Rooted and unlocked hboot 1.5, what next? - HTC EVO 3D

So I'm now rooted and unlocked bootloader or whatever using the hboot 1.50 method. What's next? I have no idea how to flash or whatever and is like to try roms and stuff. Thank you!

on hboot 1.5 you need flash gui to flash roms I suggest you go with meanrom.
you might want to do the downgrade process and go to Hboot 1.4 and get s-off and eliminate flash gui.

If you are unlocked through htcdev and have s-on. You need to put a recovery image in the same folder as you have fastboot, mine is c:\sdk. Once you've got that image in there, put the phone into hboot mode (vol down+power). Now select fastboot in hboot, now plug the phone into the computer. It should say fastboot USB. Now go to your desktop and find the folder that fastboot is in, hold shift and right click in that folder, select open command prompt here. A command window should open. Now type fastboot boot recovery.img. the phone should reboot to recovery. From there, select factory reset, wipe cache, go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache. Now go back and select install zip from sd, find the Rom that you put on your sd card and select it. If you do it this way (fastboot to recovery) then you'll have the access to write to the boot partition and you wont need Flash image gui, although it is a great app.
If you don't have a recovery image on hand, here is the one I used when on hboot 1.5 s-on. It's cwm 4.0.1.4. Just change the name to recovery and put it in the folder fastboot is in.
Use titanium backup to restore apps and app data, not system data. And while you're fastbooted in recovery, before you wipe anything, go to backup/restore and select backup. This makes an exact backup of your current configuration. So when you want to go back, just fastboot to recovery and restore it, no wiping necessary on a restore. You dont have to fastboot to recovery to perform a nandroid backup, but you do need to fastboot to recovery to perform the nandroid restore. Hope this helps.

[Q] clockworkmod recovery problem

I have some problems with clockwork mod on my evo 3d (shooter) GSM phone, I got it unlocked bootloader and rooted. I flashed clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.0, I can boot in to recovery and navigate the menu, but when I enter an undermenu (like going down to "backup/restore", and hit power to enter) I just get the clockworkmod hat and a loading arrow and it seems to be stuck. I can allways hit power to go back. I think it could be that my phone is S-ON, but I don't know. Please does anybody know what to do? I want to get a new ROM, but do not dear to flash a new ROM until the clockworkmod recovery works. But, every things seems working in ROMmanager, so I could get a backup from there?! what is the problem?! Have tried reflashing clockworkmod...
In clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.0 , the power button is the "back" button and the camera button is the "select" button.
thanks!
Thanks to make me feel like an idiot naah, kidding! BUT THANKS ALOT! MADE MY DAY!
Orrrr you could install touch recovery and skip the buttons altogether! About freaking time

No, he needs to make sure that he flashed the kernel separately through fastboot, or through an app called "flash image GUI" in the market. If you used HTC's unlock method, the standard custom recovery won't flash a kernel to the boot partition, as that partition is still locked.
If you use Flash Image GUI, you flash the kernel first, then boot into recovery and flash the ROM.
If you use Fastboot, if you use command "fastboot boot recovery.img" while your in the bootloader (fastboot usb) you can flash the ROM and kernel at the same time. See, when you boot normally into recovery, you only have access to write privileges to the system, cache, and data partitions, because of the way HTC's unlock method is. BUT, if you boot into recovery by FASTBOOT, you get full write privileges to all partitions. You do this by having a copy of your recovery.img in the same folder as your fastboot, and adb (same folder which you put your unlock code.bin file in) , and boot into bootloader in fastboot mode, and connect your usb cable, and open a command prompt window inside your fastboot and adb folder, and type "fastboot boot recovery.img" and it will boot your recovery and give you FULL write access to all your partitions and you can flash any ROM as you normally would.

[Q] Flashing roms to my device/backup?

Im new to the phone rooting thing.
I have found a ROM i want to use on my EVO 3D.
http://bit.ly/HxcO6Z
I been looking into how to flash ROM's on my device and found this video which would maybe work since i also used his method to also unlock/root my phone.
http://bit.ly/HxcW6F
Question is what are the steps i should take.
What if i decide to change my ROM back to stock how would i do this without deleting everything on my phone like it did when i unlocked it?
Just read the tutorials.

You need to write clear sentences.
If you have root and flash recovery, just move ROM to sd card, boot into recovery and flash.
Make sure that you meet all ROM requirements

[Q] (BIG Problem/Question) Error after ROM Install. Please help.

i have been running Synergy Rom and causing a lot of problems so I have been tryin to install a numerous amount of roms and after wiping the phone back to factory and the dalvik then when its time to reboot the system i reboot the phone it just stays in the HTC boot up screen. so after a wait 10 or so min i just reload the Synergy rom which is the only one that works.
i am also running Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4 if that helps
i would really appreciate it if someone could point me into the right the direction thank you.
Are you on hboot 1.5? Are you flashing the correct kernel?
We're comin from a pure power source.
Yes it is and to be honest I haven't flashed them with any kernels cuz I never have before
Hmmmm, and you're doing a full complete wipe right? Which recovery are you using
We're comin from a pure power source.
Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4 and yes full wipe and dalvik.
Have you tried a different recovery?

ok as you know the roms come as .zips and we apply them through recovery.... some times that recovery doesnt writ the boot img correctly.... try installing ANY rom....then try to boot up... if it hangs at htc then pull the battery out then put it right back in and hold vol down and press power..then connect the phone to your computer so on your phone you see "fastboot usb"now the rom you tried installing that was the zip have a copy of that on your computer and open up with any program you use to open zips...extract that boot.img file to your fast boot file and where adb is too ,once extracted go back to your terminal window and type in
fastboot flash boot boot.img
it should say that its sending the data then writing it and then from there wait about 30 seconds and then select reboot and the rom should boot up

You cannot directly install ROMs with custom kernels on hboot 1.5 .
You always have to use "fastboot boot <your recovery>.img" or "fastboot flash boot boot.img" like the above post says..... If you dont use PC to flash ROMs with custom kernels , you will always get stuck on the HTC screen.
If you want to be able to flash ROMs / kernels / radios etc without PC, downgrade your hboot from 1.5 to 1.4.
Get flash image GUI from market to bypass fast boot and install custom kernels, or downgrade using unbeknownforce method and closeones live cd

Idk if someone already said this but for 1.5 boot you need to go into fasboot usb . Fastboot boot recovery.img
Replace "recovery" with recovery file name. If your using 4.0.1.0 it might be. Cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img something like that
Second option is use 4EXT and you won't need to use your computer to flash rooms or kernels

First I assume you have the adb drivers.
place new rom on sd card
boot phone in bootloader, select fastboot
Access the adb folder via CMD
type in fastboot boot recovery.img
it should say waiting for device then connect..
you'll see the recovery screen
this will let you wipe and install new rom on hboot 1.5

[q] help!!!!!! Bricked e3d recovery jacked up stuck in bootloader!!!

For people who came for an answer, here it is.
download android sdk
download fastboot drivers
get clockworkmod img and rename to imgfile.img
put img in adb tools
put adb, adbwinapi, fastboot, and the img file in c:/Android
plug your phone to the computer
enter the bootloader
click on recovery or fastboot doesnt matter since both will now take you to fastboot
goto computer
type in run in start menu
type cmd in run and hit enter
type cd c:\Android
type fastboot boot imgfile.img
you are now in recovery
go to mounts and storage and mount your device as a disk drive
download any rom to your computer doesnt really matter and put in on your sdcard. If you already have a rom on there then just use that.
unmount your phone
go to wipe data/factory reset and when it finishes flash the rom
once rom is done flashing reboot into android again.
your phone is partially fixed
now go to the market (if you flashed cm then flash the gapps.zip) and download "rom manager"
Then click on download clockworkmod 5.0.0.2 or something like that (first option)
Now go to rom manager and restore your backup that u made (If there was 1 before)
now it will be fixed and your bootloader will take u to recovery instead of fastboot when you click recovery xD
thanks xda
I flashed a rom and the rom must have been corrupted or something and now my phone is stuck rebooting and when I try to go to recovery or any option it takes me to fastboot so now my phone is basically bricked
Your phone is not bricked since your still able to turn it on.
Can you enter fasboot USB?

well it doesnt really turn on its a boot loop but whatever and fastboot is weird it doesnt want to work.
If your bootloader is unlocked make sure you flash the boot.img through fastboot and make sure you wipe

Are you S-Off or S-On? If S-Off, download a PG86IMG.zip of a recovery, and use your bootloader to flash recovery. From that point, just restore a backup or reflash a ROM. If you're not S-Off, I'd say you should try running an RUU, since you can't get fastboot to work. But I think you need to relock your device to run an RUU (if you're S on/ HTC Unlocked), so you'd still need fastboot. Do you have a different USB cable to try? I've seen them fail before even though they still work to charge.

Sounds like the drivers arn't installed right.. Like you said if he is S-ON and relocked he can run a RUU exe if he is CDMA...
If you are s off then you just need to reload another recovery. And then access a backup of a rom! Or just flash a new one. I had a issue just like this yesterday where my recovery was broken for some reason and had to go from twrp. 2.1 back to 1.1.1 and load another rom.

Ok, fail, i dont think i hav fastboot drivers downloading now
now cmd is stuck on "sending recovery"
Did you place a copy of the img into your fast boot folder and one in your adb tools folder ???

Can't load backup

Hello.
My Rezound is unlocked and rooted, with s-on. I recently installed the most recent Jellybean rom by Iamtheonetheycallneo via Amon RA Recovery and flashing the boot image with fastboot. Before I did this, however, I made a backup of my stock image.
Now, I really like the JellyBean rom, but it's just too buggy right now for my tastes and I want to go back to my stock image. However, when I try wiping the Dalvik Cache and factory reset, followed by restoring my backup, I just get stuck at the 4G LTE screen. I don't know what I am doing wrong.
Thank you!

I tried restoring the backup and then flashing the original boot.img before official reboot, but fastboot fails the operation every time.
Fastboot won't actually let me do anything for that matter. I get "Remote: unknown command" for any command I give.
Is your device still unlocked? I can throw together a PH98IMG.zip if its a fastboot problem.
Make sure when you run the command it says Fastboot USB in red on the device.
And make sure the boot.img is named boot.img and in the same folder as the fastboot.exe.
Go to the windows explorer menu and find folder options and layout and make sure "hide extensions for know file types" is disabled.
