Unroot Galaxy S II - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
i am a new owner of a Galaxy S II.
I have rooted successfully using the method on this site
Just wondering if I need it repaired under warranty will the XDA unroot method return it to factory standard as it was before rooting, so there is no evidence of rooting?
I have looked at various site but didn't find an answer and I am new to Android and Rooting. I have not attempted unroot yet.
Cheers Bustin
Galaxy S II GTI9100
Android Version: 2.3.6 (Hopefully Ice Cream Sandwich soon)
Carrier (Virgin Australia)

Which method did you use for rooting from which site?
You can use ODIN to flash your current official ROM to Unroot and make stock
See here more about flashing offical ROMs. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

hi
Yes it will return back the same. The only problem is you must reset your download binary counter so that the sammy service center will not know that you change something by installing a custom rom or unsecure kernel. To reset your binary counter you need a usb jig.
---------- Post added at 03:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:42 PM ----------
For me the easiest way to unroot is to flash the original firmware of the device. You can download it @ intratech's posts. Flash it via Odin and your back on stock!

Jig is very much required for counter resetting but if its a problem for you then there is a work around though bit lengthy i.e.
.. Install any ICS through Odin or mobile Odin
.. Then install TriangleAway - u can download from forum. That will reset your binary counter... Remember triangleaway only works on ICS.
.. Install your stock GB ROM thru Odin..
Thats it... Good for warranty claim..
Press thanks if it helps you.

If u r on rooted GB then I recommend to use mobile Odin pro for installing ICS.. Thru that u can keep root while upgrading to ICS and thats really a miracle software and saves you a lot of time and trouble..

Just flash one of these kernels that matches your firmware.
Thx Bro....
me go study 1st how to root
Just rooted my SGS2 using the DooMLORD easy rooting application.
Superb piece of software.
I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 ( Indian ) in a flat 4minutes. I was very nervous in rooting the phone having bricked my Samsung i780 in flashing custom ROM and having sent my Omnia i900 nearly to death flashing a custom ROM .... but then the thrill of rooting and modifying the device got better of me and I did it in a flat record time of 4 minutes.
The option of unrooting is an added benefit.

hi everybody,
has anyone tried this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399. does it works for i9100G?
guys, bare in mind that this guy is using I9100 G .. The G model is not the same like our I9100 ..
can anyone confirm the Doomlord tool is working with I1900 G model ? G . G . G.
To root an I9100G, flash with the rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
In the first post, search for I9100G. There are two version, DZKI1 and ZCKH4. Flash the one matching your firmware. However, only the KH4 one has clockworkmod recovery. The KI1 one only has the standard recovery. If you want clockworkmod with KI1 kernel, you can use my kernel from here:

[Q] Confused with S2 process / keeping warranty

Hi,
First post in this forum but have been on XDA for a while now (galaxy ace/note). Did look for this before posting. My wife has an S2 and it recently updated (via kies) to ICS. Its the UK (H3G) carrier version. Im not new to rooting/roms/flashing etc as have flashed my old galaxy ACE countless times CM7/9 etc.
I understand the S2 has a custom flash counter which could screw up warranty.
She hates this (H3G) ICS as it has quite a load of bugs. (Freezes lots etc) and I was wondering the following:-
1 - Do you need to root the s2 to flash via ODIN?
2 - Will flashing a stock ROM from sammobile increase the flash counter?
3 - If so will triangle away work to get rid?
She is not keen on the warranty being void but will happily go back to GB if I can do it for her.

You can root using odin, flashing anything will increase your counter and Triangle away does work but it can hard brick you phone at the same time.

Cheers for the quick reply. The first question was do you need root for odin? is Triangle away that risky?
A. No.
B. No.
C. No need if not rooted as flashing official firmware package will not increase the counter. An insecure kernel will.
Just follow Intratech's official firmware thread. Has all the instructions you need.

If you want to remove the triangle and reset the counter you can use a jig usb and after flashing the old bootloader

Flashing the stock Rom = No Triangle
I flashed the leaked version of ICS using ODIN and didn't get the flash count triangle, It wasn't until I flashed the edited stock kernel that allows root (without effecting the rest of the phone) That I did.
But using Triangle away got rid of it and I feel the major warning message may be a little overkill as it only took a second and it doesn't even reboot the phone.

[Q] Back to Stock - using CWM ?

Hi ppl,
I'll soon sell my SGS2 to a family member's friend.
He's not fine with CM9, so I'd put back stock (even latest ICS) for him.
Unfortunately, I've no Windows PC (so, no Odin), and also always had problems with Heimdall (on my MAC).
So, I'd like to ask:
is it possible to flash an european (even better, italian) stock ROM, all set (ideally with no triangle, I managed to reset it on CM9 but won't be able to do that on stock once root is gone) directly from my actual CWM recovery ?
MANY thanks
You may be able to with Mobile Odin, i strongly recommend you purchase the Play store (paid) version.
First install and run Triangle Away also by Chainfire to reset flash counter and remove the Yellow Trianlge at boot. Next download your stock firmware and flash with Mobile Odin. Remove the option to Root, install busy box etc.
Read the links in my signature for further information, MAKE SURE YOU READ
Below is the collection of stock deodexed roms from wanamlite
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292825
it come pre rooted , so if you are comfortable with it you can download it and simply flash via cwm

Yes mobile odin or cwm recovery will do the job of flashing a stock rom, & flashing a stock rom this way will not give you a yellow triangle or increase your flash counter! if you want to clear/reset your flash counter before you flash the stock rom, then as already mentioned use Triangle Away app by chainfire for that, but you don't mention your galaxy s2 model or carrier? do you just want an unbranded/unlocked stock rom?..... either way this is where you'll find the latest official stock roms: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1#osa
You'll have to register to download!
Unbranded, as it was in origin.
CWM would be great, but I'm having difficulties in finding a plain, unmodded, not rooted stock to just flash from recovery

First things first - Upgrade your phone to latest firmware using the official way: OTA or Samsung Kies application.
Next go through the infinite posts about rooting - pros and cons; and decide why you want to root. One wrong step and you may end up losing your phone forever.

Do one thing..If you are not able to find the relevant thread directly in the forum use Google. Just type "how to Root galaxy S2+gingerbread 2.3.3" and you would most probably be directed to some thread in XDA itself.
Besides, dont worry, just follow the instructions word to word and you should be fine. Personal experience.

Just update ur phone to ics using kies or ota.
What is the difference between updating GB to ICS and then rooting and
i am having GB and rooting the device??
Can't i just root and then install custom ICS OS??
Like the other guys say, upgrade to ICS and then root - I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
That root method is ridiculously easy.

Rooting on ICS is ridiculously easy as compared to GB. Thats the reason people are asking you to upgrade to ICS and then root.

Two important things for you to consider:-
1.dont upgrage to/flash stock 4.0.4 rom until you install a kernel like siyah etc.
2.dont ask "whats the best rom" questions.

I am in confusion now.
Kernal is a part of ROM right?
If i upgrade to ICS then i will have ICS kernal right?
Can you elaborate point 1?
My mobile current state is having GB...(i can upgrade it to ICS from service centre)
Steps which i think i should be doing
Method 1:
1)Upgrade it to ICS and root the mobile.
Once i get admin rights replace the kernal " siyah"
2)Take backup of current ROM
3)Install custom ROMS
method 2:
1)with current OS GB root the mobile
2)Replace the kernal
3)Backup OS
4)Install custom ROMS
Tell me steps are correct or Provide me the changes and the method which i should go for.
It's simple, root your current firmware by using the siyah GB version. After rooting, install titanium backup and backup every application. Before the titanium backup, install sms backup +, open it and click the backup button. It will now backup all your sms and your call log. You contacts should be synced with google. Now just download the ICS firmware to flash using odin. Flash it. Flash siyah through odin (ICS version). Now install titanium backup and sms backup +. Restore everything. Now you have ICS stock.
Whenever you flash the siyah kernel your phone will be rooted. Be careful not to use siyah GB with ICS and siyah ICS version with GB. They may brick your phone.
We are rooting your gingerbread so that you can backup all your apps using titanium backup which requires root.
That's pretty much it, enjoy your new phone.

First of all thanks for helping this newBee...
1)I m scared of bricking my cell. So i dnt want to take single chance of doing so.
2)I can just upgrade to ICS free of cost from samsung sevice centre.
3)I am not getting a single reason to root the mobile at the cost of ICS..
It would have been the case of installing JB then i would have thought of.
Taking the backup of current GB doesnt make scence ....
What if my cell bricks may i use the backup of GB?
All the advices are welcome.
Thanks in advance..
Watever you do, don't upgrade to ICS v4.0.4. You can hard brick your device. 4.0.3 is fine. Very fine!

Why don't you just update over-the-air? (I should have said this before the long post ) If you just want just ICS without root then go to settings, about phone, software update and update from there. 100% safe and you won't lose anything, all your apps and eveything will remain as it was.
After that IF someday you wish to root the phone for some AWESOME reason. Just flash Siyah Kernel. (ICS Version).
thanks

[Q] New to Rooting!! i need some answers

Hi..xda developers i have an GT-I9300 JellyBean Samsung Galaxy S3 bought just 2 months back ...and i am interested in rooting... i know what rooting gives to access. But I have some general questions.
Q1: I like S Voice and the apps that are provided by samsung like remote controls and pop play etc..will the root firmware have also this applications.
Q2: My os is currently official Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and I heard that samsung is pushing JB4.1.2 to s3. CAN I USE SOFTWARE UPDATE ON MY my phone to download them?
Q3: if once rooted ...can i get back my offcial JB 4.1.1 back to my phone by any means that could be also downloading from the internet and den flashing it.
Q4: rooting voids warranty...but if i am able restore original firmware by flashing...will it still void my warranty the next time I go to service center...
Q5: what does rooting exactly do...other than super user access.
If possible please provide me firmware links of jelly bean 4.1.1.
A1: If samsung rom, yes
A2: No, but there are 4.1.2 Roms so you can do it yourself
A3: Unroot guides
A4: Yes, there is a flash counter inside your phone
A5: The possibility to flash custom software and write acces to all your phone
To Q4,
rooting voids warranty and leaves a flash counter just like ritchie46 answered
But you can use the app,Triangle Away to reset the flash counter and i think that would restore the warranty
Btw, why search for 4.1.1, you cam download stock 4.1.2 rom Sammobile and flash via Odin

I have a related question too.
I understand that root gives more control and i can then use apps like Titanium Backup, Adaway and some great security apps, but I am not quite sure what it means to the OS/formware. I.e. i needed to do a fw update and had to unroot my S3.
I installed a stock rom, rest the counter, etc. But now my S3 is not rooted.
If i re do the root, will i be putting it back to the old fw, or are there specific root for each rom, or does it not matter?
This is a silly question, i know, but i am not a sw guy so i am not quite sure what i am doing to my device, just know how to follow instructions and understand the benefits...
Cheers
Jonners
Root has nothing to do with firmware. You can just flash any official firmware, and you'll be on stock. Rooting just gives you the root user privileges, and leaves everything else intact. So you'd be on same fw.

Root has nothing to do with firmware. You can just flash any official firmware, and you'll be on stock. Rooting just gives you the root user privileges, and leaves everything else intact. So you'd be on same fw.

Hey guys i bought my sgs3 just a few days ago and I allready hate the stock firmware
I just want to check if there is a way to restore the phone completely to original (incl. flash counter) after rooting/tipping the flash counter

Yes you can. Triangle away unroots and reseta flash counter. Full wipe from recovery after flashing official firmware through odin will bring your phone to original state.
