I'm looking for some experienced Android developers to assist me with a tablet note-taking app. I'm open-sourcing it under the Apache license, but probably will monetize it on the market.
The general idea is to be able to capture a lecture or meeting's audio, and put in text, graphic, and handwritten annotations. Then, when you are replaying the meeting or lecture, you visibly see a waveform of the audio with notes, images, etc. below, describing what is going on and providing more detail.
Notes will be grouped into sections. The app will be designed for API level 11 or higher.
Let me know if you're interested.
Fantastic! This is JUST the kind of app I'll be looking to use. Let me know and I'll gladly beta test for you and be a first day buyer. Good luck!
If you build just the handwriting portion and create a penultimate-like android version, I will buy
I've been working on a notes application since my partner got his xoom last weekend, better beat me to it

+1 to buying it!
Sounds like a good idea for meetings too. Could you insert bookmarks for notes for the audio? So if you're browsing the notes you can jump to that section of audio?

I had to stop as I don't have a xoom yet, I was working on it all last weekend. It will definitely start out as only a text based quick notes interface, then expand from there.

That's the whole idea.
This would be a must have for any college xoom owner, +1 for buying the app
I'm having trouble seeing how this would be useful without an active digitizer and pen..
don't get me wrong, this could still be a very cool app and I hope you get it working
but I don't think I'll be straying from my windows tablet with onenote any time soon
if you got this working on the htc flyer on the other hand, we might have something I could use as my only note taking device for university.
I probably wouldn't buy the flyer anyway though. The xoom is just so much nicer
Edit: Before someone starts saying how I could just get a capacitive pen, you have no idea what you're missing until you've tried a wacom or n-trig pen(especially wacom). It's like night and day.

My roommate has a wacom... I know i can't compete with quality of handwriting on most hardware, but I can make the software easier to use. The easier the software, the better the notes will tend to be, plus I really want the audio to provide a lot of power, with the handwritten, typed, and other inserted notes only supplementing the audio and making it searchable/disoverable.
well.. I look forward to seeing what you come up with =]

i have a capacitive stylus for my ipad and it works beautifully for taking handwritten notes. Penultimate & note taker HD are the best ones imo
I'll buy the first app that rivals Penultimate.
I just looked up penultimate on youtube
it's definitely not bad
but it still doesn't rival onenote
not by a long shot
and I was surprised at well capacitive pens were working for people
but again, it still doesn't really come close to an active digitizer
now, I'm sure this app will still be great
and I could definitely see people using it to quickly describe something to someone or maybe for a few quick notes at a meeting
but there's no way it's going to be able to be used for taking notes at university
I'll stick with my fujitsu tablet
but like I said, I do look forward to seeing what this app will be able to do
it will definitely have it's uses
I've been thinking about making a note taking app myself it would be good to collaborate!

I've been "working on" a note taking app too I have drawn some designs for it and me and a few friends (all of us programmers, but no Android experience) are gonna try to get started on it.
Good luck!
Anyone using this? And what are your thoughts? It looks really nice but looks like a memory hog!
I bought if shortly after reading about it on engadget. I will tell you this. I was in the world of updating and changing my look on my phone almost weekly. After putting this Launcher on I found what could possibly be the last launcher I will ever use or need. It is extremely fluid, not to mention the eye candy involved. The way you can cleverly add new pages whenever and wherever you want is plain awesome. I have yet to find any true gripes other than it does not sync facebook pictures in your contact list to its widgets. So the events widget, messaging and contacts folder were a bit of an annoyance. Other than that very solid and stable. Hope this helps. And if you have any questions let me know.
Check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016261
I use it and love it. By far the best eye candy. Though I miss a few things, like landscape mode and animated wallpapers. It's not perfect, but for the looks it's the best.
I'm seeing a lot of people liking this spb shell 3d...and am wondering if I missed anything when I gave it a try and returned within the 15 minutes. The things I couldn't find that I was expecting from being a long time user of spb shell on Windows Mobile, were a true contacts panel, where you can change the arrangement, size, action etc. of your favorite contacts or scroll through their pictures carousel style. With is actually being called '3D' it would be more likely this is an option and I just missed it. Can you easily switch between a 'Home' and 'Pro' set of panels?
I use it and love it too. Great speed and effects. Well worth the $$ to me.
Its' so fast and clean, I can't go back to anything else. Definitely worth all the money.

Agreed
Still the best I have used and worth the $15 but lacking landscape and live wallpaper. Prolly fixed in the next release
Eh couldn't find out how to get rid of the Flickr widget thing, plus it doesn't look to great with GreyBlur :/
I can't believe i paid 15 bucks for this =/
I have the new update and i'm rooted. I've been on stock for the past 5 days(waiting on gingerblur 3.0) I opted to try this out yesterday in place of stock.

Hey Guys
I just wanted to hear your thoughts on what you hope to put onto your home screens when Chameleon does get released in August?
I've donated to the good cause and here is hoping it's going to look as good as some of those prototype video's I've seen, wow!
what do you think would be the most useful to put on each screen?
I personally would like to dedicate a screen to a terminal ssh widget (like airterm or better terminal emulator), ezpdf/picture viewer widget for diagrams, world clock, calculator, and perhaps email on one screen.
For the fun stuff on other screens: Browser, stickit, Pulse, tapatalk/xda, netflix, wikipedia, playerpro, whatsapp, Fb, G+. Solid explorer, youtube and alot more!
Im looking forward to this new development into the android tablet UI, there will be alot of interesting developement into intergrating/optimising current and new widgets for Chameleon. Ultimately it saves the hassle of constantly switching or opening new applications all the time, it will be there right at your finger tips and I have a good feeling that it should be on overal great experience.
I'm just hoping I didn't waste $10 and that it is actually released.
I'm pretty sure it will make it, $35000/50000 and 19 days to go. To think they got that much in about 11 days + they would probably extend it if it gets close to 50k
it will be released even if the budget is not met.
if the budget is met it just means it gets released earlier.
I backed the kickstarter for the Chameleon but I am not even sure if I will end up using it. It certainly seems interesting and the demo looked nice but my needs don't change with the time of day, at least not as far as my tablet is concerned.
Doesn't matter though, I enjoy supporting innovative ideas and it only cost $10. I spend less than that in lunch every day
Once it comes out, I'm gonna ask /g/ to set it up, they always have great theme ideas.

Not sure if i will get in trouble for posting this in here, but,my reason is because the Rezound forum is where i spend all my time and i wanted to ask you guy's/gal's instead! :silly:
Anyway, anyone here have an N7 and can give some personal experience pros/cons?
Looking to pick one up for X-mas. Will mainly be used by my wife and myself for browsing, watching vids, e-books. Anyone have a blue tooth keyboard attached that they recommend?
Feel free to add any additional info that you think a perspective buyer may be interested to know.

My brother has one and i love it. cant beat that price for one of the most powerful tablets on the market now.
Pros:
Hardware
Google updates
$$$
Cons:
No expandable memory. He has the 8gb from launch and it cant hold that much. he blew through the 8gb fast and is now trying to play catch up when downloading new games.
If you plan on getting one. Please get the 32gb. I know people will argue saying its not needed if you're just going to browse or watch a couple of videos. But it happens to fill up quickly and you cant change your mind. lol
U love mine kindda p.o. about buying one before the price dropped lol but get one it is worth it

I bought my gf one for her birthday and she loves it. She hardly even uses her computer anymore. I love the fact that you can add multiple users. She has her own profile and when I feel like using it I click on my profile and instantly shows all my stuff on my own home screen.
Oh and the only thing she doesn't like about it is the camera quality on Skype is horrible. I've read that there are mods to improve the camera quality, but because this is her tablet I am not rooting it.

I absolutely love mine. I got the 16gb version and I use it every day. My laptop basically only gets used for burning CDs now. I'm running the stock rooted 4.2.1 and I think it's perfect. This is the first Android device where I didn't have a desire to install a different launcher or install some form of heavily modified or AOSP ROM. It's worth every penny in my opinion.

I love mine, just got it last week. my girlfriend has her settings and i have mine, it's awesome. i use a logitech bluetooth keyboard and google drive during school to take notes. the keyboard pairs easily and i experience little to no lag while using it. i can download my books on there too and boom, that all i have to bring. the keyboard comes with a case that transforms into a stand for the tablet when taking notes.. i linked it below, it's also available at best buy(where i got mine). good luck, it's definitely a good buy. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-...words=logitech+bluetooth+keyboard+for+android
I absolutely love my N7 and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much. Feel free to PM me with any questions you have. If you're doing research in the N7 sections, in the past it's been mostly trolls and morons who post in general but not development, so at the very least find someone who is active in both sections.

I have the 32gb version and I am very happy with it. I take mine out in the field with me and have it tethered it to my Rezound which is great for my daily use. If you are flasher then I would suggest taking a look at the Nexus 7 forums, some really nice Roms.
It is great for what it is, just don't have false expectations. Not to be combative but if she plans on doing the things you mentioned extra memory is not needed. I am a fairly heavy user and haven't even looked to see how much of my 16gb I have used.
Con: as a flasher I get kind of annoyed with all of the updates. bc so many updates the roms never really smooth out. Everytime I think it's set up great there is a new update. (first time with a nexus so maybe just annoyed with change).
I have an 8gb one with an OTG cable. I hook up my 16gb card to it. I also stream my music and movies from my server. Bought the OTG cable on Amazon for $.70.

I've had one since release ans I love it. Only con I can see is that there is no expandable memory options however the device holds up really nice. I have a Bluetooth keyboard for it as well, I got it from Motorola off of Amazon and haven't looked back I also have a treegloo case for it however I'm not sure I would recommend it because as of late it has been starting to break down even though I haven't abused it in the slightest

Well, it will be a Merry Christmas in my household......I picked up a 32gb last night!!
All i did was charge it a bit and turn it on to make sure it was working properly and immediately put it back in the box. Mainly bc my wife and myself are dorks and want to wait til christmas morning to officially open it :silly:
Now I am accessory shopping, need a nice case and maybe a stylus. I messed around with the display model a bit, and, with an iPad mini. Mini is wider, thinner and a bit lighter. And the thinness and lighjtness is where the comparison stops for me. The screen on the Nexus absolutely blows the mini out of the water. I didn't get too in depth using them, but I didnt need to. The screen comparison blew me away. I couldn't get over it.
Can't wait to hack away Christamas morning!

Don't have time to read through the entire thread to see what everyone is saying, BUT if you are considering getting one then you definitely should. I don't even know where to start, but its perfect in every way. Very brief breakdown.
Pros: the perfect size, battery life is great, ROM development is plentiful, the device itself is really fast(running aokp 4.2.1) , lots of options for cases, and much more.
Cons: None!
I originally got it for when I run on my treadmill in the basement to watch Netflix and downloaded TV shows. Now after having it for a month I bring the thing with me almost everywhere. Best $250 I've spent in a long time.

I use it daily for draw something. Other than the game... not too much. Sometimes for grocery lists and drawing on pictures. I lost it for 2 days and felt like my phone was rendered useless (not even close).
Hardly use it. Although with the light saber mod I pull it out just for the sound.

It wasn't a selling point for me. I didn't think I would use it very much at all, and I don't.
I use it rarely.
I use it all of the time. I got mine with the original VZW release and spent the next week at a professional meeting and used it all day instead of carrying a notebook. I use it now whenever I need to enter text; much easier to me than using the keyboard. I also have the s-pen with eraser, and while it is bordering on junk, I found it is much more intuitive to just pull than out of my pocket to write a note.
I use mine quite a bit. I like using it for entering text, as well as for navigating and editing photos. The apps Button Savior and GMD Spen Control make it much more useful.
I use mine a fair bit. I have a three year old who likes to color on my phone. I'm just getting over a torn tendon in my primary hand so using the s pen was easier than typing and now I've just gotten used to it. And I have actually used the note taking feature for work and home.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I use mine quite a bit as well. I bought mine to see if I could replace the note 10.1, which it essentially has. The main use is text entry during meetings. I also enjoy marking up pdf blueprints, as the pen makes things a lot more natural and accurate, which in the field, is essential.
Sent from my SCH-I605
I use it almost daily. It's great for web surfing so you're not constantly zooming in just to make an accurate tap. Also use it for Draw Something and for editing photos.

Polar opposite: The S Pen was not a factor at all in my decision to buy this phone. But now that I have it, I'm using the S Pen more and more. I make quick notes with it, use it on the keyboard for long emails, documents, etc. and a few other apps. It's getting to be more and more important to me.
So for me, it's gone from being a gimmick to a useful tool.
I use mine a lot but I drive cab so it's not to be able to always have something to write with on the go.

I use it to take notes in meetings. It makes my note-taking closer to professional, not like using finger to type on ipad , god knows if you are playing games or typing notes.
Pen is suitable in professional meeting room.
And the pop-up note shortcut is just awesome. when i am in a call or something, can just take down phone number or other notes.
also use Notes to draw a close circle to take a partial screenshot and share it. =)
I use my s-pen most of the time I installed flow beta just so I could type with it better.

I use my s-pen all the time. I would say that I use it more at home then in public. As a Note owner I would invest in a app called "GMD Spen Control". A little on the expensive side at $5 but it gives you more control without relying on hard controls.
Even if you took the s-pen away I would still rank the Note 2 above the HTC DNA seeing that it was the phone I was craving for mid summer. But the best thing about the Note 2 is that you don't have to use the s-pen if that's not your style. But for me the s-pen is more precise when it comes to web browsing.

LOL!!! I just mentioned GMD spen in my post without reading this one. It cannot be stressed enough that this app is a must buy if you use the s-pen. I assigned the menu, home, recent and back actions to the top of my status bar and a tap carries out the action. Or you can just perform a shortcut move to bring up buttons/apps. Must buy app.
