[Q]Very odd Internal Storage issue - fully corrupted - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was up until 1:50AM last night trying to fix this and had to wake up t 6:25 for work - let's just say this won't be a fun day. I was able to recover maybe 30 pictures and partial files from the TiBu folder but nothing useless - no .apks. With R-Studio I was able to see the full root structure but it was completely corrupted. Recuva found some spare pictures and TiBu files as well. Most of what I was able to recover was renamed and just categorized by file type.
I'm trying to figure out how this happened though. This is what I remember:
* I plugged the phone in to copy over a video. Deleted some extra folders from the /sdcard. Unplugged without ejecting as it's MTP and there is no actual eject.
* That's when I started to notice it. My Beautiful Widget skins were back to stock. Minimalist Text Widget was back to stock as opposed to my barcode font. When I replugged my phone, I saw the full root structure and files, yet not were able to be accessed. Fast forward a couple minutes, 11.3GB out of 11.3GB free.
* I went to flash a GB rom as it uses USB Mass Storage so I can run data recovery. Both UnOriginal and MIUI, yet during the initial setup I couldn't even get passed the Language selection as it kept saying click on the Android yet nothing happened when I did - in addition I kept getting Framework and GApps errors. I restored my AOKP backup and found a USB Mass Storage APK and was able to run a data recovery but that's when everything came up corrupted.
Oh yeah, while all this is going on my system files are all perfectly fine. Nothing is wrong with the AOKP install. All apps, texts, call logs, settings are as they were.
Sorry for the wall of text, but anyone had any issue like this before? I'm trying to figure out exactly what happened and if the internal SD is indeed corrupt or was it a 'one-time' type of thing.
I mean, I had Maxtor drives fail in a similar way quite a few times but never with keeping the partition and basically formatting itself while corrupting ever file during a recover.
Very odd....

[Q] Corrupted Internal Memory

Hello people. I have a 32 GB Wi-Fi only Tab, running seraphimserapis' CM9 preview kang.
I'll dive right into things here. Earlier today, I flashed the above ROM, everything went perfectly, booted up just fine, and got all my apps back up and running. I was using my tab fine for the entire day with no problems to speak of. Later in the day, I began transferring some misc. files (documents, music, etc) to my internal SD card via MTP USB transfer. After the transfer was complete, I unplugged my tab, and went on my merry way. The next time I booted up, everything began FCing on me, and nearly every app I tried to open immediately FCed. Thinking it was a temporary bug, I rebooted my tab, but the same problem persisted, multiple different processes fced upon boot, and almost all my apps would fc as soon as I opened them. After trying a few more times, I gave up, and booted back into CWM (which I can do perfectly fine), cleared cahce and delvik cache, and did a factory reset. This however, seemed to only augment the problem. Upon booting up (after doing that initial tab setup), trebuchet FCes (in a "FC loop", as it continually tries to open), and the tablet is completely unusable. I have tried wiping cache, reformatting and rebooting several times, each time with the same result
I am able to get into settings however, by plugging in the tab, and clicking USB debugging (for whatever reason, settings does not FC), and am able to connect to my internal memory via MTP. When the tab pops up in my computer, it says I have 25 GB out of 28 available GB, but when I click on the folder, it is completely empty. If i try to move files over to my tab, or even create a new folder, I get an error message saying "the device has stopped responding or has been removed". (Pictures below)

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/3395/61277691.jpg
I do not believe this is a problem with the rom for two reasons. (1) no one else has had this problem (to my knowledge), and (2) it was working fine the whole day, until i did that file transfer (that being said, this is my own amateur opinion, which you may choose to completely disregard it in your diagnosis). I am 99% sure I didn't unplug the tab while files were still transferring, but I did not unmount the storage or eject it or anything fancy of that nature before I unplugged it.
My question is, is there any way I can somehow reformat the internal memory of my tab? Otherwise, is there some other possible fix you experts may possibly have? Or am I screwed?
I apologize in advance if you ask me to try something and I cant respond promptly. Its 3AM here and i need to wake up early tomorrow. Thank you in advance
Edit:
I am quite convinced there is some kind of internal memory corruption problem here, but I really am not an expert enough to know for certain. The tablet still boots up fine, but is completely unusable as trebuchet fc loops 90% of the time i reboot the tab. Obviously, the entire thing isnt trashed as it appears to boot and get into the system fine, but I it's still completely unusable from that point on.
I have tried formatting the /data and /cache partitions of the internal memory to no avail. I would try formatting /system, but from my understanding, thats only advisable if you are able to flash a new rom after formatting, but if i cannot write into my internal memory, then there's no way i can flash a new rom. Conveniently enough, I deleted the .zip file for the rom off my internal sd, and i cannot access my clockworkmod recovery from CWM (gives an error, I don't think that would have worked anyway) since the internal sd is (i believe) corrupted. I also tried mounting as USB from CWM, and that also gives an error...
I am clean out of ideas. I'm not sure if this is a completely unfixable problem, or if self repairing is well within the realm of possibility. If someone can shed some light on me that would REALLY be appreciated. Otherwise i might have to send it back to sammy (still under warranty), which i dont mind doing, but if they boot it to find an ICS rom, they probably wont be so keen to repair it...perhaps there's a way to brick it further so they can't tell?
UPDATE 2:
Problem fixed! I still don't have a clue as to what the problem was, but thankfully I managed to escape out of this one. I tried pushing a new ROM via adb, and it worked (apparently), but this just forced me into a boot loop (never hit the homescreen).
As a last ditch effort I pushed the stock ROM, and completely removed root, and it worked. I can now boot up past the spash screen without all all my processes crashing. Really a strange issue, I have my theories, but they're probably blatanly wrong so I'll just keep them to myself. Im just glad I don't have to send it back to sammy... I plan to re-root shortly. I am confident I will get no further issues.
Even though no one helped me directly, it was thanks to the plethora of information available on this forum that I was able to resolve my issue...and for some reason, making a thread where I'm just talking to myself helps a bit too...maybe im just weird. Anyway if anyone's reading this, thanks again xda

I'm hoping you see this reply as its been quite a while since you've had the issue. I'm working with a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket with the same intenal memory corruption/ files system corruption you were facing. I followed what you did regarding push a rom thru adb and that worked for me, but my question is, how did you get the roms to successfully write if you couldnt write to internal memory? My system is mounted as read only apparently and locked itself with whatever I had on there on August 28th. No matter how many times I format, erase, or wipe it, it returns to the same state as if its a deep lock on it.

[Q] Can't find/install .apk files?

So I was having some issues with my S3. Boiled down to a factory data reset. Used TiBu to back everything up. For some reason decided to re-backup a game cause I wasn't sure if it had been initially. Used Astro for all of this. Had the new game backup on the internal, moved the whole folder (with just the game files in it) to the SD card and merged it with the similarly named folder on my SD card. Popped the SD card out, did the FDR. And here's where everything went wrong.
Firstly the message "Unfortunately, Messages has stopped working" appears every time I start my phone and the Messages app freezes the phone whenever opened, this has caused me to have to get a replacement phone. But the main issue was when I opened TiBu to restore, and none of my backups were there, nor were they on the card itself anymore.
Somehow they were deleted or corrupted or something when I merged the two folders. So I found a data recovery program which was able to find all of the "com.android" blah blah files from the back up. I restored a few of them to test it out, put them back on my phone, I can see them in Astro, but no app installer will detect them. Wtf?? So close...
I was devastated with this loss, so much data in there. So when this program was able to find it all again, a sparkle of hope appeared. Please tell me I'm just missing some crucial little step here, the files look exactly like the original backup files. Same size, combination of numbers, everything. Non-Market Installation is checked and I'm rooted on stock. Please someone be my savior!!
well..... you can go back completely to square one by flashing a stock firmware you can get them from sammobile.com
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Hm, well your response is much appreciated. However, that's pretty much the exact opposite of what I want to do. I'm trying to restore .apk files that I can see in Astro but AppInstaller won't detect, not flash back to stock.
Thanks anyways...

[Q] [Help] Important system files appear to be missing.. yet phone sort of works?!

The problem:
In CMW recovery, in internal sdcard, it only shows 3 folders.. 0/, Legacy/ and obb/. graphical glitches are a constant occurrence as well as forced closes from something as simple as changing the volume.
How it happened:
Had resurrection remix v3.1.1 installed successfully for about 2 months; download v3.1.3 for update/install, follow instructions as per given by the creator on RR website for update/install. make system backups before installing/update. install RR v3.1.3 using the same selections as v3.1.1, then after reboot; resolution is low, large text, constant "system.etc" has stopped working.
no worries, i made a system backup.. boot into recovery, internal sdcard is empty, EMPTY.
subsequently crap self, then decide to install (instead of update) from scratch RR v3.1.4 to see if it fixes issues and replaces files; successful install...ish (resolution fixed but still some graphical errors and force closing but not as many) but sdcard only shows 3 folders.. 0/, Legacy/ and obb/.
the phone still calls, texts, etc
is there anyway to restore missing files???
any help would be appreciated
Josh
Sounds like a messed up rom.
Flash something else and see.Wipe data+cache+dalvik after flashing a different rom.
Flashing a ROM or indeed a different ROM won't get the data back on your SDCard (and when you say SDCARD, do you mean external SD or internal phone memory (also referred to as an SDCard))
If your external SDCard has been corrupted your only chance is some sort of recovery/unwipe app for WIndows or, if the data is really important, a data recovery specialist.
If its the internal phone memory then I'm not sure what you can do. There certainly should be more folders than that I would have thought.
Have you looked at the structure within those folders you mention?
EDIT: My bad. I see you put internal card.

Help please! Images not working

Hello,
Ive recently been having a really annoying flaw with my system, i'm still unable to identify if my phone has caught some form of a virus or if theres something thats changed and not allowing my phone to function correctly.
Please be patient as i have a bit to explain in order to give you guys the full picture of my problem so that it can hopefully be fixed.
Ok so initially everything was working fine and there was no problems. I personally believe but i may be wrong the problem started when i downloaded ttorrent pro apk via a google link and inadvertently provided the installed app with much more access to my phone that was required. Having realized that the app was incorrect i immediately removed it from my phone using titanium backup. i also removed all data and cache at the same time.
So i took some photos whilst on my cousins stag in Barcelona a short time ago and the images were taken whilst i was on 4.2.1, but once i came home and collaborated my photo's and videos with a couple from the stag (they were using the s4) the images became corrupt. I had a full backup of these images on my Mac and they are all ok and can be viewed with no difficulty. The problem arises when i put the folder back onto my android device. Since i have tried a few method to fix this issue but to no avail. All virus check on both the phone and the folder of photos on my mac came back all clear.
The photo's are stored on my External SD Card which is brand new and seems to work fine. This Ex SD Card is not the same as the one i used on the stag(it broke and i purchased a new one since). I often found sometimes that the folder names were changing aswell in the External SD Card, for example i would import 7 folders which all contained images. after a short while, 3 of them would corrupt and the folder name would change to eg. ulbum. With the u being the u from utorrent.
The thing is the images are there to be seen in my files on the android but with no thumbnail and the images do not load. But some of the images in the same folder to seem to work. Ive tried using alternative galleries to see if this fixes the issue but it didnt seem to work. It really frustrating as ive tried so many method and got so many people involved.
Please provide me with some further suggestions because i cant seem to find anyone with the exact same problem.
Thank You in advance
Factory reset, format your SD card (with SD tool) and try again - without transferring anything from your PC. If everything works at that point then probably a virus or SD corruption.
If still the same then flash a fresh stock ROM with Odin, don't use the SD initally to prove the hardware isn't faulty.
Also check your phone bill, warez has a habit of dialling premium rate lines in China for days on end. Never install anything to found on google, if you can't find it on XDA then it probably isn't legit.

Thank You for your quick response. I've done a factory since the problem, flashing back an omega rom on my device. The problem still continued. The photo's can be viewed fine on my Mac...it seems to happen when i move them over to my phone as shown in the pictures in the top post.
I've run a scan on the images on my Mac and it came back all clear. Originally this whole corruption was apparent with one main folder which was of a stag do last month. Since my most recent attempt a further folder is no longer working. This was a album taken over a year ago on my iphone. The videos however from my album last month have started worked :S
This is all abit strange as ive taken a set of photos with the camera app and they dont seem to become corrupt. But ive put the images on a friends SD Card and put that in my phone and it seems to happen to that album aswell. Is there a further internal root which may have become infected and making this happen by targeting certain pic's/albums in my gallery.
My friend is adamant the photo's have become corrupt but they work perfectly on my MAC.
Ive formatted this SD Card on atleast 10 different occassions aswell.
If your phone was rooted then yes, system partition can be changed by virus. Flash a stock ROM with Odin and format the SD.

I agree with your friend. Your pictures must be corrupted or the filesystem on your external SDCard is corrupted too.
Try to copy all your files into a safe place (your Mac HDD) and verify that all files are done.
After, format this ExtSDCard (with the phone for example) et refill the SDCard. Check if I solve the problem.

[Q] Corrupt gibberish files refuse to be deleted

Hi, I'm in desperate need of help, please.
I'm using SGS2. Several months ago my device suddenly started acting weird, thumbnails in gallery didn't load, apps didn't refresh (instagram, facebook etc.)... Rebooting would help but only for a certain amount of time, until it suddenly started to happen again. I realised the internal SD card simply becomes read-only randomly, but I didn't know why. I made peace with it since I'm not a big smartphone user.
Anyhow, today I went through my phone files and saw that several cache folders were oddly big, so I deleted a ****load of files, and then(!!) that one folder would not delete... So I clicked it and saw a bunch of gibberish files that do not want to get deleted.
I tried SD Maid app, but the thing is, once I browse to that specific corrupt folder the SD card goes crazy and becomes read-only, so basically at that moment I realised that folder is what's making the phone act like this.
Connecting it to PC and deleting doesn't work either. Renaming the files doesn't work. Copy/paste does work but is useless. Factory reset/installing new ROM/kernel/whatever doesn't work either. The files will still be there, I've tried.
Anything, please?

What rom were you using when the errors started happening?
What have you tried as far as flashing roms/kernels/custom recoveries?
I'm using Omega v24 XWLSW (4.1.2). What I did was factory reset and every single format option in that CWM recovery screen. I then flashed that same ROM again but fresh.
I don't think this has anything to do with ROM/kernels etc. This is simply a bunch of corrupt files in Device\sdcard\Android. I've tried googling with no success. I need a way to forcibly delete that folder with all those files inside. Any directions on how format?

The first thing I would try is to reinstall a stock samsung rom. This sometimes is the only way to fully reset your phone back to original condition. Sammobile.com is the website I have used. You would have to root again but....
Also check out this thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/qa-friendly-qa-thread-t1648351
There are some similarities with possible corrupt partitions another guy has(the last few pages of thread), that they are trouble-shooting. You might find some answers there.

Hey mate.
If you haven't fixed the problem i recommend performing a checkdisk.
To perform a checkdisk you need to:
1. Connect your phone through USB via mass storage mode.
2. The computer should prompt you to perform a checkdisk automatically, in that case just accept and let the computer perform it. If it doesn't prompt automatically you need to do it manully by right-clicking the correct partition on the computer, click properties and then on the 'Tools' bar. Now mine is in Swedish, i don't know how it is in english but press the button on the first alternative. (i.e the button with 'Control' and the administrator logo).
After pressing, just let it be (it will take quite a while) and when finished.. tell me if it worked or not.
Good luck!
Hey, I tried chkdsk and defrag just in case, the files are still there, although some of them are now gone. My phone doesn't go crazy anymore though, which is nice. Maybe I'll just let the corrupt files be there in peace, they won the war XD And as long as my phone works properly I don't really care about them.
Thanks everyone!
