more of a question/request as to can this be done. you can download the the voice packs for tomtom/garman sat navs ect, i was wondering if this can be done with google maps. be nice to have Mr,T telling me wher to turn rather than a mono tone woman.
the file format that tomtom uses for its voice packs are "POI files" if his helps.
Try the American SVOX voices, they're not celebs but they're good enough.
This post takes me back to when I had my Symbian Nokia 6680. I remember Homer Simpson's voice in TomTom.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy Ace
"In... One... hundred... yards... you have reached your... destination"
There was Johanna Lumley as well.
"Darling, in 50 yards turn right."
"Your destination is on the right, darling".
Oh, the good old days...

haha
i cant find anything about this for google sat nav. it would be great to have homer or Mr T, or anyone else with a qwerky voice

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows why I can't use google navigation (in Belgium)?
Also there seem to be no good gps softwares on the arket for legend.
I can't drive my car WATCHING google maps 'my location' without clear directions/spoken.
Any advise appreciated!
Another thing that is not possible is voice recognition, hos is it possible that HTC decided to block this on Legend? Unbelievable!
Thanks!
Navigon, Sygic, iGo... pretty good imo
try CoPilot.. it´s not free but close TomTom. maps are available for almost everywhere
I am using NDrive
I bought iGo and I must say, its pretty good, its fast, it fixes the position in seconds and I just love it
I was hoping that by the time Ill by my Legend, there will be tom tom for android, but theres not ... so
best one for me is the sygic, very similar to tomtom and very reliable.

Because Google didn't enable it yet for Belgium (it's only available in US & UK).
You could always install Brut's hacked Google Maps, which enables Google Nav for unsupported countries ;-)
sygic is the best!
Navigon
I have a very good experience with Navigon for Android.

Well, I did install a "workarounded" maps found somewher on this forum, and apart from the fact that it unexpectedly did a total makeover of my phone, it only is another way to find out that Google Maps is not supported in BeNeLux.
You can choose routing, only to get a message from google that maps is not (yet) supported for my region.
Presumably routing needs additional data from google or they found a way to block access again.
I guess the latter, as I tried to travel around in the US with the same result.
I had the exact same problems (also got belgium HTC Legend without voice recognation and navigation) BUT: you can get it working farly easy.
Here is a link to the google navigation BRUT mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
Brut.all made the google navigation work everywhere even in Belgium.
And since 18/05 it even has voice guidance.
For the Voice recognation (Voice Search) I've uploaded the one that works for me on megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AV5QM1CZ
If that doesn't work try searching google for voice search apk. I've tried at least 10 since I found one that wasn't giving me an error.
I'm using Navigon and I'm really happy with that..
copilot
I didnt think irealand was big enough to warrant a satnav (jus kidin) i am using copilot cracked iff anyone wants the apk file pm me i find it by far the best one around i have tried most. All you need is the apk once installed it dloads current maps automatically and also speed cameras.
iGo is great.

I'm pretty sure I've already posted this, but I can't find it, so I'm posting again.
So I installed sygic, but it won't load any maps even though they are in the right directory "/Maps/xxx/xxx.pak".
I also tried "/maps/xxx/xxx.pak" and "/maps/xxx.pak", but ut doesn't work.
Anyone's got a solution for this ?
nobody ? __
when using the correct *.mlm file it should work *.mlm file is in maps folder...
you better could look here for more info and how to's

hey guys! is there a way to change Samsung voice recognition by vilingo to Google voice recognition??
Google voice engine is better and servers work FAST in every country.
Vlingo is hell too slow... 15 seconds for each phrase (slow servers from my country)
thanks guys!
ps: Changing voice and input from phone settings WONT WORK, dont bother to answear that
ps2: IF WE CHANGE THIS SETTING: people with other phones will be able to use this app. Actually Samsung blocks servers to every phone that it's not an SIII
You need a search engine and search for XDA Google Now .
Or start by reading the Google now post in General .

The idea is to use S VOICE, google now is not the same for samsung phones.
Please, do not recomend another app. Please, let's try to change the voice recognition of the S VOICE.
Thats the idea of this post
Thanks anyway.
S Voice is dead and will cease to exist for the SGS3 in a few weeks .
But good luck in trying to mod S Voice .

Spoken street names, yes you can have them, just download the voice package that handles them.
Changing vehicle types.... not sure and I haven't seen an option.
MY question... need to know if it's possible to find, download, and side load a voice package. I want to find the sexiest one I can find. lol

Hey guys, while searching for a suitable Siri like app for Android I went through almost all the available apps from the Play Store (Free & Paid) = Found nothing even close to Siri. S-voice and Google Now are good and accurate don't get me wrong. But the issue with both the alla is that after you have dictated something you have to manually look at the screen to confirm that it wrote down exactly what you said. Siri in that regard is awesome because after you've dictated it reads back to you.
So in my pursuit for perfection I stumbled upon Dragon (Hands-Free Assistant). Here is a video I made on it. Also for people in countries other than the US (like me [Canada]) I show you how to install it as well. Enjoy!

Hello guys,
So, i just bought a Samsung Gear S for my HTC One, and yes i know this is not 100% fully working, but i'll get a Samsung Alpha in few months.
Well, i followed your tutoriels and guides, and nothing went as planned.
The most embarassing thing is that i can't acces the Samsung Gear Store : is this a normal thing ? Or did i just mess up somewhere ?
Surprinsingly, S Voice function works 100%. I can't control my music tho. And the phone calls works very fine.
So, do you guys have any idea how i could fix this store issue ? Cause i would like to install something like Opera Mini or some other apps.
Thank you for reading, and sorry for my poor english
You need a Samsung phone that you can pair with the Gear s in order access the Samsung app store to install apps on the watch.
Best to find a friend with a compatible phone , pair it with theirs, then add whatever apps you want.
Or go to an electronics store that has compatible phones on display and pair your watch with one of them if you can.

I have an HTC M8 too and tried the workaround. This caused various issues and a few things didn't work post install of the Gear Mgr. I wanted something better and needed access to the gear store. And the last thing I wanted was be forced to buy and use a Samsung phone.
This isn't for everybody, but here's my fix...
I just bought a cheapo Samsung Gear S compatible phone off eBay and turned it into a notification relay point. You can get one for as little as ~$70:
Plug in it, connect to Wi-Fi, download Gear Mgr, clone the apps/email (from HTC) you want Notifs from, and set it up to remotely send the chosen app's notifications. For your HTC's texts, there are a handful of SMS forwarding apps on Play that work great. One app allows for you to reply with the native mobile # just as if it came from your HTC. Last step, set your watch to be standalone.
Everything works, including S-voice.
Thanks a lot guys ! A friend of mine has à Galaxy Note 2, i think it will be fine !
I'll keep you in touch if anyone wants to know what happened next !

Could you explain this a bit more, please?
I have someone who would love to get the Gear S but is a hard core iPhone user. I guess he could get a cheapo Galaxy phone, connect it to Wifi at home, but I don't understand the clone part, and how the cheapo gets the HTC notifications.
Guessing it may not work at all with an iPhone, but still interested in understanding the process.
Samsung could have really tapped that market by releasing a Gear Manager app on the Apple app store, and advertised a bit more.
No one knows what's on my wrist, but once explained, a lot of people would be potential customers if only the friggin Galaxy phone wasn't a prerequisite.

What you need to do is basically put the same apps on the relay device as your daily driver. Sign in to each app and then go to the Gear Mgr and make sure that app has a check mark.
As far as email. Use the stock Samsung email app and/or GMail . Enter all of your account info and, again, make sure the Gear Mgr is set.
So basically, all your doing is taking a dummy S compatible phone and creating a clone of your phone's app and email configuration.
Not sure if the iStore has an app that will forward your texts...but, hopefully, they should. If not, Google voice is another way to go.
