[Q] Heating up and restarting - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
this x10i is getting hot every-time i run the browser or a game and then restarts...
The other day it restarted around 10 times, and the battery died just because of the frequent rebooting....
I read all around the forums, and there is no concrete conclusion whatsoever......
Have any of you experienced it and managed to solve the problem??
Please let me know...

Post what rom kernel and bootloader you r running to help you

Try zKernel for stock 2.3.3,much more stable and it doesnt reboot anymore.
Sent from my xperia "z10i"

It is currently running stock gingerbread....2.3.3
It happened again!!
While typing a message.....it restarts when it gets really hot....and it does get hot when the surrounding temperature is hot as well...!!
I installed battstatt to monitor the temperature, and it restarts while at 47-46 degrees.
Will installing zkernel help??

Maybe,u must try it to find out. But ur phone is too hot, hotter than normal one. My runs on 33-40 C degrees on zKernel.

It restarts when i am using the browser on net pack
It restarts when i am running some heavy application
It restarts when i am charging and the battery gets heated up
How sad and frustrating
Reading around, i realized that almost all the x10i users are fed up of the phone heating up and rebooting
Will zkernel solve the problem???? I give a damn about the looks and all....the thing just has to stop rebooting thats all..

Maybe it'll help:
1) Factory reset
If doesn't help:
2) If you use an oc kernel, flash stock kernel
If doesn't help:
3) Take backup of everything & flash new rom

Yes that what i was asking if u have overclocked ur kernel then u need to bring it down or, better yet try fs/non-oc kernel
Sent from my X10i using XDA

I would try a different battery.The x10i shouldn't get hot,but the Arc does.

X10 shuts down when battery level is under 20%

hey,
I've a problem: When the battery of my X10 is under 20%, the phone shuts down automatically. When I start the phone again, it works till the next shut down. (this can take 5 minutes or 2 hours. Its different)
When I use the phone without turning it in standby, I can use it till the battery complete empty.
Is anything defect, or is it normal?
rom: WB V6 on stock kernel, but with stock rom, it was the same.
sorry for my language, I'm from germany
greeting, Tobi
Have u used battery monitor widget to get that it always shutting down at 20% , mine does it at 40% . Mines fine if im using it but if its in standby . . . Shutdown ... I then switch it on and says I got 20-35 battery and phone charges very fast back up to 100 . I think my battery is buggered which is what I think is wrong with yours. I could recommending a temp fix of freezing it battery overnight then charging for like 8 hours . Sometimes helps ..

Hi mate
I don't know what you mean by accu(I understand you meant battery level?) It sounds like one of the old kernels they were making, are you sure you are on stock kernel?
You could try flashing another rom on a ftf file with flashtool.. but try to charge phone when its off.let me know.

yes I mean battery level. I've only flashed wb roms. Bevore, I only used stock se rom, so I must have the stock kernel. In settings is written: 2.6.29-00054-g5f01537 SEMCU .........
Do you mean only charge when phone is off could be the solution? I will try it...

yes I used a widget, so I saw the battery level. 20% was an example, I remember I had the problem between 20% and 30%, too! But the most time its when battery is under 20%
What do you mean with temp fix of freezing it?
I think I had the problem since I've the phone. So you think my battery is defect?
So you also had this Problem with the SE rom? If not, try to wipe the battery stats with xrecovery before flashing a new rom
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I definitely heard this issue on old roms so make sure you flash the latest patches updates for that rom and follow well the installation procedure(factory reset, wiping cache, dalvik, bat stats)
If after charging the phone (offline) it does not charge, try to flash a ftf firmware with flashtool.
I have this too on all Roms but it starts at 35 and keeps doing it until 0, bad calibrated battery i think. Had this on 2.1 once and it was gone without me doing anything, weird Battery.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
can we use a working/optimized batterystats.bin to fix this problem?
as the topic says.
Yes I had the problem with stock SE rom too.
I already tried battery stats with xrec, but same problem.
I've also the newest updates for my rom ( wolf v6). Do you think I should try it with another kernel? Now I have stock.
Or I flash my rom & kernel again..
and can someone say me how to calibrate my battery correctly?
thanks
Same thing here with stock kernel...now i'm th kernel and team rom and it's ok

I still have the problem..
I remember I flashed zuzu's kernel for root. Is this the problem?
What do you think is the best kernel for me atm? I dont need any overclocking options.
Hope it will go with other kernel..

try using TH kernel its smooth and has excellent battery life !!
https://market.android.com/details?...xLDEsImNvbS5uZW1hLmJhdHRlcnljYWxpYnJhdGlvbiJd try out this app i use it though xD.
problem solved!
I first tried to flash doomkernel + wolf6... still had the problem.
Then I flashed TH Kernel + Rom and let my phone go off, because of empty battery.
Since I did this, I dont have the problem!
thanks for help!
btw: The problem was not solved with the new rom..
1 week ago, I bought a new battery and now my phone doesn't shut down all the time
-> my battery is defect
I am currently in discussion with 3 UK and they have informed me that the fault is because of a faulty glue joint, which they claim is my fault for dropping the handset. I am wondered how many people are actually having this issue, and what network you are on?

Mine is 28 C and I'm using phone for more than 2 hours, internet browser. If you tried differents rom and kernel and still nothing, I suggest you to clear up you phone. Reboot in recovery, mount and storage and format system, data, cache, factory reset, boot in download mode, flash stock ics rom, then root with cf root kernel. Then install again rom which you're using at the moment.
I9100 has the highest heat emission (my brothers 35 degrees)
I9100T is better (mines 28 degrees)
I9100G has the best i hear but i cant confirm that
The best you can do is find a good modem, as i noticed ever since i switched from LPQ to LP6 i've heated up a lot less
i also use siyah so i think that doesn't cause huge amounts of heating, as mentioned before always close apps
Hope this helped and good luck

But what does the modem have to do with hesting up ?
As i know hesting up does not have to do with modem only kernel ?

Oh no your not wrong, both kernel, and modem have to do with heating up, but the Siyah kernel hasnt had any complaints with heating, so that's what makes me think your modem is the problem
I dunno which modem will be best for your device sry
you will have to figure out, use instructions here
My SGS2 is going back for repairs due to overheating. It started by draining a full battery in an hour. Battery temp was 64C and now it heats up just by inserting the battery and not even turning on the phone. Not possible to charge it either. Tried flashing stock rom, factory resets but no go so my belief is that this is a hardware issue and not a software problem. Needless to say it has never been close to water or any other fluids. I got the phone about two months ago so hopefully this will be, and should be IMO, covered by warranty.
Will be interesting to see what the repair center says...

Hi,
My Wife's GS2 had a problem overheating recently too - it was stock ROM, not even rooted, so it wasn't overclocked. I pulled it apart, racking my brains trying to find the problem. I tried updating the the latest official ROM, updating the Modem, but nothing...
It turned out that her Internal SD Card was full, which must have been causing IO issues, and the the CPU to overwork or something, because as soon as I transferred all the photos etc. from the card, and cleared caches, it resumed running at a reasonable temperature.
Sometimes the answer is simpler than the one we're looking for - or it certainly was in my case.
Hope that helps.
Hi...mine was heating up like hell too, and its 3 days old...
for me it was the facebook mobile application on samsung galaxy sII i9100 (ICS). Installed KH3 modem , no change .. but task manager showed 30-66 cpu usage...the top 10% surface of the face of the phone and the back of the phone near the camera was searing hot, somewhere up to 50-55 degrees Celsius, making a phonecall in those conditions was very uncomfortable, and i was afraid of hardware damage if that went on. So, If i shut it down and used facebook from browser, it cooled off back to 30-35 degrees in a matter of minutes. only mobile data was turned on, gps, bluetooth, wifi was always off.
So im guessing for these kinda heat-ups (top of the phone and upper back) it is app which drains the CPU...
Note : i had no problems with battery life, meaning it resisted 12h moderate/heavy usage even with facebook mobile app...but i always try to exit all apps when im not using the phone ( bad(?) symbian habit)
you should change the modem :good:

{Q} - Galaxy SII overheat issue

Dear Family,
i have a problem with my galaxy SII since i got the phone tell now
i've got this handheld 6 month back and its now rooted having ICS AOKP RR 2.2 with CM kernel remix
and the device is getting overheated in the part of the camera , the overheat is happening when ever am browsing the net on WIFI or even 3G
i searched the internet regarding the same and i got that the issue is in the base-band so i flashed KH3 and nothing was changed
i flashed my device with amout 300 ROM (official/unofficial) and nothing change in this issue
also i found that my device sometimes is stucked on 1200 MHz for about 5 MINS without a valid reason in the foreground
appreciate your cooperation
Regards,
Moe
Mine heats up too, if you think about how much stuff is crammed into such a thin, light phone it's no wonder it gets hot
Don't worry about it

You have to worry when battery temp reaches more then 50 degree C, turn of phone for 2 mins then
Their are apps on market to measure it

300 ROM??? Hmmm... Anyway I m also having(probably Had ) the heating issue... First Kernel-Siyah 3.2.x was heating while talking in call also.. Used to heat up like anything. Now on Fluxi heat reduced but not completely.. Today I called my frend to McD to check his SGS2 phone.. His phone is purely stock and was runnning ICS official 4.0.3.. For normal use the phone dint heat, neither mine.. Now the heat game started when I watched a Video(Not HD) even in mine also But gud thing was mine was not as heated as his may be because of Kernel or anything I dunno.. The main thing s battery shouldn get heated too much... But I dunno many ppl not having heating issue... S2 s so thin that heat has too dissipate thru somewhere so it uses the camera region... Try using the phone with low brightness it might be helpful also try KI4(correct me if i m wrong!!) modem. I din try that modem yet...

Try pulling the battery for 5 minutes to let it cool, then replace it. You can also try under clocking to 800 /1000 mhz to save some battery and not let it go to 1200mhz

* i'm a big fan of Siyah Kernel and i tried most of its versions giving me the same result.
* i tried to make the device lock itself on the max usage with 800 MHz
* the battery's Temp is about 35 C
* i remember that 2.3.5 was the only version that i have which is not having this issue.
* it seems that everyone tried something and it worked for him but everybody's something is not working with me.
* the overheat issue is in arc and arc s too
* the other issue that am living in Egypt and Temp pretty high.

This phone is stupid sometimes. Just sat in my pocket for the last hour doing nothing.wifi off
The battery drops from 89% to 65%
I take the phone out and its super hot
Says 49 degrees which isnt dangerous but it is very noticable in the pocket and to hold. and the chart says the phone was awake through that whole time without the screen on.
As soon as I start using the phone again it starts to cool down.
Bit annoying how often this happens.
i never had this issue on gingerbread
is there a fix for it?

This a problem with ICS Stock.. The phone doesn't go into deep sleep even with the screen off. Can you post a SS of the Battery history details?

Well, if your phone's on now then take a SS of that.. That will let you know whether its a problem related to ICS or whether its a battery problem..
Check if when the screen is off, the phone's still awake or not..

I think you haven't understood what I'm saying
Keep your phone locked for sometime, maybe half an hour, don't use your phone.. Then check the Battery history details and see if the phone's awake even when the screen's off.
Problem with all ICS ROMs.
Restart after charging via wall charger, then it doesn't happen.

Is that problem related to the kernel?? Any idea?
And I didn't get it how restarting after charging will help..

No, it is not the kernel. It is a bug in the ROM, that hasn't been found or fixed yet. Restarting resets certain phone data.

It has happened always since ICS update for me, with all ICS ROMs I have used, with all ICS kernels I have used.
Restarting does the deal. I restart my phone every morning anyway, to clean up the memory/CPU, so phone will be faster.
It dosent happen with stock extended kernel..earlier it happened to me when I switched to krsh kernel aftet that I flashed extended kernel and and install custom rom like rs lite. With wipe data and format and this bug dissapeared..then it never came back
Hope it helps

In my experience so far concerning battery life, the kernel plays a huge role.
Stock kernel is a big drainer. Rage kernel is very good with battery life, as is KRsH kernel.
Flash a custom kernel, and set CPU governor to smartassv2, svagedzen or brazilianwax. Those 3 are in my experience the best.

Thought so.. that it was related to the Kernel.. I'm on extended stock kernel now and the battery life isn't as bad as stock ICS. Although I really haven't kept track of the exact battery life on this kernel, but it's certainly better than Stock ICS.

I've had similar problems when my usb port got burnt, and battery indicator constantly kept showing 'charging' icon, even thought cable was unplugged. Apparently some process/service (related to USB connectivity) prevented OS to go to sleep, and that kept draining the battery... Thanks to warranty, phone got fixed, and since i havent experienced any battery drain. Last time i checked, i got up to 3 days without recharging the battery

hmm, what rom are you using? actually when i was on FXP 128, when i was charging my battery, it's just too hot, it's extremely hot! but then once i switched back to my ported miui, i never encounter such problem, to my opinion, it might be due to the kernel. :s not sure, though

thus i think the problem was your battery not ray, when the lion battery running out more then its lowest limitation, usually it would be badly hurt,
then your can change another battery to try.

is your data connection ON ?
Xperia Ray's data connection overheats the phone & drains the battery fast... even with the screen OFF & locked

My data connection is always on, and I have no issues.
On-topic: you'll have to be more specific. Battery draining can be caused by a number of different problems, and unless someone here has encountered the exact same problem, we can only guess at this point.

my data connection (in areas that have 3G) is fine
but when i'm in a 2G area (it shows H instead of 3G beside the network meter) the phone gets TOO HOT

Actually, the H represents HSDPA, which is faster than 3G (UMTS), it's 3.5G if you will. It's not 2G at all. Also, I have the H pretty much always, and I don't have any overheating problems. So I think your problem is either ROM or kernel related. For your interest, at the moment I'm on JJ's hybrid 3.2 and sirkay's XRay 7.3.431. With this setup, I don't have any overheating problems at all. (Thank you sirkay and jj doctor! :laugh

Try charging it via USB, it probably won't get as hot. Then change the kernel and/or ROM - something there isn't suiting your phone!
Overheating is a combination about rom+kernel+ baseband.
Make a clean install of your rom+ kernel and then flash the correct baseband. After i change mine my phone get cold than before.
BTW, wich rom ,kernel and baseband are you using? Maybe with that info we can help you better.
^^
I m using stock kernel and fresh gb,but still same.now I just ub my ray and gonna try custom rom and kernel
Guys wrong section, this shouldnt be in dev, this is for Q&A forum, next time pls post in Q&A....
Thread reported and asked to be moved.... thanks
