[Q] Default data toggle widget, disable "Allow data traffic?" message - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi,
I like the default data toggle widget and I use it a lot. But there is a problem - when I enable the network data, there appear a big message - "Allow data traffic? .....".
It annoys me, as I see it at least 5 times per day. Is there any way to disable it ? I am even ready to root the device for that
P.S. Yep, I know that there are other alternatives on the market but this is the last way I would count on.
Thank you in advance.

If I'm correct, the message isn't from the widget, but from the native android. It's there to warn user that enabling will cost you money.
I don't think you can disable that unless (not sure yet) you touch something in the system (of course, rooted for that).

well I wish we could! It's driving me insane, having to click the damn thing everytime. I KNOW it's going to cost me money to use teh data connection, I have an internet plan thank you very much.
That and the "Oh noez you switched data off!" notification on statusbar are annoying the hell out of me.

So, I rooted the device. Can anyone give me a hint how to remove this message ?

Where did you read it's possible if rooted?

I am not sure about this, I am just asking. May be someone knows.

Maybe just assuming that with root access one can alter a variety of things in the OS. But yes that message is hella annoying and really should be shown only the first time.
I don't see other phones do this and my old phone either so there must be a way...

If you are just looking at removing at msg saying the data is disabled, just pull the notification bar and click on the "Clear" button.

Try Widgetsoid. You can create your own widget that one give that dialog. And loads of other handy ones, like batt/cpu info, flashlight, screen-on lock etc.

Well, I realized that is more interesting to write my own data toggle widget. Mobile data and WiFi already works, with no warnings

Most annoying for me is the GPS warning one Never had it before on my Desire.
Even when using a Sony Smarttag to automate the turning on of the GPS you still get the warning dialogue. Annoying as hell.

Those warnings annoy me too! I wish I could get rid of them... And they do pose a problem if I want to automate tasks, what were Sony thinking of???

They should add an option "Don't remember again" when that message appears.
It's ok to advice you the first time you turn on Data, but is necesary to say the same thing five times a day?
If you add to your phone the notification toggles, the message will not appear if you turn on/off data from there. (With 2011 Xperia was so)

I can understand why someone would turn off data, but why turn off GPS? As long as you don't have an app open that actually uses GPS, it doesn't do anything.
I personally NEVER turn off GPS, Data, NFC, ... The only switcher I ever use is WiFi.

If your rooted you can freeze certain apps...I found you can disable the unsupported headphones notification by freezing the following app:
com.sonyericsson.unsupportedheadsetnotifier
Theres probably one on there that causes the notifications for 3G data toggle, but I've not found it so far yet.
And yes, I do agree that the notifications are a tad annoying!

I've added a small application widget to android market. It allows to switch on/off network data without any notifications. Please help me test it

Does it still ask even when youre using the NFC tags?
Cause they just updated the NFC app with adding on Data traffic and stuff. anyone tried? and i just ordered NFC tags on ebay. :S

Just tried it and you do not get a message for turning data on.
Enabling GPS still gives a message. This annoys the hell out of me because their advert for smart tags clearly shows this as a use case.
[shameless plug]
If you find you need more tags, or your want some cheap ones you can stick to things (including ones designed to be stuck to metal), just buy blank ones (about 60p each) and use my new app for turning them into Xperia SmartTags

So, anyone ?
I've added few new features to my app. It's free and add free.
Please leave some feedback.

I have the same problem
Anyone realized how to solve this? I need this message not to show because i'm using cerberus app and if my phone it's stolen and i need to remote control it i don't want the thief to be asked if he agree the message

Disable GPS warning "Data transmission charges may apply"

I have installed Lookout mobile security which has a phone location option. Via their website you click 'Locate' which will activate GPS on your phone (data connection required). Unfortunately the warning "Data transmission charges may apply" pops up on the phone's screen preventing my phone from being found until I click 'Agree'.
Is there a way to disable this warning and just allow GPS to be enabled?
I have the same isue, any workarround?
Sent from my E10i using Tapatalk
I have tried everything I can think of, with no results. Short of re-flashing with a different ROM, which seems extreme.
I've also heard inconsistent reports. Not everyone seems to have this problem. I'm using an X10 on Rogers Wireless.
I also have this issue, using tasker to send gps info when receiving sms.
It used to work without the warning on android 1,6 for me.

Same for me. This started after upgrading to 2.1
**EDIT**
I flashed the phone to X10a_1.0_2_1_A_0_435, and back to stock, and nothing has changed. Looks like my cause is pretty much dead.
did anyone come up with a workaround for this? i have SMS GPS installed to turn gps on and "Gps my droid" installed to tell me my phone location once its on. if i lose my phone and GPS cant be enabled without pushing the button, what good is it? also, if someone steals the phone its not likely that they're going to agree to turn it on once they realize theres been text messages sent to turn it on. help!
theres gotta be a discrete way of turning off the notification so i can track someone down if they steal it!

[Q] Which (sync?) app is eating GPRS? And how do I stop it?

Hi hope someone can help.
I've bought an Xperian X10 mini for my daughter. She loves it. All her friends love it. The iPhone owners want one! (Big) but.....
She is not a heavy user, and so put her on a PAYG contract. However it is running out of credit very quickly, and when I checked the usage it is nothing she is doing, but some background app that is regularly (hourly) connecting with GPRS and doing... well something, but I have no idea what :-S The info on the usage (from Orange) is (e.g.)
date & time event type dialled number/description duration/vol(Kb) cost (?)
22/05/11 19:22 GPRS ap-prepaidsessio 38.0 0.00
with the same entry every hour:22
We have tried disabling as many sync type options / apps as we can find (e.g. Timescape) but it is still happening, and is driving me up the wall.
The reason I am even more annoyed is that most of the time it is at home, and connected (apparently successfully) to our wifi, so why the hell is it using GPRS anyway when there is an active wifi conection?! :-S
I have tried everything I can think of, and short of turning it off there seems little I can do. Can anyone help please??
- Which app is doing this?
- How do I configure it to either
i) use Wifi (preferred - would rather not disable functionality if possible) or
ii) stop auto syncing every hour?
Any help very gratefully received!
Thanks in advance
T
There are a couple of apps out there that can monitor data usage per app. But so far, all those that I found require Froyo (2.2) and above. I'm guessing your using the stock SE ROM so that's 2.1.
But there is an alternative.
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Click Usage Statistics
Click Battery history
Click the Other usage dropdown
Click network usage
That should show you which apps are using your network connection. But both wifi and 3g; at least it gives you an idea.
As to how to prevent use, you could go to each app and customize syncing options if at all possible. If you just want to block an app from using the network totally, I suggest LBE Privacy Guard, free on the market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lbe.security
They have a thread here on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091065
EDIT: BTW, the phone shouldn't be using GPRS when wifi is available. That's weird. First time I've heard of that happening.
Many thanks for the info - really useful - will check the links you've given.
On the wifi (and yes it is weird - and annoying!) could it be "connected" but without a "proper" connection? Is there some way I can check, e.g. switch off GPRS and see if can see www?
Just tried what you suggested (disconnected the internet from my wifi router, but router still on), and my X10MP didn't even attempt to connect to GPRS despite using apps which use data. The apps returned errors.
Maybe your X10M fails to connect to the wifi? I actually have no idea what's going on.
you and me both buddy!
thanks for trying tho!
I'll delete the connection anyway and try set it up again....

I didn't need to enable anything to use that. Sorry, don't know how else to help.
well it carried on despite various fiddling. so I did a factory reset.... no accounts set up no sync etc - factory reset - and it's still happening??!! so something SE/Android is doing it, but I still have no idea what? Surely I'm not the only person with this issue??!! :S :S :S

very simple fix, go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > uncheck Data enabled.
that way mobile data (gprs,edge,3g) is turned off and your problem is solved. If you're using stock SE software, theres a Data Traffic widget that lets you toggle the Data Enabled setting on and off easily.
Sync is not the only thing using data traffic, background apps can too, as well as some of the apps she might be using. ( some apps have adverts )
Thanks. Had also been nosing on SE site, and am obviously not the only person with this problem. I unchecked the box a few hours ago, am hoping that that cures it. I've also found anotehr PAYG plan with the same provider that has unlimited internet, so may switch to that. So one way or another will be resolved.
However I am still left annoyed. This ****** device is supposed to be under MY contorl not the other way round! Not knowing what is doing this, or (and because of this) not being able to stop it is ****** annoying! As is the fact it (whatever "it" or "they" are) is using GPRS when there is an open wifi connection!!
Ho hum - progress eh...
Well turning off the Data seems to have done the trick thanks. NOt really satisfactory not knowing what is doing it, but there we go. Thanks for all the help all
If shes not using the data at all, you can try to delete all access points - GPRS,WAP, etc. even MMS...with no APN, no connection, no access to net, no credit loss...Just go to settings-wireless networks-mobile networks-access point names-click on any of them-press menu button and choose delete...Im working for the operator so I solve this kind of problems every day :-D It is easy if you dont want to use net in mobile at all but still I think you should flash it with SEUS because your problem is weird.
That's the thing - she does use data. so want it to be enabled. but the vast majority of the time is at home with a perfectly good wifi connection, so why won't it use that?!
Anyway am swapping to a PAYG tarriff promising "free" internet, so will see how that goes.
thanks t

That notification comes from the system or from the application?
I get no confirmation message when I turn on the GPS on my X10.
If the app itself produces this notification, then you should contact the developer,
because you are right, it renders the application useless.
good question but my phone is rendering the confirmation/notification, not the application. every time i turn on GPS, no matter how i still get the agree/disagree disclaimer. even if i go directly into the phone settings under location and security and try to enable it still says "data transmission charges may apply. anonymous data will be collected when an application uses GPS. Agree or Disagree"
im kinda shocked that yours doesnt say it. what rom are you using? im on 2.1 update 1 global and rooted.

Maybe you can leave the GPS on...
If no application is using it, it won't affect your battery. And you can always know if it's in use from the flashing icon in the statusbar.
I am on custom ROM, but I don't remember it happening on stock 2.1 either. I could be wrong though.

usb debugging and unknown sources are checked. but im a little confused by your statement, you said "make sure both boxes are ticked." you mean gps and wireless networks? if so, then thats exactly my point. i need them off during normal use but i want them to turn on via my SMS app. i dont leave them on all the time because of battery draining. the SMS app im using turns on wifi without any notification. but turning on the gps always gives a notification..thats what im trying to alleviate.

Turning on the GPS only (not the wireless network location)
will not drain your battery, unless an app is polling location data.
And if it does, you'll see the GPS icon in the statusbar, it can't happen without you knowing.
So leave GPS on is your best solution.
Or contact the developer of the app to implement a different way of turning on the GPS.

I get this message when enabling it too, every time, it's a system message when activating the gps itself, not through the mobile network, very annoying by the way.
And the same thing happens with data, kinda makes it hard to remotely enable anything on stock rom when your phone is stolen, what were sony thinking?
This will solve your problem.
For Root Explorer, go to /system/app, find "LearningClient.apk," click Mount R/W on the upper right corner, and DELETE this app. (May be risky)
The safest way is to use rom toolbox app manager or Titanium Backup, find "Learning Client 2.1 1.0.0," and FREEZE it.
it's working, but could you tell us what that service doing? I mean "learning client", is it safe to disable it?

[Q]

I have agalaxy s2 and have the GPRS pack enabled from Vodafone.
Every 2 minutes my phone flashes with a message about the usage of gprs data and how much i have left. This causes screen to come on and phone to vibrate. This message is similar to the balance messages sent by network after each call (not an sms, just message with OK button)
Any option to disable these messages. Everyone i know if being annoyed with this.
Vodafone India tells me they dont know how these messages can be stopped.
Is there an app or something that can block these ?
This is happening because you might have installed Juice Defender or similar software that switches off your 3G/Edge (data) connection when your screen is turned off. There are 2 options for you to try:
1. Ensure that your data connection is always ON even after you turn off the screen. OR
2. If you are rooted, try this app: Prepay Widget
https://market.android.com/details?...EsImZhaHJib3QuYXBwcy51c3NkLndpZGdldC5saXRlIl0.
It might work even if you are not rooted. Give it a try.

Hi I would like to see a solution for this too. Not that I get those messages now and then, but whenever sending an sms I get a box like that telling I have been changed 0.00 rs which is actually annoying. I will try the app, however there any other way than rooting to stop the pop up?
@OP u got sense 3.0 UI in GS2?
got a reply from Vodafone email support that it cant be turned off.
wonder if there is an app that that block these messages.
I've turned off battery apps like Juice defender so i dont get many notifications
A tech rep saying it can't be done is a worthless response.
At the very least you could investigate options like:
Removing the process via Root Explorer (or similar app)
Freeze whatever the app or process is that is doing this in Titanium Backup.
Flashing to a stock (non-branded) firmware that doesn't include this crap.
Flashing to a custom firmware that doesn't include this crap
Its not a installed app that is doing this ! The service provider sends a flash message with the usage details.
Isnt there any apps that can block these. I'm sure it will be very popular with Vodafone users if someone makes one.
There should be some kind of MOD to push the pop up message mentioned by the OP in the first post to the notification bar at least.

Let's kill the "Mobile data is turned off" notification!!

Hi Fellow ATT S7E Owners,
Some of us have chosen to stay Stock on this phone. My primary reason is not tripping Knox and using Samsung Pay. I have been trying to fix most issues or workarounds:
1. AdBlocking
2. Mobile Data toggle
3. Package Disabler to turn down the bloat
But for us ATT users, there is this annoying continuous notification that pops when we turn off data for the first time, after a reboot, EVER IF, we have WiFi on ! It goes, "Mobile data is turned off."
Googled and researched ways of getting rid of this annoying message. Wondering if any of you had success with it? Getting all of us to talk about it to see if there is a solution, thank you!

There is very simple solution . Turn your data on. If you worry that you get overages turn off some background data for apps. When you on WiFi your mobile data is not in use.
For all the hype about having control over your notifications, not being able to change this one is super annoying. I'm also guessing AT&T is trying to get us to us as much data as possible so they change charge us more.

The only way to get rid of it for now which is not very fun btw, Swipe right on the notification until you see the gear on the left and tap the gear. After that tap "phone" with the green icon next to the word "phone" and then tap "force stop".
So far that's the only way to get rid of it.

No Sir it was never solved and I moved on to the S8+.
The Theme I was using was called, "Red Strokes" I believe with custom icons and a wallpaper.
Hope someone cracks this!
Galaxy s9, Android 8.0.0 here. Following worked for me, check if it works for you:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Developer Options
3. Look for "Keep Mobile data turned on". Uncheck that.
And hopefully, voila...
EDIT:
This method does not work anymore...
1. Settings
2. Apps
3. Select Options, then Show System Apps
4. Locate "Phone" (Maybe there will be 3)
5. Select every "Phone" App that you find and select "Force to Stop"
and the message dissapers.
(If you restart the phone you will need to do this again).
