Onskreen Cornerstone - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Would it be possible to include "Onskreen Cornerstone" in a custom rom for the Note since it it is made for tablets and has been ran on some tablets or would it not be useful on our screens?

I dont think it can be done. If it could, it would be piracy due to the fact that its a paid app in the play store.

Its open scource and its not available in the market and there is no apk. I think you might have no clue what I am talkin about. Here is a link to the Onskreen Cornerstone site http://www.onskreen.com/cornerstone/ I think it would be a great feature but not sure if our screens are big enough.

Onskreen
Well, it is available on the Asus Transformer in two different ROM's, and it is missing some of the features they show in the video, and it's very buggy. Also, I am not sure it makes sense to have that on a 5.3" screen.
On a side note, I am noticing that some apps treat the Note more like a phone, than a 1280x800 tablet. the CNN Widget app is one of them.

Lol my fault. I did read it incorrectly. I thought you meant OverSkreen from the play store. My apologies.
This is something definitely a dev should take a look at. We would actually have the best of both worlds of a phone and tablet.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

i think its scaleable down, but issue would be "where to put it" across the top? left or right upper? make it multi placeable? hmmm...i was thinking maybe something like onskreen across the top of the screen a little larger than the stock homescreen's clock...but IDK where to even begin..

onskreen on the note = 1 small screen next to 2 tiny a$$ screens = doesnt make any sense on the note
but as always, in any situation, to each their own. :silly:

Occupy Play Store Movement

Starts today. The newest update brought a tab to the "My Apps" section of the Play Store labeled "All", which is a ridiculous list of every app you have ever even looked at funny, never mind downloaded (free or not), with no way to filter so you can easily and conveniently browse your purchased but uninstalled apps. This is, IMHO, stupid and I've contacted Google about it, but it takes more than one squeaky wheel to get action so I am asking, nay pleading with you to contact Google through the "Help" option in the Play Store and demand for them to make this necessary change to the Play Store, and fire the moron who thought this latest edition was a good idea. The more I go through my list, and realize it's ridiculously poor implementation, the more heated I get. Join me, would you?
Thanks.

Really? This "movement" is entirely unnecessary.
You don't like the feature? DON'T SWIPE LEFT TO GET TO THE TAB.
For gods sake its a small UI change, its not a big deal. Get over it.
If you're REALLY that big ignorant and want to get rid of it, ask a dev, or do it yourself, go into the apk and change the framework of it so its not in there.
I don't give a damn about the all tab. It's useless to me, but others I know DO find it useful.

I don't wanna sound like a douche from the last post, but are you guys not talking about the "all" tab in MY APPS in the new market?
Why don't you just either SEARCH for setcpu/voodoo or go into your installed to look for the app?

im just trying to figure out how that screen prevents you from doing something, or hinders your play store experience in any way?? unless you have parkinsons and your thumb uncontrollably swipes to the left constantly - in which case you probably shouldnt have a touch screen phone period.

Point is that before all if your purchased apps were at the bottom of your list if they weren't installed, easy to look through and decide if you wanted to reinstall them, or not. Now, you have to search through the entire list off every app you've ever tried, had a friend download, new ROM install etc. to see if there's an "old" paid app you might like to revisit, OR restore after a new ROM flash. And xrider, I'd think you'd like to be able to erase the pron apps you've downloaded in case you're mom gets ahold of your phone and pokes around.
And if you don't like the idea this post poses, you could take your own advice and not click on this topic.

firstly, if you didn't want opposition to your thread, you might as well have stated it in the OP. You're making a entire thread on this subject and you expect people who disagree with your opinion to just stay quiet? I don't know who, how old you are or anything and it doesn't matter but you need a reality check and know that people out there WILL disagree with your public opinion. As for my mom finding out about the porn apps, I could care less there's much bigger things in my life than me watching an Asian naked, alright?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
I don't mind opposing points of view, you just seemed to be getting worked up about my point of view so I suggested you exercise the option of using a little of your own advice. As for the porn comment, it was just a joke made because you've made statements more than once on these forums about liking porn (and no, there's nothing wrong with naked Asians, as long as they're female and have ALWAYS been female). Sorry if my post offended, I wasn't trying to be a prick.
Seriously though, you don't find the poor implementation of the "All" tab annoying? Especially since it isn't just a new feature, but has replaced a feature that used to be much more user friendly? One that I used a lot, and now is not only gone, but replaced by this idiodic list 500+ apps long, most of which I either don't remember ever using, or just downloaded to see and decided I didn't want or like them so they were deleted. Now I have to wade through them to find apps I paid for. Its crap.
I have no idea what the heck you are talking about. I have tried on my phone and tablet. I have swiped left, right, up and down (yes I am still talking about the market). I have seen the "All" on my PC but nary on my phone/tablet. Ya I said nary, so.
I guess in my case since I can't get into the "All" section, ignorance is bliss. Especially if it is pitting Xrider and Droidificator against one another. Darn you market and your evil plan to create anarchy amongst the users.

It is 3.4.7. Same with my tablet. Ah well, no worries for now. Guess I can be a neutral party for now.

A thread to mock them all!

So I got my Galaxy Note today, and as soon as I got home, I put it under my electron microscope, and to my dismay, I noticed nano scratches! I wanted to reach out to everyone to see if they noticed this flaw on their phones. I was considering using hydrochloric acid and a high speed belt sander to remove them. The only problem is, they are so small, they can't be seen with the nakid eye, and I dont know what to do. I paid $300 for this phone, and I find this flaw to be totally unacceptable. My phone should be absolutely, 100% perfect! I contacted Samsung about this issue, and they told me to suck it.
I guess it's off to AT&T, where I will open and inspect every single Note, until I find the perfect one. If they won't exchange it for me, I will lie and commit fraud to get my way!

Well played.
I'll take your messed up Note off your hands for $20. You pay shipping, though.
Kinda' funny.
You know, people can hate on iSheep all they want, but the fact is most of Apple's phones are PERFECT and uniform. Why do I mention this? Simple, the bar has been raised significantly for aesthetics and performance. Small amounts of burn-in, tiny amounts of black crush, overzealous memory use, uneven component quality -- with rare exception, iPhones don't suffer from any of this. While Samsung clearly has the better phone overall, bits and pieces still lag far behind.
P.S. I love my Note.

To add to what the OP was saying, at least how it appears to me; I bought my phone the day it came out, I just couldn't wait until October until my contract would have let me upgraded. Went down to the At&t store, bought it. They had NO accessories for it, cases, screen protectors, nothing. Anyway back at the house I played with the Note for about 4 hours solid that night, running quadrant, downloading different apps, games; Anything I could think of I did, I gave my phone "electrical" hell that night.
Next day I went on eBay found a case for $9, screen protector for $5, got a mhl adapter and 2 generic spare batteries and a host cable. Later that evening the 1st un-official rom was released for the Note. I didn't have a second thought, downloaded Odin and flashed away, in fact been doing that ever since.
Then I started reading post on here: Hair line cracks on Note, black banding issues, sound woes, etc...
I guess I am wired different than everyone else; If I buy something, and it looks ok, functions ok and was what I wanted to begin with i'm happy. I am not a person that will nitpick something to death like someone with OCD on crack, it's just not me.
If a stranger is watching me use my phone and wants to check it out, I don't mind handing it over for them to try out. I take care of what I have but I don't baby it either, it gets used.
[ Just checked my flash counter and i'm up to 38 Odin flashes plus how ever many I have done with cwm. I wonder if i can get up to 100 ]

Back to the topic, I found two clones one has a 5.0 inch screen and one has a 5.3 inch screen. After you type "galaxy not clone" in your search bar they will both come up on the first page of results. I think one is called "hdc i9220 galaxy note" but not sure what the other is called but its made by a company called Kente.

The only thing that was cool was the dual sim option. If you travel overseas a lot, the dual sim option comes in handy. For the price, theres no complaining. Remember, the iphone might be the best selling phone in the US but the Sgs2 is the best selling in other countries. So yes, the Note has some success in popularity. Imagine if the Note was released on all 4 carriers in the US...I would think the 5 million shipped would be easily 10 million.

Looks like the Note's tablet mode isn't appreciated by everyone...

I was on Phonedog and came across this article:
http://www.phonedog.com/2012/04/29/can-we-put-an-end-to-this-tablet-phone-hybrid-rom-trend-already/
I personally love the new tablet mode and I thought the article was a bit harsh. Not that any of it matters as long as everyone enjoys their phone, just thought I'd share my findings.

The author seems to be retarded. He doesn't like tablet mode, so he flashed the mod to enable tablet mode. Fantastic plan.

I appreciate that article.
It means I won't ever take that person's advice, or expect their articles to reflect things relevant to my taste or interests. I respect the writer having an opionion that differs from mine, and I am sure there are people who agree with the author. They all have the right to be wrong, I guess.
Meh, to each their own.
The only part of the article I don't like is where he mentions this being a recent thing.
People have been doing Tablet UI Mod since ICS first came out. I had tablet mod on my Inspire 4g just by using an AOSP rom and then moving the appropriate services.jar and systemui from another phone (nexus if i recall) and changing the dpi.
It's not like people just figured out phones on ICS could do tablet mod, and I still think its a niche few who actually will end up Dailying it, but who cares if they do or do not. It's entirely usable, I've been using it on the Note since the first release and it's been perfectly fine, and when I don't want it, I can change it back or go to GB if I so desire.
Sounds like he should leave his phones stock.
I liked tablet mode. But there are too many bugs needed to be fixed.
So I flashed mine back to ginger bread

I am usually the first one to try new ROMs as they appear.
Although I don't agree with everything he says and the stance he is taking, I do agree with him on how the tablet mode, as is available now, is not so pragmatic for the Note.
One of the main reasons why I like using the Note is how easy it is to view things on a relatively large screen. When converted to the tablet mode for a while, I didn't really appreciate how small fonts are on most of the apps and how I found myself constantly zooming in to view the content, as I used to do with smaller display phones in the past. Also, the persistent notification bar with menu buttons didn't appeal to me either, as I would rather use full screen until I need to access the status bar as necessary. (I use gesture to toggle the status bar on Apex Launcher) I have used the Big Font to adjust system font size but that only affects the system apps, it appears, not in other 3rd-party apps.
I do use my phone mostly in the portrait mode and sometimes in landscape mode.
The tablet mode seems more useful in the landscape mode only.
I have asked others and tried to find out for myself the advantages of the tablet mode but didn't see many other than two-panes mode in Settings and Email app being useful at times.
So, my question to all who like the tablet mode is what do you like about the tablet mode over and above what NOTEWorthy or Seraphim or Alpha3 provide in phone mode? Please help me better understand this issue. Thanks.
I like it. While Tablet mode might not be everyone's cup of tea, people shouldn't try to get devs to stop creating amazing projects that people do like to use.
It's not like anyone is forcing this guy to use the Hybrid Rom. He could use any other type of ROM
I do use my phone mostly in the portrait mode and sometimes in landscape mode.
The tablet mode seems more useful in the landscape mode only.

I actually prefer tablet mode in portrait. My eyes aren't so bad that I can't see it, but it's not in my face and GINORMOUS icons everywhere. The only thing I can't stand is the four extra buttons. I have four buttons a couple centimeters lower, so I'm hoping those buttons could be eliminated to make room for more status bar icons.
I also like the status bar being at the bottom. It feels like there's so much more room on the screen.
My DD before this was Seraphim with SPB. Haven't looked back since (although I love the Collective's roms.)

The author is definitely not a bb user. Out of all the phonedog writers, he's been the most vocal in his love of the Note and consistently ranks it as the number one smartphone.

He definitely was a long time bb user. I've been following phonedog for a while now and many of his articles I've read he recalls his bb days.

What bothers me about the article is he is telling people it isn't worth trying. That it breaks things and is barely usable. I've had the most success with any ICS rom on this rom with tablet ui.
Lol it says so in his little about me section. Unless he's lying.

I'm not a big fan of tablet mode, just because the dpi. Lowering the dpi that low ruins widgets, keyboards, web browsing, watching videos(bar stays active reducing video size) and other features. It's mostly a dpi issue and not the tablet mode itself. If it were 320dpi and the bar would disappear while playing vids, it would fix everything for me.
Why do people always make a big deal if someone likes something or not? I haven't tried tablet mode so I can't say if it's good or not but if that person doesn't like it he has the right not too. If you like it then why do you care if someone else doesn't? Just enjoy your device and let people think whatever they like.

Probably because he writes for a major website and his articles are viewed by thousands maybe hundreds of thousands. They see his article and would never try the mod because he scares them off when there's really nothing that can break the phone from it if you do it right.
See this s** is really starting to piss me off. If this mofo doesn't like the best phone in the northeast then he can go back to his fng Nokia flip phone.
God damnit and he probably made so much money on us just clicking the damn link
THEY STIRR UP TROUBKE FOR SITE VIEWS=$ FOR THEM
In his head, "I'm just gonna piss off the galaxy note users so they can bash me and post comments. ILL SO GET PROMOTED"

This guy is just plain confused.. he says "dont bite the hand that feeds you" yet thats exactly what he did. He even says that tablet mode will be useful when you can use it for HDMI mirroring on a larger screen.. well buddy, how do you think things like that will come about without development and testers?

I would tend to agree with that but I don't think this applies to people that install different ROMs on their phone. I would think that people generally try things before making up their mind. This article isn't directed at the general public since they generally stick with whatever comes on their phone. When I want to try something new I usually look for articles or reviews of people what have negative things to say about something and then try it out myself. The whole idea behind different ROMs is that there is something out there for everyone and even when somebody likes it or hates it you could have a completely different opinion. If someone reads an article and makes up their mind before trying it then they're doing it wrong.
Tablet mode is freaking awesome on the galaxy nexus.
But its not for the note until all the little stuff are fixed, or until cm9 is out

I agree. Everyone has their own opinion.
I don't like the tablet mode. I will not have it. I have no plans of getting it whatsoever.
But at least I don't post stupid things like that blog.
LOL
A lot of blogs do this to get hits or views on the webpage.

Request for iOS-like gestures

After using the latest iPad, I must say I'm falling in love with the gestures. I still do think the Prime owns the iPad in a variety of aspects. Are there any developers in the midst of porting or creating something similar for us Android guys?

Your post is so descriptive it quite obviously warranted a thread all of it's own. Please give more detail in future posts.

Or you could type "Ipad 3 gestures" in Youtube and see what he is talking about.
I was thinking the same, seeing my brothers ipad the gestures are so useful for speedy use of a tablet. Has anyone comapred the speed/responsiveness of this GMD Gesture Control to that of an ipad? I'd definitely be tempted to buy it if its as good as the ipads.
As much as I dont like Apple is some ways, in others they really have got some great stuff that we are missing on Android

It is better. The amount of stuff you can do is simply amazing.
You can setup every single pattern you can think of to anything from 1 finger to 5 fingers. And the reaction time is instant. No lag.
The best thing is, it uses absolute 0 extra energy, the tablet has no issues going into deep sleep mode and it just work.
Right now I have something like:
4 Fingers Pinch -> Home
4 Fingers Expand -> Screenoff
3 Fingers Expand -> Recent opened apps
3 Fingers Pitch -> OverSkreen
2 Fingers From left border to right -> Back
3 Fingers Upper border to down -> Hide the Status bar (bar with clock buttons and ICS stuff).
Works wonders, you can also set it up to something like right, up, left pattern, square, triangle, you name it, to do anything you want

Before you just barge in with your criticism, why not just simply 'Google' it.

Sounds promising! I watched the video from the Google Play store and there does look to be some lag when pinch closing for example, maybe its an old video.
I'll have to try out the lite version and see whether it lives up to my demands! Only problem now is I cant root .21

You can root. 21! You have to downgrade to .15 root and then go to. 21.
The whole process is somewhere in general
Regarding the app, i first tried the free version but was like meh.... then there was another thread about the app here and i decided to give it a try ... ohman it was worth it ;D
