Ok, so after two weeks of ownership, I have noticed a slight flaw with the Note. While using S-Memo, I am constantly touching the capacitive buttons, causing the phine to exit to the home screen. It's nearly nearly impossible to avoid this issue, because my hand naturally lays on the screen while writing or sketching. I fond this quite annoying. Unfortunately, I have no programming skills, otherwise, Id create a utility that would disable the capacitive buttons when using the s-pen, or any app designed for writing or drawing.
Other than that, the Galaxy Note is without a doubt, the top banana of cell phones. I absolutely love this phone, and haven't put it down since I got it.

not to be mean, but i think you may have a unique style of writing there. I personally lay my elbow or forearm on the table and my hand is actually off the paper/phone. how do you even write with your hand on the note?
Well, I would think it would be an easy mod to disable the Galaxy Note capacitive buttons and enable the on screen ones in ICS. Then it would make navigation with the spen even easier. In fact, I might try this right now.
if you wrote with your wrist off the table/paper/pad, your arm's gonna get tired. Standard is the side of your hand/palm resting on the surface.
That said, when using the s-pen, I tend to cradle the phone in one hand while writing with the other (and not laying the phone on a surface).

It is, you're right, but most of the Samsung apps don't play nicely with the navigation buttons.

That wasn't mean at all. Not sure if my writing style is unique. I've always reated the side of my hand on any surface I'm writing or drawing on. I've tried "levetating" my hand above the Note, but I find it incredibly difficult to write in that position.

No problems here. Have you considered using it in a different orientation? Landscape or reverse landscape?
My hand is usually to the side of the screen, not near the buttons.

I have. I've tried every position possible, without performing contortion. My hand naturally finds its way to a natural writing position. Grrr

In all honesty, I've *never* hit a capacitive button while writing with the S-Pen on the note. Standing or sitting. You must write like a gorilla.

You must have elf hands.
In the stock video player you can lock the capacitive buttons by pressing volume up + power. maybe there's a similar solution in other apps?

It needs notifications of when it's your turn; but yes, I'm able to do so much more with the S pen.
Yup, I agree with both of you.
iPhone users are puzzled on how I can draw it like that.
On the other hand, this really needs notification so bad.
I am loving this game, and the Note makes it that much more phone. I've been looking for the right app to force me to really take advantage of the s-pen, and this is it.
I've attached a couple of my drawings (button tap and hold screenshots FTW)... I'm not even a mediocre artist, but these were fun.

For the first time today I had an issue with the game. The S pen wouldn't register on about 1/6 of the screen. I couldn't draw anything there except with my finger. Happened in two straight games. Exited and went to the s memo app and it worked fine. Anyone ever have this happen to them?

When I'm trying to draw or write on my note, when I go to use it, it draws when i get within two inches or so of the screen....
So my regular, non-cursive, writing looks like crap. Bad.
How can I turn that functionality off, or turn sensitivity down?
***Tap the S-Pen on something hard, and see if there is a difference. Took me three tries.
I'm pretty sure that is not a feature, and is a defect either in the software or unfortunately the hardware. You might need a new S Pen to fix the problem the right way.
There's a youtube video out there on how to "fix" this issue, but what it really does is reduce the sensitivity of the pen to the screen and you probably lose some serious pressure levels when applying this fix. Sorry no link, but I would advise trying your S Pen on the verizon floor model and see if it does the same thing to that one. Then you can feel fairly certain you need a replacement pen.

I was thinking the same thing... if the pen is dropped and the tip is pushed back in to the pressure sensor then it would be 'active' all the time and the hover feature would be interrupted by the phone like touching the screen. A flat tip would be a good indication of that being the case.

I've read that this happens when you use your finger to touch the s-pen tip/point.
I had the same problem on my s-pen too. But yea, the tapping on a hard surface seems to work.

check to see if the tip of the s pen is pressed in as it would be if you were touching the screen. It is a physical button that pushes in while writing.

I've noticed on custom ROMs s-pen is useless far to sensitive maybe this will help. Going to test when i get home and report back. I prefer the tweaking method with screw driver.
Didn't notice any difference.
Really wish there was a way to calibrate the pen more than anything. I'm left handed and the cursor and accuracy of the tip is off making selections very hard. My tablet PC that uses a Wacom digitizer can be calibrated...don't understand why the Note can't have the same thing.
I use blackstar and novena and they both have a setting for lefties. Basically switches the point to the right side.

I know they can change with the apps which is cool and all but id much rather have the extra real estate that comes with capacitive ones. Plus, if an app freezes with onscreen buttons then you have no choice but to reboot the phone

Honestly, 6 in one, half dozen in the other.
My tablet has the soft keys and I really don't notice the difference as far as performance.
I think on some of the other device's where you see them all the time it can take away from the look, but on this phone they disappear so nicely when not in use I actually prefer them to the soft keys

This. At least if you have hardware buttons, you also have the option for the on screen buttons. Not true the other way around. Plus, the way ours disappear so nicely like they aren't even there.
I think this thread really puts the real estate issue in perspective:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2035842
Look at how much more visible screen we have yet the LGOG and Nexus are the same basic size. I will take capacitive buttons over hardware and on screen buttons.
I won't buy a phone without some form of hardware buttons. Just don't like the on screen deal. Yes it's neat but when I buy a 4.7 inch screen that's what I want

Ok so basically I never noticed it doing it but on the top left corner if I try to use airview it just clicks a lot. Also anywhere on the screen if the spen is just about to stop being seen by the phone (is verging on being too far) it'll freak out and click all over this is an issue because I tend to hold it at this height.
