[REQUEST] Stock Telus System/Kernel/Recovery - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Tried SAUROM, experiencing quite worse connectivity, esp. when switching between LTE and 4G. Would prefer to go back to complete stock, like the AT&T Odin-flashable tar that Da_G posted here but for Telus instead.
I have CWM and Odin so I don't believe format is an issue (img/tar/zip)
Can anyone help?

*Bump*
I too request the stock Telus Galaxy Note Firmware... If anyone can dump it, please do so!

I would also like Telus stock rom if possible.
Thanks.

If anyone is running stock Telus and is willing to do a dump, I'm sure me or anyone else here asking for this would be more than willing to type up instructions/guide you through the process of dumping the stock stuff!

I have the stock rom but its rooted with dag. Then reflashed back to stock kernel, and it kept the root.let me know if i can help and how

I just got my Galaxy Note from TELUS, yesterday.
If you tell me how to do it, I will.

Also, check out the reset counter thread in the dev section. You can help us out there aswell they want a telus phone with 0 flash count to pull the code block

sadly, as I wrote to Jckpsa already,
you can only do one of the two things.
either dump system, or get the data for the flash counter reset.
unless there is a way to dump the system image, that does not require root...

Wouldn't the best solution be for you to dump the stock rom/kernel/recovery while jckpsa pulls the flash counter reset?

I did "adb pull /system"
and I got these:
folders:
app, bin, csc, etc, fonts, framework, hdic, lib, media, T9DB, tts, usr, vsc, xbin
files:
build.prop, CSCFiles.txt, CSCVersion.txt, SW_Configuration.xml
770MB total, 1,339 files.
And there is a stock TELUS kernel in the Android-Development section.
I can upload those system folders/files if that will help.

bump.
I really need a stock odin or system because somehow I managed to forget to make a backup and I need to exchange my phone...

As far as I know, you need to input this code:
c:\> adb shell
$ su
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p24 of=/sdcard/system.img
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/sdcard/recovery.img
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/sdcard/boot.img
# exit
c:\> adb pull /sdcard/system.img
c:\> adb pull /sdcard/recovery.img
c:\> adb pull /sdcard/boot.img
From there, we just need to be able to make it an Odin-flashable tar file. I'm not quite sure of those specifics, can somebody else pull through here?

Okay if a stock image isn't posted up in time, am I going to get hassled if I am within my first 30 days and instead put the phone into a bootloop so TELUS cannot see that I've modified it (unless they go into recovery or download mode eep)? I really wouldn't like to do this if possible but if I do, I'll have a stock telus note and will upload the rom

I say try, bootloop should throw them off

I think I would need to root my phone to pull those dds.
Glad to help if I can but my phone is unrooted... Let me know.

That's quite the dilemma if true - how does one pull if adb su requires root?

edit: disregard the below because I realized the thread is also about having the stock recovery.
Doesn't one just flash Clockworkmod through ODIN and then perform a completely stock nandroid backup
This is the point where one would then flash the rooted kernel and/or ROM. I was positive that I did a backup before flashing the root kernel but I believe I was a little too excited

Anyone with a new Telus Galaxy Note that is untouched should reply to this thread so we can get a stock img of our device.

Need AT&T kernal after flashing AT&T Model

Any help would be great thanks.
Source for the kernel has been released.just a matter of time untill the devs create something wonderfull you might look on samsungfirmware.com
I havent seen a kernel specific to the att version. Not sure if anyone has made one yet. You might be stuck untill e get one but I dont think it will be to long. Good money says D.G. Is already on it.

Yeah International kernels dont support bottom keys since they aren't on the Int' version so if you used one of the kernels you will need to go stock like you said or wait for DG to cook up his genius like another poster said.
This might not be the right place for this question and I know it's still very early but anyone think there'll be a way to unlock the AT&T SGS2 for other carriers? I know the Captivate could be unlocked simply by rooting and downloading an app from the market. I only ask because I'll be getting the phone on release day and I'm heading out of the country for 3 weeks. would love to use it wherever I go.
All you have to do is call ATT and ask a rep for the unlock code for your phone once you have it in your hands and they will give it to you.
Make sure to write it down and save it somewhere.

There may be a waiting period that i'm not sure about. I was under the impression you just had to have the phone's imei number and verification you own the phone and they would give you the unlock code on request.

It is that simple. However, a lot of recent new phones had been put on 10-month exclusivity clause by AT&T that includes Captivate which means AT&T won't give you unlock code until 10 months after the phone has been released.
The normal waiting period is 90-day if you purchase on contract. But given GS2 will be on 10-month lock, you won't get your code until next summer.
post a tutorial on how to get it and ill upload it for you.

Someone who has not flashed a modded kernel will have to pull it.
The good news is - you have the first step. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17777056&postcount=42
Now that you have a rooted kernel with a stock /system, you can get a system partition dump.
Get ADB up and running, and paste the results of running the following command in an ADB shell:
Code:
mount
From that we can figure out which partition is the system partition. After that, the following command (need to put correct system partition into it) will create a system dump:
Code:
dd if=/dev/systempartitionlocation of=/sdcard/system.img bs=1M
If you upload that dump to multiupload and put the link here, someone (maybe myself, although I'm 50/50 on whether I'll actually purchase a device) can root that dump and make an Odin-flashable system partition image. This can be flashed to a phone that has the stock kernel to get root and dump the stock kernel.

zImage can't be dumped without a rooted /system.
Do you have root via kernel? If so, get a dump as described above so someone can root their /system and get the stock zImage

Stop kidding yourself Entropy. You're getting this phone. You're addicted now.
I'll be getting mine tomorrow.
And my m8 is getting his the same day.
I don't get off work until 6, but I will be flashing mine with an i9100 kernel, and obtaining a system image. Then I will be flashing my m8's with that image, and dumping the zimage to flash back to my own, that is if you all haven't gotten it done by then.

Sweet. FYI, some processing is needed to make a dumped image Odin-flashable for native ext4 phones.

[RECOVERY] [AT&T, TELUS, Bell, Rogers] Modified 3e recovery with adb root

Hi,
It's not CWM, but this is the stock 3e recovery + adb root access, allowing you to use adb to back up other partitions, restore, etc. etc.
Flash the pda-recovery-root.tar with Odin using the same instructions as for the Root kernel.
If someone who has not yet rooted could flash this and do the following from adb in recovery after:
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/tmp/stock-kernel.img
adb pull /tmp/stock-kernel.img
adb shell rm /tmp/stock-kernel.img
then upload stock-kernel.img that would be good for making a return-to-stock odin image
Keep up with the awesome work brotha.
You're a maniac!!
<insert witty signature here>
I wake up to this! Nice! I cant wait for proper CWM.
Tomorrow will be a great day as I'm holding mine

telus galaxy note
hi, i tried to back up the kernel for the canadian telus galaxy note with the adb root you have there but when i use adb to run the commands i get an error message saying permission denied. does it work with the canadian version?
Hi, I haven't tested with anything other than the AT&T GNote. Do you get the # root prompt in adb? You likely wouldn't even have adb without the mod working, what error do you get for what command exactly?
when i run
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/tmp/stock-kernel.img
i get
/dev/block/mmcblk0p8: cannot open for read: Permission denied
then again do i have to be in recovery mode fir before i run adb? just figured out how to get into recovery.
Since I'm in Canada with the Rogers variant I was going to upload the stock kernel, but somehow I just cannot get into recovery to pull it, I've tried vol up+power, both volumes+power, and obviously vol down+ power is download mode. It's almost embarrassing haha.
I've always made good use of what the dev's have done for us since my N1, I figured I could give back at least a little
looks like i had to be in recovery mode. how big is the kernel suppose to be mine shows about 10MB
---------- Post added at 10:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:53 PM ----------
to get into recovery mode hold vol + and vol - and turn on the phone holding the volume keys and release the power key

Much appreciated, pattmyn
(unfortunately it looks like you pulled p8 which is the kernel, but had already flashed the root kernel, overwriting the bell stock kernel.)
(however, you can get the bell rom by following the same directions but substituting p24 instead of p8. note that it will be much larger!)

G, if i pull the whole rom from the device does that include all the stuff i have put on it already? or just the factory image?
Thanks for the stock TELUS kernel
I've incorporated some of the ramdisk components into my ramdisk for the next version (I used ramdisk from Skyrocket there) - differences are minor.
I'll get an odin-to-stock-TELUS-kernel image up tomorrow!

I wouldn't mind getting the images, if possible. Actually only need the recovery image. I haven't touched any of the others yet.
I have a Bell Note and am planning to try and pull the system.img, kernel, and recovery before I try ICS. Just trying to figure out how to get all three. I'm thinking from what I read that I can only get two of the three. Flash Da_G's 3e recovery +adb root and grab the system and kernal but lose the recovery. Or (and I'm not as clear on this one) flash his pre-rooted kernel and grab system and recovery and be missing the kernel. Catch 22 I think. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know. I just got the Note this saturday passed. Soo excited. But I'd suggest, if you haven't flashed anything yet, get a hold of braway. He seems to need raw data from Bell Galaxy Note to help restore flash counter to 0.

So braway got back to me. Long and short of it is one person Note can't give all the data. Some data needs to be lost so the rest can be pulled. On the up side, between two people, we can get all the data we need. One person to pull kernel, modem, mdm, and system by flashing CWM, and one person to pull recovery and flash counter data by temp flashing mashi's rooted AT&T system. This way we'd have everything. I volunteer to grab the former (kernel, etc). If someone else would grab the recovery and flash counter, we'd be in business.
Thank you so much to braway for the help, and marshals for pointing me in his direction!

Okay marshal, braway suggested we work together on this. Assuming you've done nothing else to your Note (root etc), if you can pull kernel, modem (amss), mdm, and system, I'll grab recovery and flash counter data. Braway already showed me how to pull kernel, etc in PM. See quote below. Let me know if you're able to do this. Otherwise, we'll need to find another person and different division of labour. Thanks!
braway said:
so, the easiest is probably to simply install cwm through odin
that will increase the counter, but doesn't touch system, kernel, modem...
then, boot to recovery
cwm provides you with root shell access through adb, so you can pull all the data you need...
I think the important data is:
kernel, modem (amss), mdm (part of modem?), system
commands (would dump the data on your internal sd, the sds are mounted differently in recovery):
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/emmc/boot.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 of=/emmc/amss.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 of=/emmc/mdm.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p24 of=/emmc/system.img.ext4
Note: that would dump it on your internal sd, replace emmc with sdcard if you want it on your external sd

I did root it, but it didn't touch the kernel. It was a video I watched from zedomax. The superuser-3.0.7-efgi-signed.zip. All it does is remove existing su, copy over superuser, change modes and thats basically.
I will do the commands you suggested and zip them up and dropbox them.

Ok, its syncing to dropbox as I am typing this and it says an estimated time left is about an hour. Speed 120 KB/s. File is 527MB. Should I PM Braway with the link or post it here? If its got personally identifying data (account info etc) I'd rather just PM Braway.

Braway only wants the flash counter which I can give him. But I can't give it to him if I don't have a backup of stock, kernel, etc for my own use. The whole reason I'm doing this is so I can revert to stock without AT&T stuff on my phone if I decide to go back (e.g.: for OTA update when Bell releases ICS in May). As I understand it, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but a rip of the ROM doesn't have personal info in it. If it does, I apologize for you doing all that.
Oh, ok.. I wouldn't think there would be info either. Any of that stuff would be in /data I suppose.
Essentially, I'm trying to make a stock Bell ROM so that anyone can go back to stock without having to use the stock AT&T ROM that some Canadian Note owners have been running into issues with.

[STOCK][ODIN][GB][Rogers] For those who wish to revert to stock Rogers

Edit: pda-odin-rogers-stock-system-boot.img now contains a new boot.img file that hopefully will include the Rogers boot animation. Try it out and let me know how it goes.
These are Odin-flashable .tars of the stock Rogers system, boot/kernel, and radios and can be used to revert to stock.
Files Available
NB: All files are zipped to save space. Please extract the .tar before flashing via Odin.
pda-odin-rogers-stock-system-boot.zip - This .tar contains the stock system.img.ext4 and stock boot.img and can be used to assist in resetting your flash counter using braway's method. Flash it via Odin's pda option. The recovery.img has been removed to preserve CWM if you've already flashed it to your phone. Once your flash counter has been reset, you can then return recovery to stock via this method using just the recovery.img file in the archive here.
phone-odin-rogers-stock-radio.zip - This .tar contains the stock Bell modem/radio and is flashed via Odin's phone option. Not working properly. Apparently I don't know how to make Odin flashable modem .tars, lol
Rogers-Modem-CWM.zip - This is a CWM-flashable .zip of the modem files. Should work perfectly. Let me know if you run into any problems.
SkyDrive Folder of all Rogers Files I've added all the files to my SkyDrive since my public DropBox links keep being suspended due to excessive traffic. Hopefully this solves all future problems.
Disclaimer
I am in no way responsible for any damages caused to your Note by anything you flashed. These files are provided as is to help Rogers Note owners return to stock after whatever they've done to their phones.
Special Thanks
Tearrek for providing all the stock image files.
braway for taking my constant questions and providing much needed guidance in my first developer-ish project as well as for the flash counter reset.
Da_G for the instructions on using Odin and indirectly showing me how to use the Linux terminal.
Please post your experiences with these stock Rogers files below and if you have any questions, I'll do my best to help. Enjoy!!
Posted in General as per Development Forum Rules.
Thanks for posting these files!
The only problem I'm having is flashing stock radio, always fail half way.

Well crap. I thought I fixed that. I might just package them in a CWM zip instead. Also, you can push them manually using ADB if you feel confident enough. If you extract the two files from the .tar, the code necessary is below.
Code:
adb push amss.bin /tmp/amss.bin
adb push mdm.bin /tmp/mdm.bin
adb shell dd if=/tmp/amss.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13
adb shell dd if=/tmp/mdm.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
Be very careful with this and check for typos as an error here can brick your phone as I understand it. This is provided as is and I am in no way responsible for anything you do to your phone.
Thanks to Da_G for this from this post.

I haven't tried adb, if I have a chance I'll do it later.
Please, if you could make cwm instead that would be great

That's weird. The boot.img was included in the odin flash .tar. Though come to think of it, I don't remember my Bell Note having a Bell specific splash screen. Did Rogers come with one?
I guess I should also ask where the files you provided came from then, lol

I'll pull the files from the CWM zip later and package them into the Odin .tar and post it. Hopefully that will fix the issue but I'll need someone to test it out for me. I'll post in this thread once I get it fixed up, though it may be later tonight.

This is done now. Original post has been updated accordingly. If someone with a Rogers Note could give it a try and let me know if the Rogers boot animation is there, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Any chance at a cwm flash-able update zip for stock rogers recovery?
Regardless this was fantastic, I won a Galaxy Note but it was from Bell and I am currently on Rogers. Now it feels right again. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Worked perfectly.

Stock AT&T Recovery

Does anyone have a copy of the stock AT&T recovery? I need to convert my M8 back to stock for an exchange.
I haven't been able to find one thus far. Also, are the recoveries from one of the international versions usable with an AT&T ROM? Just want to be able to get it back to stock with no tampered and unlocked flag, etc. Was planning on SOFF to take care of the other stuff, but still need a stock recovery...
Thanks!
found this, didnt look through it tho
hope this helps

Yeah, I saw that one too. No AT&T specific ones that i saw. One of the reasons why I asked if you could use one of those successfully on an ATT variant.

Actually, didn't even think about it, but I will have my bone stock replacement tomorrow. So I'll have that one and the one I need to return to stock. Now I just need to figure out how to grab all the goods off the new stock one. I was reading Mr.Hofs thread about stock backups. Do you know how to do it? Not sure I completely understand. Do you put the custom recovery in your fastboot folder and then boot that through the pc?

unlock bootloader, reboot system "so many people don't do this and it causes boot loop" once in system, copy supersu.zip to your phone.
get newest twrp but DONT flash it
keep twrp on computer and go to boot loader and type "fastboot boot twrp***.img" this will boot into twrp without flashing recovery.
obviously you need to put path to twrp in your command. Once in twrp, flash supersu and reboot. open supersu and update or whatever but VERIFY that you have root with root checker or something. while in system, open terminal or whatever you use and type
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p43 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p43
exit
When you type SU make sure you watch your phone because you may have to allow it root. This command will drop recovery.img into the root of your sd. verify you have it then copy it to your computer and on your old phone, just go to boot loader and "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
then "fastboot erase cache"
PLEASE let me have a copy of this as I did not back mine up. Message me when its done and i'll let you upload it to me. We need to get stock att recovery out there so people have access to it until ruu's come out. There is no private info in recovery either if you are wondering. I would have backed mine up but didn't know you could boot into recovery since you could not with the m7.

Thanks. I'll do it tomorrow evening. I just went through the instructions that are in that other thread. I tried it on my current phone and it seems to have worked. I browsed to the clockwork folder and found the 24mb recovery.img (twrp). I'm gonna do a full backup (recovery, system, etc) of the new phone right out of the box tomorrow. And of course I'll share it! I'll get with you once it's done.

Mega probably has the most storage space for a free account. If you download the dropbox app for your phone, can have it back up pictures there as well as other methods. Devhost is ok, but they tend to have slow download speeds, not that it would matter too much with such a small file.
I have a stock recovery image from my M8, if you still need it. XDA won't allow to post a link, until I have 10 posts. I will PM the link.
