[Q] Galaxy S2 white i9100? Not i9100g? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am confused.
I bought myself a brand new Galaxy S2 in white color.
On the box it says GT-i9100. Color: Ceramic White. Made in Vietnam.
When I turn it on it says I9100, not i9100g.
So I want to flash ICS but I am a bit afraid as I am not sure whether it's i9100 or i9100G.
Does the i9100 exist in white? It's from Vodafone Germany, and comes with lots of bloatware.

Go to settings and then about, will tell you the model number.

Given everything else you've mentioned, if it says "I9100" on the sticker under the battery on the phone chassis, I think you can safely assume it's an I9100. Colour has nothing to do with it. For example, in Australia, carriers here sell the I9100 & I9100T and both are available in white.
Edit to add - Rizur is correct, if it has I9100 in settings then you've definitely got an I9100.

Thanks a lot. Well, it is a GT-i9100. So I think it's safe and I will flash through Odin to get rid of all the crapware it has.
Is there any ICS custom rom you recommend? (For battery and performance purposes) Or should I just go stock?
Thanks a lot!

Thanks! Well, I knew it all along, it's a I9100. But I just was confused.

There are many custom ROM's to choose from. But make sure you back up everything and read lots and lots.
You get Samsung based ROM's and Android Open Source Project ROM's, read up on differences and what can be expected from each ROM, including pros and cons.
Good luck!
Edit: if you already know all that^, then I suggest HyDrOG3N -ICS, I'm really enjoying it

Thanks I will try it out. First I'm going to install the stock version and if it's laggy, I will try the one you pointed out!
As I am on a Galaxy Nexus with AOKP, I wanna see how ICS stock performs on the Galaxy S2. It's not for me but for my brother, so I still want it to perform well

What did you expect? They have to design consistent software across their product line.
XPlay-Swype
oh, was it meant to look anything like how it does on Nexus or is that a Nexus only deal, coz all icons are the same, dial pad etc.... ALL THE SAME
That is one of the reason I am still on GB ... and moved to MIUI GB now mate..
They dont want a change on their treditional touchwiz look.....but salute them for making the hacking very simple....lets find our own AOSP...
i'm on slim ics now.. it's pure google way.. but me too think ics gives nothing new.

You have to produce a model that is workable and usable by your customer base and their IQ .
jje
anyone that expected samsung ics to be like stock ics is an idiot
ICS on gs2 is sooo disappointing. I'm on XWPL7 with Sayid kernel v3.1rc5. Looks almost the same and battery sucks and i get freezes and random restarts... wifi is flakey... I guess we'll be the guinea pigs for now
ICS for SGS2 sucks...
IQ? IQ has nothing to do with anything. IQ testing is and always has been a failure for testing ones intellect
Whiners go back to lovely GB and flash all the kernels you want to make the already fast phone fly and
Run quadrant and be happy

[Q] Is there a way to use non at&the roms on the i747?

The title basically says it all. It looks like the SGS III models for other carriers are a little ahead of us as far as roms are concerned. My question: is there anyway to make sgs 3 roms from other carrier variants a possibility?
I'm thinking it might be as simple as just making sure the kernel and modem are stock at&t, but want to find out for sure before I try experimenting. Big thanks to anyone who can answer.

If you want to use a rom from the i9300 on your US variant then you are sh*t outta luck. Not gonna happen.
As far as using roms from other US variants on your at&t version then you would be better off asking in the forums for the US variants, not here.

We have a completely different SoC.
So no, it is not that simple.
Don't even try it, I've seen some ask a try anyway.

I9300 Firmware

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I've searched far and wide, and only been able to find the TW UX Launcher and a port of the very early 4.0.3 I9300 firmware. So that already kind of indicates an answer to my question, but I'd rather ask to make sure.
Are there any ROMs based on the stock I9300 firmware?
None as of the moment. There was a project long time ago about porting i9300 rom to sgs2 but that project was abandoned. I saw one rom that was skinned with sgs3 theme and based on stock ics for sgs2 but unfortunately the dev has been banned due to creating multiple accounts and giving other roms a bad name (something like that).

[Q] Snapdragon rom worthwhile upgrade?

I just rooted my S2 yesterday and am considering flashing the Snapdragon rom. My phone is currently running Jellybean on the T-mobile (UK) network.
Is it a decent rom? What are the benefits? Any problems? I did try doing a search for snapdragon but no results showed up.
Thanks for any and all help

Maybe you should check what other users of that ROM have to say (in the ROM's thread).
You have a SGH-T989 right? I thought the Snapdragon ROM was for the I9100.
T-mobile uk deals with I9100. You got rusty
@ OP listen to neo there, don't let this become a better ROM thread.

Galaxy Note: how to upgrade to 4.3 and change modem to work on Wind?

I've got a Galaxy Note SGH-I717M from Bell Mobility. I wanna get rid of the Samsung bloatware, load up fresh 4.3 and change the modem software so that it works on Wind Mobile. How the heck do I do this? :fingers-crossed:

This should be posted in the SGH-I717M forum if it exists, and in the Q/A section...

I've heard of people doing what I described, so there's gotta be a way...
4.3 doesn't exist for the SGH-I717 in fully functioning form yet. The only "release" I've seen was from JamieD and he pointed out right up front that the sound did not work on that ROM. I flashed it and ran it for a while and it was very smooth but not ready yet. Won't be long though so hang in there a little while, there are a lot of us waiting for 4.3!
4.3 isn't a huge update anyways lol

You can try Jamies 4.3 build but as far as I know sound still isn't working
Where is the link? I can't see anywhere.

Ok cool, so what do I do to upgrade to the latest stable ROM and change the modem software so that it works on Wind?
When you say "stable", it can be interpreted in different ways.
The absolute rock-steady stable will be stock-based ROMs, like blackjelly and Padawan.
If you mean "stable enough" for a daily use, you can use any of the 4.2.2 roms. You will have to research and read to find out what is working and what isn't. For me personally, I am using uXylon rom with Uber kernel. Mostly stable, except reboots occasionally.
And you will have to find a modem and flash it separately. I believe you will need to flash a t-mobile modem, but I am not sure. You can search the forum to see if anyone else has done it before. I am sure it was asked before.
thought i would chime in since some people are giving extremely bogus information and should just not comment.
the only difference between the Telus i717d, Rogers i717r, Bell i717m and the ugly one of the bunch the ATT i717*I HATE PHONE BRANDING!* is the bloat loaded onto the phone and the firmware/baseband versions
every single rom in this section will work on every single i717, it may react different on some as not all phones are made identical but in everyday terms they are the same phone...
even the modems are interchangeable between all of them, i run an unlocked att i717 with telus modem, before that i had an i717m and ran telus modem.
