Sorry if it has been discussed but I couldn't find any info. I had just got my Amaze yesterday and had it perm rooted, flashed TWRP recovery, installed all my apps and restored most with data from tibu, had everything set up, I let the battery drain to death and then wanted to let it charge full overnight but I had some problems with it charging (led blinking orange) which I found was apparently due to TWRP recovery...?
Well I had it plugged in this morning to my comp and it was actually charging, so I rebooted via adb and found that all my apps I had installed were gone, the bloatware I removed was back on, not quite a factory reset being that my wifi was still connecting as well as my gmail account upon reboot. Any ideas why this happened? No nandroid was created either...oops. I have latest CWM on now.
Did you check if or the SuperUser is still there nor do you install them after the permroot process is occured?

Superuser is still there. I rooted (with Hasoon2000's toolkit) and then flashed twrp and then installed everything. Since flashing latest cwm it seems to charge fine, so can I assume this is in-fact associated with twrp? I'd hate to have this happen on a regular basis if this phone has issues.
and in what tool or flashable script did you use prior on uninstalling the bloat?

I used the 1 click toot method and thought I may return my fascinate. I decided against it and tried to root again with no luck. The root always has a bunch of FC's and eventually gets stuck. The generic ringer also starts with no way to stop it. Only a battery pull will restart the phone afterward. I have also already really installed the Samsung drivers for the phone. Anybody have any thoughts?
Did you go back to stock via odin...if not do so...and push root manually...instead of an app.
I did through Odin. Tried to push root manually last night. The phone froze right after the push and never recovered. Had to battery pull. I had all of the files pushed and got to the chmod and wait stage when it froze.
Hmm, maybe re push to stock in odin...make sure you are doing the correct files...though it sounds like you did...a second time around sometimes seems to hit the spot...droid used to give me the same issues with sbf.
Do a factory data reset after you redo the odin recovery. Make sure you are using the verizon file when pushing each flash and doing it in the proper order. Then manually root, dont use one click or an app.
Also remember to push the files one at a time and let the phone restart between each one booting back into download mode.

I've been working all weekend so I havent had too much time to deal with it. I wiped data and cache in the recovery menu initially and then the phone wouldn't allow me to sign back into my Google account. It kept telling me that I didn't have a data connection on 3g OR wifi. I finally did a factory reset through the privacy menu (not in recovery) and all seems to finally be working and completely stock. Now off to root and flash voodoo...
hey i had the same problem i made a post on how to fix it though.. go to the 0.00 internal storage issue mine was doing what u said plus more but i fixed it just follow the steps i set

Got it. Just for the record: Rooted, Flashed all three files with Odin to get "back to stock". Re-OTA'd. Somehow Busybox and Su were still there so I manually removed. Then changed my mind about returning the phone and attempted to root again with no luck. Re-flashed through Odin ok, then attempted root but errors prevented finish. Cleared data and wiped cache through recovery. Then my google account wouldn't resync b/c of network connection error, even though I had a working data connection the entire time. Tried booting into recovery and clear and wipe data again. No luck. Finally decided to use factory data reset from within settings. Now all clear, rooted again, re-synced my google account and all good. You guys rock. Thanks for the help.
So i got this lovely update from Verizon. I rooted using the one touch but never made any changes to the phone. Still using default UI etc. Just rooted to access saves, overclocking.
So the update reboots the phone, starts installing, and fails. Then i can go to the menu and reboot the phone. It will come all the way on, and immediately just shuts down and tried the update again. Stuck in this vicious cycle. Help?
Mount the SD card either in recovery or on a PC and see if there is a PG05IMG.zip on it. Remove it if so, then reboot.

You can't install an OTA if your rooted, even if you haven't made any changes. The problem is the custom recovery (e.g. ClockworkMod)
When the update tries to install the updated recovery, it sees that the old stock recovery isn't there, and fails.
As far as recovering from that, I'm not entirely sure.
Seeing as you used the one touch root, I doubt you installed the S-Off eng bootloader. Try what the above poster suggested first.
Thanks for the replies guys. I did have s-off, but yeah ill tell you i tried what he suggested with no luck.
I ended up being ok i made another clockwork backup, did a full restore from a backup before the date of the update, then did just a data restore from the backup i had just made. Phone is back to normal. Thanks for the responses, ill give you both marks for being helpful
I'm in the same boat, except I was silly enough to not have a backup made. I do not see the PG05IMG.zip from recovery. Any other possible ways to fix this? If I have to clear all my data and start again, I'm ok with that though I'd obviously prefer not to do that.
Boot into clockwork recovery and wipe cache only.

This same issue has happened to me with the Verizon update. Long story on how it i clicked okay to the update. I told it reject at least 3 times already.
Anyway - i was stuck in this nasty reboot cycle. I was lucky to have a backup from March when I first rooted my TB. Not having a more recent backup is my bad.
So I have worked most of today with near factory settings from my recovered backup and now I am restoring todays backup to see if I can fix this reboot BS.
I did the Wipe Cache from ClockMod and when the phone rebooted it gave the prompt to reinstall the update which I cancelled. So success!!! Now I can clean up my junk apps and do a proper backup to protect myself in the future.
I recieved my CLNR from verizon yesterday.
I unlocked the bootloader
used fastboot to get amonra loaded
downloaded Super SU from the play store
Tried to restore from TiBU, and its saying I'm not rooted.
Where do I go from here?
Worse problem....I have no signal whatsoever. I just tried to check for amonra, it is installed.
Everytime I have turned off the phone and turned it on, its saying I need a sim card. Seemed to be working last night, now, nothing. and yes, the back is on.
So I am stock, unlocked and I thought rooted, but I guess not. Can I root in recovery? I just dont know which one to pick. Ok I rooted in recovery and still nothing. I went into the supersu app and it asked to update binaries, I hit yes and it tried to install but it said installation failed.
Edit, I just flashed a different version on superuser and all is good.
Thanks
Heather
Hey all.
So just a few hours ago, I was running rooted stock, as per the guide in the development section. I then installed twrp, and attempted to flash a ROM, which resulted in my phone not booting.
Since then, I got into recovery, attempted a factory reset (which didn't work), and ended up using Odin to restore to stock.
So now I'm sitting on the stock image, unsure if I have root. Everything seems to work fine, but is slow. Also, I cannot enable wifi (the switch goes on for a split second, then back to off).
Is there a way I can uninstall twrp, and go back to complete and total stock?
If it's relevant, I get a constant "This device has detected an application attempting unpermitted actions..." error.
Thanks guys!!!
UPDATE: It still has root access.
UPDATE 2: I'm finding some similar issues people were having with the T-Mobile version (http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-g...connect-wifi-prevention-information-help.html) though I'm not sure whether I can follow those solutions. I will wait until someone can advise me on this.
It sounds like you didn't installed the complete stock image, that the stocked rooted image is installed. Have you done factory reset?

I tried the factory reset option from within twrp recovery, which doesn't fix any of these issues I'm having with constant security alerts or Wifi.
Got it fixed by doing this:

Is that even possible ? I have a rooted SM-G965F (EU chip), which I set up from scratch - OEM unlock, flashed the then-current stock ROM, flashed TWRP, installed Magisk and no-verity-opt-encrypt. Ended up happily with a current, rooted phone in factory conditions.
But it's been a while, and there have been plenty of updates for the phone, including critical security changes. I would like to put a newer stock/system on it, but I would prefer not to have to reinstall and reconfigure all my stuff. But the process I followed suggested that repeating it would force me to delete everything on the phone again (due to the encryption issues).
Is there a way for me/someone with a rooted phone to update to a current/newer ROM without losing all settings and such ? Naturally, I want the new ROM to be rooted again.
Still looking for advice with this

In general if you are going to upgrade your firmware you will have to start over again. IE: Twrp, Root etc..
In regards to apps and data do a backup first.

yes, just flash the HOME_CSC in twrp and you wont lose any settings. Might loose root, but its easy AF to fix

uhm, not at all man. the home_csc negates what you said
I'm mostly worried about drive encryption, or whatever that is called exactly. I (had to, I think) disable it when I originally rooted, and in the process it wiped my entire phone (which I was fine with). I'm worried that if I update the firmware, it will re-enable encryption, and then when I root again, it will get wiped again. Is that a concern, or am I worried about nothing ?
Also, as for backups, I use Titanium. Is that still a good idea ? I bought it ages ago and don't know if it's still current.

If you update your firmware it will re-encrypt your phone. If you do want to install twrp and root then the formatting will have to be done again. You can do this first then restore your backup.
Titanium backup should be fine ( I have it but don't use it,also have the pro version ). Just download latest version from playstore it was last updated April this year.
What ever your backup method keep it on your sd card or computer.

Well, I thiiiiiink the forced encryption is enabled on the kernel and only happens when you allow the phone to boot.
So, in THEORY you can update via Odin, and IMMEDIATELY after you flash stock updated firmware via Odin, flash TWRP and immediately boot to TWRP before you give the phone time to boot. And flash the encryption remover again and also root zip and then reboot. But I think it will still wipe your apps clean.
To make this whole process easier, disable auto-reboot in Odin so that you can manually reboot your phone and be ready to boot to download mode immediately. If you get anywhere past the splash screen (black screen after it or bootanimation) you can consider your phone encrypted again. So I would practice catching download mode a few times after a forced reboot before you attempt all of this lol
---------- Post added at 11:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:04 AM ----------
So, just to cover all bases, this is what you do:
->Boot to download mode
->Disable auto-reboot from Odin
->Flash updated firmware in Odin
->After its finished, you should get PASS in Odin but the phone does not reboot
->Manually reboot your phone and immediately after you see the screen turn off, press the buttons to enter download mode again
->Make sure auto-reboot is still turned off in Odin
->Flash TWRP
->Manually reboot your phone and immediately after you see the screen turn off, press the buttons to enter TWRP
->Flash the encryption remover and the root zip
->Quite honestly, I'd recommend a normal wipe to maximize battery life and performance on the new firmware
Good luck.
