[Q] Inserting file/Pic as attachment in a Post - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I was trying to insert a Pic as an attachment to a post, using the Prime.
When I clicked on "Manage Attachments", it brought up a popup window where I should have been able to select the location of the pic I wanted.
However, when click on "choose file", nothing happens. The file explorer does not open to allow me to locate the file.
Am I missing something/ are popups blocked/ or is this not a capability of the prime.
Thanks for the help
Bob

use opera mobile. only browser that lets you upload files or pics from your prime to a website. I use it all the time here to do what you said. its a free app. IMO, the best and fastest browser around. remwber fits opera mobile and NOT opera mini.
set the user agent to desktop also in opera mobile settings.

Thanks....It works as described.....however, I have issues
Probably me....because of so many positive reviews/comments....and I've used it before on my PC...but this one:
Crashed twice when trying to open XDA
Crashed the Prime....caused reboot twice
One auction site I frequent....constantly reloads site....never enough time to enter log-in data....
I was just amazed at the problems....BUT....like I said, probably user error someplace.
I'll keep it for XDA, but probably use the stock browser for everything else.
One, quick, final question....why does my bank's "test browser" function identify this as Safari
Since it's Google, I'm pretty sure it's a Chrome, although I've seen no place identifying it as such.

It sees the webkit engine and just assumes you're on Safari. At least that would be my opinion, I have also noticed this on sites in the past both on my phone and my Prime.

Opera Mini 5 now a native Windows Mobile app, plus mortscript for default links

Opera's latest beta of Mini is now in WM native code, so doesn't need java. It's really very fast.
Details at http://m.opera.com/next
Anyhow, I always used the java version of OM, and had a mortscript to make it the default browser for email links etc... so I've butchered the mortscript to work with the new non-java version of Opera Mini.
Some things to note...
The way it works, I couln't use mortscript to sebt ctrl-v to paste the url, so I used mouse control to bring up the context menu to paste. Therefore, it relies on the address box to be in a consistent place, so only works on QVGA devices like my Mega (Touch2) - for non-QVGA devices, someone will need to change the coordinates on the mouse commands in the mortscript.
It works on a new instance of OM fine, in standard mode and full screen. It works onto an existing instance of OM if not running fullscreen... the fullscreen mode seems to work strangely if you've scrolled down the page - I send a 'home' keypress' which in normal mode returns to the top of the page, but doesn't always in fullscreen mode.
So here's how my changes to the originl java om script work...
I run or switch to "\program files\opera mini5\OM5.exe" so make a copy of the current of executable called that - the executables seem to be named as the current release version.
Once OM is running, I send a 'home' keypress to get to teh top of the page. Then I send a mouseclick near the top to try to get in the address box, then I send one slightly lower down. This allows for both full screen and standard displays. If you're on a non-QVGA device, these will need adjusting.
Once I'm in the address box, I send four backspaces to clear the "www.", then I send a hold mouse command to bring up the context menu, and then a mouse click to select paste - again, non-QVGA is going to be trial and error...
I tried sending "#1" to get to enter URL, but it didn't work, neither did ctrl-V to paste!
I haven't modified the original installer, so you'll need to install the cab and then overwrite the mscr in \Windows with the butchered version.
This is just a quick and dirty workaround. Hopefully someone out there will be inspired to do a better/neater version, or at least create a neat installer!
can you learn me how to convert the Jar to cab?
thanx
Interesting. So what is the difference between Mini 5 and Mobile 10 now?
Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 for WM
"While Opera Mini traditionally requires Java, the new Windows Mobile version does not, which means the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) on the Windows Mobile device is no longer needed to run Opera Mini. "
*above*
hehe tell him what he really wants to hear...
ok i will...Mini is fast a f**k compared to opera 10..
only differene i have seen is the way you scroll though pages not as smooth at 10..
Indeed, I personally find Opera Mini 5 far better than Opera Mobile 10.
It's faster, more convenient, use less data, etc... And mainly it's faster, faster, faster
Opera 10 is definitely too slow compared to Opera Mini. I'm not patient enough.
The only thing Opera Mini is missing is Flash...
are you guys having slow scrolling when browsing pages too?
like if you compare the smoothness to 10 vs mini...
OK, first, this release is a crap. It's far worse than the java version. Some bugs till now: you can't login to certain pages, it doesn't work corectly with the SIP- if you press delete once the prompter will fastly go backwards and delete the entire text! So be carefull.A similar behaviour I encountered on the arrow keys: if you press once right or left the prompter will not jump a character, it will go at the begining or the end of the text. Also a friend reported that on his device this version of opera mini misses the exit button.
Too bad for this release, the browser in this stage is lame.
And stop comparing opera mini with opera 10. They are tottaly different, despite they look the same. Opera 10 does full browsing and opera mini uses servers to resize data before sending it to the phone, that's why it's fast.
The best browser I have tried for my mobile!
Finally I cand read the pages without a lot of zooming and adjusting.
So what is the difference between Mini 5 and Mobile 10 now?

of course you know that all mini's are using opera server to generate smaller amount of data being sent to your devices.
it's whole secret of its speed and main difference(i wouldnt make bank transactions that way, generally)..
Okay this is confusing. I thought that the whole server resize thing was Opera Turbo, which comes built in in both mini and mobile now, right?

My understanding is that Turbo in Mobile is sort of a half-way version - I guess they are rendering images server-side and sending text for rendering on the device, or something like that. Mini is definitely much faster, and I haven't encountered any of the problems that other people are reporting about not displaying pages, input or anything yet on this release, having used it for a couple of days.
I guess if you use your winmo device for full web browsing, you're going to use mobile, but if like me you use it for email, surfing news sites, forums and message boards, then mini is just sooooo much faster, even with mobile turbo mode now available.

No problem searching using the search from teh top of the page.
Can't post anything on forums etc, so it looks like the submit biuttons don't work.
I'm still finding it brilliant just for general surfing, and there's always mobile or the old java version to fall back on if needed.

[Q] Embedded PDF, PPT, or Word in browser

I wanted to reply to this thread but cannot since I have less than 10 posts. Regardless, threads addressing this problem are outdated.
I recently switched to Verizon and got a Fascinate from a friend. While I am enjoying the phone overall, there are a few glaring issues I have run into. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to read embedded pdf or other documents that normally open directly in the browser. My university uses these for their class management and I really need to be able to view them on my phone without downloading them ahead of time. On my old phone (apple) I could open and read these documents no problem. Is there a way to do this on android?
Thanks,
Evan
If your just looking to be able to read and save pdf files you can download adobe reader ,(it may actually be called adobe pdf) but either way its free on the market.
If that's not what you're looking for try downloading a different browser there's a ton of free ones, also on the market.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Adobe reader is good, and I have it. The problem is that the browsers do not prompt me to select or automatically open the PDF in adobe reader. Since it is embedded in the web page they just do nothing but load an empty frame where the file's content should be. I have actually found that Firefox will prompt and open these files in adobe reader or another document reader, but no other browser will.
Is there some setting I am missing with dolphin and the stock browser that would tell them to open these files in a standalone reader? I really like dolphin HD and don't think firefox is quite there yet (but it is the only browser that seems to open these files). To avoid confusion I found firefox after the OP, but am still looking for a better solution.

I know that Dolphin HD has an addon called PDF viewer for Dolphin.
you can check it out and download it here -> https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.mgeek.pdfviewer
Might be what you are looking for.
Good luck!
It appears that app only works for google docs. Even if this is not the case it didn't help my particular problem. Thanks for the suggestion

[Q] non mobile sites

For a few days now, my touchpad is redirecting to mobile-sites.
For example: when I want to visit: www.hln.be , I get redirected to m.hln.be.
This is very anoying because the screen is perfect for non-mobile sites.
How can I change the settings so I always go to the non-mobile sites?
Just scroll to bottom of page and choose to view the normal site?

What part of "always" don't you understand?
He wants to change the user-agent, so that the Touchpad always goes to the desktop version, like on Android, where you can chose desktop or tablet.
Would love to know as well, as occasionally I come across a mobile website, which is annoying (and they often don't have a view full version button...)
Even on Android that doesn't always work though, I do dislike websites that think they know better than I do what I want
The worst abuse of it is sites that user agent sniff and think Opera is only a mobile browser and give you the mobile site when you're on a desktop PC
McDonalds used to have this problem and runnersworld.com
Maybe if you install the Hulu Fix from preware it will fix the problem since it changes the user agent to Linux.
Not sure if it will work but you can try.

how to stop displaying "mobile" versions of websites? TMo:SGS2

So i've tried searching this answer and I'm not finding awhole lot. This is becoming quickly annoying.
No matter what web program I download (for instance - Skyfire), websites on the SGS2 typically show up in the mobile version of a website.
I've looked here:
http://www.mobilephonetipsandtricks.com/2011/08/how-to-view-pages-in-desktop-mode-with.html
but there is no "View Mode" on the Tmo sgs2. In Skyfire I select desktop mode but that doesn't stop pages from loading mobile versions of themselves. I've even tried "about:debug" but that does nothing.
Heck I've even tried a factory reset.
Anyone have a for sure answer?
Use a browser that allows you to change the user agent to desktop rather than mobile, such as opera mobile.
I've never had that problem using Firefox. Sites which have a mobile site and a "normal" site tend to default to the normal site and I can only get mobile sites up if I preface a domain known to have a mobile site with the usual "m."
i use dolphon browser HD and set my user agent to desktop.
Works without problems.
Do you have the T-Mobile USA version? If so I would check its foum, as there may be a modded stock browser like for the i9100.
Dolphin HD, opera mobile and Firefox mobile all have options to display the normal website as default via user agent.

try opera mobile or mini, or u can install ics and then the stock browser has a "request desktop site"

[Q] Best android browser for CodeAcademy?

Hi,
I like working on the website Codeacademy.com, and would love to do so on my android tablet (kindle HD), or even my phone (razr HD). However, every browser I've tried has had a terrible time with this website: browsers love to zoom in too closely when I start typing, they have trouble scolling in a text window within the main window, etc. (just try it, you'll see what I mean).
Does anyone have any suggestions for a browser that would fare better? Or perhaps dolphin has an add-on that would mitigate the problems? I have trouble believing that I'm the only one who likes to use this popular website on an android device.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: The kindle is restricted in its browsers by default, but I haven't had any trouble downloading apks and sideloading, so that's not a limitation to worry about.
Me too
I am looking for it too. It would be awesome if codecademy made an android app for its exercises

Agreed-- though I feel like they shouldn't have to! This website isn't doing anything particularly advanced--it's just a text box to type in--and I feel like one of the myriad android browsers should be able to handle it. Especially since each one has a different unique problem with the website.

Okay, looks like Maxthon browser works tolerably well. Good browser overall, actually.
Jwdink,
Good to know Maxthon worked for you. I tested many, including Maxthon, and I always get the same problem.
When I click on the box to type, and try to move it up or down, everything goes white and I have to find the box again...
I tested with chrome, opera, firefox, dolphin, dolphin beta, and others less known browsers, and always the same problem happens
Now I'm gonna test with firefox beta..
I emailed codecademy some days ago concerning this matter but got no answer
Did you notice the site doesn't have a mobile version? Maybe if they can create one, it could fix the problem

Maxthon didn't fare to well for this task on my rooted Kindle Fire running Gingerbread .......I sometimes have success with the latest release of Firefox (not the nightly edition) but many times will have to refresh the page to get the coding input box to respond "halfway" normal.
Even on my Windows 7 laptop the site has issues and I've tried IE9 and the latest Chrome. Maybe I'll try Firefox on the laptop today. On the tablet I find myself reading the tutorial from the website on whatever browser I'm using but will not try to implement the code there. I'll just open up my good old text editor and code there using what I learned on the site and then run the code on "x" interpreter (in my case the Python) and it's much easier to do it that way.
When I have the lesson running correctly I will return to the website and "attempt" to complete it on there either possibly with Android Firefox or on the PC so it will keep track of my progress. Otherwise I would get WAY to frustrated trying to get every little step to run in the browser's input box!
And yes, a dedicated app for this website would be ideal

For me, and others users, like this guy:

and, I believe, many others students, it would be very very useful if you could make a codecademy app for android, where we could do the exercises.

I don't think its very effective to work on codeacademy from your tablet especially if you aren't using a real keyboard. Codecademy has problems with browsers in osx and windows and I can't imagine how it would work on a tablet which browsers that do much less. Codecademy gives me issues everytime I use it, some courses are sometimes impossible to complete unless codecademy themselves fixes them. Python last summer was uncompletable due to weird errors which tooks weeks to fix.
Also, something you should be doing is after you complete courses, go make something with your newly gained knowledge. I can go through every single course in there and might not have a full understanding without actually making something, plus, you have to get used to dealing with the unexpected because everytime you code, theres going to be some problem. You can't code much things comfortably in Android either, at least I haven't been able to.
Try using ucbrowser.
I've tried Firefox, dolphin, boat and maxthon but for me uc browser works best. I'm talking about web browsing in general, uc browser is my pick for mobile web browsing. I've never visited code academy on ucbrowser though. Give it a shot

Foxfire & disable autocorrect/autocomplete
To use codecademy on my rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (n8013) tablet I used Foxfire (stable or beta) browser and I disabled the keyboard's autocorrection/autofill/autocapitalization functionalities.
Tested but couldn't use stock browser, Chrome, Dolphin and Opera. Tested but couldn't use Swype keyboard and Google downloadable keyboard. Something weird happens connected to the shift key.
Should say my Samsung's running stock (Cyanagenmod) Android 4.2.2, no bloatware. Don't know if that matters or not.

Hey,
Im trying to use codecademy and khanacademy.org but im using a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet (stock rom). Ive tried UC browser as well as many others (chrome, naked, firefox, dolphin, maxthon, boat, maybe more) with no luck. Code isnt selectable or pastable, and sometimes i cant even delete.
I dont have access to a computer at the moment and would really like to take advantage of the interactive tutorials on those sites. I even bought a mouse thinking it would make text selection easy but i now realise android mouse support is lame and just emulates a finger.
If anyone has any solution for this, please let me know.

Hello jwdink,
Thank you for asking this question almost two years ago. Like you, I recently stumbled across the delimma of learning to code at codeacademy.com with my nextbook tablet device.
The solution that works perfectly for me is to request the desktop version of the web browser.
A quick review of the steps involved (Recent Google chrome at time of writing):
Click the menu button
Select "Request desktop site"
The page will reload automatically to a closer version of codeacademy that you are familiar with on the desktop site.
