[Q] help with default skins - HTC EVO 3D

want to replace stock (default) skin in a rom with new one...tore apart framework-res.apk, tried to point to default through build.prop for installed apk...they will show up after rom boots as an option but still wont load as default, probably missing something simple, but can someone point it out?

look in the last few pages of the theme help thread linked in my sig. It's a build prop edit, something like "sys.persist.skin=exactnameofskin.apk"

thank you, found that and did it already, but appears something's blocking it, going to read over ALL your stuff though, sure I can locate it in there somewhere, thanks again!
Did some more digging...literally...found the exact name, or so I think, buried in the manifest.xml, added that to the persist.sys.skin line and the colors in the backgrounds are coming up, but no lockring or wallpaper, thinking I'm getting closer but still lost...also wondering how to point at a different default theme...Ie music vs sprint, but have to get through this hurdle first :S

[Q](Sprint) Flip Clock Re-Flip on View

I spend most of my time over on ppcgeeks but can't seem to find a person who knows what I need to do to get this to work.
I've heard on the Vodafone TP roms that the flip clock resets to 0:00 and flips again every time you go to the home tab. Well, I want to see my flip clock flip... Any way for me to make that happen for the Sprint flip clock as well?
Or does anyone know which manila files control the behavior of the clock? I'll go change them myself and learn something in the process, I just don't know where to begin.

Here are my Favs for TF3D. You will find what you are looking for if you search for it. From these links you can learn about Manila... I did anyway.
** I recommend starting here if you want to learn the file system first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414861
The rest are good links to download others work and "inspect" it. What I did is download a clock for example and then decompile the cab to see what files it held. From there i knew that those files represented feature / function X. Pretty simple revers engineering.

Good luck to you.
this occurs on the tmobile one too...
extract the 1c684cd8_manila
from the tmobile theme... and put into another windows directory for your use... might need to change colors, but w/e
I really want this as well. please let me know if I can be of any help and we can get this done. I haven't dealt with manilla files. But, have experience in programming..
Can't wait to accomplish this.
P.S. I noticed that the "Original HTC Black" theme posted here on xda-dev under Diamond - Themes, Application has this behavior that we are looking for. If we can only figure out what exact files do we need from there...
Here is the link for the HTC Black theme thread.

With this theme installed using TF3D Config, I get the desired behavior that you are looking for ( clock flips from 0:00 to current time every time you switch to the home tab. )
If you can install this theme and then figure out what manilla files control this behavior, you/we will be golden. From there, we can just copy those files to an external storage, hard reset the phone and then copy those files over the original rom manilla files.
Here is 1c684cd8_manila from a version of manila that I know does the flip from 00:00 to current whenever returning to the home page. If creedin is correct about which manila file controls that behavior, then this should work. I haven't tried it though so I have no idea if it will actually do anything.
Nope. I just tried over-writing the 1c684cd8_manila file. Did not work. Home tab was completely empty....

yea, that file controls the clock, but the theme maps the home tab, so youd have to copy all the files from a theme with the home tab that flips, then replace all of theme, make sure it works then customize to your theme
I'm using the white flip clock from here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=584746&postcount=59

I don't have the phone with me right now. Can someone please confirm that this white flip clock shows the behavior we are looking for i.e. flips from 0:00 to the current time every time we switch from any other tab to the home tab.

Here is the link for HTC Black Theme that works:

Can't wait to find out what manilla files are needed to be copied to get the desired behavior.
Does anyone here know if this might use more memory??
i changed mine to the regular flip clock and its still smooth
isnt this why Sprint and AT&T chose to go with a nonflip clock?
i just downloaded the theme i'm going to check it out. for some reason i had to rename it from a .theme to .zip so i can see all of the files and look at the code. the regular flip white cab earlier didn't have the effect that we were looking for tho.
the black theme didn't re-flip for me, even after i restored to factory settings
Any progress on this?
Finally found a thread that was working on addressing this issue. Doesn't look like anyone has figured it out yet though :-(
I'm interested, so that I can have my glass clock flip back to 0:00 every time i hit the home button

orignal htc landscape theme?

when u flip up the keyboard on the sprint touch pro it is blue color, does anyone know how to change it or have the manila file to put it to the original htc black theme?
I wanted this myself. search and download the original touch pro theme and install. You should be able to extract the landscape by itself. Although, i only wanted to change the landscape and leave the rest of my custom theme until i seen how pretty the theme is. now i wont switch.
well i am trying to get my phone to look like the orignal touch pro was suppose to look before sprint changed everything. if i take it out can i just add the files in the /windows folder? and to be honest i have no idea what i need to look for lol.
Here ya go
FYI - This one has the landscape. It is the original with the black clock. There is also one with a white clock but i like this better. I had a link to this page that has every default theme: verizon, sprint, att, htc etc....
but im at work and couldnt find it.
******
The file is too big, i cant upload it. Ill come back today when i get home and find that link. I know i saved it to favorites at home. Id RDP in, but i had been messing with my firewall & router for IIS stuff and it isnt opening right now.
Ill get it later. Shame, i have it right here on my phone.
Okay, I googled the name of the file i have and it gave my this link
http://www.myunspace.com/?d=4E8B72FC1
Make sure to scan this file after download, i dont know if its the same place i got it (it may be, just dont remember). Im not trying to freak you out, im sure its fine, i just dont want to be the guy who trashed your phone.

[Q] harder questions on theming

Okay, so i've been playing around with theming for 2 months and i've just about figured it all out, except for one thing.... the VZW banner on the lock screen for the D2 doesnt seem to give two ****s what i put in any of the keyguard .xmls that is supposed to control the layout and keeps on just being white...
im running fission 2.5.7 and i've tried everything that is supposed to do the lockscreen on the xml side (as far as i know) including the colors.xml in the values folder(more on this issue later)... so i started poking around .jar files in the framework but unfortunately i have little understanding still of .smali files because im still on the baby steps side of coding beyond the beginners html stuff i learned in the 6th grade ('99) and i could use some help/pointers toward i should be looking for.
i noticed mentions of wakelock (or something like it, its 2am and im mentally fried right now) in one of the smali files in a telephony folder in framework.jar but im just not sure if it is even close to the right thing because it may just be the phone doing something to the cdma radio on wakeup....
I'm open to try any suggestion you guys are willing to throw at me because finishing this project is important to me.
every guide i have been able to find so far just mentions line 7 and 8 of the .xmls in layout, if you find another idea besides that already posted send those too...
ALSO, when i edit colors.xml and then compile and push framework-res.apk to the phone i get 2 results depending on what i do
1) move the file that values folders gets turned into into the original framework-res.apk and get a boot look
2) use the newly compiled framework-res.apk (in whole) and lose the functionality of lockscreen selection app...
any idea on how to make this work would also be awesome
may end up having to work with the devs in the chatroom on this issue (im sure) but its also somethign i want to do so i can change the text colors of sound on/off (along with a couple other default text colors)

[Q] Rom Cooking Questions

HI guys
I seem to try a lot of roms but would like an easy optioin to go back to my preferred layout. I dont want to use a backup program as I am also learning rom cooking.
OK so what I want to do is take overcome, pack adwlauncher into it AND modify its settings (add icon theme, move front screen icons, add some widgets to the homescreen etc)
I Have been experimenting and not having much luck.
First thing i did was edit the build.prop and modify the density to my liking. Works fine.
I deleted launcher.apk from and added adwlauncher.apk to /system/app.
It boots but no launcher , I assumed it would come up with the default "select program for this action" in first book allowing me to set adwlauncher, but it does not.
So useless to me, no launcher.
How do i do this?
I also assume that there is a better place to put adw so as to allow for updating? Where are market programs stored?
ALSO
How do I change adw's settings to my liking and pre package them?
I assume I can just setup adw how I like, take the config files off my galaxy AND package them into the overcome zip somewhere. Where might they be and where might I need to put them to.
Oh one other thing, adwthemes. These come from market I'm assuming as an apk. If I just add the apk to appropriate place is that enough for adw to see them so that once my config is in place the correct icons will be used.
Thanks very much for any help guys and excuse me if these answers are easy to find, I didnt have much luck with my search terms.
Hopefully one day I will be talented enough to build my own overcome. lol
Oh, for those who dont know, overcome is a rom for our galaxy tabs, forget the references I'm after generic help
I'm not sure, but I believe that putting apps in the /system/app folder makes it more difficult to update them.
I would create a folder called 'data' in your ZIP, with the APK in it. Not sure though, never tested it Perhaps you'll have to modify the update-script too, to make it work, but hey, that's the fun of cooking
I thought so, because that is a protected system folder..
Anyway I half figured this one out. I need to push /data/com.ADWFOLDER with an update script. Re the settings. Unfortunately, I have been told this is impossible..
Can anyone elaborate?
You could possibly try renaming it launcher.apk..

[THEME] [REQ] Google Voice Dark

Anyone have a Dark themed Google Voice? That would go with FunkenEclipse?
Anyone know how to theme this and up for the challenge?
** UPDATE **
Here is a working DarkGrey/Green themed version of GoogleVoice (0.4.2.32) if anyone wants it.
*Thanks to xkape*

** Just put on SD card, boot into recovery, install zip and reboot **
There is a screenshot in xkape's post #16
Okay, So I've been trying everything I can think of, have done alot of reading. Really could use some help here guys. If anyone can give me some pointers I would greatly appreciate it.
I DLed the Google Voice from the Market, put on my computer, unzipped it with 7zip.
Took the res folder (drawable-hdpi), and replaced all the .png files with updated green/black themed ones from that above post.
This is where I get lost. I try to rezip the package, tried it with every kind of compression.
Everytime I go to install it on my phone, it tells me.....
Parse error
There is a problem parsing the package.
Anyone got some pointers?
OK buddy, 1st off, I am assuming by dark voice, you mean black background with white text. If that assumption is true, theres a lot more work to be done than editing images.
However, if you are in fact just trying to change images and are familiar with 7zip, the process is pretty easy. Especially since you already edited your images.
Lets do it this way, since your progression will yield the right results...
grab your completely stock voice that you have.. open it (NOT UNZIP) it with 7zip... find your way to the proper folder(s) and move your edited images into.. yes, while still zipped. Once thats done, close 7zip. it will ask you about updating the archive.. say yes... you're done.
And if you are in fact looking for the black backgrounds with white text.. grab my BNB theme and pull the Voice out if it. Its inverted.

Yeah, Dark themed Google Voice, like in the 1st post. The green one.
I havent thought about the TXT color... crap im not going to be able to read it after i update the PNGs......
One of your themes has a themed Google Voice? I might have to try that.....
Thanks for your help sir.
K, So I ended up pulling your Voice.apk from the BnB theme (which looks awesome btw... dunno how I missed that one)
I like it, but its just black and white. So I opened it with 7zip, go to res/drawable-hdpi and replace the file "widget_inbox_background.9.png"
That is the background for the widget.... only thing I care about..
I let it update the archive and save.
Copy the apk to my SD card and attempt to install it.
Everything looks great it appears to be installing then it gets to the end and says "Application not installed" done
I cannot get past this part..... am i doing something wrong?
bobhilton.... what color do you want it to be? Im willing to bet I can find the color you are looking for.
I mean the whole app, not just that background image. I can make that right in 5 minutes for you.

Really? wow that would rock. I'm just starting to learn this stuff. I've done so much reading and feel like i've came so far. but I'm finding out how much a pain in the arse these .9png files are....
The theme I'm looking for is the Dark greyish/ green one. Its in my first post of this thread. There is a screen shot here
http://www.mpmitchell.com/download/droidx/Apps/GVDA3.jpg
I like those colors.... not a fan of the font but i dont really care. I've tried everything. I found that .9png background widget image but I cannot insert it into your BnB theme
I would love if you could insert it if its not a big deal, you make it sound easy. I'm going on about 4 days of reading and about 10 different programs..... I must be missing something.....
Thanks for you help man.....
wait, you just want the widget?

Yes, I did try flashing them with an update.zip it went with no errors but did not work. But I dont really know if I did it right..... this is a huge learning process for me.... If you can get these to work.... please tell me how.... and it better not take you 5 mins lol
Bob
ok I am downloading it now.. let me see what I can do.

why in the hell did I post a facebook widget?...lol wow.. just realized I did that. And you even told me I did.
Doesn't look all that fantastic with all the rest of my orange theme but.. speaking on the app, I believe this is what you wanted?

Awesome man! Geeez that was fast..... mind giving me a few quick pointers on how you did it?..... You must've used cheat codes or a game genie
Actually, I think you may have just been trying to install it wrong..lol I decompiled it thinking I was going to need to fix some 9pngs but the log said they were all ok. So I just stuck it in an update.zip and installed it..lol
I attached mine if you want to try it.
Wow, I don't get it....
It worked flawlessly.... looks perfect.... you rock man.....
So if you don't mind.... just help me understand this a little....
I went through your flashable zip (Voice.zip) and looked at everything.... It just pushed the apk (Voice.apk) to ssytem/app..... right?
K, so, the Voice.apk that is in your updatezip... system/app/voice.apk
how did you get this to work?
Is this your original inverted voice.apk? and then you just replaced the drawable-hdpi complete folder? or just the updated pngs? and thats it? Thats like the first thing i tried.... for like HOURS....
I just went through the apk.... looks like you just overwrote the pngs and 9pngs with the new gray/green ones.... man... you didnt have to mess with any xmls did you?
That just seems way to easy... I tried that like 10 times
Anyhow... thank you so much for your help man!
If the above is true, shouldn't I be able to do this same process with the new updated googlevoice from the market? and just update the pngs?
Don't know if I want to try it yet, but im really curious where I went wrong so it might be a good challenge...
I think I may of had a bad update.zip... I will try yours next with themed facebook
Theres an new GVoice? I guess I need to get to it.
For this, All I did was take Voice out of the BNB theme and opened it with 7zip. (NOT UNZIP)... then I opened (again, not unzip) you hdpi folder. I highlighted all the images and moved them all at once into the BNB hdpi folder. I then closed 7zip and yes to updating the archive. I stuck Voice.apk into a update.zip template and put it on the SD Card. I rebooted into recovery and installed the zip.
Ive never tried just sticking something in the system folder and hiting install. Not sure that would work.
Maybe just putting the apk in there, making sure the permissions are correct and then just rebooting would seem more like the solid option to me. I mean, technically, if its in your system folder it is installed.
