[Q] Hboot 1.490018 not supported? - HTC EVO 3D

Hi hope someone can help or point me in the right direction. Ive already unlocked/rooted, haved CWM installed on my phone and S-on. I want to S-off but revolutionary program says my device isn't supported. I have a Evo 3D GSM European Hboot 1.49.0018. How can i get the S-off? I tried to flash infected eternity Rom and bootlooped each time i tried. I wiped dalvik, data, cache etc...i was wondering if S-on has anything to do with me bootlooping? Thanks for your advice.

ROMS that are not using stock kernel (Please correct me if I'm wrong, I only been here on the EVO 3D forums for 2 weeks ), can't be flashed with S-ON.
I believe you can downgrade your hboot and go S-Off. How that exactly works, I have no clue unfortunately.

Okay....i've tried to flash 2 different Roms now and all i get is a boot loop. I just tried to flash shooter beats but with no luck. Can anyone else shed some light on this issue? Does anyone know how to downgrade Hboot to turn S-off? Or point me in the right direction please?

I had that same hboot and was able to downgrade it using Flashmaniac's tool in the Dev section. Just follow his instructions, it worked for me. It does state, however, you must have one of the listed cid numbers (which I had, you'll need to check yours). There's a free app on the market called cid checker, it will find this info for you.
Once you've downgraded your hboot you can follow the normal procedure to s-off with Revolutionary.
Hope this helps
By the way, I've heard you can still flash roms if you're S-on if you extract the boot.img from the zip file of the rom and flash this first through fastboot. I'm not sure exactly what the procedure is but there are threads about it in the Dev section. Please don't try it without reading up first though, as I don't know much about the risks involved, if any.

Mine was 0018, but I downgraded it to 0007 using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495657&highlight=vodaphone+hboot
------------------------------------
Please give thanks if i've helped you!

Thanks for your responses friends. I managed to flash a rom with a stock kernel through CWM as was indicated in one of the posts. Thanks for that. I'm going to give the other options to S-off and downgrade a try tonight. I think the Evo is a lot harder to manage than the atrix and razr! I modded them phones no problem! I'll feedback to you tonight and let you know how it went.

Okay...i've downloaded flashmaniac tool for downgrading Hboot. I put my phone in USB debug mode, charge only, extract and run step 1, but nothing happens! I even tried step 2 but nothing! It seems that the program isn't seeing my phone. I don't have HTC sync installed, and i have the HTC drivers. So, i cant figure out whats wrong. I've even allowed install of unknown sources on my phone. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Did you make sure usb debugging was checked in settings??

hello i had problems with my unlocked, rooted but S ON evo with 0018 Hboot...
if you are S ON and want to flash a rom, here's the way :
1 Be near your PC.
2 extract boot.img from the zip you want to flash
3 flash the rom into recovery
4 DON'T REBOOT !!!
5 Power Off
6 go to fasbtoot USB
7 fastboot flash boot boot.img
8 reboot
9 done, worked for me

Hey,
My 3VO is not possible to S-OFF atm so I'm stuck with S-ON. To install ROMS that require S-OFF its easier to just enter recovery via fastboot. But that requires a computer.
The other solution is HTC Dumlock: http://teamw.in/project/htcdumlock
Using that method you can install roms on your phone without a computer.

Also it is a lot easier to just enter recovery from fastboot and install the ROM normally. Doing all that is just unnecessary to my knowledge.

your right, i remember back in the days, the first flash of my n1...
i applied this method after a normal flash and being stuck on withe htc screen... and someone on another thread told me to flash into recovery then flash the boo.img.
but yes do the whole flashing via fastboot is OK but in some roms like leedroid you cant choose some elements via aroma installer.

I myself can't say if aroma Installer works threw recovery via fastboot because I simply haven't tried it. I personally use HTC Dumlock and used it the other day to install LeeDroid. Aroma installer worked fine, everything worked except for the touch screen interface on the installer, had to use volume buttons, no big deal though.

I also have this Hboot and it can't be temporary rooted.
Is there any way to just root device with this Hboot? I don't want S-off.

Thanx for all your responses. After 8 hours today, i finally managed to s-off my evo. It wasn't easy. I finally changed my Hboot to 1.49.0007, using official firmware with European Hboot (PG86IMG.zip), xvi32.rar hex editor, adb, and fastboot. I had to relock my device through the process, and then use HTCDEV to unlock it once again. Once unlocked, i used revolutionary to gain root, recovery, and to S-off. There were a few tweaks which i had to make to get it to work. If anyone needs help please message me and i'm more than willing to help! I'm currently running Infected Rom Eternity 3.5 Nightly with no problems.

Yes there is, you have to unlock it with the HTC unlock tool (This will wipe your device so backup your phone, it will not wipe your SD card though):
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/
Download this onto your SD card:
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Then download this pack of files onto your computer:
http://www.mediafire.com/?49156dz8d36xva3
After you have unlocked your bootloader with the HTC Tool.
Reboot into bootloader > fastboot and plug in a USB
Double click Open cmd in the pack of files you downloaded and type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery-GSM.img" (or recovery-CDMA.img if you have a CDMA phone)
When that is all done, boot into recovery mode and do a full backup. (nice to have a backup of complete unmodified stock ROM).
Last step, while staying in Recovery press install from zip file and find
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
When thats all finished just reboot and you should have a rooted stock ROM with S-ON

Trying to root using HTC 1.5 with no success.
Hi to all I have tried to root using the HTC boot unlocker with no success. I was using the step by step instructions from HTC evo hacks. I got to the step at the command prompt where I put in the unlock code and I got this : C:\rootevo3dnew>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.152s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...
(bootloader) unlock token check successfully
OKAY [ 0.007s]
finished. total time: 0.161s
The phone screen asking me to unlock the bootloader never came up. Any help would be appreciated. BTW I have rooted at least 7 EVO 3D's. with no problems.

See the Guide/flashing Notes in my signature. You need to rerun the currently installed "FULL" Ruu or the the Latest RUU, then the unlock will work.
I did the HTCDev and unlocked it went to thread on downgrade from 1.5 hboot to 1.4 tried that and it did not work. I went to try the wire trick and this is what I get when I try to use the controlbear. the phone connects and goes through process but says the following...
======== ControlBear 0.6 beta for JuopunutBear S-OFF ==========
Starting up......
Connecting to device...
Searching device.....
Found device.....but device has no root!!
Press ENTER to exit.....
Any help would be helpful I have tried superuser but wont install, tried rootevo3dnew, temproot sensation Ect. everything says I need to be rooted.
I am running stock rom that shipped with phone and yes I did updates. I am Sprint CDMA 2.17 rom shipped, 1.5 Hboot. I have flashed roms and modded before but dont consider myself to be advanced. I have done flashing and installing roms with my old HTC Touch pro2 but alot easier on touch pro2 LOL... Please point me in the correct place I have beeen all over from this thread to that one and back and forth and yes I have search threads and I have tried them but still come back to the one with wire trick.. Ok, let's make sure we know where you are at to start with. When you use the vol and power button to boot to fastboot, does the phone show "unlocked". If not, I think you need to do the htc method again. I have not kept up recently, but I am not sure there is any method other than the HTC method that works every time for 1.5. I have used the HTC method on two phones without a problem, so that is the method I use.
Once you get that far, I used adb to push or flash the twrp image into the recovery section of the phone. Then you should be able to flash superuser via the install menu of twrp. There are threads that have detailed explanations on how this is done.
Yea, I had a bit of a learning curve from my TP2 also, but love this phone!

In my post Ive included a flashable SuperSU zip. What youll need to do is boot to recovery and install this zip. Then reboot. You should have superuser access then.
Still learning this forum so excuse any errors I make. I've spent the last 10 hours trying to fix the mess I created on my wife's Evo 3d. I was able to root my phone and it was relatively easy so I tackled hers as well and have gotten a bootloop I cannot figure out, 10 hours later. I'm on hboot 1.5. I unlocked the phone (using a pretty reliable video), loaded 4EXT Recovery then tried to load roms. Everything worked fine until the rom-loading portion. Since then, the phone loops, but once or twice it made it all the way to the main screen and before I could slide the ring, a read error message appeared next to the bars of service then the phone just completely reboots. Right now, the only thing I can get into is the bootloader and the clockworkmod v4.0.1.4, somehow I lost my 4EXT Recovery. I'm stuck and in dire straights as my wife is going out of town and will KILL me if I don't fix her phone. Please help! BTW, somehow I managed to NOT back anything up (stupidity on my part). Will I be able to get this thing back to stock at least or is it now a paperweight?

Your not bricked by any means. And Im going to guess you tried to boot an ICS rom.. dont. They dont work with hboot 1.5. If you really want to go back to stock run the 2.17 RUU and youll be back to where you started. Another option is to download a GB rom and flash that. Not ICS. If your able to get to the bootloader than you can still load up 4ext recovery so you can flash the GB rom.
Edit: some hboot 1.5 users are lucky and can flash them if they used the correct VM firmware but majority of users have problems.

Thanks, I just tried flashing a rom that has taken it back to stock but I'm still in the bootloop. Should I stop flashing and simply locate the RUU?
22410,
It sounds like the kernel did not flash correctly with 4ext Recovery (next time, make sure u indicat S-on in its settings). I'm not sure if you were just stock 2.17 rooted or not, but use 7zip on your pc to open & extract/copy out the "boot.img" file from the rom, zip, etc you were using and copy it to your fastboot pc folder. Still have the Cwm 4.0.1.4 recovery.IMG file there too right (or the 4ext recovery.img file)? Ok...
- put phone in fastboot usb mode
From PC's fastboot command prompt type:
- " fastboot flash boot boot.img "
(this will reflash the kernel/boot image extracted from a rom)
If your recovery is screwed up:
- " fastboot flash recovery YourRecoveryFilename.img "
(ie: cwm_4.0.1.4_recovery.img or recovery.img, etc as listed in fastboot folder, to reflash a recovery to your phone).
With S-on, to properly enter a recovery for flashing ANYTHING you must:
- " fastboot boot YourRecoveryFilename.img "
(doesn't apply if using 4ext's Smartflash or TWRP's Dumlock settings. But you must have a bootable android OS/kernel first, once the flash is screwed it won't work).
If u have a Sprint CDMA EVO3D/HTC Unlocked & S-on (not Jbear s-Off), then the guide in my signature has more info.
Edit: as NIN said you will likely have problems flashing ICS roms with S-on (hboot version doesn't matter). If u are still unlocked & have a working recovery u can flash any gb Rom successfully after wiping system, data, & cache (or run superwipe zip). Meanrom GB v4.5 recommended.

[Guide] How To Gain S-off on H-Boot 1.58

Since the official ICS release from Sprint is out, I decided to write this guide to help those who did the OTA before being s-off. This is for Windows users.
The official JuopunutBear S-OFF site, http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear-public-beta-0-1/instructions/evo-3d-cdma-shooter/ has been updated to say that their app is for either Sprint's 1.5 or lower Hboot or for the Virgin Mobile Evo V. However, if you have Hboot 1.58, it is still possible, using their older (now removed) ICS leak zip file.
What you will need :
1. Be HTC unlocked. (yes, it does still work for 1.58)
2. a copy of the 4EXT recovery.img (included)
3. ADB & fastboot software/drivers installed (ADB and Fastboot included in zip, just make sure you have drivers installed)
4. a rom that was based on the VM ICS leak. (I used MeanRom ICS version 2.4, Thank you Mikeyxda) Download it here (do not try anything newer than version 2.4, as newer builds are based off of the official sprint build)
I can confirm that rom works, i have not tried other roms based on the same VM leak.
5. A copy of the JB app for the Early ICS leak. (included)
All of those files will be in the zip (rom excluded) linked at the bottom of the post.
Step 1: HTC unlock your bootloader http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
Step 2: Download the zip containing all of the files you will need. (unzip to root of hard drive, it will make it easier to find)
Step 3: Flash 4EXT recovery.
Open a command prompt window, and change directory to where you unzipped the file. (i.e - C:\s-off) [for windows 7 users, you can just hold Shift key down while right clicking on the folder and select "open command window here"]
now enter the command "adb push recovery.img /sdcard/" (without the quotes)
once it finishes, enter "adb reboot bootloader"
once the bootloader loads, enter "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
once it is finished, enter "adb reboot recovery"
when recovery 4EXT recovery boots and loads, press "tools" on the menu, scoll down to "enable 4EXT smartflash" and select it.
Step 4: flash MeanRom ICS version 2.4
Step 5: once the rom is loaded, goto "settings" then "developer options" and enable usb debugging.
Step 6: using included JuopunutBear software, do the wire trick as described here http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear-public-beta-0-1/instructions/evo-3d-cdma-shooter/
Once you have successfully completed the JB wire trick, you will be HBoot 1.58 S-off, at which point you can downgrade your h-boot to whichever you prefer. (my preference is the 1.04 ENG HBoot)
Download the needed files here (rom excluded, of course)
Thanks & credits :

according to the site they were saying h-boots 1.5 and below. thats why i made this guide. i told them in irc that it worked on 1.58, but they told me they hadnt made some necessary changes for it to recognize the newer ICS OTA from sprint. when i tried it after going back s-on then accepting the update their app wouldnt work with it, it kept failing. i've yet to receive a response as to if they updated it to work with the OTA or not. but the VM leaks of ICS i can confirm work still

Thanks! I think I am going to hold off and wait a few days to see if they update. I am in no hurry.
Very nice!
I tried doing this with with S-ON and HBOOT 1.58, using 4ext and the ROM you recommended and somehow ended up in a boot loop when Juopunutbear restarted my phone.
I can boot into the boot loader and recovery, and I've tried flashing different ROMs, all to no avail. The latest RUU I can find (2.17.615.5) won't work because of bootloader version mismatch. I should also note that I was on MeanROM v2.6 prior to flashing to 2.4 to try this, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Any ideas on what I can do to get my phone back to a working condition?
Thanks!

Yeah, the same happened to me. Looking for a solution. Will post if I find it.
EDIT: Okay I got it. I flashed the stock rooted ICS rom that is available in the dev thread. I then extracted the boot.img and flashed it with fastboot. The boot.img is inside the kernel folder of your rom zip. Place the boot.img where your fastboot.exe is located, open your command prompt and type
fastboot flash boot boot.img

Wow, you're a savior! I just wish I had posted this sooner, you would've saved me a two day headache, heh

Just want to report back and say I was able to successfully S-off after getting back into a working state.
I ran superwipe and followed the steps in the OP (enabled 4EXT SmartFlash, flashed MeanROM v24, enabled USB debugging, and used the JuopunutBear in the OP's link).
I think I might have originally used the newest JuopunutBear by mistake, which caused the boot loop.
Thanks for all the help, and great work!
Yeah, stock rooted ROMS are the way to go.

Get yourself some copper wire from an old cord. I used a twist tie with exposed ends - I read this on another thread somewhere. Considering that's what I used, and my SD card died, I wouldn't recommend it. I also read that a paper clip wrapped in electrical tape works.
Cut a Ethernet cord open and use an inside wire they work fabulous

Flashing RUU returns to out-of-the-box stock?

I'm struggling with all the terminology and methods with flashing. Basically I just wanted root, so I read several different guides and got a rooted status and managed to install the Amon Ra recovery. However my bootloader (also called HBOOT - is that correct?) shows tampered / unlocked now. Basically, I want to flash back to the most current build and try again.
Would the link on the Android Police forums to download RUU 4.03.605.2 be latest Verizon build as if it were fresh out of the box?
I checked on the wiki, but didn't see anything for the Rezound there.
Also, to use this utility, I relock my bootloader using HTCDev and then move this zipped file to my sd card and reboot to the bootloader either using adb or the power + volume down, correct? It will see the zip file and begin flashing or do I run an executable from my PC with the phone connected? I'm not S-Off because I figured that is way above my head at this point.
I appreciate any help anyone can offer.
The tampered just means you have a custom recovery like Amon Ra installed.

If I want to load that RUU, do I have to relock my bootloader? Will I be able to load the file from the Android Police forum without being S-OFF since I've rooted and loaded a recovery?

Having S-OFF negates the need to relock your bootloader.
You should be able to flash the "RUU" zip file with your phone in its current condition.
If you do some research in this section in the S-OFF threads, you'll get some good info about not re locking after s-off.
Re-locking is only necessary if you don't have s-off.

to reinstall the RUU, first make sure you have fastboot on your PC and your phone is in the fastboot menu of the bootloader and connected to your PC. It should say "fastboot USB". (If you don't have the HTC drivers installed, download HTC Sync 3.0 and that should install it. I haven't gotten it to work on Windows 8 so if you use Windows 8 use these drivers)
Open a command prompt, change the directory to where your fastboot.exe is (example: cd c:\fastboot_directory). Type in 'fastboot oem lock'. Your phone will restart, then boot up. Turn it off, reboot to the bootloader and make sure it says *RELOCKED* on the top. Then, go back to fastboot and in your cmd window, type in 'fastboot oem rebootRUU'. Your phone will reboot and show a black screen with a grey HTC logo. Copy the RUU (doesn't matter if it's named PH98IMG.zip or something else) into the same folder as fastboot.exe and type in 'fastboot flash zip ruu_zip_name.zip' (obviously replacing ruu_zip_name.zip with the zip's actual name). The terminal will start sending the zip and details will be displayed on your computer screen. Your phone will also have a progress bar. Once the terminal on your computer says it's finished, you can reboot your phone.
I am currently S-On, unlocked, running Newts One XXX with the Global OTA (4.03.605) Sense 4 Kernel. I would now like to get the 4.03.605.2 firmware installed. Would the procedure described above work for my situation or is there another method I can use.
My next leap is to go S-off but for now I would just like to get the firmware updated before reflashing Newts.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, you can use the above method fine. However, going S-Off is very easy. It seems like a daunting task, but if you read the directions thoroughly it is very easy. I used the .5 version of Juopunutbear and it worked without a hitch. You are already unlocked and rooted, so if you S-Off, you won't have to do it all over again. From there you can flash the RUU, flash a FLASHABLE version of AR 3.15, then reflash any rom that you want. You will only get the benefit from global with roms that are built aroung the .2 base, but you will get updated radios. I haven't honestly noticed much of a difference with the new radios though.

Flash stock recovery here's a link http://www.mediafire.com/?wb21d2gdurui2c6 then lock bootloader. (Fastboot OEM lock)
After locking bootloader(cuz your s-on) rename the ruu you downloaded from android police To PH98IMG put on your sd return sd phone boot into bootloader run update, if it stops and powers off mid update remove battery and start it again, It flashed the hboot first then you gotta go back In And finish the update.

Also to avoid any problems do a factory reset in hboot after update is installed. Being that we're s-on when we re-unlock it does it for us but I've heard some people are having problems after the ruu if they didn't FDR while on stock recovery.. just a heads up

Just to clarify: when you reboot using "adb reboot" or power + volume down, are you booting into the bootloader or hboot? I've read the guides but still a little confused there.
Also, what does the stock recovery do versus something like Amon Ra? Does the stock recovery allow for creating backups and what-not? Sorry to be a total noob here. I can bake cookies or something for you all for your help, hehe.

The bootloader is the hboot. You power on holding vol down to get there.
The stock recovery does not allow you to create backups, or do much at all I'm pretty sure. That is why we have custom ones.

Sorry that you never got an answer to this. Yes, you should flash both recovery (stock) and the RUU as PH98IMG zip files. Wait to start this process until you have a pc/sd card reader available. Trying this without those basic tools is going to make this a frustrating process for you.

I've also been stuck on leedroids GB rom for a long time..its overclocked processor to 1.5ghz dual core actually drains the battery too much . I wanted to try the Carbon JB custom rom but the site has been pulled down already..Any recommendation guys i would much appreciate, especially if it has sense UI. even an ICS recomendatio with working 3D camera will do for now. My GB rom is way past its date
Overclocking the already quite sufficient 1.2ghz dual core was a mistake by LeeDroid.

For running JB you need hboot version 1.49.xxxx.
Coming from hboot 1.53.0007 (GSM Device) you have to
1st Unlock (HTC Dev way)
2ns S-Off (Wire Trick)
3rd Downgrade hboot.
For the Unlock thing, if you're not already unlocked, look here.
When it comes to S-Off, look here. Read the instructions carefully.
A pretty good explanation about how to downgrade to hboot 1.49.xxxx is here.

Thanks for the quick response, Senior member, youve helped a lot of members here, hopefully you'll also help me too..my device is as such
S-ON,
UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER,
ITS A SHOOTER_U (GSM) ,
WITH HBOOT-1.49.0012.
I would very much like to switch the rom from my 2.3 GB Android, to the 4.2.2 liquid smooth 2.9 CM. although it doesnt have sense Ive also read on numerous threads that i do not have to be S-OFF as i can use the 4EXT recovery to perform smart flashing safely. Any thoughts on this??
I plan to do this,
1/ download liquid smooth
2/ fastboot boot "file.img"
3/ clear dalvik, cache, wipe factory reset,
4/ Flash rom via 4EXT.
5/Reboot.
its how ive always done the Rom flashing. Any problem with my method? do i have to like flash radio/new kernel/ etc??
Latest radio is recommended for most custom roms.
So check if you have the latest radio, otherwise you can get it from here (link from @johnnyslt thread).
To flash new radio you have to be s-off.
A good explanation is here.
Though I did it the other way on my 2 EVO since both had hboot 1.53.0007.
you will most definitely have to flash this new firmware if you want to run ics/jb/kk roms. you might not need to s-off cause you have an older hboot but i highly recommend you get s-off.
As for your method, make the following changes
1. If you do not have 4EXT, get it first
2. Turn on smartflash in 4EXT recovery options
3. Make a nandroid backup from recovery (in case something goes wrong)
4. wipe data/factory reset. wipe cache and dalvik-cache
5. Install rom via recovery and reboot (boot image should be flashed automatically due to smartflash. phone will reboot twice)
If this does not get the rom to boot then you WILL need to s-off. restore your nandroid to get phone back in working condition.
P.S. the command to flash boot.img is "fastboot flash boot boot.img"

Eminem, thank you for your feedback on my issue. Okay I have tried everything but the phone just wont get past the boot animation. I have NonSense ICS Rom, flashed boot image via fastboot (thanks for your correction on the command) , flashed Rom, done a superwipe, but all the PG86IMG.ZIP files just wont flash in bootloader. Its starts parsing the zip then just exits just as soon as it starts. I'm guessing this file contains the new radio that will updgrade mine from the GB one to be accept ICS/JB/KITKAT.
I have to the conclusion that the only hindering factor that is keeping my evo 3d from fully booting after flashing a new rom despite dong everything correctly must be the fact that i havent yet achieved S-OFF and hence cannot flash new bootloader, And the only way to do that is via juopunutbear method as the Revotionary tool only works with hboot 1.49.0007-1.49.0008 MIne being hboot 1.49.0012. Thus i ask, must i now download the Ubuntu o.s Ver 12.0 (or Later),just so i can S-Off coz the juopunut website forbids use of any other distros for the proccess.
By The way i have visited your thread and i must say i like it better. i can even spot a KITKAT rom in there. And once i dpo manage to achieve S-OFF i will definitely try it.

I have thrown in the towel and resorted to return to my Nandroid backup of LeeDroid Ver 5.4 GB. You cannot the believe the process to achieve S-OFF when not in stock rom as mine is a custom rom. It requires me to Return to stock rom, unroot the device, and also relock bootloader. Just so i can do all that again with the stock rom , then finally S-OFF using the Wire-Trick. Scoured the internet for days and not even one thread to S-OFF a HTC EVO 3D while on a GB custom Rom (Like my LeeDroid Rom) , with hboot 1.49.0012, all threads insists that i must chuck the Custom rom, get back on my stock rom and do the whole process again. Tiresome.
Looks like your phone is an asian-HK-CHT model
this RUU should work for you if you want to go to stock ICS. after that you'll need Ubuntu LiveCD to do the wiretrick.
I'm sorry but this is the only way for you to achieve s-off right now

This is the most helpfull post i have received so far. This is ICS (the RUU) an upgrade from my GB rom. So yes i will take it. I have never installed an RUU before, so is it basically just like an OTA upgrade update from GB?? I just download it like any other Rom and install/flash in Recovery and am done? jumping straight to ICS?? Already Downloading. Just tell me what to do with it in steps, remembering that my device is rooted , custom rom, hboot 1.49.0012
Question...
I understand installing an RUU will relock my bootlader and also unroot my device , right??
Essentially, what does an RUU update just the Android version, or even the radio? hboot? kernel?
ok waiiitt a sec
you have to run this exe file from your pc after connecting your phone in bootloader. but first you have to relock bootloader yourself. i'll link you a guide to help you with RUU
---------- Post added at 04:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:29 PM ----------
heres a guide that you can use for reference but it might be a little confusing cause its for cdma users. i'll just detail the steps myself. Yes this WILL upgrade your rom, hboot, recovery, kernel and radio. you will loose root but its simple enough to get back root.
1. boot into bootloader, connect phone to pc and run this command in cmd "fastboot oem lock"
2. Run the RUU exe file on your pc and follow all the steps. its a GUI so its pretty self explanatory. this should take around 15-20 mins max. DO NOT disconnect device when RUU is running
3. Phone should reboot into your brand new ICS rom. now you can proceed to unlock bootloader, flash recovery and root
If you get errors while running RUU it might mean that the RUU is incorrect. or you can see this post for any of the errors
All RUU's are located here
the right RUU for you depends on your area and whether its branded or unbranded

Hey Eminem, I just finished downloading the RUU you linked. my problem is that the RUU troubleshooting link you gave me ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33901562&postcount=117 ) says you must first the CID (fastboot getvar cid) as well as the main version of the software installed (fastboot getvar mainver)
In that regard my CID being HTC_622 AND Mainver being 1.22.708.6 am still not sure the right RUU to flash coz none on the RUU list have the same software mainversion. Nways, im going to try the This Asia RUU ( RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.28.707.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_264110_signed ) and will revert with results. Thanks for Everything. Hope It works..Fingers Crossed.
Done trying the RUU ..its didnt work. Error 131 Customer ID Error. is any accurate way of knowing the precise RUU file to flash, with all the info i have aabout my Evo 3D?? The OS has just dissapeared , wont boot up, must've deleted the previous rom, even 4EXT recovery is now gone, i guess with root as well, and now have a RELOCKED bootloader.. #SIGH
there isnt a definite method to determine which RUU will work for you.which country did you purchase the phone from? and its not branded is it? you can try the Europe RUU but i doubt it would work. if it does not then download the gingerbread RUU then update to ICS via OTA

[Q] Unlocked S-ON Hboot1.58 Philz Touch Recovery

Please help. I have unlocked this phone through HTC Dev. I have flashed a custom recovery. Somewhere through this process, the original installation of the factory rom from VM was deleted. That doesn't bother me because I was never going back to it anyway, but If I had it right now, I wouldn't be here. I have tried to use the RUU exe in fastboot and the RUU zip in recovery from here. Neither will install, exe throws errors and the zip returns [bad]. I have also tried the [ROM] NegaLite-BluRom-JCFunk | 2.95 | Sprint/VM | Sense/Apex/Nova | 03/25/2014. This eventually installed, but will not boot even with installing boot.img separately. I followed all directions to the best of my ability, but by no means am I saying I did correctly, but I am pretty sure I did. So to recap - I have whats in the title, but no rom whatsoever installed that can be accessed. Any takers?
Some more info please, hboot version? Which recovery. s-on makes things harder.
To flash stock need to be relocked, stock will not flash from recovery.
If you put rom.zip, stock zip, in root of sdcard and rename to PG86IMG.zip. hboot will flash automaticly.
Or if you have a copy of the custom recovery img file on your computer, you can do a fastboot command that will let you boot from it and give it full write access.
fastboot boot recovery.img, then you can retry to flash negalite
img must be in directory you use fastboot in.
Philz recovery not working well for 3d, I use 4ext or my unofficial twrp.
Before I proceed in explaining anything, please let me Thank You JCFunk for lending me a hand in my endeavors. This is my first crack at a HTC device. So I'm a newb at locks, hboots, and HTC specifics. So, Thank You!
I scanned through a lot of information and I moved to quickly, thinking I would ace this project and not particularly following a guide step by step. I know I should just wire trick this phone. I am wanting to get to hboot 1.40 and use Revolutionary to S-OFF. Once that is achieved load a kitkat rom. This is just a project, not used for daily phone use - no service.

I tried this step first and it returned:
Main Version is older.
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
Would I be correct to say if I flashed the SetMainVersionLOW.zip that this method would likely work?
Also, if I am overcomplicating this(other than wire-trick) and there is an easier method, please advise.

How good are you with linux, or do just use windows? Never did wire trick myself, I've always done Unknownforce hboot downgrade. Which I can now do in about 15 min.
s-off not required, there's many way to bypass unlocked limitations.
Your main var is to high because htc never released a current ruu, so the ota pushed version higher but no ruu to match.
what can I help you do?

Does your unofficial twrp support SELinux? I am assuming it does but just checking. Is it available for download and if so where?

I am great with linux, but was under the assumption it needed to be burned to cd and that USB was not an option, please advise if not the case. I have read a ton and I remember reading about Unknownforce, but cant remember if thats the case or not.
Off topic: I learned from you that it has to be locked to go stock, but does it need to be unlocked to flash your rom or locked as well?
Unlocked for custom, locked for stock.
Here is unknownforce ultimate tool,
there was a live cd version made for windows users scared of linux.
I use tiny core linux for this, Ubuntu tries to mount all the partitions and you only have a 5 second window when they are writeable. I have used Ubuntu, at first, but preferred tinycore.
But first you are going to need to get stock.zip to install.

I would do fastboot boot recovery.img
Then install negalite, so atless you can boot the phone

here is 4ext recovery I would use this one first until you get used to things, best recovery for 3d.

Is 4ext > TWRP unofficial? I am currently on your unofficial TWRP and installing the latest negalite.

What I meant was, in your opinion, is the 4ext a better recovery than the unofficial TWRP?
During the install of Negalite at the point of -Setting Up Kernel Over-Clock Settings
under this it reads: assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/newboot.img","boot")
Is this a red flag of something not going right in any way?
After this I click Next>Recovery>Wipe Dalvik>Reboot and it boots into Fastboot. Whats happening at this point?
Since I am basically starting from scratch and the end goal is to have a kitkat rom and possibly S-OFF(if its a must to do so).
What all needs to be done as far as formatting, tweaks, or anything else to achieve the best performance, space, or anything you can think of?
Thats if you dont mind sharing. I appreciate your time and if I can be of service to you in any way, I will.
I am currently on the 4ext recovery with 1GB sd-ext 0 swap and formatted Ext4.
fastboot boot recovery.img
flashrom.zip from recovery
reboot, wipe dalvik, reboot
Negalite.zip installed with no errors whatsoever.
Thank You.
Beautiful smooth running rom btw.
Does all that above sound like I did the right things as for setting up and installing?
4ext is most stable, the unofficial has new features like f2fs and selinux, but 95% stable.
fastboot boot recovery.img is an old work around, also used to flash boot.img with fastboot. That is ok with roms that include a whole boot.img but roms like mine use a dynamic boot.img. Basically the installer makes the boot.img using your choices.
From what I know about Kitty kat I think you need to downgrade hboot or be s-off. Not sure I've stayed on ics for stability because I still use this phone. Also there is a new version of negalite on svn, just takes hours for me to upload a zip version.

I should have worded that different really, the revision numbers threw me, I honestly was just making sure I was in the right place. 48mb smaller, anything stripped?

I tried installing your new negalite the same way as I do the old version and at the end of the install procedure I get an error about set permissions. After that - reboot, wipe dalvik, reboot - it just reboots into recovery. I tried many times with SmartFlash enabled and disabled. I go back and install r121 with no problems.
