SwiftKey 3 Beta Free Download! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi everybody, I just posted this for the folks with the international Galaxy Note, and I noticed that you guys didn't have it over here. So I thought I'd do you a favour and share it
TouchType Ltd. have decided to release their latest beta for the ever popular SwiftKey today for free
Seeing as the demand for the beta is hammering their servers, I decided to upload the .apk to my dropbox for everybody to enjoy. Just download and install like you would with any other app
Here's the file: http://db.tt/GHjXdQi7
FYI, this is a FREE, OPEN beta and therefore this is a FREE APP. I understand the rules of xda, and I do not condone or promote pirating in any way!
Sent from my Galaxy Note, using Tapatalk 2 Beta 5!

Thank you very much. Will have to see if this beats out thumb keyboard for me.

Thanks will give it a try!

I've been using it since this morning and it's the first keyboard that has convinced me to leave swype. I love the no space bar functionality!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

so whats new in swype 3 over the old version?

thanks!!

Just tried this out, the no space bar feature is freaking sweet. I think I have a new favorite keyboard possibly. Not to mention how nice the holo theme looks on ics. Although I still really dig the new tablet swype beta with the spen. Hmmm.

Trying it out now. Seems pretty cool but I just got hooked on swype so this touching each key is lame!

I loved swype before too. but I've been using SwiftkeyX for a while. Once it learns your writing style it pretty much writes the sentences for you. So far Swiftkey3 is working out really well

You just keep typing your words and it automatically predicts the words and spacing

I thought I would never leave thumb keyboard but this is a great one. People were not lying after awhile it types for you almost

I've been enjoying it for a few days now. I'm amazed at how well it corrects sloppy typing. I just haul ass and it fixes it for me. I did switch the default of the space bar. It was set to insert the prediction. However, I'm just too used to double hitting the space for a period so I switched it to 'complete the word'
I like to just type and not really look at the prediction.
I was using smart keyboard pro for a long time, then switched to ultra keyboard. One thing I could really use on swiftkey is for the shift key to be 'invisible' while rapid typing. I hardly use it because of autocaps. My problem is sometimes I hit it when going for 'a' so then I miss 'a' and the next letter is caps. So the word 'sand' comes out 'sNd' and autocorrect can't fix it.
I also wonder about autocorrect some times....how can it not correct srr to see?
Anyway, those faults are quite minor compared to the benefits of this keyboard.
One thing I've noticed since getting the Note is that I only type in portrait. Landscape is actually too big now It's hard to reach the middle keys. But portrait is plenty big and I like setting key size to large in the swift key settings.
---------- Post added at 12:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 PM ----------
Does anyone know the logic behind the three suggestions?
It seems different than it was on swiftkey X.
The left suggestion was always the actual letters you were typing.
Now it seems different.
It starts out like that but then if it becomes a known word it goes to the middle and the left becomes another suggestion. If you keep typing, the left once again is the letters you are actually typing.
I guess this has something to do with the new autospace function.

Does anyone know if beta 3 overwrites the one you have installed, or, does it add it to the list of keyboards? I don't want to muck up the swiftkey I have installed now.

Adds to the list.

[Q] Why do all keyboards seem inaccurate on the SGS II?

I've had the SGS II for about three weeks now and have continuous issues with keyboard input accuracy. From the Samsung and stock Android keyboard, to the ICS hacked version (and then the Market version) as well as Swiftkey X - I make mistake after mistake regardless of whichever one I'm using. I'm coming from a Captivate where the text input seemed a non-issue on any keyboard I used. It almost feels like the touch panel/digitizer isn't aligned with where my fingers are touching.
Does anyone else have issues with keyboard accuracy? I love this phone but this issue is really preventing me from enjoying the experience.
I'd highly recommend the ICS keyboard linked later in this thread. Much better than what I initially posted.
Swiftkey X works perfectly fine for me.
I'm using the ported ICS keyboard found on the market and it works very well. There have not been any problems for me at all.
Just installed it and I find myself making the same mistakes as any of the other ones. It's so weird...I've never had this problem on the Captivate and other phones in the past.

Happy camper here
I see a couple ICS keyboards on the Market, can ya provide a link? I'm always up for finding something new although as I mentioned already, I like SKP.
I am using go keyboard from the market with go launcher and I noticed the button( keys) are bigger. But honestly I don't have any issues with my keyboard calibration works fine. I sometimes not a wrong key but that is my fault and not a calibration issue. Possibly you can calibrate your screen? Never have done it but I think it can be done. Maybe a bad phone also?
Sent From My KickAss ATT SGS2 SPORTING CM7
I was able to eliminate this problem by loading the cognition rom. Im not sure exactly why it fixed it but i assume it because it is an international rom that was ported.
im using the swype beta 3.6 doesnt really need to be "accurate" since all you do is "swype" it. but it is fairly accurate for me if i have to type with it.
I'm using the swype keyboard on mine Galaxy S2, I am a new convert from the iPhone and can barely type on this thing. Thank God for swipe. It appears to me that i have to hit the upper portion of the key to make an accurate key press. If I hit it dead on I get the key below it, strange.

ICS keyboard form the market is awesome, fast and extremely accurate. I havent had any more keyboard problems.
I use the newest update of Swype and its definitely not as smooth and accurate as it was on my cappy. I'm On my second sgs2, and have had accuracy issues on both. It's not horrible, just not as good as my cappy. It's the only thing that was better on my cappy compared to this phone, so I'll deal with it.

Yes.. flashing a rom and having no earthly idea why it just magically fixed is quite a solution! Let me jjust drop everything I'm doing, lose all of my time and effort of making my current rom the way i want it so I can flash the rom you are assuming fixed it without any facts or reasoning so I can make you happy.

Yes, it seems like you have to hit the letter you want about 2mm high. At first I thought it was because I was converting over from the iPhone, but two months later I still had problems. I have kind of retrained to hit the buttons on the upper half. I am going to try the ICS keyboard.
And a goodnight too.

Swiftkey X on the MoPho

It appears that many MoPho users love Swiftkey X. I love it too but the one thing it is missing that prevents it from being a perfect 10 in my book is the ability to create custom shortcuts (ie. icub = "I'll call you back", sul = "see you later", etc.).
If you would like to see this feature and others added to Swiftkey, please cast your votes here!
I've used Swiftkey X in the past, and have not liked it. Maybe it's been improved and I'll give it another try. My keyboard of choice is the ICS Keyboard. I love it, and the autocorrect is so accurate!
Swiftkey is good but I completely ditched it when I tried thumb keyboard. I will never use another...

Does thumb keyboard and ICS keyboard support custom shortcuts/ autotext?
I like Swype. But it has given me quite a few text where I need to double take on since I don't proof read ... Let me mind you this is only started happening since using the beta.
Example I dressed as Santa for a friends kids.. Later on that Nite the grand mother asked me to put the suit back on so she and a friend could take a bunch of photos so they could use them for next years post cards...
So my friend Jon shoots me a text the next day saying thanks for dressing up fire the kids.. So I text back that I put the suit back on for some photos.. For post cards but instead of post cards Swype insists I am writing *****...
That took a little explaining.. True story.. Also all of this was written with Swype and not once did it mistake a clearly written post for *****.. Damn Swype and its learning...
^^ One word... WOW! ^^
Since I dropped swift x I haven't had any keyboard lockups... I won't try it again until the next OS release.

Smart Keyboard Pro caused lockups for me and SwiftKey caused lockups for you; I guess picking the right keyboard is really important, huh?
Which keyboard are you currently using and do you like it?
I've been using A.I.Type Keyboard and I really like it. The only problem is it can't keep up with my typing speed and bogs down sometimes. However, no "lockups". Thankfully!
I have used swype (even the new update) and Still can't beat my Swiftkey X, I've tried many and I always go back to Swiftkey X.. Yes I just Love it, it reads my mind, predicts my next word 80% of the time..

Words
I used Swiftkey X on my Evo 4G. Loved it. On my Photon since the screen is a hair smaller I have had a few problems adjusting.
Seriously though. Swift key is fast enough that I can type words. Sentences even.
I have to say I truly hate what is happening to language because of texting.

Keyboard sucks

I can't seem to find a good keyboard for the razr. I have used swift key for a while on my other HTC built phones, but this is my first Motorola phone and the keyboard just can't keep up with me. I have tried every 3rd party keyboard and none of the can keep up with me on the razr but can perfectly fine on the other phones that I have. Im starting to think its the software problem. The stock keyboard keeps up better than any other keyboard but it still can't keep up. When I had an iPhone no matter how fast I typed it kept up (no Im Not a fanboy)
Is there a hack of mod that I can flash to make the keyboard/screen more responsive?
Thanks

I use this one and it's my current favorite -- BUT it has a bug on the RAZR (running stock GB) where I often get the first letter of a word doubled after I go back to correct another mistake. Works really well otherwise -- accurate and super fast.
Example: "Where ate you" and I backspace to change "ate" to "are" and then when I go to type you again I get yyou, It's a bug because the first y isn't underlined and the auto correct only affects the part I actually typed. Very occasionally I get double letters like "yoyou" when you is all I typed. Doesn't happen too often.....
Do you have this issue with it?
Does FC from time to time.... but that just seems to be an issue on the phone itself.
biggest pile of nonsense thread ever
standard keyboards , swype all work tits perfect
and HTC imod keyboard
some people are just useless and they blame the hardware lol
I installed it today, so my experience not really great. But i got zero buggs till now.
I have tried all of those keyboards and yes thumb keyboard is the fastest by far, but it has that really annoying bug for me too, and it still doesnt keep up. I love swiftkey but I only have problems with it keeping up with me on this phone.
Edit:
Apparently Thumb Keyboard hasn't updated his app in the amazon app store in a while. I got it on one of the days that it was free. I just got it for $2.50 on the play store, and switched to the ics theme, and it works amazingly!
Thanks guys
personally I love the stock keyboard that is loaded by default, great coloring, love the predictive words to chose from and its just the right size for my fingers in landscape mode and I have yet to be able to type faster then it can recognize (didn't even know that was possible). If you can out type the buffer you spend WAY to much time on your phone texting.

Per this post I spend way too much time texting, as I can out-type most keyboards. Last night, based on this thread I tried out Thumb KB, and I'm loving it. The dev actually has a 24hr refund policy, which gave me the confidence to try it for two bucks or whatever.
The split portrait KB is a trip.

I am currently using SwiftKey (paid version), and must agree that at times it did have a bit of trouble keeping up.
I ended up fiddling around in setCPU in order to make it feel a bit snappier, and surprisingly it worked! Jury is still out on whether it is a placebo effect or not though.
I've also blocked it from accessing networks using DroidWall (amazing app, everyone should have it), mostly for privacy reasons, but perhaps it also might have an effect.
If you have root, I would recommend playing with the CPU settings and see if it helps. No point abandoning a keyboard you like if there is a potential fix.

Maybe its just me, and I am aware of most of the situations where texting is needed (school, work, church and things like that), but given the choice i would rather spend 30 seconds on a phone call then 5 minutes texting back and forth.
If you don't mind my asking how many texts would you say you send in a day?
I will say the stock keyboard and screen size has me typing faster on a touchscreen then I've ever managed before (2-Archos 5's, an EnV touch and a SGS player 4.0 over the last 5 years) but nowhere near your speed clearly.

Looking back at my logs it seems I send 200-300 texts in a day. When I say that it looks excessive; however most of these are ongoing conversations with friends or family. These are usually times when a phone call is not really warranted, and some people (like my wife with our kids) are really busy and can't always take a phone call.
I agree the razr keyboard and screen are great - I type almost as fast as I used to on my blackberrys.

I think this is the most efficient way to type if you're a tap-to-type person. The word prediction is constantly improving upon more use. The new thing is beta is that you don't need to type "Space" between words which speeds things up nicely.
SwiftKey could certainly use more/better themes, but I keep coming back to it as my daily driver as it's the most reliable (not the quickest though)
Swype would get more use from me if they'd enable the ability to increase the key height. I find it way too short to comfortably type and swipe on the Rezound (it's significantly shorter than SwiftKey, and most other keyboards out there have at least some sort of custom portrait height options...)
I wish they would make a red theme.

ugh, why is it that 3 sucks compared to X?
seriously, every beta build is slow, laggy and just isn't as good. they took features out (the % of the keyboard you need to swipe left to delete a word, for one, which i set REALLY low, now it annoys me...)
and landscape typing? FORGET ABOUT IT. it lags behind like 15 seconds! it's like i'm typing on my god damn Eris. 3 blows compared to X.

I love swiftkey 3. I was using it more than any other keyboard for the longest time but the cursor always going bananas when I tried to move it or use the arrow keys made me start using the htc keyboard, and then ultimately the ics keyboard. They are both red themed.. something I wish swiftkey 3 had. I just installed it to my rezound though. Hopefully they fixed the tweaker cursor bug.

Ok, huge android fan here, been thru several android phones. I find that on this phone, text input is not accurate at all and is quite slow.. No matter what keyboard I use. I never felt like this on anything other android device. Is it just me?
Its my biggest complaint. Text entry i a total pain. I thought maybe its the tapered glass, but the s3 had it too, and I had no issues using the same keyboards.

Swiftkey for the win. I picked up a DNA last night, and to be honest only used the stock keyboard long enough to get my back restored. No issues with Swiftkey on it.
I'll chime in here with Swiftkey also. I have been using that since release and never looked back. So far I am enjoying swiftkey flow even though I was never a swype fan. Flow's word predictions are excellent.
I've been using Swype since it came out and it was one of the first things I installed on my DNA, No problems here at all.
using swiftkey flow/swiftkey, no issues since day 1. you should make sure your not pressing the screen with another part of your hand/fingers as the screen goes right to the edge of the phone, sometimes i find when im watching a video the side of my finger might touch the screen and pause it. You might not be used to a phone with such a small bezel.
Just got my DNA, and I have no trouble typing at all.
you know what? for the last two years, ive swore by the GB/ICS/JB keyboards as they were nice looking and very accurate. To me they suck on this phone, maybe its me, maybe its the screen size, idk, but I will say this, I used swiftkey before and wasnt really a fan,
BUT
i just put it on my DNA and it has solved my woes! Thanks for the input guys.
Silly question, but have you done the touchscreen calibration? Settings -> Language & keyboard -> HTC Sense Input -> Advanced -> Calibration Tool.
Not a single issue for me. Especially coming from a GS3. I can type rather fast on this keyboard lol
