Flashing my fascinate for the first time. Flashed cm7 7.1 stable build and my phone is having a hell of time running with the SD card. sometimes cm will recognize it but most of the time it starts to freak out after a few minutes of working and say BLANK SD CARD or SD CARD UNEXPECTEDLY REMOVED. It will also lock my phone and cause it to restart. Also if i boot up with SD card in it bootloops me. quick clear of all data and no SD card in i can reboot. with the SD card out it runs great and boots great. I have the stock 16gb sandisk SD Card that the fascinate comes with. Before you guys ask, I have already reflashed a bunch of times and i have reflashed back to stock and then tried all over again. still no cigar.
Please Help !!!
Probably best to get a class 6+ SD card. Have you tried formatting the card on your computer, then using it?
Yes, I saved all my files i needed then formatted fat32 same problems. should i have done NTFS? where can i come about one of these class 6 cards.
I've been using one of these in my Fascinate since last summer with excellent results:

i will have to check into getting one. but there is no way or any kind of fix to make the stock fascinate sd card work with cm7 ?? seems to work fine with other roms that i tried today (AOKP build 29 ICS). id love to be using cm7 though without this problem.
It does seem strange that it'd work with AOKP but not CM7. I don't know, I had one SD card that wouldn't work with MTD roms and one that did. Although I've gotta say, I don't know why one would choose CM7 over AOKP?

I guess your right. this AOKP build 29 is way better. just am weary cas its only a "build" which is why i was thinking try and find a fix for cm7.
took a look over on the CM forum and it seems that the "stock" sd card has been a problem and no "fixes" yet. looks like ill have to try a different class sd card.

I've been having ongoing problems with my SD card in both MIUI and CM7. Basically, sometimes my card will mount and sometimes it won't. When I try to mount it, it sometimes says "damaged card" or "blank card" There's no consistent behavior. Sometimes it loads up fine on reboot, sometimes it works fine if I eject and reinsert it or unmount/mount it, but sometimes not. I've tried two different cards - one a sandisk 32gb class4, one a sandisk 2gb class4. I've tried reformatting the cards both on the phone and on the computer, using windows standard format and also the sdformatter program. I've loaded each ROM several times, ODINed back to stock, ext4 formatter, kernel cleaner; tried different kernels, different radios, different cards.
The cards I'm convinced are not the problem, because they work fine on the computer and also on my phone using different ROMs. I've seen people come up with this problem here and there, but not found a reliable fix. Every thing I've seen recommended I've tried, but nothing lasts. Sometimes things will work fine for a couple of days, then I'll start having problems again.
bump - anybody have any input on this problem?
+1
just flashed cm7. My sdcard works fine on cm6.
the other weird, app2sd is just fine, every app on that partition working, except accessing sdcard.
sdcard also can mount on recovery using, as well as mount mass storage via recovery (mass storage failed on OS)
The only problems I've ever seen with sd cards is on ec09 but not cm7 or miui.. based on what you describe...I would think its a hardware issue with your phone not the rom, not the kernel, nor the sd card itself, have you tried pulling the battery, removing the sd card and cleaning the contacts on your phone with some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip..do the same to the card or you can use a pencil eraser for the card...is it possible you could have tried to insert a card the wrong way or a little crooked? I'm just brain storming for ya cause I'm not sure on a definite fix.
If you can, I would back up everything on your card while its still usable just in case its crapping out on ya

Thanks. I haven't tried that, but not sure how it could be a hw issue since the card works just fine on other ROMs on the same phone. Never had any SD card issues of any kind until I started messing with these GB ROMs. I will try, though.
I'm really thinking of going back to a froyo rom for now because I need stability. But this is such an intermittent/rarely reported issue that I don't think anybody's really working on it. I don't know that it will ever get fixed, in other words. Oh, well.
Well, I've given up on cm7 for now. I've gone back to ed05, trying the powerwashed ROM for now. Got to get some stability out of my phone, and unfortunately, I'm coming up with nothing from cm7. Maybe if there's a big update or something I'll have time to play with it again.
solved on CM-7.1-Pre
tried installing other rom base on CM-7.1-Pre and it work like a charm.
still curious if i have bad sdcard, tried back to previous ROM, and.......... the problem persist there.
so I decide to try dualboot.....
All my sd card mount issues are usually solved with a battery pull

I also have problems with my SD card. I can't partition mine. I more or less bricked mine about a month ago flashing a voodoo kernal, or not voodoo (I can't figure the whole thing out anyway) where it wasn't supposed to be (I think....), and followed Dale V's instructions on unbricking EXACTLY. I've now gone clear back to Eclair 4 times, ODIN'D AND HEIMDAL'D each and every time I've gone back to stock, AND I've used different links to different DL09, DL01, ED01, EB01, ED04, and on, and on, and on...and every time, my SD card partitions perfectly, I think (at least I don't get the E: can't format, file doesn't exist crap when I try to wipe dalvik cache, and only dalvik cache). As soon as I flash 7/17 CM7, the updates, gapps, glitch kernel, I have no partition. I can see the partition with file managers, but there's nothing there.
So, I totally feel your pain.
And while i'm here, why do I have a .apk called FOTAKILL in my files????
Peace!!

CM7.1 pre is an older build, correct? Where can I find it? Am I understanding that you install this one first and upgrade from there, or just leave it at this build? Anything else I should know if I want to try this out?
having the same problem mate my sd card is damage after i flashed miui
when i connected my phone to pc to test the connectivy it also cannot detect my phone btw my phone is sgs19000..and when i ejected the cable it says my sd cad is damaged..i know i safely remove it..but what is the proper way to safely remove it in miui because its a little different compare to stock/other ROms..
me too, but only on miui & 32gb c4 sundisk microsd on stock all normal. On all new kernel when my phone wake up I see this message.
I can't see problem on old kernel - try kernel neo09.
And maybe this help too - multimount app from market.
I recently encountered the issue with data dropping out on my phone, so I Odin'ed it back to stock and took it in to the local VZW store. They played with it for half an hour or so before giving up and shipping me a reconditioned unit.
I'd played with CM7 and OMGB/OMFGB before, but the show stopper bug for me was the phone not reading or even recognizing the SD card. (I have a PNY Class 10 32GB Micro SD card.) This was back in early August, and I remember reading a post somewhere stating that this issue had been laid to rest.
So this week, I gave both CM7 and OMFGB another spin, and damned if I didn't run into the EXACT same problem. I couldn't even get the phone to see my 32GB phone while doing the BML/MTS conversion. It would reboot, then I'd get the 20 second countdown for "Waiting for SD card to mount [20s]" So I had to run the installer from a freshly formatted 16GB card just to get it to see the card and finish the install.
My sequence went something like this:
1) Start from ED05 stock (either fresh from the factory, or via Odin)
2) Install cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar via Odin
3) Boot into recovery, install cm_fascinatemtd_full-56.zip
4) Reboot, let phone boot once into Gingerbread, reboot again into recovery
5) After reboot, install Google Apps
Any suggestions? Am I going to have to reformat this 32GB card to get it working in Gingerbread? I've tried to avoid doing that, since there's about 20GB worth of music and videos that I don't want to re-transfer to it if I don't absolutely have to.
Rom manager does that to me sometimes. Do use it for awhile. Flash manually. But if you want to use Rom manager, go to Tom manager and press menu -> manually flash override -> select OK -> then Fascinate(MTD) -> Then clockwork 3.x.x will probably fix your issue. It fixed mine

Fascinate phones do not recognize 32 GB cards afaik. The card, as I understand, must be no more than 16 GB. If anyone knows differently, please feel free to correct me...
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
I've used 32GB cards in mine for the past six months. No problems out of it, until I tried to run Gingerbread.
The max capacity is 32GB, so it won't take anything larger, but anything larger would be hideously expensive anyway.
im sorry to tell you but your SD card may be fried. EC09 is very notorious for "eating" your card. i know GB is awesome and all for whatever reason the ec09 modem doesnt like your phone so try another rom. MIUI FascinateMTD ate 3 of my sd cards. i suggest finding a rom that doesnt use the ec09 modem. give this a shot:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242747 nice rom and you have the option to not use the modem. also is eh09.

the modem has nothing to do with fried sd cards... its a kernal issue that was supposed to be fixed. Fwiw I run the ec09 modem/radio on every rom I have tried with no fried sd card.

This is correct. Eh 09 with the ec09 modem has given me the best and most stable kernel -radio combo

Can I ask a somewhat stupid and somewhat related question to this post?
I've never Formatted my SD before and I just recently installed a Gingerbread ROM. How safe is it to Format the SD from within the Phone options?

Yeah, I avoided anything running EC09 for just this reason, remembering the warning in GIANT RED LETTERS about EC09 eating SD cards. I actually started out with a SanDisk 32GB card in my phone, and after running into repeated problems with builds of CM7 and OMFGB, I gave up, bought the PNY card for my phone, and moved the SanDisk card over to my Acer Iconia tablet, where (after being reformatted) it has worked without any problems.
The 9/22 glitch is giving me sd card issues.
See here for details.

I'm back to Froyo for the moment because none of the GB ROMs play nicely with my SD card. The worst errors seem to have been fixed, but GB remains very finnicky about cards. It works great for some people but is unusable for others. This, of course, makes it nearly impossible to track down the background issues. I suspect things will remain largely the same until we get an official release. In the meantime, you can try different cards and see if one works for you.

I also use ec09 modem with different roms along with glitch kernel and never had any sd card problem.
I updated my Captivate from Froyo to Gingerbread, via Kies. The SD 32GB card, which has worked without issue for almost a year, no longer mounts after the update.
A friend from work ran into the EXACT same problem with the same setup.
A 16GB card mounts fine. The 32GB card works in other devices, like a camera or on my computer.
A complete wipe and re-install of Gingerbread didn't help.
I've been searching for information on this, and there are complaints about this problem, but so far I haven't seen any solutions or suggestions.
Has anyone seen or run into this?

Yes quite a few folks are having trouble with 32g sd cards...actually any card under a class 6 seems to be hit or miss, but almost all 32gb cards seem to be having trouble with mtd roms.
Damn cm7 ate my sd card. OH WELL, I upgraded from a class 4 to a class 10! And a stable release is the EH03 release, so try that. My sd card is good on that one. I heard somewhere that cm7 had some ec09 code in it, so maybe that's why this happened?

dont think its cm7 solely, it can happen on all mtd roms...and it really has not been pinpointed why some cards bork and others dont. The only conclusive fact is; a class 6 or higher 2,4,6,8, or 16gb sd card seems to be stable on mtd based roms.
I have the exact same problem with my 32gig sd card...Wont work with CWM packaged with MTD roms...really angers me because I really wanted to try JT's ICS rom.

what's MTD?
I just had my OGDroid eat a class 4 32gb brand new sdhc last night. My Christmas present
Project Elite 6.5
I'm afraid to go buy another one and have it happen again. What should I do? It doesn't even mount in Windows anymore.
Samsung Class 2 16GB works fine for CM7/MIUI/Touchwiz/ MTD ICS, SanDisk class 4 32GB only works well with touch wiz / MTD ICS and my Samsung class 10 32GB is the same as my 16 works well with any ROM that's from my experience.

buy a class6 or higher sd card and your issue will be solved.
As I said in my other post:
Sounds like you need a new SD card. Some of the stock cards don't play well with MTD based ROMs. I think it's a speed issue, and MTD based roms assume cards are at least a certain speed. I would probably get a Class 10 microSD card (be careful if you get 32gb, there are known problems with some of them)
I bought http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-microSDHC-Class-Memory-Adapter/dp/B0058GH4U0/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1335980268&sr=8-12 and have had no problems at all after!
thanks everyone for replying...i might have to just upgrade to a different card and see if that will solve the problem.

I just flashed antp's CM9 rom and it gave me a damaged SD card notification. My sd card seems to be working fine. I reformatted on the phone, but it would take ages and not finish at all. I tried reformatting the sd card on my pc but it still gets the message. Does it usually take this long to reformat? What can I do to fix this?
make sure you format correctly. FAT32 I believe. That could be the problem....

you will need to format via a pc. find some down time and transfer all your files off the card and have it to do a full reformat and make sure compression is set to FAT32
Well it didnt work, still get the notification, sd card wasn't having any problems though so I don't know why it says that.
I too took a bad flash.and now my SD says blank or to format..so I did(have a b/u on the computer) and several attemptes I realized its my phone not sd reading proper ..refurb rubbish here I come
I had the same issue on neos aokp. I did a clean reflash and it solved the problem. If that doesn't work flash a sense Rom and reflash back to an asop one. Definitely dont format from phone as it may cause a brick. I bricked a phone testing for chad that way. It said corrupted sd card and since it was going back I figured what the hell.

As the title says--my phone won't detect any SD card! I have 3 which I have tried. A 2gb, 4gb, and 16gb. With each of these, I've formatted them to every option available on my computer (exFAT, FAT32, NTFS), and still no SD card will show up on my phone. The cards do work on my computer. I can transfer data to and from every card.
I guess I should add that I did not try any sd cards in my phone before rooting and installing HyperdriveOTA custom rom, so I don't know if the ROM or rooting is part of the problem.
Any help is very much appreciated.. hope I don't have a faulty phone!

I am having trouble with this as well. Mine actually just unexpectedly unmounted. I reboot to it not being read. I used the phone to format it, si shouldn't be that.
I loaded it into my old DROID incredible and it read just fine. After moving it back it reads again for a few minutes before unmounting again.
It's the stock kernel in my current setup as well so I think the phone or card are messed up. More the phone, may return and wait for the HTC one announcement, and not have to worry about it.
It's a lexar 16gb which worked fine in my old phone and unmounted after a week with stable setup. The contact points are clean as can be as well.

Flashing stock got it back but still not confident what the problem was. Still thinking of trying to get a new unit. Others have not reported the problem enough for me to think it's a rom issue. Add in the delayed response I still think it's hardware related
