Cannot get CWM recovery to work.. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I used Odin and I tried like 3 times and nothing..the phone boots up normal..hold the power+volume up...and CWM won't show on my apps drawer...any other way?

I believe your supposed to hold all 3 buttons to get into cwm...not sure what you mean about app drawer...there won't be an app for cwm.
Edit: power and volume up is for download mode.

Nothing...it just boots up back..

From a powered off state, hold all three buttons till you feel a vibrate and then let go of just the power button. Keeping the volume buttons pressed.
From a powered on state, if rooted go to market grab terminal emulater, type in the commands
su (then a superuser prompt will pop up, allow it)
Reboot recovery
Or with adb installed on your pc and USB debugging enabled on the phone, plug in phone open a command prompt and enter,
cd (the file path to where you have adb installed)
Adb reboot recovery
There are several ways to do it.

the terminal emulation worked..thanks..Don't know why the buttons didn't work...

You need to turn off signatures verification but have you considered re-downloading the file again? sounds most likely a corrupt file.

Do u think flashing Rom which loses root, and then rooting again, might help.
Also i will need Rom to flashable via odin. to loose root.

I would start all over again. Use Odin to install a stock rooted ROM, then use ODIN to install CWM recovery. Once done you can use the finger method, command line via terminal emulator or DL ROM manager/CWM app & use the boot into recovery button.
Or you can use the one button ICS odin leak then use ODIN to install CWM recovery.
there are so many ways you can do this.

Try the adb method of installing cwm...
If you have root and adb installed.

Seems like there is a problem with Md5 file.
Bcoz i had some md5 error when I first tried to install ICS through Odin , also when recovery worked and I tried to flash .zip , it gives error md5 signature was not verified.
And again same error.
What is this md5 file , can it be edited or copy pasted.

Can I get into recovery mode with a faulty home button?

Can I get into recovery mode without a working home button? My i9100 has a faulty home button, phone is stuck on a bootloop will not get pass the samsung logo screen. I can flash the phone in odin with a stock rom and finish with success but still get stuck on bootloop. I think if I can get into recovery to wipe data then the phone will boot all the way. Any help is appreciated. I've searched but have found nothing solid. Thanks!
Buy a usb jig off ebay. plug it in then turn your phone on and it will put it into download mode.

I can get into download mode by pressing and holding volume down + pressing and releasing power but still holding volume down when turning the phone on. But my question is, how do I get into recovery without home button?
Flash a matching Chainfire CF root kernel via Odin (phone in DL mode). This with install his Cwm app. Once rebooted, run app (give su permission), and choose to boot into either clockwork recovery, dl mode, or reboot.
Edit: But once in recovery, how do you plan to actually select anything when the home button doesn't work? ? ?

Oh dear without the home button it's hard to operate the phone. I think you can boot into recovery mode by using ADB, search on the forums or Google.
I would rather you have the home button replaced ot fixed.

how do you plan to "select" anything if the home button doesn't work? ? ? Can't think of any way just yet.

If you have adb setup, and know how to use it;
1. Copy the Custom ROM.zip to your sdcard folder on the phone
2. Rename to "update.zip"
3. Run CMD and navigate to the sdk tool folder where adb.exe is
4. Run "adb reboot recovery" to enter recovery mode
5. Phone to boots into recovery screen
6. "apply: /sdcard/update.zip"
7. After finish, reboot into new ROM
Haven't tried it myself though on the SGS2 ..............
tried it, didn't work..
Lost my Home button after odin flash HELP
I am stuck a i9100 that has no home working home button after i botched my first odin flash. I can not seem to get the device to be recognized by ADB or ODIN now that its messed up. I can boot into the Android Recovery System e3, and i can move up and down in the menu, but the 'home' button i used to select options no longer works. I can not get it to boot out of that menu.
This is a Sprint branded i9100 from the United States... tho when i got it, it was already 'rooted' with Gingerbread-Eg30 however it did not state the firmware version. So after i used ODIN to ref lash it... it rebooted and killed my home key... Now i am not sure what to do. ADB is not finding the device listed and I can't seem to get it to take a rom. Any suggestions?
Prior to flashing this rom in odin i had a working home key which was used as part of the 3 button combo to ender flashing mode or to select an option in the stock recovery menu.
Any help would be great!

I am having the same problem. My I9100's home button doesn't work. I had cyanogenmod 10.1 and cwm recovery installed. Used the button saviour app to operate a virtual home button on screen. Updated to cyanogenmod 10.2. nightly yesterday. All seemed working. Today I found that some apps like Google Play and ROM Manager would crash on when started. So I thought I go back to cyanogenmod 10.1. Started the installation of 10.1 from the "about this phone" settings because ROM Manager crashed and I couldn't boot into recovery from the crashing ROM Manager.
So, I now flashed a stock firmware from samfirmware.com with ODIN (because I can get into download mode with the USB-Jig), but that stock rom stucks in a boot loop.
Any suggestions? I believe, I am stuck in boot loop because I couldn't wipe the phone before flashing. Is there any way to wipe it in download mode?
Or can you be more specific, how to flash a "full wipe rom" and post a link where I can download such a rom?
1. Don't use rom manager on i9100, sure way to screw things up /brick.
2. Get the hardware sorted before you muck around with software. As you have found out, it's easy to get into a situation where you need the hardware to function correctly.
3. Download JB leak (stock firmware) from samfirmware and flash it via Odin. It's a 3 part firmware, and will wipe as it flashes.

Plugging into your computer and typing "adb reboot recovery" should work. Also, I think there are apps on the market that can reboot the phone to recovery.
Do you have the CWM manager app? That also has an option to reboot to recovery.

I soft bricked an LG p506 about a month ago and while looking for a way to do the same thing I found the instructions, a quick google search should put you in the right direction
A sure thing is to boot to download mode with USB jig, then flash a completely new rom with Odin.
OP, I noticed you have a couple posts regarding being on AT&T's network. Are you sure you have an i9100, and not an AT&T variant, which is the SGH-I777? Or if you DO have an i9100, that you didn't flash a firmware meant for the SGH-I777? The most common reason I've seen for a non-functioning home button is flashing the wrong firmware.

There is no such thing as a "soft brick" , Your device is either bricked or it isnt. The term "brick" is used far too loosely nowadays.
In some custom roms you can have a "reboot to recovery" option in the power menu (when you press the home button for 2 seconds or so)
Or, you can download an android terminal emulator and type "reboot recovery" into it (after giving it superuser permissions by typing in "su").
yeah i have an i9100. The problem is i went swimming with it a couple weeks back, and the home button (and mic + earset) doesnt work anymore. I was running checkRom on it and was flashing a mod thru the kitchen app, and now when it boots it says phone has stopped working and won't let me get past that.
So i cant use any soft buttons to get into recovery. I cant use the three button method. and I've tried the adb reboot recovery, wont work.
I can get into download mode though, so is my only option is to flash a rom via odin and hope that fc gets fixed?

Did you try using a terminal emulator on the phone itself? Just "reboot recovery", not "adb reboot recovery". (Remember you have to give the app SU permissions first, if it doesn't request them on its own type in "su" and the do the "reboot recovery" command)
both cwm and rommanager have an option to do this from inside the app, just download one of the apps from market
Lol, it seems nobody want to understand that you cannot boot the phone and use an application from market....
I have the same problem... But I found that you can buy the three buttons, it's about 20€, but you need to open the phone. You found a lot of tutorial on the web to do this.
Hope this help

As your phone is rooted it is very easy to get to recovery. Load Google Play and go to the app store and download "Quick Boot" and install. Run Quick Boot and it will give you an option to reboot the phone to recovery.
Great for stock phones with root.

Do you have cwm installed ? If not you can try: phone powered down , hold vol+ home + power, should bring up message saying something about service center..
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw, remount /system
rm /system/framework/framework-res.apk
exit
adb push /path-to/orginal/framework-res.apk /system/framework
adb reboot
Thanks for the reply. I didn't read about CWM before this happened, otherwise this would be easy. I've held down every button combination at boot that I can think of and get nothing like that. When holding vol- + home + power I get an Android and a progress bar that causes the phone to reboot after no more than 10 seconds. Nothing shows up in the device manager during that time either.

there are two types of cwm recovery, one uses 2nd boot and other recovery partition , if bootloader is locked and phone won't boot you can't use neither and cwm backups are useless

As a young developer I HIGHLY recommend becoming very familiar with ADB, it saved a BUNCH of times on my Galaxy S...its great if you can get the hang of it, all commands are the same for all devices, the help section is sort of sketchy, but with a lot of trial and error, I picked it up nicely

Try connecting in s/w upgrade mode ( holding vol + while inserting usb to phone) it should load some drivers and you should be able to connect in adb. If not connect in every mode possible, to load any drivers(they will still load even though your phone isn't showing any signs of life as long as you have the installed LG drivers previously)

[Q] HELP! I think i hard bricked my S4

Anyone's help would be FANTASTIC!
I downloaded and installed LiquidSmooth 2.6.5 on 06/15/13 wiped everything necessary, went to reboot and it said i wasnt rooted would i like to install SuperSU, i installed it and it rebooted to a black screen and wont go any further. all it does is vibrate every couple of seconds. Is there ANYTHING i can do to get back into TWRP recovery? stock recovery? flash the stock image with Odin? it wont boot into TWRP, or download mode.
Please help, might have bricked my hard earned Verizon S4
Hi,
I've recently just installed the TeamWin Recovery Project.
my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 has been rooted, and I even checked with some application on the Google Play market, and it has indicated that it indeed was rooted.
But I still kept on getting the annoying "some application need attention blah blah blah..." in the notification bar, and when I click it it gave me options reboot now or reboot later.
Of course I clicked "reboot now" and after a while, I messed up on my cyananogen mod I guess and I recovered using TWRP through a back up that I have already made prior to flashing the CM 10.1. And it was working normally.
Then I some how went to the TWRP again and it said that my phone wasn't rooted any longer! So I swiped the "root the device now" knob thing and ever since then it has been stuck in the "samsung" screen with the unlocked labeled as "custom" underneath.
Even if I try to do Volume Up + Power + Home button it doesn't send me back to the TWRP screen, rather I see the indication that TWRP has been initiated, but it just crashes and turns my phone off.
When I do Volume down + Power + Home button I can get to the Download mode, but it doesn't seem like my computer can recognize the device.
After the Download page and I push the Volume Up button for the actual download mode on the top left it says
Odin Mode
Product name: SCH-I545
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
CSB-OEM_Config-LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enable"
Click to collapse
And when I do get to this point my computer does recognize the phone and I know this by hearing the usb connection sound that a computer makes.
How do I get my phone back to factory state so that I can maybe once again trying rooting it again?
Thanks in advance.
and I apologize for so much information even if the rules say that I should be brief as possible, but it felt like the details were needed. (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm having the exact same issue. Just rooted today and then using CWM I formatted and installed liquidsmooth. After rebooting it just vibrates. I tried going into Odin by pressing volume down+up+home+power and it just vibrates. Have I ruined the phone?

I can't get into the download/odin screen. When I press power + home + volume down it just vibrates.
I don't understand how I could have hard-bricked the phone just by formatting.
Just before rebooting, CWM prompted me "saying root access might be lost" and I hit ignore.

Boot phone into ODIN mode (power off the phone, then press and hold Vol Down + Power then press Vol Up). I think you might have done it wrong.

Thanks DarkMenace. I was able to restore my phone. For some weird reason it refused to go in Odin mode if I didn't have a USB cable plugged in.
I used the stock image, just wondering if I'm still rooted?

If you use a Stock Image you lose root and have to do it gain.
What is the fix?

I have the same issue after flashing Liquid-JB-v2.5-OFFICIAL-d2vzw yesterday 6/19/13. Wiped everything, factory reset, hit reboot, it said my device appeared not to be rooted and asked if i would like to install SuperSU. I said yes to install it. When my device rebooted, I got a black screen and my phone won't go any further. It just vibrates, every 2 or 3 seconds. I can get it into download mode. I tried to flash the stock firmware back onto it but when it reboots after, it goes back to black screen and vibrate. Thanks.

Just curious on something.... Not trying to be a jerk. Why are you sending pm's instead of replying in the thread? If your pm is helping this person I'm sure it could help many people if it was in the thread. Unless your a Verizon employee with secret unbricking files or something

Responded to you via PM as to not start any issues here.
I am in a similar situation, I am able to get into Odin mode, though my model number is SCG-I545 if that makes a difference.

How to get a custom recovery to "stick" with Lollipop>

I just got the T-Mobile S5 with 5.1.1 and I want to:
1. Install TWRP.
2. Use TWRP to install the superuser zip file.
The bootloader is unlocked. I assume you need a custom recovery first before you can root the phone, right?
When I install TWRP with Odin it shows it was successful but booting into recovery shows just the stock recovery. There are tutorials that tell me how to deal with this issue but they all require the phone to already be rooted...
So... what do I do?
Uncheck auto reboot, flash, pull cord and battery, put battery back, go straight to recovery.
I actually was able to just run odin . Then while the phone is still plugged in to the computer I simultaneously held down menu and volume up. This made the phone go right into recovery. No battery or cable pull . No need to press the power button either. This worked twice for me.

Yeah I usually leave auto reboot checked and catch the key combo on the reboot. But I like to make people work for it [emoji12]
Got it working with the battery pull. Weird. I don't remember having to do that on previous android versions?
