What should be done before sending to factory to repair?
My phone have some serious problem.
I am using a custom rom and I am a Hong Kong user
Via CWM. Factory reset and format sdcard.
Flash stock firmware for your carrier/region.
Use jig to reset flash counter and triangle.
Should then be how it came out of the box.
Edit: this might help a bit

1. Go into cwm and format everything you can.
2. Flash the rom for your region via odin.
3. When it boots up go into the dialer and type in this code *2767*3855#
Every thing above plus if you don't have a jig, using any ics use triangle away to reset counter and triangle.after that as posts above said
Can anyone link to a guide about restoring my SGS2 to factory settings? I've moved to a Galaxy Nexus and will sell my SGS2 with Envirofone, of the mobile recycling companies.
Much appreciated!
Questions belong in the Q&A section!
Also, the information on how to restore your phone to factory defaults is covered by the user manual and does not require xda-developers.
if you are on a stock rom, unrooted, just go through the settings menu and somewhere in location and security (i believe) you should find what you are looking for. make sure to also format the internal sd card.
For Android ICS
Settings> Backup and Reset > Factory Data reset
Settings> Storage> Erase USB storage
Settings> Storage> Erase SD card
Assuming you have CWM/Recovery installed, format cache, data, system, & internal sd card in Recovery, flash stock rom in Odin then reset flash counter. Done.
If you don't have CWM/Recovery & not rooted, do as Chef Tony said (definitely not an XDA thing if you're not the sort of person who tinkers with the phone/doesn't root or run non-stock firmware).

Sorry I was not clear. I have one of the nightly CM 4.0.4 builds so it will be the former option. Can I reset the flash counter in Odin, and will the Odin flash also remove CWM and reinstall the stock kernel?
Thanks
Can you reset the flash counter in/with Odin ? Um, no
To reset the flash counter, you need Triangle Away if you're running ICS bootloaders, or a jig if you're running the old bootloader. Now that I think of it, if you're running ICS bootloaders, reset the flash counter with Triangle Away first, before you format everything in CWM & before you flash a stock rom as it requires root. Flashing the stock rom in Odin won't affect the flash counter.
Doing all those formats in CWM before you flash the stock rom will remove root (and everything else). When you flash a stock rom in Odin it will include a stock kernel.

Thanks. Didn't know about Triangle Away, great app. Wiped everything in CWM, and then tried to restore two separate 4.0.3 images found here. Both times Odin finished fine, but after reboot the phone doesn't progress past the animated "S". Any ideas?

Go to www.sammobile.com and download a stock firmware and flash through odin.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Boot into recovery & try a factory reset/wipe before you do anything else.

That, gentlemen, did it. Used the Open Europe firmware listed here and the instructions here. Many thanks for the help - off to enjoy JB on the Nexus now.
my phone is a little buggy so i wonder should i flash a new firmware or just factory reset it? if i flash new firmware i should reroot, but if i factory reset my root will stay right?
Stuck with stock after custom recovery was lost due to 4.4.2 ota.
Phone has bad lag from time to time even after factory reset. My question is can I use Odin (or how) to go a step beyond factory rest to try and fix things?
