My friend broke his i777 when trying to update to the newest AOKP (he used rom manager) I wasn't home to help him fix it and he accidentally used some vibrant tool to fix it instead of normal Odin.
So it is hard bricked, he got a jig and that's not working either. Any ideas?

If it is a hard brick and the jig does not work then i think you need to buy a new phone
If it's truely hard bricked, then the only option is jtag recovery. Mobile Tech Videos is a reputable vendor who can do that.
If there is absolutely no sign of life, then that is your only option. If there is any sign of life at all, then you possibly might recover the phone without that.

MTV repaired my captivate when i hard bricked it. Odin hanged on me during a boot-loader revert and it was toast. The guy that does the repair must have some special tools cause you'd never even know my phone had been opened up just by looking at it.
He flashed a vibrant rom with bootloaders?, that's the only way to hard brick a galaxy s2 from what I've read. Did you try connecting to computer and pressing volume up and down to enter in download mode?
Provide more information.
I don't know what vibrant thing he used it could have had boot loaders he doesn't know also yes I tried all those combinations
Also I am looking into JTAG repair now thanks for the help
Edit: are we sure this will work 50$ is allot (although not too much if it works) also where can I find this MTV guy?

Go to mobiletechvideos.com. $50 is worth it and he can fix it. And for whatever reason, they can't get it working , they refund your money. But they're a trusted site. They unbricked my captivate

Before you send it in for jtag repair...
If you havn't tried it already, try putting the phone into download mode by first removing the battery, then holding down Vol+ and vol- (but not power) while you plug in the usb cable connected to your pc. The key here is to have the battery out. If this puts you into download mode, then go to the Download Repository and flash the I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries including bootloaders.
Re: jtag. From what I have read, you can trust mobile tech videos. $50.00 is a bit less than replacing the phone. The XDA developer Adam Outler also has done some jtag repair for folks on the captivate, and may also do the sgsII. I havn't heard lately, but some time ago he was a little cheaper than MTV.
Yes Mobile Tech videos will work perfectly for getting it fixed. I have also spoken to him on the phone many of times and he is a really cool person and very knowledgeable. He fixed my cappy back in the day and he got it to work with our sgs2s back when they first came out. Also you may see if he can apply the unbreakable mod for you while he is at it. Makes it darn near impossible to ever brick it again with bad flashes of even wrong/bad boot loaders. And $50 is way cheaper than a new phone or even insurance if you now decide to accident run it over with your car before calling att.

I am wondering if AT&T would go to this level of trouble to determine if a ROM was uploaded to a phone or not to determine whether or not the warranty was voided? My phone froze under normal usage under one of the more popular ROMs. I wrote about it elsewhere so I won't write about it here again.. but it said something about encryption when rebooting and never came back from black.
My only concern is when sending it in under warranty at&t will reject and stick me for replacement bill..

I am beginning to think it isn't actually possible. I've tried everything, but I can't seem to brick my Vibrant to a point that I can't recover and Odin back to life. I read that flashing ROMs over bootloaders that aren't compatible can do it, but I was still able to force DL mode (never used a jig--haven't had a need yet) and Odin to stock even after doing that.
I say "with experience" because it is obvious that there are probably thousands of Vibrants that either hit the trash or are sitting in desk drawers somewhere..."bricked." I consider myself experienced with this phone. Been flashing on it for a year, tweaking signal settings, build.prop settings, and scheduler settings. The guys on here that have abused and really pushed their devices to discover the limitations are the ones who I want to hear from if possible. I don't particularly know if, short of dunking it in my coffee, I can be more abusive to this thing. This is one limitation I haven't yet discovered. Is it TRULY unbrickable?
It is possible. I have bricked 2 - most of the older devs have bricked at least one. This sucks for the guys that did the bricking but is good for the guys just starting out because they come into it knowing what not to do.
True bricks generally come about by way of flashing an incorrect sbl or have even happened by interrupting the flashing of a proper sbl.
Most non sbl "bricks", however, are nothing more than soft bricks that patience and perseverance will remedy.
I bricked my phone twice since I started rooting my vibrant. The first one when the usb disconnected from the laptop while it was half way odin. The second time was a hardware brick. The phone just simply has no light lolz. What happened was that I selected all the checkboxes when I odin the GB loader. However, I was able to bring her back to life after trying every possible combination while my heart was pumping 3,000 gallons of my blood in every minutes and my forehead was soaking with smelling sweat. lolz
Oh it can be done, install gb bootloaders from the old days, through light roms, flash the original axura rom, try to flash to stock. spend a week with a black screen, get warranty. Bootloaders are the kiss of death. Odin really only works if you can boot, and p.c. recognizes, through yellow com. If you dont have that your attitude will change dramatically. Youve only had soft bricks, not "The BlackScreen Of Death"
okies try harder, yada yada, yada

And I definitely do appreciate the work that you guys do--I was sitting nearly in tears (ok, maybe a little buzz brought the tears) about a month after I bought my vibrant in October 2010. The kid in the T-Mobile store actually rooted it for me when I went back for some help with my bill, so I had access to files that I didn't know what to do with. I tried to apply some crap theme that, at the time, I thought destroyed my phone and turned it into a piece of $400 coffee table art. My wife would have probably beaten me if I hadn't discovered XDA and the brilliant work you guys do. After that little ordeal, I got heavy into reading the threads here and slowly but surely, got pretty fearless thanks to the research you guys had already done for me.
One other question for you: If you had those bricked phones today, would you be able to revive them after an sbl brick?
I believe even the worst brick can be fixed via JTAG Service.
from my understanding and from my noob experiences this phone is unbrickable
Don't forget about the hardware mod that let's you flash boot loaders

It's NOT unbrickable. It's just hard to, unless if your just a total absolute idiot or a accident happens. I know my dogs pulled my usb cord while i was odining once, it caused a brick.
As the vibrant and the sgs are nearly the same, I've never bricked it at all... I just lost my IMEI that's all but that doesn't seem to make any problems at all. That's the only bad thing that happened to me : )

Hi,
I've soft bricked my phone several times and restored it with no problems till last night. I had GB bootloader on my vibrant flashed back stock rom using odin and then upgraded to stock 2.2 rom using KIES. Now phone is not responding to anything. I've spend hours on forums and chats i've tried almost every thing and nothing could bring back my phone I even let it chard over night like some people say did not help.
Please let me know if there any way to restore it? Again it has GB bootloader with stock 2.1 and than upgraded to stock 2.2 via KIES.
Thanks in advance!

I think problem is that most of solutions where posted for Vibrant stock Bootloader not a GB Bootloader. May be there are different steps are required for GB Bootloaders. I don't want to give up
With GB BL you have to use vol+ and power to get into download mode. Just an fyi in case you didnt know.

Thats exactly how I bricked mine, and found out a day after by stumbling across a thread on the dangers of using KIES, when I was newbee dumb!
Also, if you can power the phone on in any way shape or form, meaning if you see anything on the screen, or the LED's illuminate, then you are NOT HARDBRICKED, that is still a softbrick senario!!
And BTW the primary Btloader is what powers the phone one, and the 2ndary Btloader is what loads the OS or ROM!
And when the primary is corrupted, that's a TRUE HARDBRICK scenario, because if you cant power the phone on, then nothing short of JTAGing it , will resurrect it!!
Although Adam Outler, supposedly has a Resurrection program, to JTAG the solder-less way, using pin point test probes and his Resurrection program, to inject and re-flash the Btloaders and thus, bring a dead non powered phone to life!

A JIG will not work, if the primary Bootloader is corrupted it wont power on , JIG's only work with phones that will power on, and in his case he corrupted the primary, and only JTAGing it will resurrect it, unless he has the intelligence to try this alternative below, otherwise send it to Adam or TechMobile, the only two guys I know who are true Ninja's with this type of micro surgery!

Hi guys, my phone is flashed so I guess that will make this whole process painful...
But here is the story, I have omega version 12.1 I think (maybe 11 or 13) it has been on my phone for 1 + months now, so I am fairly certain it isn't anything to do with firmware. Phone wont turn on, wont go into download mode or anything. I have tried taking the battery out and leaving it out for 5 minutes, still nothing.
It was working fine before I went to bed, had 10 percent battery and was just on home screen when I put it on charge, not in app or anything. Then seems to be hard bricked after waking up, so happened sometime overnight.
I am not with a carrier, brought it locally outright at my local consumers electronics store (JB-HI-FI)
Since it is hard bricked to the point it wont turn on in download mode does that mean there is no way for them to know it is flashed unless they fix it (in which all is ok)?
Never done a warranty return, do I just take it into store and they send it off? How long will this take?
On top of all this I cut my old sim doown using a cutting template, and it appeared to slide in fine, but after trying to remove it today the push eject isn't working, and tips to get this out, doesn't appear to be enough room to grip it with tweesers.
Thanks.
So as we keep on saying in all posts, the next step u have to make is try with an usb jig.
U know what is that?

Since it's already harbricked, i'd say just turn it in and let Samsung fix it for you. It is under warranty, and last time i brought in my i9000 that I bricked, they just replaced the phone. the jig is ok only if you already know where to get one or how to make one, but if you have to go out of your way for it, just use the warranty.

Ok, Think that is best, can't really go without phone for 2-3 weeks while waiting for a JIG to arrive.
Just a few questions about the service centre, do you think they will ask me if I have flashed the phone? Cause I'm afraid they will think the brick was caused by that (could be) but probably unlikely since it died during the night a month after its latest flash.
If they do get it working will they go in and check the flash counter? Then what happens?
And lastly, if they ask me if I have flashed it should I lie and say no?
Thanks for the help.

Nope brisbane here, thanks for the offer though. What would the chances be of a JIG fixing it though, cause I have a feeling the mainboard has died. Kinda wish I didn't turn off the red LED charging light, apparently some others who's phones hardbricked the light still turned on showing some sign of life.
Any suggestions on sorting out the micro sim card issue now, assume I have to get it our before taking it to service centre, or just leave it in for them to fix?

-it will force the S3 in download mode
BUT
-it will not reset the flash counter like with S2
Got a little bit of good news, this might help other people out with jammed sim cards, NO damage and worked like a treat.
In the top of the sim card holder down the bottom left there is a little circle around one mill wide, got a sharp thumbtack and pushed it gentelly into the sim card, the just applied a little pressure and the sim card started to slide up, was very easy, had a great grip on the sim cad and no damage done trying to grab it with needle nose pliers like I read elsewhere, now to get the phone replaced or unbricked.
Thinking about it more I think it is a hardware fault, cause I had flashed the correct version of omega for international S3, I havn't had any wrong signs like freezing or crashing, been working flawlessly for over a month, then out of the blue completely dead. So I think I will just go into the service centre and tell them I suspect the motherboard has died, or the charger port (didn't charge over night), dont have a spare battery to test with though).

That video is pretty cool, don't have an old connector to try it, but seeing as my phone didn't hard brick from a flash going wrong while flashing or wrong firmware or anything I have a feeling a JIG or similar wont work. Would try it if I had the connector though.
How often do batterys and charger ports fail, cause that could be another reason I guess.

Exactly. There were no problems with the flashing part, i think ypu have a hardware issue.
They didn't ask me anything really, just asked what happened prior to the phone dying.
But i was ready to lie my ass off.. lol!
Dont say anything about flashing. They wont even bother trying to flash the phone if they dont get it into download mode.

Ok, thanks for the info, I've tried everything besides a JIG to try get it into a download mode, so I doubt they will get it into download mode, Ive seen a couple of other cases where the S3 has had a mainboard issue, only other thing is in the last week I have been using the wall charger where as I normally use the computer and usb, so not sure if this could link to it though, might have got a power surge, but had no storms in months so unlikely and the fuse box is modern with pretty good protection. Ill just go in and tell them it was working one night, and dead when I woke up the next morning, which is the truth. And if they ask if its flashed, ill miss understand them and say, not the screen wasn't flashing/flickering when it died, I was asleep
Reality is though if they get the phone to a restored point to where they can see the flash counter, then I no longer need their help to fix it.
One more question. At the service centres do they try fix it while I'm there, or do they tell s to come back in a few hours, or do they ring a few days later. And if they can't get it in download mode do they normally give you a replacement there? Or do they ship it off to get parts replaced and then ship it back taking weeks/months?
Thanks
I'd give the jig a chance. Just imho.
Btw it is very likely that the jig would arrive in, like, 24-48 hours if you choose the right seller, while other users already told you it's probably gonna take more then a few days (probably from 2 weeks to a month) for samsung to "close the ticket". In my experience only with apple you'd be up and running in less then a week.

I have the same issue so thought i would post here rather than starting a new thread.
Here's the story for mine. Working fine on current rom for about a month no issues at all. Today battery got to about 9% then switched off and i haven't been able to get it to turn on again, no download mode,no recovery, no charging led nothing at all.
I had to change my screen a couple of days ago, has been working fine with the broken screen for months, have i now voided my warranty?
A lot of faulty s3 i think... My s3 suddenly died last night. Battery is around 90+. Check the phone and it's not responding. Power button doesn't work. Doesn't even go to download mode or recovery mode. I'm running on stock ICS with root only. Sad part is I don't have any access for a jig right now. So can't test it. Bought this phone in SG and I'm in the Philippines right now. Warranty is good for SG only. Dec would be my next trip back to SG. By then no S3 as of now. For a phone I'm getting depressed LOL!
over the air jellybean brick my phone unrooted unflashed phone
BEWARE EVERYONE!! when updating to jellybean some do go very wrong! not all! but some do!! and it will brick your phone!! i updated over the air.. and for a few days. my phone kept on freezing! and locking up! one night i went to bed woke up and the phone was stuck on the boot screen! i thought thats weird took battery out, put back in, as ya do.. nothing took sim out and back in nothing... so only option was to reapair it through kies. put serial in and model number in it found the sortware. i downloaded it. told me to put phone in recovery mode.. so i did, kies said it was gonna install it to my phone.. but everytime it tryed to install it kept on saying it couldnt find my phone.. i tryed this all day long used different usb ports. different computers. to know avail, so my only option was to take it in for repair.. so i took it back to phones 4 u! they sent it away, i waited over 2 weeks! which was undiscrible it was like i lost my right arm with no phone! as you can imagine.. than the repair center turned round and said that the phone has been rooted! which it hadnt!! and they said this in order to brake the terms and conditions of my warentee so phones 4 u can get out of giving me a new handset. so they all save money!! i wouldnt do that to a 500 pound phone!! the phone does everything you could want from a phone! im launching a full investigation into this matter.. and have writen a formall complaint to phones 4 u headoffice, and will be contacting trading standards, ofcom, watchdog, and the ombudsman, and plaster it on all the forums ,social networking sights i can think of, to give them as much bad press as possible!! untill my problem is resolved and i will restore there name and clear it once they have done the right thing by me
I am afraid I can also report a bricked S3 here.
Rooted two weeks ago, but did not yet install a rom. Didn't Triangleaway yet aswell.
Same problem as described, I was browsing the net, and suddenly, screen went black (off). Could not get it powered on anymore. (nor in download/recovery mode)
So i brought it to the local telecom service center of my office, they could tell me the battery was fine and the buttons were working but they never saw one in this state.
So they are sending it to a samsung repair company.
This was two days ago, heard nothing yet, but I am very curious if I will get repaired or if I need to pay because of the rooting.
Will post the result if I know more.
Does anyone know if this problem also happens to people who did not root?
Bought one, but have to wait till it ships, so figured I would ask if anybody in the 757 has a mini-usb jig that I could use to get my Note into download mode. Send PM if you do.
Thanks in advance.
U can reboot into download thru recovery

Walk me through that one, no response to anything, power and up volume results in nothing. Plugging into usb results in nothing Windows, ODIN nor Kies registers it.

I think this is what you're looking for, yes?
http://galaxys2root.com/tag/diy-usb-jig/
Sidenote:
I thought it was "down volume button + power " to get into ODIN mode for Samsung devices
up+ down is for recovery

Yep am with you on that one, I have soft bricked before, but nothing like this, my very first true brick of my cell. Hopefully Jig I ordered at least gets me into download mode, where I can fix it.

If you can see the samsung bootloader then yeah there's hope otherwise you're gonna need the $100 fix for it.
But at least people are responding, I got no love on my end, lol
keeping things in perspective, as I posted before, I have never seen anyone report that a jig does any good on this phone..
You would be better off either using JTAG, or calling Samsung, and playing stupid, and tell them it died after you did an update that the phone requested..they will send you a replacement, with no questions asked.
go through the general and q&a sections; you will see that a jig doesn't do anything for this phone..

Well smokestack76 told you differently yesterday. He said over 20 times with a jig. Plus for $1.60 I will give it a try.
yes, for the price, if it makes you feel better, try it..
and, if you believe him, when you can find 20 others that said it did absolutely nothing, then that's your choice.
the sooner you send it in to Samsung, the sooner you will have a working phone..
If Samsung is wiling to send you a loaner phone while you're under warranty i can't see why you wouldnt do that.
I know Nintendo is awesome like that but apparently Samsung reps are quite jaded when you do something silly like ask an honest question.
I wish Samsung would honor warranty services if the device hasn't been on the market longer than year.
I'm A. Maybe he Made a mistake and wants to own up for it insted of weasling into a fraudulent phone.
B. I would be a little jaded as well when I get people calling me all day that have messed up their own phone and are now trying to steal from me.
C. Samsung does honor warranties a year after the device has been on market. YOUR WARRANTY DOES NOT GO INTO EFFECT UNTIL THE ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE. not when the first one of its kind rolls off the assembly line.
Also, wase a jig does work of you are not actually bricked, if you were to be soft bricked the jig would force download mode. I had a captivate I built a jig for, first thing I did was try it on my note. Bam, download mode.
And finally op it's a micro usb jig not mini. Mini is bigger than micro
yeah bro, I know a jig works for SOME phones; it helped me bring my S2 back to life..
However, I have read many many reports of it doing nothing for the Note, so that was why I said what I did..
Plus, people are using the term "Bricked" around here in so many ways, that its hard to know what they mean when they say it..to me, a bricked phone is DEAD, and nothing but an expensive paperweight.....
I can take a video of my note going from off to download mode with nothing but my jig. However the same jig that works on both my phones is out of resistance tolerance on my brothers sgs2.
And yes bricked is used much too often,it is a term to describe when your phone is inert, has no pliability and just sits there, like the baked red clay building material it was named for.
was curious to see if the OP had any luck with the jig....
Well the jig did nothing for me. I suggest send your phone to mobiletechvideos.com for repair, he goes through the JTAG recovery method, and he also unlocked mine... he did a great job. I bricked my Note flashing a ROM for another device by mistake, could not use the jig for anything, so had it repaired. Feeling really happy now... hope this helps.
the jig isn't and was never meant to fix a hard brick...
[history lesson]
Back on captivate, certain bootloaders would disable the button combos for download and recovery, making a simple (I hate the term... But) soft brick into a much stickier situation, so it was discovered that using 300k ohms of resistance across certain pins on the usb port from a powered off state would trigger download mode in seconds, making you then able to simply odin a stock rom and try again.
It was later discovered that the jig had the same effect on the sgs2 with the added benefit of restting the flash counter.
[/history lesson]
If you flash a firmware for the international note on an i717 you will need jtag because you are indeed bricked of the hard variety.

Nope gig still in the mail, however took Note to ATT Device Service Center and they told me mother board failure and replaced it. So might not have been related to flashing, inspection seem pretty in depth, removed back cover, using multi meter type of tool and said mother board didn't provide correct response to input. My mandatory 10 days to return no functioning unit is 17 Dec so don't think will have chance to try the jig before I send it back or be charged $549 for non-functioning unit.

Have you tried the alternate restore by Imnuts? If not I would give that a shot.
Did you use Casual on a S3 or did your coworker use Casual on an S3? If you used the Note 2 version of Causal on a S3 you are most likely screwed. You would have to send it to MobileTechVideos to be JTAG'ed for $60 which is better than buying a new phone.

say what? first of all you can make a jtag for like 2 bucks if you have the materials. or you can buy one on ebay for 5 bucks.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Jig-Don...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item51acb6eafd
but before that, are you able to get to download mode? if you are, use ODIN to flash stock rom. make sure you have all of the proper files.
if not, then get a jig.

A jig is NO WHERE NEAR the same thing as a JTAG as i have already stated many times in this sub forum and already corrected you on once. All a jig does is help you get in download mode when the phone doesn't respond to the regular ways of doing it. A JTAG is for when you hard brick your phone which is most likely what happened here.
Don't spread misinformation like that because it hurts the forums, especially when I have already corrected you once on it nicely. That does nothing but send people down a rabbit trail to purchase something that will do nothing for them unless they can't get to Download Mode. As long as you can get to Download you don't need a jig. A jig is in no way, shape, form, or fashion a JTAG and there is only one trustworthy person to JTAG your devices, that I know of, and that is the guy at MobileTechVideos.

If you hold down the volume down button the home button and the power button and you ARE ABLE to reach download mode you are not screwed at all....in the android development forum (as the person above me stated) there are two different ways to return stock....one has two files and the other has one file to flash back to stock through Odin...try both

Hi, I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535) which I recently hard bricked by flashing the wrong kernel. If I were to use a USB jig, would it force my device into download mode or not? Any help would be appreciated, because I need to fix this phone ASAP. :crying:
Bump.
I also would like to know
I have done the exact same thing. I have the i535 GS3, being the Verizon one. In a moment of severe inattention to detail, i tried to flash the international version of the omega custom rom, and hard bricked it. No response to any type of button combo, nada. I would prefer not to have to send it to be jtagged, its expensive. I'm capable of fixing it through ODIN, but i am unable to get it into download mode. would building/buying a jig solve my issue?
have your tried using ODIN
You need a jtag to repair a hard brick. I just sent mine out to a gentleman on ebay and he only charges 30 bucks. The usb jig will not do anything unless you are soft bricked.

yes sir, I have. The screen will not show anything. If i follow the steps to get into download mode, thus being holding volume down+power+home, then pressing volume up, will it work on a hard brick, even if nothing is displayed?

Thank you, i really would prefer not to send it away, i get a pathetic sort of anxiety when i don't have my phone, but it seems my options are awfully limited.
Could you, by any chance, direct me to aforementioned ebay gentleman?

I was a little reluctant about sending my phone off too but this guy has 100% positive feedback so I sent it in. I sent you a PM with the ebay link, didn't want to put a link up that may not be approved. Good luck with your phone.
My phone wouldn't do anything, not even a charging light, therefor it was hard bricked.
EDIT: This is the guy that repaired mine but the pricing is a little different now. Read his listing carefully and email him first so he can send you the shipping information. Good luck with your phone, this guy was fast and my phone is still running great. http://m.ebay.com/itm/281145512327?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1
US Cellular Galaxy S3 Hard Bricked
my US Cellular Galaxy S3 has recently hard bricked after attempting to install a rom called energy 2.0 when i attempted to install it said something about a boot.img i dont know if it was bad thing i dont recall and a code 7 error installation aborted.
so after it said that i just decided id keep the KitKat 4.4 rom i had and left CWM through the restart phone option. so after i hit that it turned off and never turned back on, i cant access Download Mode, Recovery Mode or anything no vibration no nada. so i recently decided to purchase a USB JIG from ebay in hopes that it will set it to download mode? however knowing that i have a US Cellular model (SCH-R830U I Believe) all of the descriptions in ebay for the JIGs say that they work for Sprint models, Verizon models and so on but nothing about them working for US Cellular models, so my question is does anyone know if it will work?, i bought it hoping it will work but i just want to know so i dont get my hopes up haha? thanks.
Did it work
