Hi Friends,
I am Shailesh Ashar and this is my 2nd app. ( 1st being Group SMS details of which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306682 ). OK guyz , this is a big one (atleast for me).
Whats the App:
CallFirewall basically rejects unwanted calls.
Features & Options:
a. Accecpt all calls - pretty self explainatory
b. Accept call from My Contacts only - accepts calls from contacts only, others are rejected
c. Reject all calls - pretty self explainatory
d. White List - accepts calls only from the white listed nos
e. Black List - accepts all call except from the black listed nos
f. Black List Pattern - any no STARTING from the black list pattern list is rejected.
for eg. if you enter "123", so all nos STARTING from "123" will be rejected
this is a very nice option with which you can block nos from any particular network, country, city , area or whatever you can think of.
Finally there is also an option to reply with an SMS.
IMPORTANT:
1. To Delete Blacklist/Whitelist Nos TAP & HOLD the stylus for a few seconds to get the options.
2. Autostart - Create a shortcut to Callfirewall.exe with 'startup' as parameter (without the '') and copy to windows/startup/
3. Please uninstall previous versions before installing ver 1.3
4. Also Delete Callfirewall.xml from the Root folder. Previous versions Callfirewall.xml will not work with ver 1.3.
5. The XML file for 1.3 and 1.4 are compatible.
KNOWN ISSUES :
1. One Ring Delay in Rejecting Calls.
2. Ongoing call -> Blocked Caller Calls -> Existing Call is Hung Up.
3. Problems with some Radio ROMS where the caller identdification is delayed by Windows by a couple of seconds.
PLEASE DO NOT MAIL ME COMPLAINING ABOUT THE KNOWN ISSUES.
Ver 1.4
----------
1. Selective Call Barring.
Now you can restrict selected outgoing calls.
2. Add outgoing calls as Appointments.
Ver 1.3
----------
1. Added SMS Black List
You can add numbers as well as names.
eg. you put 'abc' as name, then all smses starting , ending and containing 'abc' as contact name will be blocked. The same works for numbers as well so beware.
2. Added Silent Startup - Create a shortcut to Callfirewall.exe with 'startup' as parameter and copy to windows/startup/.
3. 'Add as Appointment' Timings can now be adjusted by minutes ( + or - ).
4. Appointment is now saved in format: "Call from : Mr.X NUMBER Accepted/Rejected", Category : Call Firewall, Reminder Alarm is not set.
Ver 1.2
----------
1. Added option to reject unknown / private / withheld nos
2. Option to Add Accepted calls as calendar appointment
3. Option to Add Rejected calls as calendar appointment
4. Toggle Option to show 'CallFirewall' in 'running programs' / Task Managers
5. Save User Settings so that it remains intact upon restart.
6. Completely revamped UI to accomodate new options.
Ver 1.1
----------
Also added an option when selected, will ask you whether to send an SMS when a call is rejected
SmartPhone Version 1.2
-------------------------------
I have ported the PPC version to SmartPhone as is. So essentially all the cons as well as issues with ppc have also been carried fwd.
I'll be working on all the issues and will also be incorporating some of the new features and suggestions listed by you all. So please keep the feedbacks coming. Also, I am doing this in my free time so pls be patient with the updates.
From now on Both PPC & SmartPhone versions will be updated hand in hand.

Hey that sounds cool.. (especially the "FREE" part ).
Anyways, a request/question.. Is it possible for you to embed an "Interactive" functionality to the "Reply with SMS" option, i.e., when u miss/dismiss/ignore a call, it should ask you whether u want to sen an sms or not. (Just like SPB Phonesuite)...

Actually, the reasoning behind this is that while one is busy, or otherwise, if one doesnt want to take a call from a few ppl but he/she would not want to send a notification sms to all of them. and smtimes to the same person u might not want to send an sms and smtimes u might.. Many ppl I know want this feature especially those for whom sms is quite expensive (e.g. for me an sms is even more expensive than calling up the person for 2 minutes)
I dont know how difficult it would be to implement this.
One possible way would be to check in the registry whenever u miss a call, it would trigger a function to pop up the yes/no kinda dialogue/notification to send an sms to last missed number. (From the way SPB phonesuite works, I think that this is how it implements this).

Both the apps are written using managed code so it will take a while to load.
I am not sure but if u install .net cf 2 on device instead of storage card then it should make some difference.

Hi all,
I'm sorry for probably a completely noob question, but it's been bugging me and I cannot find a solution.
Whenever I send an SMS I have a load of things to do afterwards and this is annoying.
First comes the confirmation of sending. I need to go to the notifications bar, go to the notification itself and close it. And then comes the delivery report. I need to go to the Inbox and read it. If I don't want my inbox to be filled with meaningless delivery report messages I need to manually delete it each time. Fortunately by this time the notification disappears from the bar so I don't need to delete it manually.
And all this of course with activating my phone's ring/vibration.
This is not how it's supposed to be done? So is(are) there a way(s) around it?
1. First of all the most annoying is that a delivery report is saved as a regular message. I've tried searching around with nothing found except that its a WM way of doing this and there's no way to change it. And then I found this dinosaur thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387307 which is sadly discontinued. Does anyone know if anything has been done on this topic? An app? Or perhaps a rom with such change?
2. Second thing - is there a way of disabling the notification in the bar of a message being sent?
It all should be just an icon beside a message showing the status - failed to send/successfully send/received with perhaps a easily deleted popup for the delivery report.

Found that previously, but haven't got that entry on my registry ...
Would the CAB posted above solve it regardless of the missing key?
Thanks,
Pozi.
Not sure why you don't have that key. You can use total commander to add it if the cab file I attached doesn't add it for you. If it doesn't add it, installing the cab doesn't change a thing, so you have nothing to lose.
Dear Expert!
Pls help me!
I have HD2 from Korea
I only can write 80byte messeage
Currently I am using this phone at overseas...
So 80byte messeage would be written means too short and even this would be as one messeage even if i text in overseas...it would be so waste money....
Pls help me to extend the byte for me to write as other smart phone over 80byte?
I am pretty sure there may be the way to modify in registry
I am looking forward to having your answer....
Thanks and B~ well~
Hi every one
I'm on galaxy s3 and hate the fact that it auto converts the SMS to mms when character exceeds 480.
And there is no option to disable this perk..
I don't want to use 3rd party apps like gosms and handcent for the simple fact that they don't support motion gestures like dialing the contact when phone is held to face.
I know there are various ROMs with this option...I am looking for a stand alone zip file that could be installed through recovery.
For the record I'm on XXALF2 ODEXED ...please help me find this app I'm sure there are a lot more people looking for this simple but necessary option..
Guess there is no much hack...although there are some cooked ROMs with this functionality..
Anyhow, mods u may close this thread
Muhammad I Alam
Hi Iris,
Sorry to hear about this. I know it probably doesn't help much now, but if you just want to send Long SMS messages (over 3 SMS) you can use BigSMS. It doesn't support any of the gestures and stuff, but that isn't really the point. Most people type their message in the stock app then copy it to BigSMS and send. Not a perfect fix, just a solution.
Thanks man
u wrote the app man..really doin the trick for occusional long sms

So, on my Streak 5 I have installed clean 407 ROM, which works great. And I need to mod Mms.apk so it do not convert SMS to MMS after certain number of characters.
I read many threads about modding, and I tried everything. But, to be short I did next:
-decompile .apk file
-found .xml file
-change values ( smsToMmsTextThreshold )
-build .apk file
-changed it in /system/app
-rebooted device
...and nothing happend.
First, I thought that value which I entered was to low ( 200 ), then I changed it into 999999, but...again...same result.
Everything works nice ( no errors ), but no effect from modded Mms.apk
So I need help: does anyone knows where I can seek for solution. What to do? What to change!?
Thank you!
Just to check in info: I clear data under Settings\Applications, and cleard Dalvik cache...same output: again converts message to MMS

It is possible that this conversion to MMS is outside of your control. It may be carried out by your mobile network when you are sending the message. In other words the mobile phone network counts the characters in your message and decides if there are too many to be deemed an SMS.
I am not certain of this, but it does correspond to my experience of different networks.
Having said that there is some information in the Olleh 407 thread regarding changes to the build.prop that might help you. But I don't think the outcome of those mods were conclusive.
Finally, results!
So, after an epic search, I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423340
(and after that one, another one on an arab site...don't know which )
Anyway, I needed to change /system/build.prop, next lines:
ro.build.CUSTOMER_CONFIG_KT=1
...
ro.build.CONFIG_CUSTOMER_KT=1
into
ro.build.CUSTOMER_CONFIG_KT=0
...
ro.build.CONFIG_CUSTOMER_KT=0
<they are separated lines in file, and appears three times in the same>
<firstly, I changed only ro.build.CUSTOMER_CONFIG_KT=1 into ro.build.CUSTOMER_CONFIG_KT=0 ,and noticed that converting sms to mms, has moved from ~102 chars to 3 messages>
and one more thing/line needs to be added up (don't know why, because I didn't noticed any changes):
ro.telephony.sms_segment_size=160
...
So, what are results?
Before any changes of build.prop, sms was converted to mms after circa 102 chars. Now, it's 3 sms and than mms. <== and that's happening even if I moddified Mms.apk! ...I'll continue to work. But any help will be appreciated :good:

You can install the mms app from CM7, it's modded, does not convert the sms to mms [at least on cm7 and DSC] i use it as i don't like anymore the 3rd party applications, i used to use Handcent SmS but now is too heavy and laggy...
Try this one, i extracted it for you
Hope this helps
Force close error. But thank you anyway!

lol... you guys... you dont need to mod mms.apk or anything.... in the settings for the messaging application... there is one called as SMS split... tick that option and the message would no longer auto convert to mms when it exceeds 160 character limit... it is so simple... wonder nobody realize that..?
erm...is it me, or such option does not exist in mine Mms.apk

I understand what are you saying, but obviously we have different versions of Messaging application. Your's is ripped from another ROM or something like that? This is clean one, from Olleh 407, and for sure there is no such option like split message.

I would very much like my phone to stop converting SMS to MMS once it hits the 3x160 chars limit. I'm quite sure the previous version of this ROM based on ISC 4.0.4 had this option in menus somewhere. The 4.1.2 version does not it seems.
I read somewhere that the conversion behavior would be removed in Android 4.1.2 in general, so it would always just send long SMS, so but so far that is not me experience.
I have tried flashing the MMS.apk that is usually referred to on this and other forums, but this only makes the app split my messages into separate 160 character messages instead of sending one long SMS. That is not a good fix - it's almost worse.
As this is a low level setting somewhere in the OS, I am not sure if it would work to just flash the ICS 4.0.4 version of the MMS.apk - I'm guessing it's identical to the 4.1.2 version (more or less, if it even works at all) and you still have to find a way to toggle a hidden setting somewhere else.
I don't have enough posts to post directly in the nAa release thread, so I'm hoping someone here can help me, or bring the request into the official thread - the request being to restore/add the menu option to stop the message application from converting SMS to MMS due to size.
This is for the X10 mini pro
ROM I'm using now, without the option: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837273
Previous ROM I used, with the option: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636501
