[Q] [ROM IDEA?] Cam Only - HTC EVO 3D

I was thinking about the Camera problems for the 5*5 Evo 3D's.. / hardware 0001
My idea was if it would be possible to create a fastboot / dual boot to only the camera app/rom:
Idea:
Use any rom without the fuctioning camera (like CM9 / CM 7 / ICS rom) and when you want to take photos you boot to a other partition/rom within seconds because it only needs the camera stuff(and thuss shortening the boot time). When you are done taking pictures you can boot back to the other rom and use the pictures there.
Is this possible?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.drx2.bootmanager&hl=de

No it's not like that because all the roms have to start multiple other services that aren't used by the camera. So my idea was a stripped down version of a rom with only the camera funtionality. I know bootmanager will be the used software for switching roms, but is it possible to just build the Cam function only?

I usr bootmanager pro for switching to a stripped down rom for use of the camera and 3D playback when I'm using an ICS rom or other non camera supported rom. It works damn well too, so I would recommend it.

what rom did you strip down(is it Mikrunny, according to your sig?) or do you mind sharing it ? I want to make it fast bootable as possible and maybe even start the cam automatically when it's booted.

Sorry it wasn't, it was RomeOS (I chose this as it had Sense pre-stripped), running zeam launcher and with all non-essential apps, data and .apk files removed via Titanium Backup. Unfortunately I no longer have it so can't share it, but it's a piece of cake to do yourself as long as you know your way around TB .

APPS from 2.2 AOSP to 2.1 AOSP

Hi, got a little question..
just want to know if you can use standard apps from 2.2.1 (like camera, and messages)
to include then in 2.1 rom?
like take the libcameraservice.so etc. and the apk from /system/app and replace them with
the ones from a 2.2.1 ROM
could it work?
thx
Not sure it will.. Often the camera is annoying at this point.. Why don't just flash a 2.2-rom? Then you will be able to use more of the "new" android functions as the push-messages/chrome-to-phone things?

yeah i'm using 2.3 atm, but i want to obtain some knowledge about the system and try some things on an older ROM before messing with newer stuff noticed the camera being hard, don't even know if they'll fix it

[GUIDE] How to get fully camera with deep sleep and 3rd party apps working on ICS ROM

Press THANKS button if this guide helps you.
Since we know that CM9 RC2 is too buggy, we are forced to use RC1 instead, until its fixed by Wayland.
This is just for you guys stop once for all asking about etas and other stuff anoying.
Please, after read this, dont make any question about camera, kernel updates or deep sleep.
Follow this and get the RC1 ROM from Maclaw working with 100% camera from RC2, but without its bugs like GPS and Bluetooth not working, SDEXT not recognized etc...
BEFORE you start flashing this, make sure you have enough space on system/app, because libs and camera app from RC2 are bigger than RC1's. Delete some ringtones you dont use or some apps. The same for kernel, the dev says about 4~5 MB free space, i recommend about 7MB, for kernel and camera app. (delete the CMWallpapers apk, it has 7,04MB, and im sure you dont use it)
1st, download Maclaw's CM9 RC1 ROM
DOWNLOAD
If you already have it, skip this step, if you dont, make a full wipe then flash it. Reboot your phone.
2nd, download Nims Kernel 2.1 with Camera app and libs fully fixed from RC2
DOWNLOAD
You don't need to mount this, just flash it. After flash, reboot your phone. If everything was right, the screen "Updating/Starting Apps" should appear. When the system starts, test the Camera app, it should start normally, if you get some FC screen, or "Cannot conect the camera" message, try to re-open the app. This message will appear sometimes, even in 3rd party apps, like Instagram, but is just you re-open it.
3rd, download the lastest Nims Kernel available
DOWNLOAD version 2.2.1 for ICS ROM
This ZIPs files are from this thread, i just put them together for make it easier for you guys.
I'm not responsable if it bricks your phone.
For me and a lot of people it works.
this was what I needed, now I'll change to ics again and finally I definitely thank you very much

If you follow this guide exactly as you put it, you will end in a bootloop just like me.Explain better
Very good work
Well just tried all the steps above but sadly it isn't working .
After I flashed nim's 2.1 kernel the phone boot into system upgrading screen and stuck there , I did a restart and the phone got stuck on a boot loop.
Flashing nim's 2.2 kernel after that didn't helped either ..
Please explain the procedure in more details.
Thanks Devs!

You might do something wrong...
you dont need to mount system for flashing this zips....
Try to make a full wipe and flash RC1 again, reboot as normal. After that flash cam app and libs with nims kernel 2.1. Reboot again.
Then flash Nims kernel 2.2
Just for guarantee, after you wipe install RC1, delete somethings you dont use in system/app, because cam app is biggest than RC1's.
Some screens of this working properly
Nice tips, thanks. Can I ask you a question??? Does this ROM drains battery much??? The last time I use it, it drains like hell. I need to know if it still drains battery so I can apply your tips

Well got this thing working , Thanks @jmendes.
Edit : After using this ROM for a while I found out that deep sleep isn't working .. ( google location was off )
For me deep sleep works until i take some 5 pics... after that the camera stops and i need to re-open it. Then deep sleep sucks as well :c

ROM stays unchanged. If you had use RC1 when it was out, it keeps the same way. Obviously, battery will drain faster than CM7, but it just need some adjustments by the devs, hope itll fixed in Wayland's release
It might even "work" (not sure if the need for closing and re-opening the camera app several times means fully working...) but I doubt the quality of the pictures will be as good as in a GB based ROM.
For me or anyone who uses the camera sometimes and don't want crappy quality pictures, any ICS or JB ROM shouldn't be considered for now. In fact, without OpenMax drivers I guess we'll never see camera working properly on Galaxy Ace running ICS and JB

Jesus Christ! Fully working for our situation means a app who opens and take a photo with auto focus, flash working properly, with all configurations available with a gallery without bugs AND apps 3rd party accessing camera drivers! It's known that it has a lot of bugs, but its better than an app that just take pictures and break deep sleep resource. Everybody knows that OpenMax drivers wont be release for us, and a camcoder wont be available either, bbut they are really working hard to give us a decent camera. The quality is the same on GB. As you said, "shouldnt be considered for now" so dont use it. If you think it's not worth it, stay with your 2.3 version.

Hmm, you said that flash is working properly ... is the LED working for flashlight apps as well in this ROM ? Last time I tested CM9, it wasn't working and flashlight is very very useful, can't live without it. If yes, I'll try it.
By "camera working properly" I meant taking photos with good quality, and auto-focus and flash both working. That is enough. I did'nt say "fully working".

Go until Wayland's CM9 topic and you will see that for this he will need to put a modified app for flashlight working. But still works.
And yes, the quality keeps as in GB. With auto focus, flash and cam modes working rightly

possible to use official stock camera app ?

im currently using cm 10.1 on p769 (tmobile) but i find that the generic camera app is lacking quality ...is it possible to use the stock jelly bean camera app that originally came with the phone ?/ would i need libs from original rom ? or woould the apk be enough ....and if some one would be so kind as to back it up for me and upload it ,,,i dont feel like flashing stock just to get the apk and flash back to cm 10
no one ???
It would do no good. CM10 is probably deodexed, right? So it would be a pain. That's just my opine.
Sent from my LG-P769(20F) using the xda-developers app. If I helped you please hit the "thanks" button.
Why would you want to? I mean, technically, you can do anything with a rooted droid. But I find CyanogenMod superior in every way, espescially when it comes to updates. Besides, the stock camera app wouldn't blend as well with CM's UI. That's just my two cents. If you want to get that camera app running just ask me though and I can try to help you get a deodexed version I guess.
Hello there. I to would like to use stock camera on CM 10.1 or 10.2
My point is that on stock camera app videos recorded in worse light are smooth. On CM they are cutting.
CM is deodexed, and stock is not. If i'm right. But there are deodexed and modified ROMs (Jellycream)
If I install CM and delete/uninstal app camera/gallery and put in its place stock apps would it be working ?
What files do I need ?
Thanks for any help.
P.S. Sorry for my english
If someone were to port the stock l9 camera to cm10, would we have 1080p recording?
Ok. I have CameraApp.apk from stock rom. Could someone tell me where in CM 10.2 system files hides camera app co i could exchenge it with stock ?

CM camera code are in Gallery.apk, I think you don't want to touch it. Just add CameraApp.apk to /system/app/ if you want to try to port it. But I and other people have tried that before but no success. You also need lge-res.apk in /system/framework/ to run LG camera. Maybe I miss some lib the last time I tried.
Thanks, i'll try it and let you know.
Other question - mayby there is a way to, or modified camera app, or other camera app where video recording doestn lag like on CM cam. On stock video recordings are smooth in any light condition, but on CM its terrible.

[Q] New and needing direction

I am fairly new to the Android scene, and even newer to the rooting scene as well.
I am a A+ computer tech, that said I know nothing about Android, rooting or customizing the interface and am learning daily, I have been told by associates that the xda forums are the best resource for finding stable usable custom ROMs and information,
so I enrolled to pick some brains and hopefully learn a few things.
now since my ability to search forums has always has always been "top notch", (Pinocchio's nose got nothing on me by that statement), I'm sure I'll be asking questions that have been asked a bunch of times, I respectfully ask that in stead of flaming me, please just post a link to the proper forum post and I will be greatly appreciative.
question 1.
where do I find a rom install guide for idiots, primarily for a galaxy player 5.0 YP-G70
question 2.
what is the most stable and fully functional ROM for my YP-G70, when I say fully functional I mean camera and all, as I have been reading there are issues with newer ROMs with the back facing camera, and I need the camera to be fully functional as I use it almost daily at work for lables and assembly/disassemby pictures., I've heard that Cyanogenmod is one of the best out there, is there a fully functional and stable version that will work with my YP-G70?
question 3.
an idiots guide for what can be accomplished by rooting and how to do it, such as turning off adds, removing or moving stock programs and settings etc.
there will always be more questions but I won't push the noob envelope to much, these three are my most pressing

The short answer here is stick with stock. The rear facing camera has been a problem on every ROM, except stock based roms. There are some workarounds but If you need good quality photos from rear cam then stock based is your only solution...
Thank you both for the info and direction.
I know to keep something stock is to keep it original.... but what do you mean stock based? an original ROM that has been stripped but the core and drivers are the same?
and what stock based ROM would you recommend for my GP5.0 yp-g70 that might give me a little better performance and nice appearance?
also I haven't had a chance to explore all the information yet, but can someone give me a link to a good source of direction on how to use titanium backup, or some other app to back up my device, OS and apps so if I should get something not to my likeing I can revert back to original.
and thanks again for no flaming

Scroll down to "5.0 (stock based)"
"Stock based" simply means a modified stock ROM. "stock" sort of meaning; a ROM from the manufacturer. I haven't personally tried any of the stock based ROMS. They may have issues. Im only saying that it is the stock and stock based ROMS that have the potential to have a fully working rear cam. You have to read in each post to find out if there are issues.

[REQUEST] Stock Honor 7 PLK01 Camera App

Hey, I am using CM 13 Rom and since all camera apps are such a trash I would like to use stock Honor 7 camera. Can you please someone post the APK file if it is possible? Thanks
Edit: after some research I found out that camera app need some pther libraries. Does anyome of you have a flashable zip? + Does anyone has compass app (same as camera - flashable zip)?
Stock camera app is yet to be ported. Don't know about compass though.

The app name is Camera. Have u tried to search the app in the app drawer ? How bout Apps in settings? If the zip file is flashed n installed correctly then it should appear in apps in settings. Btw, the rom u used is based on which kernel version? Like B380 or B330. Maybe the zip file i provided is for different version

cm style by wbt is a stock based rom. It's EMUI which aims to look like cm.
I used free cm rom by papsi as a daily for a few weeks and it was plenty stable for daily use (if you don't mind inferior battery life to emui). Wifi worked fine, the camera was buggy.

It's nearly impossible to port the stock EMUI camera to other stock based ROMs, because of closed source code and - as you mentioned before - due to the fact that the libraries causig problems. The camera from the Honor 7 is simply too deep interested into EMUI. :silly:
