[Q] HTC Amaze not booting - HTC Amaze 4G

After shutting down and turning on my phone again this morning, it will not boot up and instead freezes on the white splash screen with the green HTC logo. I have tried waiting it out, clearing the caches, flashing the kernel, and just tried a hard reset, all to no avail.
Also, if I plug my phone into the charger, the orange light comes on. However, it remains on when I unplug it from the wall and the only way to get the light off is to take out the battery.
I was using a custom ROM, the Amazing QuikSense 2.1.2, for the past 4 months without any problems. I haven't installed any new applications in awhile. I don't know what caused this. What can I do to get my phone working again?

Can you get into recovery? Try taking battery out, put back in, hold volume down and power at same time and see if you can get into recovery. If so, reflash the rom.

yes, i can get into recovery and to ClockworkMod

i have already tried flashing the ROM again but it is still freezing when booting

How are you flashing the kernel? Fastboot or ADB? ADB may not work on a soft brick... Maybe try fastboot?
OR
Did your battery die and that's what triggered this? If your battery is dead and you are on a CWM that doesn't have charging while off, you could be screwed until u get a fresh battery. Does the phone turn off after hanging on splash screen?

i tried flashing the kernel using this utility, in ClockworkMod:

Theres ur problem, u need to use ekf
Idk if there is still a thread with ekf, but u can just download fauxs kernel from his thread, extract the zip on your computer, put your fone in fastboot and connect the phone to the computer via usb. Open the folder u extracted the zip to and open the file that says flash.bat and it will do the rest

i have EKF but i am using a Mac now and can't get into my PC. i used the utility because i was unable to figure out how to flash it in terminal

i have tried flashing the kernel through ADB and flashing the ROM and it is still freezing on the HTC startup screen.. i don't know what to do next.. please help

it says:
fastboot flash boot Kernel-Here/boot.img
sending 'boot' <2876 KB>... FAILED <status malformed <1 bytes>>
the boot.img file is fine - why is it failing?

im also having this problem, my phone keeps freezing at the startup screen when the htc logo pops up. i dont know much about this kind of stuff so i would really appreciated if anyone could guide me to what to do
the way that my phone froze like that was that i tried to flash a kernel for the Energy rom, i did installed the rom itself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759 this is the rom that i wanted to use
and i flashed the kernel that was provided in the 4th post, i downloaded that file, extracted and ran the .bat file and thats how it happened
i would appreciate if anyone could help me with this

You wiped all of your data and system, so it's basically means that you have nothing on your phone, no OS, nada, that's why the phone would not boot up.
I suggest you to read more before doing anything to your phone next time :fingers-crossed:
At least you still have recovery on your phone. I'm not sure if TWRP would allow your phone to be charge while off, if it's not, then you better stop doing any further and try to look around to see if you have a wall-charger to charge your battery. Make sure it's full before proceed any further.
These next steps would be
1. Read this thread
2, Flashing 4EXT recovery would be your best bet since it allow your phone to be charged while off - this will be a life saver.
3. Flash an RUU to get back to stock. Note: You will need to re-lock your bootloader in order to do this
Good luck

thank you very much , but what should i do first i am afraid to do... please suggest me first step and be easy on me !!

You still be able to boot into your recovery, right? I don't use TWRP so I'm not sure but you will need to know how much juice you still have before going further. In 4EXT recovery, it tell you that information inside recovery though ...
Next, I would flash 4EXT recovery to make sure you can charge your phone while it's off ... using Hansoon's toolkit. Don't try to flash kernel again for you don't needed it as yet
The rest is very much already told. You will try to go back to stock by reading the link that I've provided.
PS: DON'T be affraid. DONT Panic. Just read through the Amaze Bible to gain more knowledge and confident. You'll be okay. Just take your time to read. It's not that hard as you though while in panic mode

Writesecurityflag??? Its been a while for me but that doesnt sound right. If s=off u want... u need the wire trick... After step 4 (which is accurate btw) u need to put the recovery.img of your choice (4ext highly recommended) in the same folder as your fastboot.exe program on pc. I recommend renaming it "recovery.img" and then you type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to flash ur custom recovery of choice. From there, reboot into recovery and flash superuser.zip. then u r rooted stock

[SOLVED - see 2nd page] Recovery problems - unable to boot into TWRP, CWM fails

Hello there,
I've had my OneX+ for a few months already and I've been using TWRP for quite a while. A few weeks ago, though, I flashed ViperX ROM and their TWRP-mod recovery. The recovery worked for a while but then the phone decided to simply not boot into recovery at all and instead rebooting into the ROM again. I tried reflashing the recovery and using CWM instead of TWRP. CWM seems to work but when I try to do a backup it just reboots back into ROM after it seems like it almost finished the backup, if I try to Factory reset/wipe anything the phone again simply just reboots to ROM ...
I really have no idea what to do now, plzhalp.

Hi Seleren...
Can you specify which phone version you have? AT&T/TELUS or International?
That would really help us to guide you to the good solution. Don't worry you can not brick your device with patience you'll be back on track.
i had an issue like this a while back. open up an abd and run fastboot erase cache, fastboot flash recovery (yourrecoveryname).img, then fastboot erase cache again. mine wouldnt boot into twrp after flashing a rom, it would show the teamwin screen then boot into the rom and these steps fixed it.

Tried that already, nothing changed at all, TWRP logo shows up and then the phone reboots to ROM. CWM works partially as I said, it reboots when I tell it do do anything (backup/wipe/flash) and the phone is unaffected.
Bump. Help please, I tried flashing another kernel but that didn't help. I can't even wipe or flash another ROM in CWM.

Try redownloading the recovery and rewriting it. It may be a bad download.

Re: [Q] Recovery problems - unable to boot into TWRP, CWM fails
Flash the kernel and then the recovery with fastboot and see what happens.
Download a fresh recovery for your International (ENRC2B) model here.
Put this file in the platform-tools of your SDK folder.
Plug the USB cable coming from your computer to your phone.
Then open a command prompt window and type : adb devices (you should see your serial at the screen)
Again type : adb reboot-bootloader (Enter)
Type again this command : fastboot devices (you should see your serial at the screen)
Type this command (if serial is successful) : fastboot flash recovery your_recovery_name.img (Enter)
Clear cache with : fastboot erase cache (Enter)
Once done unplug your USB cable, click one time on Power button.
One Volume rocker down to select Recovery.
Confirm by clicking on Power button to reboot in Recovery.
Try to flash an International ROM only.
What result you obtain by doing this?
@Seleren I would be interested to know if the above worked for you? Also useful if anyone else gets this problem

I've already tried that numerous times, I can get to erasing cache etc but once I try to boot into the recovery ... I'm done. TWRP won't boot even after erasing cache. CWM fails at wiping/backuping/flashing and just reboots without any notice at all. I'm really out of ideas now.
Sorry for a bit late answer.
This is really strange. Are you sure you are correctly rooted? Which method have you followed to root your phone? The above method I gave you, I have done this numerous times, switching from CWM recovery to TWRP recovery to access different backup on my phone, and it never fails on me.
Are you sure that your SDK folder is well installed and fully functional? Are HTC's drivers correctly configured? What is your phone responding to you when you type : adb devices?

Yes, I am correctly rooted, I've rooted numerous phones, I unlocked using the official HTC method. I could say I'm not a complete noob to Android. I wouldn't even post here if I didn't try all the standard procedures.
I flashed the Non-touch CWM yesterday and nothing changed (not that I expected it to). I decided I'll try flashing the bootloader in the end but I have to back up my whole SDCard before that ...
Bump.

Well, since I don't want to be like others who just say "Solved", here's the solution I came up with.
1. Get your new ROM's zip to your SDCard
2. Flash CWM since TWRP won't boot
3. Flash ROM from CWM, it will be flashed even though the phone will unexpectedly reboot.
4. Flash the bootImage from fastboot (Thank god at least that works)
5. Go back to recovery, go to Mounts menu and wipe every options you can (cache, data, system)
6. You will most probably lose your SDCard data too.
7. Reflash the ROM you wanted.
8. Voila.
PS: Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage to your device that may occur while using this procedure.
Here something strange I've been encountering... Every time I flash a boot.img over TWRP it won't boot to TWRP. I have to flash the recovery over the boot.img.

I wish that was the problem, I tried quite a few versions, including the one from ALL IN ONE toolkit, an older version that previously worked, the latest version and the ViperX version. Trust me, that was not the problem.

What Lloir meant to say was that the boot.img has nothing to do with the recovery, so flashing a boot.img will NOT change your recovery to so-said TWRP.
TWRP is being flashed by a different command namely 'flash recovery' instead of 'flash boot' like previously mentioned boot.img

[Q] Installing TWRP over CWM

Hello,
I 'm new to the android community and i'm so glad to be among you. So i rooted my HTC Desire X (with ICS) a couple of days ago using CWM recovery and now I want to install this DEODEXED stock ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40682127
(Note: I have CID:T-MOB101 and HBOOT 1.24.0000).
While rooting the phone i installed CWM recovery while the guide on the link demands to install TWRP. How can i install TWRP over CWM? Because while doing the steps of the guide i got stuck in the 3rd step(Command Prompt says:sending "recovery" but the process never finishes)...
Forgive me if i have forgotten any info of my phone, just let me know!
Thanks in advance,
Tassos
Download this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943822
Its much easier.
Important! make a nandroid backup first before flash anything,
ειναι σημαντικο να εχεις ενα!!
Tried with the way above, didn't worked...
I tried this and it didnt worked, i also tried manually through terminal with no luck. As i said above the process gets stuck when the terminal says "sending recovery" and the bar on the screen of my phone doesn't fill. I 've been reading that there are some other users of HTC DX that have the same problem with me, that is they can't flash TWRP and finally they install CWM. Has this something to do with the details of my phone(CID, hboot, etc.)?
So can anyone help me on how to flash TWRP on my phone with CWM on it.?

replace its recovery.img with this RECOVERY
boot into bootloader
Connect to PC
run 'Install Recovery.img.bat'

if this does not work then try factory format
AND REMEMBER MAKE AN NAND :good: BEFORE DOING THIS

1. Start your PC
2. Go in folder containing fastboot.exe and related binaries.
3. Download the recovery.img for (ICS or JB) as required.
4. Type this command in cmd.exe
fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
5. Press power button so that phone goes from fasboot to hboot mode. Then press VOLDOWN and then POWER to boot into recovery.
Its a simple enough process, just try to be calm and do it one step at a time.

All the times I've tried to flash a recovery i 'm on the fastboot/bootloader screen, which says Fastboot USB. I tried with neXus PRIME's way too but it didn't work out. I think i'm not doing anything wrong and don't know why it doesn't work...
Check/change your cable and also change the usb port (use usb2.0 instead of usb3.0) or try on other PC
BTW.. you also can use CWM to flash ROM... the only reason to use TWRP is it has a reboot option in recovery where you can select reboot to bootloader. So using CWM, you must manually put your device to bootloader after installing ROM.
But I suggest, you stick with your current ROM. That JB ROM is only for people who want to test how the JB ROM is. Most of them revert back to ICS

@dottat is it possible to write a script for those for the n00bs that may be the faint of heart type? Like a flash-all deal? I'm good with manually flashing them all individually but for those that aren't that would be dope.. Can you even do that with the .img's for HTC devices?

When sending boot image after i use fastboot erase boot commend, it just stuck on sending 'boot' <16384 kb> and nothing happens. Any help suggestion?
...Send boot.img when flashing boot. Send system when sending system. Can't flash system into boot partition
The boot partition is only 16 megs so if you try to flash a 2 gig file into it you'll prolly hang.
Flashing the 2gig system.img to the system partition properly will likely take some time. You have screenshots?

That's exactly what i did following your instruction. Here's the steps i did (BTW: I will take screenshots as soon as i am home)
1) Went into TWRP and performed a wipe (Data, cache and system)
2) Connect MAX to PC (Win 7 64bit)
3) Go into Fastboot mode (tested using Fastboot devices and results came back with serial number)
4) Copied System and Boot img into the same folder as Fastboot/ADB
5) Issue commend: fastboot flash boot boot.img ---- Error: 1st it was stuck on sending, nothing happens for like 10 minutes, unplug then tried Run CMD with local admin, got a different error msg, this time it says FAILED (remote: not allowed)
6) Then I tried flash just system.img using fastboot flash system system.img --- got error: cannot load 'system.img': Not enough space
I then went back into TWRP, basically did a complete wipe of everything (lucky TWRP was intact), went back into Fastboot mode and did another erase.
1) Enter Fastboot mode and issued: Fastboot erase boot, recovery and system -- All went fine
2) Then tried flash individual recovery/boot/system into its partition, same error msg as above
I thought i am toast for sure, but upon rebooting, i still have TWRP and Thank God i had a Full Backup stored on my external SD card, I just did a restore and everyone is back to where i left off..
thanks for your quick response

BTW: Reason I need to flash the Stock Rom is because my One Max has this weird charging problem, where once the phone is turned on, it only charges to 35-37% and it stops, however if I leave it powered off and charge, it charges to 100% all the way. It must be a software issue and since I am using it on AT&T, Verizon CS and retail store doesn't even want to offer at help. So, i am kinda stuck with fixing the issue myself.

Are you unlocked? Because remote not allowed word indicates you are not. Can you confirm?
If your kernel is what got hosed you always flash my boot.IMG using the app flashify from the market from a booted rooted rom....assuming you are unlocked. Otherwise you will have create a flashable 0p3img.zip file and flash your kernels from hboot.

Yes, i am unlocked and S-OFF and rooted.
Tried another PC and using factory HTC cable, still the same error when flashing system.
Now, if the issue is with my OS, all i need to flash is just System.img and nothing else, right?

Flash boot.img from SDcard, everything went fine, just rebooted the phone, no issues. Now, how do i flash the System.IMG, which is the key to hopfully solve the battery charing issue? thanks
It should be via fastboot...but your fast boot install doesn't seem to like flashing anything to your phone. Do you have any other pcs you can try and can you see if your charging issue was fixed before proceeding ?

Wow, i am amazed, just flashing the boot.img and my phone starts chargin pass 37% now while the phone is powered on. Maybe i don't need to flash system.img after all. You rocks dude, thanks so much. Keep up the good work !!!
for what its worth, ive never been able to fastboot flash system system.img ive always gotten that space error.
ive just skimmed thru this, but the easiest way7 for you guys to flash this is to just open the radio zip and add the other images to it. then you can use those directions(oem rebootRUU,etc) and flash them all in one shot.
i could work with you guys to dump the relevant images that usually come in an ruu if you want to make up a full(unsigned) ruu.
I also had the charging issue.(wouldn't charge past 37%....Switched charger and the issue is no more.

[Technical Support] Can't boot into recovery mode

Hi there,
I'm pretty new to zip flashing, but after the installation I regretted and wanted it removed. Before that I had made an entire backup, which I then restored and since then my phone has not been able to boot.
I've tried to boot into recovery mode but without any luck. It's stuck on the OnePlus logo.
I can get it in Fastboot though but that's about it and the normal power on results in bootloop.
I've been reading many topics about this but in all cases it's crucial that you've enabled USB Debugging which is quite the task since I'm not able to boot it up.
Hope you guys can help me since I don't have any spare phone at the moment.
P.S. I'm on OP X with OxygenOS.
EDIT: Solved

Hi there, can u help me solve this problem..i have the same problem as yours..Now i dont know what to do..i have tried the mega unbrick but no luck at all still the same issues stuck at the boot logo and reboot itself..i need your help fast..contact me at [email protected] Email me there..please
Basically this is how it goes: You have to have an unlocked bootloader or else it will more than likely not boot into a tampered system. Unlocking the bootloader is simple on this phone and does not void the warranty, but to do so you have to have enabled "OEM unlock" in the developer settings which from the sounds of it you didn't. I'm going to cut and paste some of my response I've sent to other people here:
The first thing you're going to need to do is to flash the stock Recovery from OnePlus. Ypu will flash it the same way you flashed TWRP (if you did) with Fastboot. If you haven't done that and need me to explain it I will, I'll be here all day. Download the recovery here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/oxygenos.oneplus.net/OPX_recovery.img
Next, the recovery will normally only flash the stock ROM as provided by OnePlus. You can download that file from here: http://downloads.oneplus.net/2016-04-02/opx/OnePlus_X_OxygenOS_2.2.1/ . Flash that with the stock recovery and then do a Factory Data Reset. You will not lose pictures, music, whatever. You won't lose the backup you made either. We just need it to boot into OOS so you can turn on the unlock option.
Reboot the phone. It might take a while. Once you're into the device everything should be working as normal. Go to Settings -> About Phone. Scroll down and tap the "Build Number" until it says you've enabled Developer settings. Go to Settings -> Developer and turn on OEM Unlock. Now you can boot back into Fastboot, and from your computer use the command "fastboot oem unlock" as simple as that and it will unlock the bootloader. Now if you'd like you can safely reflash the TWRP recovery and you should be able to restore your backup.

Edit: Fixed!

Umx u673c root?

The phone has unlockable bootloader and I only have low mobile data and was wondering if there's a way to rip the stock recovery to port twrp over.
When I get wifi tomorrow, I'll try using PC king root while the phone is in fastboot mode.
Kingoroot will get to 100 but fail, kingroot pc version would just give me Chinese letters and do nothing.
Can anyone list anyother root exploits I might I can try on this phone? I tried the Android version of kingroot , but that just gives me the request device and I can't bypass it.
Root u673c
... has anyone been able to root the U673C version 6.0.1, if so, guide me through it, thanks!
we need to somehow extract the stock recovery.img to port twrp over.
Rooted boot image for u673c
I have finally rooted this phone. Here is the rooted boot.img uploaded to MediaFire.

Some instructions would be nice, Does not work I can get boot.img to install but it will only boot into stock recovery
In developer options click allow OEM unlocking then boot to fastboot mode and use fastboot to unlock bootloader and flash the rooted kernel.
Rename file to boot.img
Unlock bootloader: fastboot oem unlock
Flash kernel: fastboot flash boot boot.img

I would just disable the app... just in case there is an update for the phone in future... if you remove the app the update will fail but if its disabled you can just enable it take update and then disable it again... also disable the stock gallery and install a third party one from the playstore... the stock gallery app will through all sorts of ads at you full screen ads as well.
I used titainium backup to disable all apps I didn't want... bit you can use what ever app you want. You can disable most apps in the apps info but not all apps.
I just use the phone as a backup and don't know where it is right now but when I come accross it I'll post all the apps I disabled here.
I healthfully thank you

I'm sorry I can remember the button combo... From phone off press and hold vol down and power release power and keep holding vol down... I think fast boot mode is an all black screen or it just has umx logo, can't remember exactly... when you have a fast hooky cmd window open type fastboot devices to see if your phone is connected... if it is not try holding vol up instead of vol down when turning phone on... if vol up don't work try holding both vol buttons. Before this can be done make sure usb debugging is enabled in developer options and authorize your pc when prompted... alternately after you have adb authorized you could use adb cmd "adb reboot bootloader"
If you ned help with adb/fastboot do a quick google search you will find plenty of info and instructions
I appreciate your reply.
But I need some more assistance, please:
I've rooted many devices, flashed custom ROM's, Custom recoveries, etc, but I'm completely stuck now with this phone.
I tried "Power and Vol Down"....nothing.
I tried "Power and Vol Up"...and for a split second I see the Android robot on its back...but after that split second, I'm in the stock recovery menu.
One of the stock recovery menu choices is to reboot into Bootloader. When I try that, the phone reboots; but to the best of my knowledge, does not get into Bootloader mode.
I have installed ADB on my PC. When I type "ADB devices", I see my phone listed. But when I type "adb reboot bootloader", it reboots, but not into Bootloader.
I have USB debugging enabled, I have authorized my PC, and in Developer options, I have enabled the "Unlock Bootloader" option.
My Googling results have not yielded useful info.
I'm stuck.....
I hope that someone with experience with this particular device can please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you!

Hope That Helps.
I Got Magisk, Xposed & Even A Custom Bootscreen With Sound on Mine.
Okay. Got it all done, mostly thanks to Liberator Elite. And just so that no one else should ever be as stuck as I was, please allow me to clarify what actually worked:
I kept on attempting to put the phone into Fastboot mode or Bootloader mode. I could enter the stock recovery, choose to boot into Bootloader, but it wasn't working--or so I thought. All I would see upon reboot was a screen that was black, with the words "UMX" (Ultimate Mobile Xperience??? or whatever...)
However, Liberator Elite called to my attention that that screen WAS THE BOOTLOADER screen. I typed "Fastboot Devices" from the command prompt, and there was my phone! I then was able to flash over the boot.img file, and the TWRP posted here, and from TWRP, I was able to install Magisk.
For some of you, this is all simple--thanks for not laughing.
And to the entire community, thanks for being such a great resource! All done--thanks to you guys. Much appreciated!!!
