so a few days ago i was getting incredible speeds for my area! (5mb/s) but today i was playing with miui v4 to make sure my apn guide worked on it, which it didn't so i began doing other things i found on google, such as dialing and whatnot. well that just made it even worse. eventually it got to the point where when i was on miui i couldn't even send text messages (even after wiping user data and cache) so i nandroid restored to the aokp rom that i had achieved 5mb/s speeds on. all the apns, apps, etc, are back. the speed however, is not. i am running on a constant 1 mb/s speed... i am back on the modem i was on, as i said apns are the same, etc, i am thinking it is something i did when i dialed the *#*#info#*#* or the 3g/4g speed optimizer app. help please
EDIT: one clicking now... *sigh* hopefully this will help the problem so i can get back to my faster speeds!

Ok so before I had a tmobile vkl1 modem running on saurom rom not overclocked, and I would only sometimes reach the 1mbs mark. And in my area i get or at least i assume i have good reception because I have 4 bars. Also my network settings were set to HSPA only. So i decided to try and fix it. I did some searching here and found that people said telus modem was better and it also came with a build.prop change. I did everything it said to.
I load up my phone after i flashed the new modem, and changed the build prop. I even rebooted 2 times after just to make sure it would use new build.prop When i go to the speed test app i only get .42mbs for dl and .13mbps for upload. Try again and only get .44mbps and .06mbps for upload??
That obviously wasnt right so i went in my browser and googled it to get my results and I got 1.62mbs download which is significantly faster but only .03mbs upload! I repeated the test 3 times and got similar results
Does anybody know why this is happening? Could I have done something wrong?? To me as i was browsing speeds do seem slow but now slow enough to be edge.
i have same issue

Wow so its just not me. maybe a problem with the roms or kernel. What rom/kernel are you guys using?
I am going to try and flash back to vkl1 and see what happens. I'll report back. Quick question do you have to wipe then flash and then restore or just clear cache?
Yea same here im using the holonote kernel with vk1 radio...

Not even sure if we have any choices here, but the new ICS leak has a weaker radio imao. I don't get as good of a connection in some places as before. Is there list of radios yet? Google no show here...

I noticed the same issues....strong on wifi at work but weak and slow at home and my mobile network suuucks...but i am happy to be ics'd finally....
I think the updated radio is improved. I was doing internet speed test against the OneS and it was just as fast if not faster than it. But WiFi (after testing for a day) is really shoddy. It's slow do upload anything data related after rebooting my router and modem. I get faster speeds with 4G on 2bars..lol

sub'd. I'd like to see what everyone else has to say about the radio. Like I said in the other thread, I get terrible reception at work and I really don't want to make it worse.
I always get 3-full bars

my wifi is tons stonger
The radio in this ICS ROM leak is definitely worse. I sit in the same place at work everyday, and where I usually use to get a consistent 4 bars, I get 0 - 2, and sometimes 4. It just fluctuates wayyyyyy too much. Data speeds may be a little faster, but if I have no signal, data doesn't do much good. Pings are much higher too.
Are there other options here. I'm not sure I can bare. My signal at home is not far inferior too, and I always had 3 - 4 bars, as I have the Cel-fi booster.

My wifi doesn't even work at all. Bummer.
I got a text today from T-Mobile saying that they have free signal boosters. Basically if you call them and say you have bad signal at home, they'll send you a signal booster free of charge. The catch? You need to live in a single family home, you need to have bad signal at home, and it'll reset your contract to 2 years from the day you request the signal booster.
(I just called and ordered mine earlier today)
Can you go back to the old radios?

I can definitely second this. With the ICS radio, my signal is about half what it used to be in the office. I also have issues where I have signal and a data connection, but the phone will still not make/receive calls or txts until I recycle the radio or restart the phone. I suspect we'll see another firmware out before the official release. My guess is that this is the hold up for a final release since everything else seems pretty smooth - even wifi calling is working great at home.

normally, a radio version from a prior build will work on a newer build, but not in reverse. once you updated to ics, you can not use a gb radio afaik
example
on gb firmware, can use ics rom with gb radio
on ics firmware, have to use ics radio on gb/ics rom
needless to say, were stuck with the ics radio until they update it
Mines works great, although i flashed a radio from Android HD not sure if that worked well after super wipe.

That's the thing, I have had the booster for almost a year maybe, and it works pretty well, but since switching to this ICS leaked ROM, my signal is terrible, even with the booster.
I have S-On, HTC Dev Bootloader Unlock, T_Mobile ICS RUU leak. My Data improved and more consistent. I use to get anywhere between 2MB-4MB to now 8+MB. WiFi worked like usual. I haven't notice any signal loss(Knock on wood).
I was S-On before with HTC Dev Unlocked Bootloader. Then just re-locked it, flashed T-Mo ICS leak, flashed 4Ext Recovery, Su, then Busybox. All is well. Initial setup went through WiFi. So, I don't know, maybe just got lucky.
I noticed E2 is way faster. BUT big but, E2 has way worse reception.
Am i the only one?
I was on Jersey Shore today and I couldn't get any data working.
If that is the case for you, then you could flash a different modem I suppose.

I've noticed way faster data speeds on E2. I used to see about 2 down, now I see about 6 down. And I've had no signal issues, always 4 or 5 bars. Afaik, different modems can give vastly different performance for different people. All depends on your area and what not. Just experiment with the various modems. I'm just glad Samsung finally got one right for my area, as I've only ever seen about 3 down on any phone I've owned until now.

The AT&T version of both of those modems, which is all us Canadians have access to thus far, has, for me, had much worse data speed numbers (non LTE anyway) on the Telus network than the stock GB Telus modem.
The E2 modem is, in my very non scientific testing, slightly slower for us here in Canada. (again, HSPA only, no LTE coverage here yet)
I'd really be interested in understanding what is actually different between carrier modem implementations. I noticed a similar speed differential in the stock modems.
I tried adjusting the RF preferences but that doesn't solve it. Its almost like AT&T doesn't have the same implementation of HSPA+ as the Canadian carriers.
I say all that with some degree of confidence in the numbers... having installed a variety of ROMs n modems and the results from the stock Telus modem are consistently better when I can use it.
Currently on the One Beta and associated LE2 modem, it shows very wonky "bars" by times...like none, in what should be solid five bar area.
My fourth floor office which never wavered from five bars on stock.. Consistently now shows any where from 0 to 3... But it still transmits and receives calls and data.
A buddy of mine is testing the Telus 4.0 release with Premium Suite... so in any event, it shouldn't be too much longer.

is it really that much faster? ive yet to upgrade from UCLD3 because its just running fine, wanted the next time i update my phone to be the last (offical ICS since i doubt we will get a update any time soon after that)
I noticed a big difference in speed. UCLD3 used to stutter a lot and freeze up from time to time for no apparent reason. Haven't had any of those issues with UCLE2. Also, bugs that annoyed me in UCLD3 were fixed in UCLE2. I don't see any reason not to flash UCLE2.
I've been having a bug on ucle2 where I cant keep a wifi connection for in app downloads resulting in the download stopping I've tested on multiple ucle2 roms and confirmed no issue on ucld3 not sure how I got so special because I haven't seen anyone else report this that I know of

That actually happened to me. I reverted to D. Seems not as crazy fast but stable. With E I got 1mB (that's bytes) per second. D tops at about 600.

Hello. First of all I'd like to state that this is my first android device and I am still learning the whole process of rooting and flashing ROM's so bear with me.
So to my question. I installed BlackStar V1 yesterday and I noticed when performing a speed test that my 3G performance had dropped significantly. I have a 1Mbps download bandwith plan from the best provider in my area, and got full speed at 60-120ms with my previous phone and with stock and Omega V4 rom's with GS3 at all times of the day. However after installing BlackStar my latency tripled and download speed cut to third from the 1Mbps even at night when the network is less crowded. I can manage when I'm home or at work since the wifi works fine, but when on the move handling large e-mail attachments gets frustrating. Does anyone have an idea what might be the issue?
I haven't tried to restore my Omega nandroid backup yet in hopes this issue might get fixed somehow, but am forced in couple of days if it's not, which is a shame since i really like this rom .
Unfortunately I do not have screenshot of my speedtest result before installing BlackStar.
I have a little different speeds in helsinki with stock rooted ROM and fastest saunalahti multi-sim
Yeah that shows that the stock works fine, I actually realized to check the history tab and you can see that 3G has worked for me correctly in the past.
Could it be that the creator of the BlackStar has changed the stock modem with a different one that doesnt work well with finnish frequencies?

Seems like it was indeed a modem issue. Fixed after installing the new XXLF2 modem.

I was hoping that someone could help me with a very annoying problem I'm having. I'm getting texts multiple times throughtout the next few hours. Whenever I get a text, I can read it/respond/etc and it's fine. The problem arises an hour or so later in that I keep getting the same texts over and over and over. Best example is a text from my wife this morning at 8:22, I've gotten 8 times and it's only 11:32 now. Please can someone help me. Thanks for those that try.

I am actually. I'm using Miui.us. Could it have anything to do with the Sprint network and the huge east coast storm?
No it has nothing to do with storms, just annoying is all.
I believe you have to clear data in settings, applications for messenger, (backup using SMS backup and restore first) or clear cache in recovery (backup as well, obviously)

Thanks for the replay Slayer. I'll keep that in mind but for now it seems to have stopped on its own. So I guess I'll make a note of what you said in case it does it again. Thanks again for everyones time.
My bet is its just Sprint being Sprint. My Photon had that issue BAD when it was stock for first week or two. COMPLETELY untouched. Still have it do it from time to time, no matter what ROM im on, cm7/9/10, CNA, AOKP. Usually happened/happens when was in low service areas. Just my 2 cents, if clearing cache and whatnot helps for you then good its worth a shot but none of that ever did anything for me.
That is most likely a network issue. I used to work at Sprint and we would see it sometime. That is also the reason is usually just stops.
