[Q] Permanent desktop mode in stock browser on ICS? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
Is there some way to "force" permanent desktop mode in the stock browser on ICS?. I tried ICS Browser + and setting it to the desktop setting it still rendered mobile sites. The only thing that really made it render desktop sites was toggling "Request desktop site", but that setting is cleared every time the browser closes.
I know there is/was mods out for the older roms for the SGS2, which allowed you to set permanent desktop mode without screwing up facebook. But so far I have not found any for the stock ICS browser.
But does anyone know any, or knows ways I can achieve this WITHOUT downloading another browser.

Have a look in "settings>apllications>`browser´"
There delete the Data once.
If the same thing appears after a new start of browser it is set in settings from Rom or kind of it ...

Hannibal,
are you talking about me having to do it in ICS Browser + or the stock browser.

Still no smart way of making the Stock browser display desktop sites by default?
It's so simple to do on a Note 2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35756070&postcount=117

Browser Question

First post here....
FINALLY got a chance to play around w my Galaxy 10.1 last night. Mostly looking on line, setting up bookmarks/favorites etc.
I have a question on the web browser. Every time I click on a link, it opens a new tab. After 10/15 minutes of browsing, I had tons of tabs opened up top. Is there any way to make the browser "behave" like Mozilla Firefox does on my home PC? In other words when I click on a link, it just goes to that web page without opening a new tab up top.
Also, when I shut down the browser, then re-open it, all of the tabs I had been looking at are still there. Basically what I'd like to have happen is to have all the tabs close out when I close out the browser.
Is there a workable solution to these issues?? Can I change the settings somewhere? Should I download a different browser??
Thanks!
Yes. You may need to download another browser. It seems stock browser cannot fulfill your request.
I recommend Dolphin Browser for Tablets.

How to Force "Desktop Browser View"

I'm coming from Thunderbolt and one thing that absolutely annoys me is that browser by default requests mobile pages and no matter how many times I force "Desktop" in about:useragent, I'm still getting mobile view experience.
I'm running stock SGS2 LTE on AT&T.
Does anyone know how to properly and once for all force Desktop view on SGS2?
Thank you.
Personally I used the Dolphin HD browser and have the Agent set to desktop in the browser options. Haven't had any issues myself.
Any known way of permanently fixing the built in browser for desktop view?
Anyone? Don't tell me it's impossible?!!

Force browser to desktop or iPad format???

Is there a way to force the browser to display the desktop of iPad format of certain websites?
I have a couple that keep reverting to the mobile version and I have to keep hitting the setting to ask it to reload the desktop version.
Thanks
Use Dolphin or Boat browser. These are the most popular it seems that have desktop only as an option. There are others of course

I was going to get Dolphin but saw some recent reports that they are now loading crapware or suspect side apps with it now. Is this true?
For stock browser yes: go to about:debug in the address bar. It won't work but will enable more stuff in the menu and settings activity. Go into settings and hunt for it.
In practice though it doesn't quite work right so it's better to use a different browser. ICS Browser+ is basically the same thing with the UA stuff fixed (and no need of about:debug to toggle the settings GUI). Opera Mobile is better.

[Q] Browser question

Hey guys Im having a problem and its driving me nuts. Ive used Dolphin as my internet for the last 2 yrs, but I like the default browser for some reason. The problem Im having is the address bar is being cut off by the status bar you can only see half of it. Im writing this from my computer so I will post the screenshot from my phone in a minute but its really driving me nuts. I tried going into the apps and clearing the defaults but its not doing a thing. I tried going into the dolphin settings cuz I gave up and make that the default and I did and clicked it to be the default but everytime I click a link for something it takes me the HTC browser and the annoying half address bar. Any ideas how to make that address bar show in full or to make the dolphin as default because each time I set it to default I go back into dolphin settings and its still saying NOT default browser
i suggest using chrome beta if you use chrome on the PC. to change your default browser go to settings and scroll down to app assosiations. you can change the browser there

Ya I did that, but each time I click on a link it doesnt give me a option of the stock browser or dolphin even though I cleared it, it just used the stock. And when I go into the dolphin settings and click make dolphin your default and check the box and select dolphin, I go right to a link through GFB, Twitter, android central widget anything, and it goes through the default browser even after I just cleared the defaults and clicked it in dolphin.

you dont clear it, you choose a browser to open links
I got it. For some reason I had to clear cache and data the stock browser and then clear as default, then for some reason I clicked on a link then it used Dolphin without having to select one weird. But thanks for the help, now its just gonna drive me nuts why the address bar is being cut off even though Im not using it. I might have to try out Chrome to, I use it on my computer but never on my phone

Permanent Desktop mode on stock JB Browser?

I had been under the impression the stock browser for the JB build for the SGS3 was actually chrome. It however seems it is not since the fix to make desktop mode stick does NOT work for the stock browser.
So does someone know of a way to get the stock JB browser to actually stop showing mobile sites and actually serve the proper full on websites as well?. And yes I have tried the chrome-command line file, but that doesn't work for the stock browser as previously stated, so either the stock JB browser is not chrome or something else is wrong.
So can someone please help me achieve this, ie getting no annoying mobile view on my SGS3?
thank you
