Need help getting webtop working on atrix - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

SO I finally bought the laptop dock and it does not work.
I read that it could be a motoblur 2.3.4 update error causing it not work.
All I did was root the phone so I can use titanium backup.
Still running the stock at&t rom.
Is I keep reading about a Fix I have to flash but I cannot find it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

To start flashing anything you have more to go than root.. You need to unlock the boot loader and get a CWM (ClockWorkModRecovery) on there... you could very well have bigger things going on that the factory should deal with... If you still have warranty..... if you decide that flashing stuff is fun...(I sure do)...Here is some reading to do http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
Thanx @Swiftks

I don;t want to start flashing roms and such. I just want this laptop dock to work with the atrix like it should.
Reasons why it won't display the webtop from what I can find is that many of the factory updates broke things. I read that the GB update broke the fingerprint reader and that moto blur 2.3.4 update broke the webtop. I am happy with the stock rom. I just want this laptop dock to work. I read there is a FIX or something I can flash that can help. That is all I am looking for. I am not looking to make webtop work without the dock or anything - I am not looking to use another ROM - I just want the laptop dock to work.
Any advice on what might be wrong? What I might need to flash? would be helpful.

None of the updates have compromised any of the functionality on my phone.
Did you buy the phone new? If you got it used someone might have inadvertently erased the webtop. Try using Motorola's software updater tool on their website to update to the latest release.

I guess this can be closed. Turns out the brand new laptop dock is not functional.

[Q] Need Webtop Backup Files to restore original for update...

Hi guys -
First post .. a little
My webtopbackup folder got nuked by a factory reset -- I didn't think to check XDA for the proper sequence before trying the new OTA updates.
Does anyone have the original files so that I can restore the application and update?
I don't want to try the SBF flash because some have said it causes more issues. My phone is fully functional at this point - except I cannot update OTA. I figured if I could reload the proper webtop files I could probably OTA update.
Best,

Apologies if this has been covered before...
Here you go.
Much thanks!

Recovering Webtop
Can you tell how to recover Webtop? I did the HDMI hack and it worked fine, then in pursuit to get a fully function linux distro on there, I tried Webtop2sd, my terminal and awn manager were failing, so I tried the full Debian distro.
Now when I put hdmi cable or put the atrix on the lapdock (yeah I got it when price dropped to 50$) I see a blank screen.
The M flashes for a while and nothing but a blank screen now.
Please help!

You should be able to re-flash the webtop files via CWM, see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169457
there's a "Fruit Cakes" thread in the development board, it also has a webtop which can be safely recovery flashed.

thank you for that tip, i jumped over to that section and found the link listed at the bottom of the original post which helps recover Webtop 2.3.4 and I'm downloading the file now but rapidshare is anything but rapid unless you pay so we'll see how that plays out, but here is the link to that post for the fix:

Reinstalling Webtop for Lapdock

I have looked through a few threads but I am still unsure of where I need to go/what to do.
I evidently removed the Webtop partition when changing roms, or something of that sort. I am currently running HomeBase the Cronic Blue version. With the sale of the lapdocks, I picked one up and changed from CM7 to the HomeBase.
When I plug my phone into the lapdock, it just clones the screen and nothing else. I believe in the HomeBase thread itself, someone said I needed to reinstall the webtop.
So my question then is (if not obvious by now) how do I go about doing that? Looking through some webtop hacks and threads of that sort confused me a bit more. Most of those seem to require having it previously installed and then those modify it? Or am i looking at that completely wrong?
Guide, links to the correct threads, or anything that can get me going in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
You can install just the webtop with the fruitcake webtop addon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009
Make sure you get the one for your Rom 1.8.3, 2.3.4, or 2.3.5
Thank you very much! That is even a thread I looked at but wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. Just flashed the Webtop addon for 2.3.4 and it worked first go. Very much appreciated.

Help, bought an atrix for my mom

I recently purchased a rooted, and I believe an unlocked (says unlocked on startup screen) atrix for my mom.
Here's what I can tell you about it:
Android version 2.3.7
Baseband N_01.77.36P
Mod Version RedPill Hybrid V1
Build number GWk74
Now I have a few issues. The font on here is WAY too small for my mom, I'm looking for some sort of stock rom or a way to return to stock. I'm not an atrix owner, I own an unrooted SGS2. I've rooted phones before but I know nothing about this one.
Can anyone help me please with these two things? Sorry if I seem noobish, but I'd like her to have the best experience she can. And I really don't know much about these phones.
Thanks!
Oh and also, there's no google apps on the phone so I can't download another launcher :/
This is a good place to start. Should have everything you need just make sure you read all of it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600

I ran across that earlier. I'm under the impression that using fruit cakes is where I want to head with this, but I'm not really sure where to get started. I didn't root this phone so I have absolutely no idea what version it was on before. I'm assuming it has an unlocked bootloader because it says unlocked when it's booting up.
I really don't want to brick a phone that my mom just paid for. Not to mention we got a multimedia dock with it which is unuseable with this rom

Yes fruitcakes is what you'll need to return to stock rom and can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009 2.36 is the latest gingerbread version released
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I appreciate your help so far, I apologize I've never really used an atrix. I apologze if I ask any completely dumb questions.
So using the 2.3.6 system and boot, I'm assuming. Will these return me to stock motoblur or just stock gingerbread?
After this, will I be able to get updates if there are any?
Also, I don't really see total directions on how to flash these. I assume I can use cwm from rom manager, or do I need some other recovery?
Edit: none of the links work for those files.
whatever you do, once you use fruitcake to get to stock 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 you should probably freeze Updater using titanium backup to prevent your mom from clicking 'ok' and install any future official OTA updates.

Yes the 2.36 system and boot will install stock Atrix gingerbread with motoblur on your device. Unfortunately you won't be able to update as they will likely brick your phone. Fruitcakes are the safest way to upgrade
Rom Manager's recovery is what I use just make sure you have the latest version and backup your current rom
Forgot the links were down on the fruitcakes thread let me see if I have the files somewhere

You guys have no idea what lifesavers you are. I can't get to the market because the phone has no google apps, how do I know if I have the latest rom manager? I'm assuming it will just automatically install the latest version of cwm?
I eagerly await your fruitcake files. Thankyou!
Honestly.. I wouldn't fruitcake.
The easiest thing for you to do would be to just install a custom GB ROM. She won't have all the sluggish bloatware, and it'll be almost identical to stock. Easier, too..
Just my opinion.
I'd really rather have her on stock.
However, can you recommend a rom in case I can't find these fruitcake files? I need something stable that's going to work with the hd multimedia dock.

Personally, I don't use the GB ROMs anymore (they use entirely too many resources for my liking lol), but I've had good experiences with Aura, Alien, and Ninja.
GingerMod looks pretty solid as well - I tested it for a few minutes but had to go back to a CM based MOD due to preference.
I know the ones I've listed above all have functionality with the HDMI cable, so I assume they work with the multimedia dock, as well. I don't own one, so I've never been able to test/been interested in that functionality.
If I were in your situation, I'd download a bunch of different GB ROMs, test them all, see if any suit all of her needs - if none do, then go for stock

I'm open to downloading a few, but is there any other way to go back to stock besides fruitcake that isn't going to blow up the phone? I don't want to brick it my mom would kill me.
Saw this the other day, might be worth a look in to: [Batch/Script] MFBSR - Moto-Fastboot: Stock Restore
This looks like good information, I think I can work with this. For fear of sounding stupid, I'm sorry Ive never done this stuff with an atrix.
Can you please give me a quick step by step for this:
1. Download MFBSR.
2. Boot into fastboot.
3. Run the script.
4. Your done!
I downloaded the script, I just have no idea how to boot into fastboot and run it. I don't have any of the stuff on my computer for this phone since I wasn't the one that rooted it. I'm going to read through the whole thread, but any help you could give would be great.
EDIT: Ooh because my rom is 2.3.7 some say I shouldn't flash this and I need a fruitcake instead, which I can't find a dang download for.
ATT 4.5.140 - 2.3.6
2.3.6 System and Boot
That's the fruitcake I need if anyone knows of a working download link.
fastboot (from briefmobile's instructions)
Put your device into Fastboot mode:
– Turn off your device.
– Hold down the power button and downward volume button until you see “Fastboot” on your screen
– Push the upward volume button

If you turn the phone off, and hold the VOL down key while it's powering back on (the boot screen (moto logo with unlocked in top left corner)), you should see "fastboot" pop up underneath the "unlocked" - hit VOL up key to select fastboot - have phone connected with USB.
If you pull up a cmd prompt and nav. to the dir. where the fastboot files are (I'm assuming they came with the script), type "fastboot devices" and see if it pulls anything. You should see an id for the atrix if it's connected.

Is it safe to do this when I'm on redpill 2.3.7? Seems like downgrading might be a bad idea?
I'm not sure about going from RedPill straight to stock 2.3.4, but I know that many ROMs use different versions of android, and there are no repercussions for jumping from, say, 2.3.7 to 2.3.4. If you're worried, you could jump down to a custom ROM that uses that same version of android, and then run the script.
Alright, that seems like an alright idea. Going to go for it and I will get back to you guys. Thankyou again for the help. Messing with a phone that doesn't belong to me is rather scary.

[Q] Many issues since ATT 4.5.141 update

I am merely rooted, so no other mods. I did my over the air update to 4.5.141 last week and have had nothing but problems: spontaneous reboots, weird A2DP stuff (launching both music and beyond pod simultaneously and locking the phone!), poor battery life.
I want to go back to what was stable and worked, 2.3.4 (4.5.91) and am confused as to how to safely do this. From what I read, I cannot use the old SBF because it will brick the phone. I have not found the SPF for 2.3.4, anyway, so that is probably not important. I do not really want to use CWM and a new rom, I just want to use the phone. I root for WifiTether and Ti backup reasons only and do not need to do anything else. I can wait for Q4 for ICS, but not if it has all these problems over the next 10 months!
How can I go safely back to a stock 2.3.4?
Keithspg
The only thing I can think of is to unlock the bootloader (if possible) and flashing a fruitcake. I haven't read of anyone successfully unlocking the bootloader after the OTA AND having never unlocked it before but that doesn't mean it's not possible.

I am also rooted for TI backup. Since the update WiFi has been randomly dropping. My ABC news app keeps losing connection when going to video section. While on Android IRC WiFi drops out and I have to reconnect. Before update WiFi remained connected for days.
I have way too much work into the phone to reformat to anything. I am hoping ICS upgrade will fix the problem but who knows what they will bring.
Since we are rooted there is no way Motorola will support us. We need a dev here to figure out what went wrong. (
Just backed up, wiped the phone (from fastboot menu), re-rooted, restored. Not an hour later, spontaneous power off while in my pocket. This really sucks. I can un-root, if that will fix it, but do not see how root can be causing the problem. Still have not unlocked the boot loader and would use that only as a last resort.
Regardless, it is not clear to me that the 3.2.4 unlock instructions will work with 3.2.6.
I do not know what a pudding or a fruitcake is, really. I have been reading about CM7 and it does not not appear as 'released' for Atrix. Also it looks like a hassle to add everything Google after you install it *and* the fingerprint sensor does not yet work with the alpha builds which do exist for Atrix.
not happy at all.

Adding the Google "everything" is actually very easy. Flash the gapps after the rom, then first time you go to market after signing in, it prompts you to install whatever google apps you want. As for the fingerprint, I'm on cm7 weekly build Feb 20 and I only use fingerprint to unlock. So it works. And its been very stable for me so far. Hth

[Q] Was stuck at boot, rooted s Razr. Have recovered. Need original ICS rom/HELP

Here's the story.
Rooted Stock RAZR.
Changed Build Prop to Galaxy Nexus and google.
Overwrote system files with the huge GAPPS 4.2 pack, excepting the apps folder. (My biggest mistake)
Backed up my launcher, transferred 4.2 launcher to system/app.
Overwrote some app files, not all.
Downloaded a Safestrap, -I do not believe I properly set this up.
Downloaded Clockworkmod, told it I had setup a recovery, then created a backup of rom.
The phone rebooted. I assumed that meant the backup was successful.
Nothing happened. Like the genius I am, factory reset phone.
Phone successfully loaded, but I got stuck at the welcome screen.
Put myself into bootloader, hit recovery, I think I wiped the cache and then did another factory data reset.
Somehow got back to the main screen. Phone was working properly.
Went and installed some more apps, including velvet chrome gmail gms and others.
Downloaded boot something or other app (cant remember name) redownloaded clockworkmod and safestrap. (Still not set up properly, obviously.)
Rebooted.
Got stuck in boot for hours. Could not get recovery up
Finally got into recovery.
Phone still sitting here, I do not dare touch it.
Yes, I made every possible wrong choice I could have. I did not have any clue what I was doing and tampered with a phone I don't have the money to replace.
The question is, can you help me xda forums. My phone can safely boot I hope as it is now in recovery.
I need to get this safe again. I do have an original copy of.my old.build prop, but not one of the original system files/some apps.
I would also really like to turn my RAZR into a Nexus
Maybe just the homescreen.
Going to my buddies house tonight. He has a computer I can use.

To restore your phone you need to SBF (Check out this guide if you are unfamiliar with how to use SBF forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23453478) back to stock using the SBF 4.04 ICS build 6.7.2-180 which can be found here from http://www.droid-life.com/2012/07/1...azr-ice-cream-sandwich-4-0-4-build-6-7-2-180/. My only question is if I can accomplish all of this with my phone and a ******* MAC.
Thank you so much. I literally have asked around the web for hours with little to no help of any kind, and have been unable to come across resources on my own. I had completely forgotten about SBFing. That will be my savior. Not only that, but you have provided the links I have so. Needed. I am going to boot up my phone now, leave it on the charger, and go to sleep now...I hope it's there when I wake up.
also, someone recommended I flash Cyanogenmod. I found these two resources on my own:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/htc-rezound-roms/224442-rom-cyanogen-mod-9-cdma.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751826
and this is where I messed everything up from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966302
I'm wondering, are my system files still ok after overwriting? Could the problem only be based on the changes to the build prop or something similar, so that I don't have to destroy my phone further?

About to read through the articles. My battery is dead. I've looked through advice including hotwiring the charger to the battery but...Razr batterys can't be removed without voiding warranty.

I'm wondering, are my system files still ok after overwriting? Could the problem only be based on the changes to the build prop or something similar, so that I don't have to destroy my phone further?

It is possible that the build.prop edits you made caused your problems, but I would still recommend SBF'ing back to stock so you have a clean slate to start with. Also don't install anything else that could make things worse, until you are back to stock like I suggested. While you can use a MAC to flash SBF's its a lot easier and more reliable to use a computer running Windows.

Did you try plugging your phone into your charger and leaving it plugged in for a little while to let it charge? Also try plugging the phone into your computer and having it charge off of one of the USB ports.

Ok. Thank you. You have no idea how much less stressed I am about this. I have been trying to let it charge. I don't have a standard charger, I use a broken lapdock, which does charges the same exact way. Will charging with a computer give me different results? (This is not a priority question, I don't NEED you to answer it asap or anything.) Please stick around if I encounter more issues. It's nice to receive help rather than being flamed for being a noob. I had to get started somewhere. With yours and others help, I have gained many resources for flashing/rooting. I am still going to avoid trying to SBF if I can(Though I believe it is the avenue I'm taking, the only way I wouldn't is if I can safely recover and fixing build prop fixes my issues), as I REALLY don't want to lose root, as I had someone else root for me in the first place. I really need a god damn pc. Thanks again.

If your lapdock is broken then it may not allow your phone to charge correctly, I would recommend trying to charge it through your computer's USB ports as it will probably make a difference. And don't worry about asking questions heck we all start out knowing nothing and needing to ask questions, and what's good is your exploring and asking good questions not just demanding people do things for you. I understand SBF'ing back to stock may seem scary but as long as you follow the directions properly you'll be fine. Also by going to back to stock it will give you a clean build.prop free of any changes you made. For future reference always make a nandroid before making any build.prop changes no matter how small it may seem. As always I'm happy to help out and will be around for any questions you may have .
