[Q]Cyanogenmod stuck at loading after 6 months - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, after 6 months of my S II running fine on cyanogenmod 7.1
I wake up this morning turn on my phone and it's stuck on the loading screen (blue guy with the arrow spinning around him)
Problem is I don't have any back ups.
*What I've done so far*
Entered Clockworkrecovery backed up my current settings. Wiped data/factory reset, got in everything worked fine but of course none of my files, apps, texts etc where there. I went back to restore my stuff and still no luck just get stuck on the loading screen. I'm extremely confused since everything was working fine for so long then BANG.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm sorry pal, can you please give me some instructions. Don't quite follow.

Search for the original firmware that came with your phone here. If links don't work, search on Samfirmware.com. If you download from Samfirmware, follow the instructions they have on their site for flashing firmware downloaded from there. If you manage to download firmware from links in Intratech's thread I linked you to, follow the instructions in that thread to flash.
Edit to add - Also, you can use the latest firmware for your carrier/country rather than the original firmware which came with the phone. To download it, get the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google), this allows you to input your phone model, country & carrier & it will tell you what the latest available stock firmware is you'd normally get from Kies. The package you download with Checkfus can be flashed in Odin following the instructions in Intratech's thread I linked you to above.
Once you're back on stock, you can root your phone again/flash CM7/whatever you want.

So once I flash with oden to my original firmware I'll no longer be in CM7?
and my phone will be unrooted and pretty much stock. I then root my phone, install CM7, try and restore the backup I once created?
Sounds about right?
*EDIT*
And I'll have to firstly wipe date/factory reset so my phone will start, from there connect it to my computer so I can proceed with flashing?

Yep, that's exactly right Get it back to stock so you have a 'clean slate' to start with, then you can root again & go back to CM7 or whatever rom you want to use. So far as restoring your backup goes, yeah, once you're rooted & have CWM installed, I guess you can try & restore it.

I found what I need here, http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=4#

When I click download it doesn't work :\

In that case search elsewhere (Google). Or use Checkfus to get the latest firmware. I've thrown you quite a few bones, time for you to put some effort in to get it fixed

Man, I've legitly searched everywhere can't find it. Is there anything else I can do?
I just want to restore my data

What did I say about using Checkfus to get the latest firmware ? You're going to need to read a bit better & try a bit harder :-|
You could maybe try flashing a kernel that has CWM (there are lots of them, search) before you go back to stock, tho it sounds like CWM is messed up. Frankly, I'd go back to stock if I had that problem. That's why I suggested it.

So the only thing I can do is go back to stock and do everything again?
What's the reason for doing that?
My point is it's only when I restore my back up then I can't boot up properly. But it's 100% fine when I delete data/factory. I just want the data from my back up. Apps texts etc. need them so bad.
*depression sets in*

Right. OK. Let me explain my reasoning behind why I've made the suggestion I have to you...
If the only issue is your backup won't work, I doubt there's much you can do about it. The backup is obviously no good. Probably.
Now...What I would do is to go back to basics as I've suggested already. Back to stock, fresh root with CFRoot. And then give restoring the backup one last try with a clean setup. You can be fairly confident if your backup can't be restored once you've done this, there's no way you're going to restore that backup full stop.
Whether you want to go thru the hassle of having a fresh start to see if the backup works or not (given it doesn't work with your current setup), is up to you. Obviously in the time it takes to go back to a 'clean' setup, you could be well on the way to installing everything from scratch (apps, restoring contacts/calendar from Google & so on) again.
As I've said, you have to make that decision. But if your backup is bad (as it appears to be), nothing is going to bring it back/make it restore OK. There is no magic fix if what I've suggested doesn't work (Unless someone else reading this thread has another idea).

Wow. that is bad news.
But how does that happen, one morning it suddenly stop working. whyy.

Honestly, no idea. People with far greater technical aptitude/knowledge than me might be able to answer your question.
Anyhoo...I've given you something to try, up to you whether you want to try it or cut your losses & start reinstalling everything.

Bricked my Galaxy S2 I9100

Hi all,
I was running XWLPT and decided to try Chameleon 1.3. After flashing, it would not boot up. I've tried all kinds of things for the last 2 days, and read quite a bit. I've even tried the method in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
At the moment, I can get into recovery and I can get to download (power+vol down+middle button). But it's stuck at the Galaxs SII GT-I9100 very beginning boot up. Nothing seems to be working. I've tried several pit repartition and I know it's risky. But at this point, I have nothing to lose I guess.
Can anyone help?

Boot into recovery, wipe data (factory reset), wipe cache and try to flash the custom ROM again.
Good luck !
The issue is, I can't even wipe factory data. It will start and then just sits there, unable to complete the wipe. I'm so out of ideas.

Have you tried upload stock rom to phone on download mode? I saw your checked link, maybe you should try with different stock roms like 2.3.5 and etc.. If you try that, what the say ODIN as error?
Flash a siyah kernel with odin.afther you have cwm...
Inviato dal mio GT-N7000 con Tapatalk 2
First of all stop doing things that you are not sure about...
If you can get into Recovery then your problem is simple.
1. Wipe Data/Factory Reset,
2. Wipe cache partition,
3. Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache,
4. Flash a new rom (from sdcars probably),
5. Wipe cache partition,
6. Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Let me know if this helped.
Hey guys, I apreciate all the responses. panagiostis4te - I am unable to wipe data/factor reset. It just hangs trying to do that. I've let it sit and it never completes.
sinasi11 - ODIN never throws an error. Depending on what firmware I flash, it either get stuck at datafs or data. It just sits there. I've even left it overnight and nothing happens.
I was able to flash to completion a few or the 4.0.4 rom (XWLPF) and it would reboot, show the android logo with animated progress bar. Then it reboots and is then stuck at the Galaxy S2 very first boot screen. I'm so out of ideas.

Questions:
1 . Have you seen This Warning Thread before?
# I don't think so
2. Were you running a safe Custom kernel before flashing Chameleon?
# I don't think so.
Here are my conclusions
1.
You were affected by the infamous Brick bug.
# You should blame yourself for this, for apparently failing to read that sticky warning thread, or even ask questions before messing with your phone while running the Dreadful ICS 4.0.4 firmware!
2.
The reason why your phone is still partially coming on is because you have a partially insane emmc chip.
# If you were using a fully insane chip, your phone would just black out without any sign of life.
3.
Your Nand /Emmc chip is corrupt!
4.
You can try combinations of pit file and ICS bootloader (where suggested). Who knows, you might be lucky
# Visit here and try the suggested solution
## If it doesn't work, then you can try the combinations suggested here.
5.
Jtag service will probably not work for you.
6.
The only (probably) solution (if the suggestions in 4. doesn't work for you), will be for you to replace the motherboard of your phone.
# Changing motherboard costs between $120 to $200
7.
If your phone is still under a valid warranty, the best solution would be to send it to Samsung Service center. Repair if free.
Sorry about what happened to your phone, but you really must shoulder the blame!
jokesy - thanks for the suggestions. I accept the blame. I was running stock and I read the Chameleon 1.3 thread and didn't see any warnings. I thought everything was safe. I guess lesson learned the hard way!

have tried my suggestion 4 yet? any news?
It's a Monday and I've got lots of things I need to take care of I've tried some of the suggestions prior to starting this thread but I'm going to give it another shot. Meanwhile, I'm going to try and survive without a phone for a few days. I'm almost ready to give up. I'm going to work on it more tonight. Will post if I have questions. Thanks again jokesy!
jokesy - I want to report success. I tried several of the pit files and finally at

I seriously don't know but if you have any important thing you want to extract from your backup, follow these steps:
1. Flash siyah kernel
2. boot to CWM recovery,
- dual boot options
- restore ROM to 2nd ROM (you need about 2.1 Gig free in your internal storage)
- done
3. Boot to your Second ROM
- Extract all info you need
4. Restore these info to your 1st ROM
5. you can delete the Second ROM when done, using the same dual boot menu in CWM recovery.
Thanks Jokesy. I did have 2 backups, Titanium and another backup app (name escape me at the moment). I think I'll restore app data and do it that way instead.
Just go back to original OS

You can go back to the original OS using Odin and a package found on many sites for the original Gingerbread that came on it... then go to Kies and update to the ICS and there you go. I have done this several times and unbricked mine after a mod. This was the best way for me.

You said you have Titanium - it can restore elements out of a nandroid backup, almost everything, stright back into place. Much easier than second ROMs.

Good to know. I am actually waiting for my microsd to sd adaptor to arrive. I accidentally formatted my microsd card with all my data in desperation of trying whatever method to format the device. I accidentally selected format emmc. Took out the card immediately, and am hoping to be able to unformat it in windows since it's using fat32. Fingers crossed!

Hi there i have a SGH-i717 with AT&T 2.3.4 Stock installed..I did have Cyanogen 10.1 and Avatar all installed in the last 72hrs..I have wiped all that and did a return to the stock AT&T thinking that my HOME keys would return..NO LUCK..The problems started about 4 days ago when the phone started turning itself off automatically..I changed custom ROM's etc to try and fix the problem..then i read to use Kies to try and do a Firmware Upgrade and Initialization to go back to the start when i first got the phone..But now Kies will NOT recognise the phone..I have re-installed drives, Kies to no avail..Any tips ?
Also someone suggested to flash this kernel h0tcakez-JB-Kernel-v2.3.5-ALT but when i tried through system recovery is gives a falied error..
I have nothing on the phone i need to worry about loosing...Cheers

If you are on stock 2.3.4 and tried to flash that kernel .. that is why it failed .. it would be the wrong kernel for that rom. Did you flash a stock rom in recovery? If so then I would suggest using oden to return to stock . then see what you end up with.

Are we talking about Software ou Hardare issue in your opinion?
Cheers
Could be a hardware issue. Try this ... Put the phone into download mode then connect to the pc. Use the cable that came with the phone. Also use a port on the back of the pc ..not a hub. Then open kies and do the emergency firmware update.
Also ... When you used Odin to go to stock ..you installed the 3e recovery ..that's why it failed to flash. Which is a good thing. That kennel would have boot looped you.

Definitely not a hardware issue, there where some changes made IIRC in the kernel driver files, once flashed they prevented the homerow buttons from working normally, the only way I ever found to make them work right was to flash the Flappjaxxx alternate kernel series, let it boot, then return completely to stock!
If you dig around, FJ's alt kernel's are around here somewhere!

Needless to say, im about to pass out, so im going to make this useless post...
Either I, or someone else can link you to a FJ rom, and the FJ alternate kernel that match, what you will need to do prior is make sure you have EVERYTHING you want/need, backed up to GMail (in the case of Phone logs, SMS and MMS with the Backup to GMail app, yes, im whoring this fantastic app out) AND to your computer, NO not your SD card, but your computer!
Make sure you have the latest recovery (TWRP 2.5.0.0 is what I have, but whatever TWRP is latest will do), wipe everything, then install the rom, boot, wait 10min, reboot into recovery, flash the alt kernel, boot, wait 10min, then test the home/back/menu/search key row, they should work, at this point, you CAN go back to the 2.x.x rom you where running, but if you have an i717, I have had nothing but love for the Stock rom update on AT&T once I performed a complete ODIN to it (flashing the ones here on the forum's resulted in random reboots here and there, and while less then ever before, still annoying, after an ODIN however, havent had a random reboot yet!).
There are issues with the GNote i717 JB release, many posted here, and quite a few here:
http://forums.att.com/t5/Android-Di...getting-Jelly-Bean-update/td-p/3421041/page/5
Including my own rant towards the bottom...
Needless to say, ill try and get on tomorrow to get the right links you will need, or some other kind sirs can...... either way, I have fallen asleep in the middle of writing this, so if something doesnt make sense... well, sleep writing was never my skill of choice
SGH-i717 HOME keys are not working...

READY AND WAITING..THANX
Okay thank you for reply..I am ready to go with the install/flash...
When you get time to direct me to the correct ROM and Kernel i would be much obliged..In the meantime enjoy your rest..Cheers Mick

Bricked, please help [imei code]

After my phone started to get slow, i thought it was a good idea to flash a new rom on it. My first pic was the MIUI roms because those always worked well on my desire. After the rom was flashed i lost connection to my network and i saw that this was a issue that some other people have as well. I tried to do a nandroid restore but even then i still have no connection. I have no idea what to now, please if someone knows anything i would really appreciate it.
Here's how it all went:
1. Flashed MIUI
2. Lost connection
3. Flashed Cyanogen, i thought it was a ROM issue
4. Restored nandroid
5. Back to stock now
Now i'm back where i began, but still without connectivity. I see a few thread about the ESF files, but i'm missing a few files (did a full reset i MIUI).
What are my options now? Am i screwed?
Thanks.

did you try flashing the latest f/w-s i.e., XXEMG4 or later?
The fact that you said *esf* is alone enough to infer you didn't read properly. Is your imei intact ? If not Check for efs backups or else service centre .

I downloaded the rom off of the official MIUI site and it said nothing about EFS. It's not untill i came back to XDA when i first heard about it. It's just a simple typo, i know what the files are.
My phone says i have the "standard" corrupt IMEI; 6400 something.
Download an EMG based official stock rom from sammobile, flash it with odin on your pc.
If that doesn't enable your imei to be read then you need a service centre.

I will try that now.
If i need to go to the service centre, what do i have to do? Flashing back to stock, unroot and what else? Is there anything i have to say to them about how this happened?
Thanks for the help!
No, they will work it out for themselves. There is a thread in general, stickies on how to return to full stock.

[Q] Stuck on Yellow Sprint Screen can not fix with ODIN

I was rooted on a stock rom with n9005 CWM for kitkat. I tried flashing the deodexed version for wifi tether. I didnt realize i needed odexed instead. now i am stuck on the sprint screen upon reboot. i tried using odin to reflash that rom again as well as a Cf auto root. both flashed but still stuck on the same screen upon reboot. I then tried to wipe and clear all data and cashe as well as factory reset from recovery mode. still the same issue. ANY help will be appreciated.
NOTE: i looked for 3 days for help on XDA as well as other sites and can not find anything specific to my case, or anything that will work. Please if you offer help include links as i have searched for everything i could think of.
Have you tried to get the stock tar file and use that in Odin? That would bring you back to complete stock.
is this it
i downloaded this SM-N900P_NAB_Stock_Bootloader.tar.md5 from rwilco12's android repository
is this what you are referencing? or is there a different stock file you are refering to?

First, let's diagnose what's wrong, to see what you need to do to fix it.
Flashing a DeOdex Mod onto an Odex ROM.
This will mess up your system files. What you'll most-likely get is a bootloop (or stuck at startup, which is where you're at). When this happens, you should be able to still access Recovery and Download Modes. This is good news! This means you have many options to fix your phone.
Possible solutions for your problem.
Restore a backup in Recovery.
The first rule when flashing ROMs/Mods is that you read and understand the thread first.
A close second rule is to make a backup before flashing anything.
I doubt that you have a backup, since that would've been the first thing you would've tried. That's ok, we just have to do a little more work to get your phone fixed.
Reflash the custom ROM in Recovery
This doesn't apply to you too much, because you weren't running a custom ROM, just a rooted stock ROM, but I think it's good for others who might have a similar problem. If you had a bootloop issue, you can always re-flash the ROM in recovery. I'd just recommend wiping data, cache, dalvik cache, and system prior to flashing the ROM.
Reflash the Stock ROM in ODIN.
This is the last-case scenario. I'd go to this thread that micmars wrote and follow his instructions very carefully. Doing this should get your phone back to stock. Then I'd re-do the rooting like you did originally (make sure you're using the kit-kat instructions.
Once you get your phone back and running (and rooted), the first thing I'd recommend is to create a nandroid backup in recovery. This will be your life-saver whenever something gets messed up.
Hope this helps!
EDIT:
I figured that I should give you a reason why the CFAutoRoot didn't work for you:
CF Auto Root only modifies certain files. It's not flashing an entire rooted ROM onto your phone, it's just selectively modifying/replacing files so that you have root access. So, when the system is messed up due to flashing a incompatible Mod, CF Auto Root is not likely to fix those issues. Only flashing a stock Rom, like DarkManX4lf suggested.

it stuck on the yellow screen for like 3 minutes and i was sad.... than it worked! THANKS SO MUCH!!!! it all worked greatly. i appreciate everyones help!
Yeah. On a full stock Odin flash, things need a little longer to initialize and set up at the first boot. Even after you boot up completely, it takes awhile for everything to finish and settle down.

[Q] How to Odin?

I'm trying to follow this guide to go from CM10.1.3 to rooted KitKat, which I then plan to de-bloat using Titanium Backup (or similar). It's been so long since I needed Odin that I thought I'd return to this other guide for a refresher.
That just confused me, because it doesn't really cover "how to Odin." It's a very specific guide of "how to return to factory settings/stock condition." Since that's not what I'm doing, I'm hesitant to follow those instructions. I know what files I need to use, I just don't remember how to Odin.
Can someone point me in the right direction? There are a bunch of guides involving Odin, but most of them are "how to use Odin to do a very specific thing," none of which is what I'm trying to do. Is there a very basic "how to Odin" guide that I'm somehow not seeing?
I think I can figure this out, but it seems that flashing up to KitKat is not easily undone (or, it seems, can't be undone at all). So I want to make sure I do it properly, because I feel like I'm essentially burning my ship behind me. So I just want to make sure I Odin properly.

Ok first off.. Odin is not as complicated as everyone seems to make it. If you do not use it in awhile I can understand. It is a very good way to mess up your phone though if you do not flash the correct things..bootloader, modem etc etc..
So you need to download Odin from HERE
Next download the 16GB pit file HERE
Next download MJ9 firmware HERE (Thank OP)
Put your phone into Download Mode (Volume button down, Home button, Power button)
Plug your phone into PC you have Odin on
Open Odin (Should see a yellow COM come up in boxes)
Put the pit file in PIT
Put the MJ9 firmware in PDA
Hit start..
You should be good to flash KK now.. The MJ9 firmware is to update your params and tz to get wifi working and also updates your modem
Now if you want to re lock with NO root and update to KK let me know.. There is more steps..
Or if you have any other ?'s just post here..
Allright. I appreciate the quick how-to. But again, you're not telling me how Odin works. You're giving me specific instructions to solve my problem.
I'm grateful for that, but I'm just going to be asking again in a week when I need to do something slightly different because I still don't know how to use the software. Is there no guide out there explaining Odin in detail? Or even in broad strokes? I just want a quick run-down on what everything in the Odin window means, because none of it is self-explanatory.
Will using Odin do a wipe?
If not, is there an option to have it do a wipe?

Depends what you are flashing and what you check.. If you are flashing a official tar yes it will wipe your phone.. If you are flashing just a modem or recovery, No it will not..
Also, if you check Erase All, it will wipe everything (You should never have to/use this option)

Shouldn't have to use it, or really should avoid it? I'm having problems wiping my phone. Using the wipe/delete/format tools in CWM is for some reason not actually wiping. It's just deleting all my apps and all my settings, but none of the app data. For intsance, the MP3s I've downloaded from Amazon stay, but the app itself is gone. All my Kindle books are still there, but the app is gone. I want to remove everything from the device that might be considered "user data." I could just plug it into my laptop and format the drive, but I don't know if that would affect the OS or the bootloader or anything like that.
So is using the erase all option safe, or will it mess things up?

My suggestion to you would be to flash TWRP. I do not think CWM/Philz has a wipe internal option.. In TWRP it is under Advance Wipe. If you still have issues wiping you may need to pursue down a different road..

Are you wiping internal storage? I don't know how it is done on cwm but with twrp you have to specify you want to wipe internal, totally separate wipe from factory reset, and then confirm it by typing yes.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Okay. I suppose I'll have to look into TWRP. I've always used CWM because it's what I "grew up with," so to speak. But if there's something out there that will better do what I need, I suppose it's time to trade up.

I am not saying twrp is better. I enjoyed using twrp for a LONG time, ui is GREAT. But since 4.3 came out it has had a data corruption bug and sometimes root issues. So no I have used philz for the past couple weeks with aroma file manager and it has been great.
The only reason I recommended twrp was because of the available wipe options and that I do not know of anything like that in cwm recoveries..
