[Q] how to unbrick samsung gt-i5500? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I have recently bricked my samsung i5500 by flashing it with wrong software(that's what I think anyway). Phone is not responding at all. The screen is black at all times. I've tried volume down + ok + call end with no effect also UnBrickableMod didn't help. Is there any way to get it to work again? Thanks.

Try flashing a stock ROM from samfirmware.com...use ODIN...you can obtain the instructions easily from google...

If you can get into download mode, then just use odin to flash to stock. If not you could use a jig to get into download mode if no button combinations work.

First of all thanks for you reply. Second of all: no button combination works so I can't get it into download mode and I don't use Windows. I have Ubuntu on my netbook and Odin won't work under wine because wine doesn't support usb ports. Is there any way of getting it into download mode on Ubuntu?

Is there a possibility of breaking it completely if I use homemade usb jig with slightly different resistors? I mean +/- 20k.
EDIT: usb jig won't work. any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT 2: went to Carphone Warehouse and they gave me brand new phone Problem solved.

Our spare GT15500 just went blank on me as well, no button combos work, I dont have a jig or know what one is. Its rooted with stock 2.2.

[Q] Might have hard bricked my phone

So I was trying to root new Galaxy s2.. long story short, I think I hard bricked it.
The device won't power up; or at least the screen won't show anything.
I can't get to Download Mode.
Is there anyway I can save my new 400 dollar investment?
How are you trying to get into download mode ? Hold the volume down, home button and the power button at the same time. When you get the Samsung screen, release the power button but keep holding the volume down/home buttons until you get into download mode.
If you really can't get into download mode your options are:-
1) Get a jig. This would be your last chance to get into download mode before sending it off for repair.
2) Find someone near you who does JTAG repairs. This option will be cheaper than paying for Samsung to repair your phone.
3) Return the phone to Samsung. As you've tried to root the phone, there's a fair chance you'll end up paying for said repair as this voids your warranty. On the other hand you might be one of those people who get lucky and Samsung fixes your phone under warranty regardless. A roll of the dice essentially.
Edit - Remove your battery & leave it out for a minute or so before trying to get into download mode.
Or failing options 1 & 2 already suggested then perhaps option 2a..
Apply a current to the sim connectors under the battery and make sure it never evers boots again, Samsung won't know what's happened to it and will repair/replace FOC.
(I find an old laptop PSU minus connector plug usually applies enough current for this)
Hehehehe ;-) Damn that brought back memories Uridium. I used to do that with Sega Mega Drive cartridges. However, I'm not sure we should be suggesting same on here. Not exactly ethical and bordering on fraud tbh

Looking at JIGS on Ebay, I'll probably get one from there.
So how would I use that?
Plug it in to get to Download Mode then take it out and plug in USB connection to my PC?
I'm still unaware of which correct firmware to put it, so this is so scary :[

Haha I will try the JIG method first.
But thanks for the devious idea ;]
Yep. Look for "Samsung Galaxy S2 download mode jig" or something like that on eBay. Shouldn't be more than a few bucks. When you get it, make sure the phone is off, plug the jig in the usb port & if you're lucky the phone will boot into download mode. Yeah, once you're in download mode, remove the jig, plug a USB cable in/connect to your PC then flash your firmware of choice via Odin.
We can worry about which firmware to flash once you're able to get it to boot with a jig tho. Post back here when you get it & then we can work out which firmware to go with.

Thanks for your help! The JIG should arrive by Friday. Till then.. back to my iPhone 3G, yuck.
Hey I have an idea, why don't you tell us how you think you bricked your phone.
Because, for example, if you've flashed a bad Kernel then your phone may seem bricked (it has all the characteristics) but can be recovered by someone who knows what to do. Likewise, if you were flashing something with Odin and you had a sudden spasm attack and pulled the USB out, you've bricked your phone. Tell us what you did and we can give a proper reply.
EDIT: If the phone is only soft bricked and you can get into DL mode with a JIG, you go can it without one.

Well, first I was using odin to root it by changing the kernel. But I think I was using the wrong version and then I got "firmware is wrong. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again."
Then I tried to put back 2.3.4 and that's where I think went wrong. I unplugged the phone because it was just stuck with Odin on for over 10 minutes.
Then now I can't even turn it on.

If Odin hadn't finished its business and you unplugged your phone then yea, you've probably bricked it. Cases like these is why I never use Odin, its beta software which even the developers don't fully understand how it works. Even if through no fault of your own, Odin can fail, and that leaves you pretty well ****ed. Try the JIG, you may have unplugged it when it wasn't flashing something important, but yea, I'd start making up a really good excuse to get a new phone.

If the JIG is able to get it to go to download mode, would that mean for sure I can fix the phone?
And if the JIG cannot bring it to download mode, am I screwed with this phone?
If you do manage to get into download mode your phone can be saved otherwise yeah you are pretty much screwed

i just cant understand how people break their phones like this?
If you dont know what your doing theres a good reason not to flash your phone right there.
Saying that... i hope the jig works for you.

I do all my rooting and modding just fine for my HTC Thunderbolt. I was being careless and wasn't thinking about this carefully yesterday.
This is why we have xda with all its great users and help.
I had problems with my sgs2 when i first got it and my problem was solved with a different usb cable. I was using a cheap usb cable and when i tried an original worked a treat.
Just a thought if ya get it yo power up again.

Well it might be possible to Unbrick your phone without Jig, but solution has not worked for 100% user, though it has worked for me(I'm not sure it was hard brick). So here are the steps:
1- Start Odin
2- Attach the USB cable to the PC (DO NOT ATTACH IT TO THE PHONE)
3- Press and hold "Volume up" and "home" buttons
4- Attach the USB cable to the phone while holding both buttons
5- The phone will enter in download mode
Just flash the stock kernel after that.
And don't forget to THANK me if it works

[Q] SGP 5.0 U.S. Ver. HARD BRICKED! HELP!!!

Hi, I'm pretty new to Android and stuff, but I bricked my SGP 5.0 with a mod.. At first I was able to go into download mode but then I think I flashed the wrong firmware and now the device is completely unresponsive. Any advice on what to do would be great. I also already checked out all the forums on here but none have been able to work for me. Thanks in advance!
Yup. I was in the same boat as you. Exact same one actually. However i managed to get best buy to to switch mine out because i said it was "defective". I tried the linux tutorial with resurrector and nothing as well. And i also tried.... Well everything. From my thread i posted I gathered that no one (at leasr on xda) knows how to unbrick these damn things. So until these get more popular. Your sunk. Sorry pal:/
try the resurrector.. it's worked for me on a few occasions. it brought mine back from not even being able to turn on.
one thing that's not incredibly obvious with it though is you have to hold "vol up" for download mode while the program is doing its thing. if you don't hold the button it wont work.
Tried it.
I tried that already though and it wouldn't let me unbrick it, but I'll give it another try with what you said about the Vol.+Up keys! Thanks!
I don't have a 4.0 player but my 5.0 player was bricked initially the first time I tried to root... To get it into Download mode you need to hold Vol-(Vol down) button and Power button as the unit is powering up. Hold both for a few seconds until you see the yellow download mode picture.
Good luck
Are you able to get to the download mode? If so I have a simple solution. If not, start a download of Ubuntu to have the proper stuff to fix your problem.
I'm running Ubuntu with the Unbrickable Mod and I have it in download mode and I have virtualmachine installed with windows and sammy drivers but my player wont show up in odin3. Any ideas to get it shwoing?
Either, shutdown VM and see if usb device shows up in windows. If it still does not then unplug usb from pc and then plug it back in, or transfer usb back to host in VM.
I tried that already.. It still doesn't show up in Odin3.
Check device manager for vm drivers for usb and remove them?
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Hmmm.... I don't really understand what you mean.. Sorry!
When you attach a usb device to a VM the vm software replaces the drivers of the USB device on the host with virtual drivers that redirects IO from the USB device to guest If the original driver does not get put back in during a detach then IO never goes back to the host.
I know that sounds complicated but I do not know how else to explain it...
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Okay, i fixed that. I have it in download mode, i uploaded the bootloaders that adamoutler has. I uploaded the stock rom you have. Odin3 said pass. But its still in download mode, autoreboot was checked. when i try turning it on, the download screen appears but the icon for download goes all over the screen then stops. Its still recognizeable in odin3 too. Any ways to get this thing going?
My stock rom does not include bootloaders and adam outler's bootloaders are only a temporary solution. What you need to do is flash a full international rom that has bootloaders. Then flash my stock rom to fix the capacitive buttons.
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Alright I see what you mean!! Where can I get a full stock rom though?
Well, I'm not exactly sure. I used to get mine from samfirmware.com but they have recently changed their site. You might try rumirands stock recovery in the dev section. You'll want to open it up and look for files like: boot.bin and Sbl.bin . These are the bootloader files. This will verify that you have a rom with bootloaders in it.
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Alright thanks a lot! Ill try rumirands stock and if that doesnt work ill go to samfirmware.com. Ill be back with the results in a few hours!!
Well Rumirands ROM did not. work. samfirmware.com only has the French and Chinese Rom versions so that doesnt help either. I downloaded a .tar.md5 from here : http://www.4shared.com/file/zhZjh0EY/package_us235tar.html..... Should I flash this by itself or do I need a pit file too?
The language of the ROM does not matter. What matters is that is has the boot loaders. Flashing my Stock ROM over it will fix language and capacitive buttons.
Make sure you have followed AdamOutler's intructions precisely. I don't recall having to use a pit file other than the one in his intructions but if comes to it, it is another troubleshooting point.
Realyy? Hm alright so what your saying is that when I have it in download mode, and with, lets the the chinese firmware, I flash that, turn on my sgp to see if it loads and then put it in download mode again and flash your stock rom, that it might work fine again???

[Q] galaxy s2 wont boot

i have just flashed it with the wrong Sofware (by accident) and it wasnt working so i disconnected it now it wont boot and wont go into recovery mode or download mode please help????
Sounds like a hard brick, there isn't a way to recover it. Out of interest what software did you flash? Was it just a wrong package or was it software that was designed for a different phone? There might be a minor chance of recovery depending on what went wrong. (But don't get your hopes up)
it was my dads galaxy s2 and the original software for my galaxy s i hope there is a way to unbrick it would it help if i said i didn't root it before i started i forgot and went straight into it ??
That's a pretty bad mistake... The only way you could possibly recover it is if you buy a USB Jig and give that a try. Otherwise I'm afraid your up **** creek without a paddle.
Jig
Seems u have Bricked your Device Use USB Jig to UnBrick it
1. USB jig to force into download mode
2. Key combo (Vol down + home + power) and then immediately connect to PC via USB, or try at same time
3. JTag repair
4. Samsung repair
Sent from my GT-P6810 using XDA Premium HD app
You did a big mistake, you can only use a USB jig and hope the cell reboot!
You can buy a USB JIG from Amazon using the following link:

A JIG won't ever help in these situations. JTAG is the only solution left.
A JIG is to force a phone to download mode with a WORKING bootloader. You messed up the whole phone my flashing a I9000 fw, including the bootloader.
the battery gets hot when i charge it i plug in the jig and the battery goes flat anything there??

[Q] Son of a Hard Brick! Please help...

It appears that I've hard bricked my Vibrant T959. In the middle of flashing using ODIN, it crapped out for whatever reason. I cant get into download mode or recovery mode any more. Really having a tough time finding a solution to my problem. I've come across plenty of people with soft bricked phones, alas no luck in finding a solution for my problem.
I've looked into the Unbrickable Mod and it's predominantly overwhelming. I dont believe a USB dongle would help here (maybe I'm wrong...hopefully I'm wrong). Can anyone help me out?
Any advice or tips is greatly appreciated!
Unless you screwed the bootloaders during the flash (were you flashing bootloaders?), a dongle is going to work. And it is much cheaper/easier than any more invasive solution.

Okay this time around I have a solution for your problem...
As i mentioned in the previous post my phone was not turning on or anything at all so here are the steps I followed...
1 - download ODIN
2 - download the .pit and .tar files
3 - make sure your phone drivers are installed on the PC you are using.
4 - open ODIN and load the .pit file and .tar file (PDA for .tar file)
5 - Plug in the USB cable into the PC
6 - remove the battery from the phone
7 - Hold down VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN simultaneously
8 - Plug in the usb into the phone
9 - reinsert the battery into the phone and hold the volume keys until your phone is in download mode
10 - wait for a yellow box to appear in ODIN (0:COM11) something like that, means your phone is ready
11 - Click start and be patient, shouldn't take a long time though... you should see the green progress bar in ODIN...
I hope these steps help someone who is in a similar position, let me know if i can be on any further assistance.
Goodluck.

Sounds like you just need to flash a new kernel but you would need to be in recovery or download mode to do so. Have you checked to see if gingerbread boot combos work? Hold only volume up and turn the phone on, maybe you have gingerbread bootloaders and don't know it ha.

I have tried various combinations of buttons in hopes of getting it into download mode. No luck with any of them. If I could just get it into said download mode it would be very easy to reflash a proper kernel. No luck yet.
I'm on the same boat. Yesterday after downgrading to stock eclair, I was trying to upgrade thru Kies mini. Everything was looking good, it went up to 100% but when it was supposed to reboot my phone, nothing happened. It's completely dead, no lights, no power, no nothing. I had a similar problem last year, but I was still able to put my phone in download mode by pulling the battery and plugging it in to the USB cable. I tried volume up + down, volume up + power, volume down + power, volume up + down + power. I think I tried everything already with no luck. I hope somebody can come up with a solution.

You have a hard bricked phone, its basically a paper weight now. NEVER use kies to upgrade your phone, it ruins more phones than it helps. You can try calling samsung and telling them that their program Kies has hard bricked your phone, I have seen a few people get lucky and get a free replacement.

That was a good idea, but unfortunately it didn't do anything for me. Thanks for the idea though, hadn't thought to try that process.

[Q] Bricked Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-i9070

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-i9070 which I was attempting to flash a new ROM onto via ODIN, everything looked successful, ODIN confirmed flash was a success and automatically rebooted the phone. Once the phone turned off, it never came back on. black screen. Tried removing the battery (fully charged at the time). Tried the usual Vol Down + Home Button + Power button and still nothing, done the same with the micro USB cable plugged in, device manager popped up in Windows and promptly closed again, some generic hard detected it didn't stay on the screen long enough for me to see.
So is it definitely bricked? is there any way to recover it, I've read some people have recovered variant models e.g. S5830 but this isn't working to the i7090. If it is bricked is the only option to try using a JIG? I've read a few posts but I'm not really that technical on the hardware side (any tutorials with pictures might help). If it does have to go to a service center can anyone recommend one I can post it to in the UK and generally how much does a unbricking service cost?
Apologies if I've missed any pertinent forum posts, but I have had a real good look around and kind of given up now, so any help would be be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
Try recovery mode and clear cache partition and dalvik if you can...

Try another usb port, and never a hub...

Tried two different cables but from the back USB port of my PC and no dice.

It does indeed look that way
I've ordered a USB from ebay and hoping that will bring it back from the dead, hopefully worth the £1.25. Can anyone answer the following question. What is the experience between soft bricked and hard bricked? do they both appear with a black screen, or does softbrick still boot but doesn't enter download mode.
Also does anyone know where I can find the stock firmware (Ginerbread) for the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-i9070P (on Orange UK)? tried looking but I'm going to need this if the JIG does indeed work!
Thanks in advance!

Excuse me but the I9070 and I9070p are NOT the Galaxy Ace but the S Advance. Take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2099

Your absolutely correct, apologies for the confusion :/
Please can the moderator change the thread title to "[Q] Bricked Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070P" and move to "Samsung Galaxy S Advance I9070 > Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting"
For the firmware package, look for it at sammobile.com. Firmware section. There you can choose your model name and, luckily, download the pack... Just extract it and flash with ODIN

Thanks. Do you know if the GT-I9070P share a generic model number? I’ve looked at sammobile firmware and there are no firmwares for the GT-I9070?
It should have an GT I9070P firmware section... If not, try google friend

Seems like your phone unfortunately is a hard brick. The reason I think this is because one it doesn't respond to anything. Two the USB jig didn't work and three seeing as you thought that your phone was the Galaxy Ace it is most likely you flashed a Galaxy Ace rom which hard bricked your phone as it isn't meat for your phone.
