Been playing about with the Modaco 2.2 ROM and just wondered if anyone knows a way to change the following:
The message editor now automatically puts a space after a full stop. Can this be disabled?
Also, the length of time needed to long press a shortcut on the home screen seems to have increased. Can this be changed back to the default setting?
Thanks
Yeah, these are new 'quirks' native to the new ROM revision, but i'm almost sure these kind of tweaks are not gonna happen until the Hero kernels get officially released from HTC to allow a lower level of system customisation.
I'm afraid we just gotta live with it until the kernel code is released and some of the guys on this forum get cooking some optimized ROMs for us all.
Not long now hopefully...
I can live with the longer long press, but the full stop thing drives me mad. If you leave it to add its own space, it doesn't realise you've started a new sentence and therefore doesn't capitalise the letter of, or correct the next word. If you do press space it's fine, but then you get two spaces!
Well i've found that if you press space twice you get a full stop and proper capitalisation, like the iphone.
Still, I don't know why they had to alter the behaviour of the full stop button, I prefer to press it then press space. The two methods could have run alongside eachother.
Id like to know if it can be possible to make the home button when pressed a longer time a way to kill the application actually in use ? Instead of manually close it ?
to replace the opening of tasks managers ?
In CM7 there is an option to long press the back-button to close the app.
actually I'm on checkroom with siyah and latest 1.7 theme from vert and I like everything about it except this function is missing for me since I came from iPhone !
im not sure if I want to reflash a new rom for it
Moved as not development.
no one have a little idea about it ? except the cm7 rom ?
Hi, I'm using kang ics rom now.
I saw that in the task rom,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340064
There are some extra stuff like touch widz task manager.
It mentions in the description just flash in cwm.
Is it safe to do that?
My instinct tells me it won't work so easily, but just want to be sure.
Why can't it work anyway?

ICS already has a better support for task manager, Where you would need to hold home button in the HC, ICS has a vastly improved multi-tasking system which is accurate, Some people don't know but you need to press the Multi-task key and slide the app from left to right to close it. Same goes with notifications.
That itself is the task manager for ICS. You aren't able to do this on HC ROM's.
I wouldn't add them in ICS because the default launcher's are different, and HC has horrible multi-tasking system.

hi, i am aware of the ICS task manager swipe to close.
but its slow. example i have 5 apps open, i would have to swipe one, wait for the animation to fall. then swipe another. its actually really slow.
on HC touch widz task manager, i can tap tap tap very fast to close app. and there's the all mighty "end all" button that is really good.
able to know how much ram is available is an added bonus as well.
as much as the ICS task manager is cool and nice, it has a big bug.
it display both "Recent app" AND "running app" without letting us know which is which. even if i exit one app the proper back way, it will appear in the task manager. which is silly. :-(
if i add the touch widz one, i was hoping to keep both ICS and HC touch manager. no harm to have both.
back to the question, is it possible to flash it without problem?
Well you can try it, not telling you that human curiosity is bad, but atleast make a backup just so you can revert if ever human curiosity didn't turn out so good
I however am confused, how is the animation slow? I mean I can swipe it fast to let it close faster, I like the animation however makes it feel, fluid? Less transitions and more smoothness. As far as I know that's just some consumer benefit, animation goes smooth, user thinks "AH GOOD SIR TABLET IS BLOODY FAST". Works if you ask me .
Well ICS is still kang/alpha release, so it's not perfect but it's good for everyday use compared the previous builds which was barely usable I don't even know if ICS has a standalone task manager o.o

are you using a ics kang rom now?
hard to explain, but if you do this, you will get what i mean.
open 10 random apps.
try as fast as you can to close them all. you will spend at least 10 seconds no matter how fast you swipe.
on touch widz task manager, i'm sure you can make 10 taps in less than 5/6 seconds. or the "end all" which is instant all close.
i may be too picky...lol...but as you said, human curiosity is hard to resist.
so if i do a nandroid backup, and something screws up, i can revert back to my usual state, no risk involved?

Yes I am on the Kang ROM @ build 25 atm.
There is that, Flash and probably end up glitchy
OR
You can download Advanced Task Killer on the Market for free might I add, which almost does the same as Task Manager
Also Nandroid backup's are amazing, they are the time machine's for Android devices. Restores everything the way it was, ...before human curiosity
thanks, i'll try out the advance task killer.

Sure And the verdict is?
not so well.
no wonder its called "advance" task manager.
it display all the process and service behind as well.
i just want a simple task manager to let me know which is currently running app.
if i tap kill all, it will kill ALL back ground process, which i know is more of a battery waste. i know that task manager that kills process is not a good thing.
I installed AOSP ICS beta for Neo the other day, and saw some ports of the on-screen buttons for back, home, and recent apps. that's awesome, but it takes up a whole lotta screen space. I love the recent apps button, and would love it integrated with the system UI without taking up screen space. Any chance of devs acomplishing that? (maybe integrate it with the status bar, or some hot corner or something)
i hate long-pressing the home button to use that function

Tried it even tried the 25dpi one, but i can't shake the feeling that it's taking up screen real-estate. For example, when i play a video in landscape mode, it's still there, and i dont wanna look at it while watching a video. Also having 2 home and back buttons is kinda absurd xD but just the recent apps button, that's out of your way, would be neat
I turned this feature on for us that want them bro
lots of users like
I will have a look into this later its possible but different then on gingerbread
Back up as always if you don't like flash back

Didn't say there was something wrong with it i'm sure lots of users like it, and I thank you for your hard work! It's just that it doesn't suit my workflow, lets say this is a suggestion to a different implementation if possible

So ive been search around for a while now on how to fix this. And to anyone that chimes in and says why do you need the menu button obviously you don't use older apps, the new touch button on the screen is a huge annoyance especially since i've used my phones this way since my first S1. Regardless this is how i want it and so do many other people.
Currently this is only for a rooted phone
I have figured out how to remap the left soft key from the App Switcher/Multi window over to the old style menu key. Instructions for that can be found here
But now i don't have any way of switching to my currently open apps, after remapping the left key, the longpress now takes you to search. and long pressing on the home button also takes you to another variation of the search (both i dont use nor want). I want to be able to remap my left softkey on longpress to open up currently open apps (APP_SWITCH) and it would be nice if long pressing on Home could open the Task Manager as it did on my S3.
As far as i can tell editing of the longpress function is done via a Policy edit. Read about that HERE
Keep in mind that post is from 2014 so i have no idea if the internal code is still being handled the same way, i couldn't even find that file on my S6, but i did find a file called SEPOLICY in my root folder using ROOT EXPLORER. Do any of you know more about this and how I can go about changing this? im sure its a code level adjustment. Thanks
Long-press home button can be controlled without root easily.
Check out this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spada.nowgesturetweaksfree
I use the long-press home to get to my last used app.
I wonder if I can remap my buttons to launch any other apps.. Will have to tinker around a bit.

very useful. menu for navigation is long long outdate. software nave or 3 dots is the customary way to go. adding a secondary menu button is redudant and unnecessary. my little ewww comment brought a lot to the table. you tryingt to call me out on it is less useful.

lol f off
If you guys use Dropbox, how do you get to the menu with SORT, etc.. without a menu key. This is making me crazy. I'm using nova launcher and there is no floating menu key. ????
The problem is if not every developer uses it, it's inconsistent.
It often helps if the options etc. In apps are on the top, so you don't have to fidget with your phone to reach the top or use two hands.
The menu button on every app is positioned somewhere else, so I find the op wanting it justified.
All in one gestures let's you remap every key, for some odd reason on my s4 I can remap the menu key, but on the S6 for some odd reason the option of the menu key has vanished in the same app:what:

Hi pal. Hope it helps. Make 254 button remap, then install nova launcher, in tab gestures select long press menu and then recent app. Profit! Now once tapped you have menu button, long pressed - recent apps.
So, i made it, i use it. It works.
