[Q] Unable to enter recovery after installing CWM - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I tried to not start a new thread but ... I'm at a loss so here's the sitch..
I rooted, unlocked, and installed CWM using ViperMOD tool here
I got successful on upon running the program. Confirmed root, proceeded to unlock and install CWM. Like I said, the messages informed me of no errors and got successful. HOWEVER, when I power off the prime and attempt to button combo into recovery, the phone just boots up. I don't see text to even press the volume up button.. the only text I see is the asus kernel splash and boot ani..
I then went to RM and tried to flash CWM that way.. again i got successful but button combo's aren't working or I'm just not getting it right.. (thought, you should know I tried bout every damn combo I could think of, AFTER reading an trying what is suggested.) So then I tried rebooting into recovery via RM.. phone just reboots. I then tried installing touch recovery via RM.. got successful but again, no way to boot into recovery.
According to RM my current recovery is 5.8.x.x
I read another way to install CWM via BLOB, but I've also read installing anything BLOB after installing CWM will lead to a brick. Obviously I'm trying to avoid that. For the love Android, if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be really happy. Thank you!
*EDIT****UPDATE**
This is a little confusing as i just watched yet another how-to vid.. and this one showed booting into recovery from power on .. and I don't believe it but it worked. Finally saw the 3 text lines at the top when Asus spash showed up. I powered off the Prime and tried again.. no problems whatsoever.
I'm sorry for starting a new thread.. believe me, I started searching yesterday and gave up at 11:30 last night.. started my quest again this morning and no dice so I started a new thread. Again.. Jerdog, I'm sorry man. Ugh.. feeling pretty bad about this thread now. If it can be deleted, please do. Otherwise close.. :-\

Thanks dude.. Yeah, this was a stumper for me. As I did the button combo right, and maybe just maybe I let go too soon when seeing the asus screen, but I can tell you I tried endlessly last night and never saw the little text in the top left corner. Just watched zedo's vid and he started from power on.. so I tried, and it worked. Now i see the little text everytime I button combo..
Oh well.. really glad I got it figured out.. and thank you so much for the reply and help. Really!

I must have NVFlashed my TF101 100x cause i thought CWM didnt do on because i use quickboot and it didnt go to recovery and i didnt know how to get it there but then i figured it out, so since my prime is the same its GRAVY, at least you got it now!!!

food for thought: i have flashed my sgs and my maguro countless times both combined, and i never ever encountered such an error. Either adb reboot recovery, native rom option or if neither are available, button combo.
/offtopic: i'm eager to see what nvflash can do. definately more powerful than fastboot

Can't boot into recovery

Just received a replacement Vibrant and can not boot into recovery through the power/volume up/down method, has something changed?
To get into recovery mode you need to hold Volume Down and Power Button.
I have booted into recovery many times with my original Vibrant, my replacement will not boot.
Um, the OP explicitly said that they can't get into recovery with volup+voldn+power, on a replacement phone. Replacement=more likely they know how to do it that I do, but I just received a new Vibrant from T-Mo-USA today and I cannot get it into recovery either.
VolUp+VolDn held, power until 'vibrant samsung' then release power is supposed to be recovery, but not working for me. Just VolDn or just VolUp and power only boots the phone as well. Waiting with power held until screen goes black again then 'vibrant samsung' returns is also ineffective. I can get to download mode with vol buts while plugging USB, and I've double-checked that both vol buts are working. It /is/ possible that a change took place and recovery is no longer accessible through that key combo...
Shiny new handset, never yet had a SIM inserted. (Trying to get clockwork recovery running to do nandroid backup before setting up first time) (adb gives me a permission error, going to research that now)

Quick Boot specifically states that you must ALREADY have root status for it to work.
So we need Root for Quick Boot to get into Recovery Mode, but we need to first get into Recovery Mode to get Root...
Ring around the rosy...
Anybody else have any ideas?
^ he didn't say he didn't have root already. I also posted an alternate method to root above without stock recovery.
Have either of you found a way to recovery with key combos yet. I too can not get recovery with vol buttons. Only thru terminal, adb, rom manager, etc. i'd really like to know if anyones found a solution to this??? I'd like to be able to boot recovery manually in case I cant boot into home screen for some reason.
Someone mentioned getting it to work while having it plugged into the charger.
Frankly, the only way I was able to get into Recovery Mode was through the ADB method.

I called T-Mobile regarding this and they agree it should work with hardware buttons and are sending me a replacement.
Same issue. Got the phone on Aug 23 and the only way I can go to recovery is via ADB and ClockWorkMod
Hmmm, I have the same issue. The funny thing is that I can get into recovery on my girl's phone just fine. And I can't on mine. They only way I could get into recovery was by using the 1-click root. Now, I can use ROM Manager to get into recovery while "on-the-go". At first, I was honestly afraid that maybe my phone came without the recovery installed!
I know it gets frustrating listening to the stupid T-Mobile jingle taunting you every time it fails.
I guess it's not a big enough deal to me to send it back now that I have a couple of options, but it seems like it's a more common issue than I thought. Only way to get Samsung to do something is to keep sending them back . . .
Its important to be able to get recovery with the buttons tho. What if your flashing roms or anythimg for that matter and the phone wont boot regularly. Then you cant get into recovery to restore. Called tmobile and Im sending mine back tomorrow for replacement, unless somebody knows another way to get into recovery if you end up in a boot loop???
My friend just got his Vibrant, I went to root it for him and wont go into recovery. Mine works fine,I can get into recovery fine on mine everytime. I told him to return it and swap it out. Getting into recovery is very important if you flash a rom and you run into booting issues.

I really suspect what we're seeing isn't a defect per se, but the result of a suit at t-mo being told that people are using recovery mode for rooting their phones and restoring things like wifi tethering, who responded "then disable recovery mode dammit"...
If you return a Vibrant that won't go into recovery from buttons and actually get a new-in-the-box vibrant in its place, I suspect there's a very high probability that the replacement is the same, and if you get a replacement that WILL enter recovery from buttons I suspect it's likely to be an open box or what-have-you. For the latter, as more Vibrants are returned for not entering recovery, you're more and more likely to end up with a 'like-new' replacement that won't enter recovery either.
Long-term I suspect the solution is going to have to come from us, not t-mobile.

I can not boot into recovery this is also a replacement phone. I installed vibrant7 didn't care for it so did a rom manager recovery back to stock and my phone is stuck on the vibrant start screen. Can anyone help me fix my brick?
it doesn't work on my Vibrant, tried Volume Up/Power,Volume Down/Power, no luck....

[Q] Stock Recovery Question

I was wondering if there was a way of going back to the stock recovery from CWM? I have rooted my prime and unlocked the boot loader. Was wondering if I needed to return the tab if someone noticed CWM that they may give me a problem returning.
if you mean returning to a store, they will never check the recovery, probably would only check that it boots at all if even that

Ok, thanks
Wrong actually. Use the method to downgrade to any of the Asus releases - using dd on the blob file, that overwrites the recovery with the stock one
I have to do this when going back to stock from CM9 since the kernel doesn't flash. I have to re-root and re-flash CWM each time since the blob method overwrites system, boot, recovery, and maybe one or two other things

I am not sure of the full ramifications of doing the blob thing over anything other than the stock rom. You will want to find the thread in the dev section that talks about loading any version of the stock rom that you want.
i believe applying a official blob file after being unlocked/cwm'ed will get you a bricked Prime. i hope none of you have a brick these days.
Hey guys.. I'm trying not to start a new thread if I can help it as I'm sure my answer is here somewhere.. but ...
Can't seem to boot into recovery. I installed CWM using the viper tool and got successful messages but button combo doesn't work to enter recovery. Nor does Rom Manager work to reboot recovery. I've also tried flashing recovery via RM and got successful but still unable to boot into CWM. Tried installing touch recovery via RM.. got succesfull, and it even says what my current recovery is but no matter what I try I am unable to boot into CWM.
I feel like its not installed but according to RM my current recovery is 5.8.x.x
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I had a lot of problems when I was on the non-touch version of CWM. It would do the button combo correctly but it would only boot to recovery about one time in five. Very frustrating, but it got a lot better when I chanced to touch CWM for some reason.
Gotta ask this but are you doing the button combo correctly? When you press power + vol down do you see the white text telling you that you have bot 5 sec to press vol up? When you press vol up, what happens? When I was having problems with this I would see the white text, press vol up then the screen would go black for about 10 sec then it would reboot.

That's part of the problem.. I have no idea if I'm doing the button combo right because nothing is happening. I've tried pressing power button and vol down until I see text.. never shows though. I feel a buzz or vibrate but no text so i continue holding down buttons until eventually i realize I've been holding the buttons down for a really long time and it's time to accept its not working so I let go. Ive also tried just pressing volume down..(thought I read that somewhere).. nothing ever happens but a buzz or vibrate. No text ever appear.
btw, thank you for the reply! you have no idea how many times I tried yesterday/last night. I'm up an atom, and back at it.. beats me though..

Unfortunately I don't have my Prime in front of me since I am at work so I'll see if I can remember . From power off press the power button until it vibrates, release it then quickly press and hold power and vol down. When you are on the Eee Pad splash screen you should some text at the top left saying that you have 5 sec to press vol up to enter RCK (or something...). Release and press vol up and you should be in.
Hit my thanks button if it works. If not, this is beyond my limited capabilities and you should find someone more knowledgeable Good luck!

[Q] Atrix Unrecoverable Soft Brick

I'm just going to get straight to the problem here: my Atrix won't boot because something went wrong with a ROM I was trying to install. I was using the package from here Project kitchen sink, and selected aokp. I have Clockwork Recovery 5.8.1.8, so it boots into recovery.
The problem is that my volume rocker is broken, I *think* because of pds, so I cannot navigate the menu. I have tried using RSDLite and Fastboot, hoping that I could work through the recovery boot menu, but it's useless. And since my volume keys refuse to work, I can't set the phone to boot into RSD mode. I'm stuck in an endless loop of not-able-to-do-jack-****, and I don't think I'll be able to send it in to Moto for a replacement.
I don't know if the failure is due to a hardware issue (my Atrix was shipped to me from my family, since I live in Puerto Rico), the CM7 ROM I had before, or a recent crash (the battery was also giving me problems, and lately crashed the phone several times, not turning on unless I pulled it.)

PDS does not affect volume buttons.
And what happens when you boot? Boot loop is not very specific...
I read a post on here that said it did...
And what happens is that it boots once, stays on the Moto logo, then blacks out, boots again and goes into recovery. Since I have no way to do anything, I press the power button and it goes again.
What I need is either
1) A way to work with RSD through the recovery, or
2) A way to work with ADB through recovery, or
3) Someone to just tell it to me straight: I'm f*cked and I need to send it in to Moto (Which I doubt they would take it.)

I would tell you to flash touch recovery however I don't think you can and how it would help you recover from this situation.
Sent from my MB860 running Jokersax's CM9
The weird thing is that I had flashed touch recovery before I started with kitchen sink, and it fixed the touch problems I was having there, but now the touch doesn't work. I downloaded it from the clockwork website, because I don't want to pay for something that is available for free, and I flashed it in fastboot.
Now I have Clockwork Recovery 1.8, which should be touch, no?

You mean 5.8.1.8? If so then yes. And if touch is not working in touch recovery then it does sorta confirm you need the PDS fix...
We are finally getting somewhere: yes, it is 5.8.1.8, touch doesn't work. I know I need the PDS fix, and I applied it. Twice. I patched in fastboot before I started with kitchen sink, and I thought it had worked, since the Aroma installer was touch-enabled after I patched. But now the recovery menu is not working. I tried pressing the search key, like with the Aroma installer, but I knew it wouldn't have any effect.

Can you point me to the thread where it says volumer rocker is linked to pds because i searched and cant find it.
How are you booting...i mean with what key combination? Im assuming your booting normally(only power button) and end up going into recovery. Try booting with power button and volume down.
Sorry I'm not quoting anybody, first off.
Second, I can't find the link. I spent around an hour searching and found it through duckduckgo, but now I can't remember the search term I used. If I find it, I'll post it.
And yes, I'm booting only with power button, because the volume down key isn't working. That is where the pds problem comes in: I can't use the volume down or up key because the keys don't work.
My friend told me that I could use adb to manually boot it into fastboot mode. That works fine, but I don't know how to flash anything other than the recovery/pds partitions. I know fastboot has a "flashall" command, but I don't know how to use that or if it is even going to help. **Essentially** I can boot into fastboot mode, but I want to know if it is even possible to just flash a rom through that. Messy, of course, but if I can just get even a basic ROM working, I can go on from there.
I think you have 2 options:
1. if you can get to fastboot you can reflash everything using uncle cemka's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501532
you basically take an .sbf unpack it and flash each part separately.
2. buy a atrix audio jack/camera flex cable from ebay and install it yourself, be especially careful when installing because the very small flex/ribbon that goes to your volume buttons stress fractures very easily if bent very much when installing, hence your volume buttons stop working.
I'm using cemka's method now. I'm waiting for the stock ROM to download, the one from his post. When I finish the whole process, I'll let you guys know how it worked out.
UPDATE: Thank you to whoever referred me to uncle cemka's method, I was able to use it to flash stock ROM. I have functionality back, can boot, and won't waste around $90 on a paperweight.
However, the first problem is still there: The volume keys still don't work. I still need to fix those before everything is %100 percent, so this issue is still open... Sorry guys

Help unbrick TFP (looks like opt 3) please

Hello,
about 2 hours ago I decided that I would unlock my device (before that I read maximum informations that I could). Unlocking went fine and I also installed TWRP 2.1.3 (through ViperMod). So far so good.
Then I made backup in TWRP in case something goes wrong. I was going to try AOKP v40 so I downloaded it via goo manager and then I flashed it in TWRP Install option (and also installed gapps) and wiped cache. Device rebooted and I was stuck at AOKP boot animation for about 15 minutes when I decided to recover back. So I rebooted, restored and rebooted.
Now I'm stuck at first boot logo (eee pad). When I try to do VolDown+Power to get into recovery it doesn't ask for VolUp, but goes straight to selection of Wipe or USB. When I select fastboot or wait 10 secs device frozes. (I haven't tried wipe, just in case it would be needed to unbrick).
I read thread about unbricking (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514088) and to me it seems like option 3, but I don't see recovery option.
In device manager I have 'ASUS Fastboot Interface'.
Here's video how it looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BGd1PIVbn8
Please please could anyone help me?
Btw: Is there any chance to shut down? Holding power button just resets, so does pinhole... :/

Shouldn't it be volume and power down to get to the option to press volume up for recovery?
Are you familiar with fastboot flashing recoveries? Either way that will be helpful info for us to have.
Most important thing, this is no big deal at all, it's really a minor issue. Don't let yourself get stressed out over it, the community will make sure you're good to go.

Nope, this is my first time flashing.
You say you dont see the VOL_UP message. From the video it looks like it is there. You just did not press it within 5 seconds.
Once it comes up, let go of the buttons ;p

nope it's not there. I was holding voldown from the start and as soon as it should say 'press volup for recovery' (time 0:04) it jumps (skips 5 seconds of waiting) directly to wipe/fastboot options (wipe is one that is selected on video)
Ok so I managed to fix my problem thanks to hanzo001's thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662158). Someone should add this instructions to the [HOW-TO] Unbrick your Transformer Prime (or not) thread.

[Q] Brick... i think... its weird

Ok I have looked around quite a bit, and most of the information I've read is quite dated...
All of the stories are different from mine, but some match up in certain areas, and they all look not very bright
Here is my situation:
I had the latest stock rom (As of Jan. 2013) on my TF201
"Cool im gonna root this mother"
Get the unlock tool for JB devices or whatever, it doesnt do anything but unlock. no brick, no root, nothing tried.
I forget to root it for awhile, so it went through heavy use, many reboots, etc. it is acting normal
"Oh yes, rooting" i recall my want to root
So... i hit up fastboot with this: www . clockworkmod . com / rommanager (the 5.8.3.4)
fastboot devices
(whatever in god's holy name the serial number was came up
fastboot flash (some hex here) blah blah blah then i pointed to the recovery
it went through fine on the Asus side, showing up all good and such
i reboot it with the fastboot (with the hex) reboot command
i boot while holding power, vol-down and this is when it gets creepy...
IT COMES UP AND I PRESS RCK with the volume up... and it FREEZES
so im like... ****
i reboot normally, and it goes to android all fine and dandy so im happy! yay!
i try again with the RCK thing and it freezes again.. so im just like **** it, and i go back to just using the tablet normally.
well i ended up wanting to factory reset it, so i went into settings and found the factory reset thing and pressed yes, its cool, seriously do it, etc.
it freezes again at the beginning... i left it there for like 2 hours on the charger... still frozen with the RCK statically highlighted.
i reboot... and BAM nothing..
i cant press vol-down and power to even get to the bootloader menu anymore.
damn it
so... my question is, with this crappy information ive given you... is this fixable? i did not NVFlash before, so none of those files are here.
I CAN get into APX mode (i think)... Black screen from the vol-up/power combo?
I have mac os x on MBP... boot camp installed, win 7 on that.
please help me :crying:

It is written all over this forum that installing CWM onto the jellybean bootloader will hard brick your device.
I reported it to the creator of CWM and Rom Manager months ago but unfortunately he never replied or did anything about it.
If you cannot access fastboot then I'm sorry but you are hard bricked and will have to have the motherboard replaced by Asus at a cost of about 200 dollars.
