[Q] Best ICS Rom for Battery life? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed the Resurrection 1.0 rom yesterday, but 30 mins web browsing this morning dropped the battery to 80%!
Which ICS SGS2 rom gets the best battery life?

It's best you try them for yourself, Just keep testing until you find one that is suitable. I personally, keep changing between CM9, WanamLite, Foxhound, Resurrection (Maybe you didn't install it correctly? Worked fine for me).
So far WanamLite is just right for me (Different ROMs have different advantages ) It's also Quite good on Battery Life.

Definitely installed ok, not much you can do wrong installing it tbh
Never heard of Wanamlite or Foxhound. Had been using Checkrom 2.3.6, but fancied trying out ICS to see what it was like.

After flashing a new ROM quite often you need to drain the battery completely and charge it a couple of times before you really get the best battery life from it.

I'd drained it last night and charged it fully, maybe I'll try it a couple more times before changing again.
Mind you shouldn't be hard draining it at this rate

80% Battery consumption after browsing for 30min doesn't sound right, out of curiosity, did you notice a sudden drop in battery life all at once or was it gradual throughout when browsing, Just asking coz I know some ROMs have an ICS bug where the battery would register wrong % values all of a sudden esp after taking it off charge, the quick fix for this is to take out the battery for about 10sec + then reinsert it.

It was gradual throughout the 30 minutes, but between stopping browsing and putting the phone away and getting into work it dropped another 8% or so down to 72% with no activity.
Might just be calibration errors. Hope so, it's a nice rom, very smooth and stable (the qualities I look for most tbh).

Cool!
Btw you can find a list of SGS 2 ROMs over here http://www.galaxys2roms.com/
quite nice to see at a glance most popluar (not all) SGS 2 ROMs.

Just try them until you find one that meets your needs.

[Q] battery drain in legacy 7

In the morning battery drains from 65% to 30% in a matter of minutes. Already tried unchecking all sounds and baseband is ks2. Anyone can help?
battery drain are one of the main things need to be patched up for ICS on Ace, but the developers are focusing on more important details such as camera. again ICS for ace isnt yet stable and are not advised for daily use. though i have noticed an improved battery backup on the basebrand XXKPO and i have suggested it to others as well you could try it. but then again starting from the unofficial cm7 battery backup for ace has gone bad on my opinion.
Not sure if you have posted in the right section.

Well, what I did was un-checking those sounds under the options, and that seemed to do the trick, somehow.
It's no point calibrating the battery, though. *Facepalms*
How long did the battery last on your last firmware, anyway?

i did those too, but when i woke up 30 odd % was gone..i was on infinity rom by nims11 and the battery easily lasted more than a day with moderate usage (a few calls, some messaging, surfing the web, games music)

AOKP, ICS Battery life issues..

I've been using the latest gingerbread builds and I'm having great battery life, But I notice when I use AOKP or any kind of ICS rom my battery life isnt so great..
Is there a specific kernel you people are using? and What kernel settings are working the best for you?
Thanks!

Good news that you are not alone. Based on my premature calculation, only 10 out of 100 (that's 10% ) ICS ROM users have good - great battery life, meaning the rest is having worse. Mine is falling into that group. I never have great battery, only so-so and below average.
Also as Nick has mentioned, asking for which best is a NO NO here.
One might be good for me, doesn't mean it will be good for you and vice versa.
Try them all and pick one that best suite for you.
My 2 cents......I know you have read this several times - but battery life is really dependent on a lot of factors - your AT&T signal, rogue apps, data sync frequency, CPU governor etc. etc.
read Entropy's excelled thread on battery drain on this forum.
i tried out a few GB roms over the last few weeks and really did not notice any battery improvement over ICS.
Currently running cMIUI with xxkernel and it is really working out great as in the battery easily lasts for the whole day.
I remember when I was on stock GB I could go upto 2 days on single charge - but that may be due to the battery being brand new. I have read that the battery in SGS2 really degrades fast
I have 2% drain per hour when doing absolutely nothing, screen off, wifi off, gps off during 8 hours overnite.
While someone has reported having only 2% or 3% drain over 8 hours overnite.

Have you tried using "Better Batter Stats" to see what is causing the drain?
I have been using AOKP since Task brought it to us and I average 1% every two hours over nite.
Do you use the Facebook app? That sucker is hungry for your juice.

I got BBS v1.7 for a while, that was absolutely no help.
I installed BBS 1.8 for about a week. Based on their info, I got the "multipdp" along with some other things (such wake-lock) cranked up big time.
I read the Entropy thread, not much help.
Note: Wifi is off.
Maybe 3G/H+ keep toggling for sync process?
I do use facebook! haha. and I havent used better battery stats

I'd also recommend using CPU Spy in conjunction with Better Battery Stats to see if the phone is able to enter deep sleep.
I don't get as good as you. . .I average about 1% or less per hour overnight. But that's with wifi on, periodic syncing of 7 accounts, scheduled backups and cache cleaning going on.

My understanding is multipdp will show when apps are waking the radio to use cell data - each wake instance results in a minimum of 6 seconds of wakelock. Switching to wifi when you are idle "should" eliminate this wakelock.
I could be wrong here...dig into the known battery drainers thread from around the time the first ICS roms were being tried on the i777. There was some discussion of it...it is a renamed version of some other wakelock in GB.

That's what I said, "maybe 3G/H+ toggling".
I believed that if I left wifi on overnite, do nothing, I still had 2% drain per hour.
Let me completely turn off data tonite and see how thing goes.
errrrr I have a huge problem with my battery. I've been testing various ICS roms and kernels(aokp, foxhound, serendipidity, fluxxi Kernel, siyah 3.4.3.,Neak) and all of them with the exception of serendipity w/siyah kernel, drain my battery real fast.
Not really sure what the problem is but when I look at what's been using the battery its most of the time either screen (which is understandable) and android os? I went to bed last night leaving my phone at 100% and woke up to find it at 52%. When I looked at what was using the battery it displayed, 93% android os and only 3% cell standby??(btw Foxhound ICS, Siyah Kernel) Maybe I have to many things updating/syncing?
When I first got my phone, 2-3% battery drain overnight was one of the things that amazed me about stock gingerbread on the i777.
I've flashed alot of roms since then, and so far, no ROM can even touch that stat.

What other roms should I try?

So far I've been using the epinter(8/22)JB based rom and while it's relatively stable and I love google now and project butter, the battery life is keeping me from using it on a daily basis. My phones been off the charger for six hours and it's already close to 60%. I was able to do some things with it to make the battery last longer, but overall they just involved me not using my phone at all which defeats the purpose. When I was using stock I could get day of use on my phone and end up with about 70% battery at the end of the day. I was even able to go two days without needing to charge it and still had about 50%. I've tried the official CM7 release and neutrino and the battery life was comparable to stock, but it was a little buggy. I was thinking about trying MIUI next and I don't know what other roms I should try.

How do I calibrate?
Download battery calibration app from the market. Follow the instructions in the app.

So it turns out my battery not being calibrated was the issue. I'm coming on 5 hours so far and my battery isn't even discharged 10% which is the best I've had so far ever.
My next question has to do with some graphical errors that I've had in a game I installed it on cm7 and there were some errors and then put it on cm10 and the same issues were there. Is there something I should clear to get rid of them? There weren't present in stock and I imagine they only appeared because my connection when I installed it in cm7 kept timing out since it didn't properly install.

[Q] S3 battery drain on multiple roms

So I have searched high and low looking for answers to my problem, but to no avail.
Im not sure if this is the right thread, if not please direct me to where i will be more suited.
Device: gt i9300 international
Im having terrible battery drain issues with every rom I have tried, apart from cyanogenmod 10.1 which I didn't like.
It seems as though the battery will not charge above 50 or so percent and then will completely run flat after about 5 hours, and thats on standby. I have tried liquidsmooth, cyanogenmod 10.2, AOKP and multiple others, (all jb 4.2.2 roms, apart from cyan 10.1) and they all worked perfectly apart from the terrible battery life. I was under the understanding that my current roms (liquidsmooth) battery life should be excellent but It wont get above 60 percent and runs flat within hours.
I have tested multiple chargers, charged it while on and off, always shut my apps when not in use... all of the usual battery stuff.
Im at a loss as to what to do.. How do I fix it?
Please help me xda you're my only hope.

Hi there.
Download megawipe
Download temasek ROM with latest kernel
Flash megawipe in recovery, this will delete everything on internal SD
Flash ROM gapps and kernel
Download / install stweaks
Choose zzmoves
In zzmoves lab choose yanks battery profile
In power tab set charge hard voltage to default
See how that goes mate.
Please use the report button this is not Q&A

Charge the phone
Install BBS (you can find it here on XDA for free)
Let the phone rest 1 or 2 hours
Show us what BBS have under "Kernel Wakelock"

2 Questions.

So I am currently running Carbon Rom on my phone. Whenever I lock my phone and I unlock it, in the notifications, it says that its preparing my storage everytime. But now, it says that my SD card is blank or unsupported but it works perfectly fine my computer. I've had this problem for about 2 months now. I've already tried changing the rom and clearing the cache. Also, I tried to take out my SD and put it back in but not luck. So please help on that. Also, I was just wondering, so as you already know, I'm running the Carbon Rom on my phone. It's a great rom but the battery life sucks. I would like a rom similar to Carbon that is 4.3 or 4.2 that is very smooth and also has great battery life. I tend to use my phone a lot, and I know that battery life on androids suck but some other roms had much better battery life on them, but I didn't really like them much. Thanks for all your help!
Played with Carbon and other roms, none are close to the battery life of Shostock roms (I've run 2,3, currently 4). And SS is about tops for smoothness and stability. Some of these roms are so much worse on battery life that it's pointless to use them if you actually "use" your phone throughout the day, unless you have it plugged in everywhere you go.
Far as the SD card not sure there, did it do it on stock or any other rom?

So I switched to Shostock 4.0. It's pretty smooth but my battery life isn't so hot. Maybe I just have to give it a day or two. And the problem isn't happening now. But usually, the problems comes after about a week of using a rom. Also, sometimes, there's random reboots.

I do know Sho roms are always tops for battery life of the i777 roms. Never had random reboots or anything on any of the Sho versions. There could be something else wrong with the phone, rogue apps, something killing on gps power, battery gone bad. These phones are two years old now, and a lot of people have had the battery itself go bad before that time, I just replaced mine like a month ago. Just randomly started getting worse and worse phone life over the past couple months.
I keep GPS on all the time, and sync etc, only thing I adjust is WiFi set to stay on in sleep mode only when plugged in (Android has always had that battery sapping wifi bug). You should try running stock though for maybe a week or two and see if the issues occur, if they do, it could be hardware issue.

Random reboots are usually due to a kernel issue, rather than a ROM issue.

Everyone will get different results, period. I get great battery life with Carbon, drop maybe 40-50% over the course of a day. Much of the building I work in, is a black hole when it comes to cell coverage, so I'm happy with my results.

So your not using your phone since there's no cell coverage? That's the thing I'm on my phone all day for work/personal, ton of calls, emails, text, browsing etc, used a bunch of roms but always come back to Sho on the i777. Have two employees with i777s running Sho too, same results, none of the roms they used had the standby and in use efficiency. Not to say the roms are bad, Carbon is cool, just wish they all had better life.
I will say if you notice a big difference like I did over last few months, time to replace the battery. Sammy shipped crap batteries in these phones, and it's a known issue that majority fail before two years are up. Mine did and my employees did lol

Yeah, so, I switched back to jeboo kernel but the battery life sucks! I'm going to wait a day or two and see if the problem goes away. Also, on this rom, I also sometimes when I unlock my phone, it always says preparing SD card. Its annoying.

If your having these same issues across different roms like you are, run stock for like a week at least and see what happens. Not sure what you mean by switched to Jeboo as Sho4 comes stock with Jeboo tweaked for it.
Also if battery life is sucking that bad especially on roms known for battery life, 99% sure its time to replace the battery. Samsung shipped crap batteries in this phone that frequently die between 1.5-2 years. I've replaced mine, two employees have, few other i777 friends have etc.
How long have you been owned the phone's battery? The above poster mentioned battery usage which (if you're still rocking a day 1 release S2) the battery is at the 2 year mark. Might be time to get a replacement battery.
