Warning! Super noob question:
I was just wondering if my stock ROM can be over clocked. I have SetCPU but it appears that the max values have Lready been set as high as they will go (1500 mhz). If I want to go higher do I need a custom ROM or kernel? I just rooted my Note and I've never done this before. Honestly I don't have much of a clue as to what I'm doing lol.

U need a custom kernel just flash one that is compatible

You can do it on the stock ROM, you just need an OC kernal. So you can either flash the kernal through Odin, or flash CWM, then flash the kernal.
Sweet. Thanks guys. I got tired of trying to mess with the over clocking and just flashed the ICS ROM over. Its buggy.. but I suppose it will do until the legit one comes out.

I want to try KAOS' Gingerbread ROM but need a VooDoo Kernel. Just curious if a VooDoo Kernel will work with the stock EDO1 ROM and if so what is going to be the best Kernel? Thanks!
Nevermind

Flash jt's gingerbread cm7. It's WAY less buggy and you don't need a voodoo kernel to flash it. Jt's rom mounts both rfs (non-voodoo) and ext4 (voodoo). So you're good to flash it from stock or a voodoo converted custom rom. Just wipe EVERYTHING first!

Thanks for the fast response. One last question, where can I find these kernels at? I looked but not sure what's what. Thanks again.

Nitsuj17 has a sticky in the development section. All the kernels (with the exception of otb 1.5 for tw and gb) are listed there.

Is it possible to remove a kernel such as glitch or Bali without reflashing rom?

You could find out what the kernel the rom you flashed came with and search in development for it inside the bible. Download it and flash in clockwork. Think you wipe davlik and fix permissions after flash. you can flash new kernels on top of old ones won't change your rom.

Use sgs kernel flasher from the market. Back up your current kernel and flash whatever one you want. Just make sure its compatible with your rom and you should be good to go. Only takes 2min and you'll be done. Good luck!

It doesn't hurt but I never did. Just flash the kernel and let your phone reboot.

U can get cm for s3 from cyanogenmode.com . To flash cm u need a rooted s3 with clock work mode . Download the rom n paste it in the phone . Then go to recovery mode wipe factory data then wipe daviks catch and after that select the file from the phone in install it.. !! U are done..!!

You don't need to be on CM to overclock it and I seriously advise doing some reading, since the nature of your question indicates either a reluctance to read or a low knowledge base, in either case, messing with o/c is inadvisable until you fully understand the process/risks /problems you may encounter.
Start by looking at the kernel threads
listen to that advise..no need to (soft)brick your phone by not knowing what u are doing..
u will end up making a new thread, asking how to repair your phone from a bootloop
It is a matter of kernel capable of overclocking, not ROM

No u dont need to change ROM to do so....it is the KERNEL that manages your cpu (through "governors" or profiles) and sets its frequencies, it will not change in any way your rom's functionality(except if you mod performance...)...
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING, I ADVISE YOU GATHER SOME INFO OFF THE WEB ABOUT OVERCLOCKING, KERNELS, ROMS, AND RECOVERIES, THEN U CAN FOLLOW MY 'INSTRUCTIONS':
For overclocking i recommend flashing through clockworkmod(a kind of recovery easily installed by downloading of the play store and using rom manager) the siyah kernel for galaxy s3.
I will although remember u that the internation s3 cpu (dont know about the usa version) has ALREADY been overclocked (from 1.2 to 1.4ghz i think, but im not sure) and overclocking it even more will result in possibly/likely faster battery drainage(i have 2800mah battery in fact).
I also advise not to overclock it above 1600mhz...cpu master app is great for this, but extweaks(app for tweaking siyah kernel) can do this as well.

I realised why none of the roms would work without flashing stock kernel cuz I deleted my stock backup that had my stock kernel this is the only thing that makes sense but I may be wrong the roms prolly come with the stock kernel If I'm right is it possible I can get the stock kernel?

I hear that some kernals are better than others and I assumed they change when you change your ROM but I'm not sure. I feel like I would have better battery life with a better kernel.

No, changing your ROM doesnt always result in changed kernel. Also depends on Stock or Custom ROM. Stock Rom flashed with Odin will probably change your kernel to the one provided in the ROM package, but if you install custom ROMs through recovery then your kernel will not change.
