.I.R.T. loaded! Couldn't get anything but that ROM to load no matter what I did. Uninstalled Boot Manager, nothing but D.I.R.T.So I hunted around here and found a thread that said if all else failed, to manually remove Bootloader from sd and go from there. Did that, and it soft bricked my phone. I can get into recovery, but no matter what I do when I reboot it hangs in HTC white boot screen. I cannot afford another phone and don't get an upgrade til next year. Please Say there is a solution to this! I cried all last night, couldn't sleep, and I'm crying again. Side note, i accidentally erased half the C; Drive on my laptop trying things I found on another android forum, and system restore didn't work. So I'm back here, and I'm scared to try anything else, but I have to do something. Help!!!!!!
Flash the kernel. All will be well.
Viper rom should include boot.img.
Extract it to sdk-tools folder.
Open terminal, cd to sdk-tools directory.
Hold volume plus down on phone. Hit power button on fastboot option.
Plug in phone to computer. It should say fastboot usb on phone screen now. If not, install htc drivers.
Go to terminal. Type "fastboot flash boot boot.img
Should see some stuff happen on computer screen, phone will reboot.
Do that then report back.

I'm doomed. I was able to flash CWM this way, although it didn't help me at all. But I tried to flash the boot img and it didn't work. Didn't seem to recognize the command.
I'm cdma s-on? So basically you relocked and flashed an RUU and then relocked?
try to relock and flash with RUU it will work
At first when you were unable to boot back to phone rom, you should have went into recovery and flash the update.zip located in the sdcard/bootmanager/phonerom.
Anyway try to flash back to viperrom again then boot your recovery via fast boot since you are not s-off. And flash the update.zip from the phone rom folder. If everything fails just relock your bootloader and use the ruu.exe and you should be fine.

The command is: fastboot flash boot c:\(navigate to the sdk map with boot.img)\boot.img
For instance. for me it's c:\Users\(my name)\boot.img
Because i have my sdk and boot.img in my User map.
I believe boot manager creates the files for the second rom on the sd card. maybe thats why the D.I.R.T rom is loading.. My advice, try a different sdcard and see if the viper rom starts (you still might have to flash the boot.img via adb because of s-on)
I have no idea where the files for second rom are created so maybe if someone else could help out here. Then it should be a simple matter of deleting the second rom from the sd card and then go ahead and flash your viper rom.

Yes you will have to get new code from htcdev. Though i wouldn't recommend updating hboot cause its known to cause some issues with some roms
Evo 3D CDMA Sprint
I had it flashed from a couple of years ago and wanted to update it.
I flash a rom but it hangs on the reboot. Installed the sdk and have adb and fastboot. Have the htc drivers. 1.50 boot and S-ON and unlocked.
I connect to pc and run fastboot flash boot boot.img (after I extracted the image from the custom mod's zip) and it hangs on "waiting for device"

Take the battery out of the phone. Then put it back in.
Next, hold the volume down button and press the power button while still holding the volume down.
From here, put your phone aside and install THIS to the pc.
Now plug your phone into the computer in a different port than you've already used. Probably check the back of the pc.
Now, wait until the phone installs drivers onto the pc.
When all the drivers have been installed and say ready for use press the power button on Fastboot only if you don't see fastboot usb.
Again, let the computer install more drivers and wait until it says ready to use if a driver install prompts.
Now, download THIS and place into the folder that has the fastboot binary in it. Should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools.
Now, run a command prompt (type in cmd in run).
When the command window pops up type in:
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\toolsand hit enter.
Now, type in:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.imgand hit enter.
This should flash a recovery.
Next, press the power button again and you should see just fastboot and let it load until you see recovery as an option.
press the volume down key until you're on that option and press the power button.
You now should be in the recovery menu.
From here you can copy a rom to your micro sd. Also, make sure to format all your partitions except the fat sdcard.
Then, flash the rom you copied. But make sure it's compatible with your current hboot before doing so.
And now you're back (i love how i just typed all that from memory, lol).

Then, flash the rom you copied. But make sure it's compatible with your current hboot before doing so.
And now you're back (i love how i just typed all that from memory, lol).

Done all that. Can't send commands to it because it hangs on "Waiting for device" although the phone does say Bootloader USB.
On device manager it has an exclamation mark and I try to manually load a driver from the HTC folder to no avail.
Remove the htc drivers. If you have non then download htc sync and that should install. Plug the phone in. In fastboot. See if it reads it. I think might just have to find the drivers you need.
I did that when I first started messing with the evo. I achieved htc unlock and root. I was on hboot 1.58 and i flashed pac man rom. My phone would just hang. I didn't make a backup before flashing the ROM. So I booted into boot loader, HTC relocked the phone. Then searched for the ruu for the software version I had before. Then I ran it using windows 8. It went through.
I was back on stock, no root or anything. Then I proceeded to HTC unlock again. Achieved s off using a piece of insulated wire from Ethernet. Flashed ROM, flashed hboot 1.50. Booted.
You might need to use another hboot. Try those steps to restore your phone. Let me know. (Don't forget to HTC relock through boot loader.)

The obvious other option to get your phone working again and back to stock is to find the latest RUU and run that utility in Windows. Just boot up into fast boot mode on your phone and that should be good enough for the RUU to see your phone and carry out its mission.

Nope, the RUU utility doesn't recognize the phone.

Well that is frustrating. I don't know if you have already or not, but as mentioned above, try removing every piece of software that had anything to do at all with HTC and reinstall the newest HTC sync drivers. Hopefully all you have is a problem with drivers.

Also forgot to mention, you said you can still connect the phone to pc and transfer files back and forth, right? You can get the RUU in PG86IMG.zip format, place that on the root of your sd card and boot into fast boot. That should automatically start the recovery prices once it parses the .zip.
I've gotten to the point before where this was my only option. Hang in there.

I would use linux booted from a USB or cd. Fastboot just seems to work better in linux.

If you can do adb command in recovery, you try
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of= /dev/block/mmcblk0p21
boot.img being the one you trying to flash in fastboot saved to sdcard.
Also I would use 4ext recovery.

the most ovious answer would be to download the latest RUU for ICS, then run it, after it extracts and is ready to install DONT INSTALL instead
make hiden files and folders visible in windows go to your temp directory usually ( C:/users/ yourusername/temp/local/) google to find it for your OS in there there will be a bunch of folders with really long names like 7937498257239475297-37947 for example, start with the top folder and find the one that contains android files like adb and fastboot, in there will be rom.zip, copy rom.zip to your sd card and rename it to PG86IMG.zip then return to the bootloader on your phone and flash it directly from the device.
in other words
Download this RUU http://www.shipped-roms.com/downloa...06__NV_NV_SPCS_1.43_release_271101_signed.exe
- Open/Run the .exe (windows key on your keybord and the letter "R")
or
- Click the Start button
- Select the Run command
- type in: %temp%
- Search for a folder that has a bunch of characters and looks somewhat like this: {XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX}
- And inside that folder should be another folder that looks the same, and has the format above.
- Find a zip file called rom.zip
- Rename rom.zip to PG86IMG.zip
- place PG86IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard (not in any folders just on the card)
- pull the battery on the phone
- replace the battery and boot into the bootloader (power plus volume down)
- wait for it to load then flash by following the on screen directions

Its from the One forum, however the same version is posted in many other devices forum's as it lists multiple devices for support.
Its actually what I use for all my devices that support it instead of the OEM provided ones.
Works on my Windows 8 system with my HTC and ASUS devices w/o issue!
(This of course is to resolve the ! you have in the device manager for it, nothing else)
okay so i am having the roaming issue where i flashed carbon rom from nos and now my phone is stuck in roaming. i know i need to RUU back to stock but i am having major issues getting that to work. i am 2.24 with moonshine s-off and i am trying to follow this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2017525) guide to get back to stock and get my phone working again but every time i run the RUU it says i have the incorrect version and gives me the option the exit or go to the recover.

Okay I want to start by saying thank you for your reply. The first part worked and I am relocked. The second part ended up in The error 158 so I went to flash the new hboot and it wouldn't work. It says (error: cannot load 'PM83IMG.zip' :unknown error)
Any ideas?

Download 1.15 stock hboot. Rename to PL83IMG.zip. when u renamed it make sure is not zip.zip cause this file is already zip so u try only to rename it to PL83IMG (right click the file in your pc and check properties to make sure windows got it already as a zip extension) and place in the folder that contains ( in ur pc) your android-adb folder*
there is where any zip should go, with the exception of user preferences location. (or different folder named by the user)
Step 1) adb reboot bootloader
Step 2) fastboot oem rebootRUU
Step 3) Command to directory containing your renamed hboot zip (i.e. C:\android-adb\)
Step 4) fastboot flash zip PL83IMG.zip
*** When it says it is done in the terminal/cmdprompt execute step 5 )
[The green bar only fills up about 75% of the way]
Step 5) fastboot reboot-bootloader
Profit. Put the RUU Folder in same directory. right click and run it as administrator

am Sure you know this , but sometimes we overseeing a simple step. The basic make sure usb debugging is check, fastboot uncheck, try change to different usb port 2, cause usb3 doesn't work as well are you using Windows 8? try windows 7 pc because w8 have some security issues to need to work around. Dont forget first to try to Update Android SDK manager.
Try to change the location of your android-adb (look inside of adt-bundle-windows) and move android-adb folder to C:\android-adb
because we don't use any other file but android-adb, so is more easy to command to this directory, and is in this directory
where we put the RUU and the hboot 1.15 renamed as PL83IMG.zip. then run the commands explained by torrented dev*
Step 1) adb reboot bootloader
Step 2) fastboot oem rebootRUU
Step 3) CD to directory containing hboot zip (i.e. cd C:\android-adb\)
Step 4) fastboot flash zip PL83IMG.zip
*** When it says it is done in the terminal/cmdprompt execute the following ***

Help please
I've been able to return the hboot to 1.15 but the RUU.exe wont work. I get error 170. I use a stock htc cable. My hboot says its locked but i can still boot into my rom only when I have the ENG hboot but the RUU wont work unless im at 1.15. When i try to lock my hboot again it says its already locked but i still have root, rom and recovery access. I would love a definitive answer that will fix this phone before i smash it.
Thanks!:fingers-crossed:

Just did this the other day. Go here and get one of these rooted roms. Between this being flashed, and restoring the stock boot it was smooth sailing from there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471836
Thank you so much!!!

Not a problem. Glad you got it working, Should also mention that I was trying Carbon also, and even after I restored and rerooted I still never got it working on mine. Ended up being able to just flash another rom without having to RUU the second time.
