I prefer 7-inch. I think 7-inche is perfect for Android tablet running Froyo, and maybe Honeycomb. For 10-inch or more tablet, I would rather it runs the full OS like Win 7.

I agree. I have a Sony Z series laptop which gets pretty much the same battery life as a tablet and is just as portable but still has i7, dual grafx and quad SSD. In most situations I can't live without a full-blown laptop as I run several VMs.
I have had a galaxy tab for a while now and have used it a lot more than I thought I would. The only reason for this is because (unlike laptops and large tablets.), you can stick it in your pocket if you need a spare hand.
The only problem with the galaxy tab is that it runs froyo so there are only a few apps which make good use of the larger screen. If it ran honeycomb, I reckon it would be perfect. I am still awaiting a firm commitment from HTC to deliver a honeycomb update. It would be a crying shame if they didn't release it for the flyer.

It's seem the official price has now been released and that it'll set you back 500 UK pounds BEFORE tax. That's a bit excessive to be honest... I'll let someone else bite the bullet and report on it.

3G or Wifi? May keep my old rhodium for bluetooth / wifi tether and to use as a phone, would be nice to use the flyer for texts though
Wondering if it will be locked like the Incredible S (I think, saw something on Engadget). May take a month or so to develop a H-SPL or Android equiv

Getting the 3G version as I have a 10Gb/month SIM card which will be homeless once I sell the Galaxy Tab
Im sure you will be able to use it as a phone. If you buy the SIM free version, I can't see why they would remove the dialer etc.
Re the bootloader - being a HTC device, there should be plenty of devs here who keen to hack it and there are plenty who are up to the challenge.

I was thinking about pickin up a Xoom WiFi today but now that I see theres no custom roms its not even worth it I dont think...

LOL, im going to just swap it out for my gTab and hope my wife doesnt realize it LOL
I guess the Xoom is a bust because of the lack of SD Card means no recovery partition or custom roms. Plus theres no Honeycomb source yet so no HC roms. Bummer! I guess my gTab will last until the transformer is opened up
Both the Xoom and the Transformer trump the gTab in pretty much every category except price and tinkerability (if that's even a word). So if they were all the same price, I'd go for the Transformer, mainly because of the screen type.
Here's my variation on the original question:
GTablet = $285
Transformer = $500
Xoom = $600
transformer. Getting tha cash and waiting for the relase in us.

this should put things in perspective.
Yeah I'd like one of the newer honeycomb tablets but not for close to 2x the cost.
If the Transformer is locked down it loses a lot of it's luster too.
The gTab is a good device that gets better when you realize how flexible it is. I am willing to bet that if Google officially released the source for Honeycomb we'd be running it already, even if it's 1/2 the price of similar tablets. (this is probably one of the reasons why Google isn't releasing the source for Honeycomb)
Nah, not paying $500 for the Transformer. $400 is tempting if tax isn't involved.
What's funny is, a week ago I would've, and was going to, pay $600 for a wifi Xoom.

I have yet read a preview that went in that sort of detail, most of the previews have been pretty high level.. ie: it has a screen! that works with touches! and it's a tablet! etc etc
I hope it's not locked down because I've always been an Asus fan and the price looks reasonable
xoom
I would go with a xoom if they were the same price. partly for the screen, but also for honeycomb. In 6-12 months there will be a lot more apps for it and will be the norm. IMO.
I'd have to go with the transformer easy..
The screen, two usb ports, sd card, doesnt it even have a card reader?
That along with the keyboard attachment, which increases battery to up to 16 hours.
All that, and it shouldn't be locked down like the moto.
The Asus Transformer is $400, not $500. And the dock is only $150 adds another 9 hours or so of battery life.

Noone knows pricing for sure. All we know is that there will be a 16gb Transformer and 32gb one. They should be $100 difference in price. The 16gb transformer would be the price point to compare to the gtablet.

Ok I have been searching for a 7-9in tablet for close to 3-6 months now.
At first i just wanted a cheap one to just control my computers remotely but then I played with couple of them and found out that they could do more.
I would like one with
1. Fast cpu so I can flash and upgrade roms and kernals
2. Removeable battery (im afaird that the power cylces might die and I will have poor battery life)
3. Built in HDMI port
4.GPS
5. at least 512 memory
I really like the flyer, the pen option is sick, but having the change the battery is going to be a pain and then I might lose the thing
is there a skin that holds the pen in place?
Ok heres want I need help with
should I buy this one or the ARCHOS 80 G9 TABLET?
The note taking App is a real buying factor for me, but I am wondering if other tablets offer that feature, I just need a note pad that I could use any styles and take notes
Any1 plz help

4: Yes.

Just FYI, most tablets don't have removable batteries. Some are easier than others to take apart and remove/replace them, but having ez-mode user-servicable batteries just isnt a tablet feature. For what its worth though, most modern batteries have 1000+ charge cycles at least. Lets say you recharge it once a day, thats years of service. At the end of 3 or so years, finding a replacement battery will be harder than removing the back of the device and replacing it anyways.
Best thing you can do for any lithium compound battery is dont leave it plugged in. discharge it to around 40% before recharging it. The whole "memory effect" thing isnt an issue with lithium batteries, but constant topping off will reduce battery life anyways.
Yeah I understand that, I love the pen function. But spending 480 on a tablet is too much for me (400 tablet + 80 pen)
the most I could spend is around 300 because this tablet will be replacing my netbook in away

Do they have a Silicone case that can hold the pen?
(I brought the LG G-Slate - What a piece of junk... I'm waiting till Black Friday to buy the flyer- G slate lagged every 2 seconds.)
If you are in the US at Best Buy the Tablet is $300 and the Pen is $40.
I have tried most of the 7 - 8 inch tablets and the Flyer has the best build quality. THe next best is the Color Nook at about $149. Great tablet when rooted and running CM7, but no camera, GPS or Mic. So I love the Flyer, but HTC needs to get Honey Comb out, then it would be a killer.
Take it from someone who's had a gtablet, iconia, xoom, dell streak 7 and now this. This is the funest tablet I've had yet. Not usually a fan of HTC Sense but it works really well on this tablet. I also like that It's gingerbread, It's stable and most apps are compatible. This is the tablet I should've purchased from the start. At $299 it's a great buy.

Problem with most portfolio cases is that it hides the rear camera when in hand held use. This one doesn't.
Now I just have to find away to make sure the Pen does not fall out of the case. I just they had string attached to this thing.

Because Google never released the source code for Honeycomb, the 3rd party honeycomb ROMs are incomplete. Some HW does not work, like graphics acceleration and some apps are unstable. So the available HC ROMs are like alpha, not even beta because there is no way to finish them. That's why Cyanogen is stuck on GingerBread. For that same reason it is unlikely that our ROM cooks will be able to fix any significant problems in the HTC Flyer leaked ROM. We are therefore pretty stuck until when and if HTC does a HC final.

I wouldn't wait if I were you. I found this device two days ago and they were selling out so fast the quantities in other stores were updating almost visibly. The Best Buy locally for me was sold out, and the Best Buy Mobile right near there sold their last one five minutes before I called. I ended up finding one on eBay with a gift receipt for the same price and free shipping but the two guys at Best Buy both told me that they aren't hopeful that they will get anymore in. They even show backordered online.

Its either this tab for 300 or the galaxy 7in for 200. I could prob get the Galaxy tab for 150 used. So I am willing to pay a 50 to 100 dollar premium because I like htc and the pen feature.
But spending 300 on something that I am going to abuse and most likely break is kinda dumb.
In regards to Best Buy being back ordered, I wouldn't rush to buy it from another vendor like ebay. Because Best Buy has a 14 day price match on tablets. So lets say I buy the tablets 14 days before blackfriday, I can go back to best buy and match the price on that day.
Another thing about retail:
Best buy is the only dealer of this tablet retail in the US (I live in New York) the people telling you this workers for the company.
They are considered front office workers, meaning they only tell you what any other salesperson would say (aka lazy ones will say no we will not get any more in or proactive ones saying yes we will get more in)
The ones that actually repurchase the supplies are back office employees and I highly think Best Buy will stock up on these for black friday.
Question now is if you want to wait in 5am @ best buy to get a tablet?
I will and I will have with a bottle of ciroc to keep me warm 5am.
Lol at the ciroc. Gotta get the coconut kind. Or grab u a nice little 1800 u will b just fine. But the 300 is a great deal. Mine came out to ruffly 374 including pen. I ordered online and picked up at the store in less than 30 minutes

I currently use the prime daily and i got my GF the nexus 7 for couch browsing and just to have the latest OTA's all the time. However after using it, I really am liking the portability of the size and the performance is so much fast than the prime. Just not sure if i would miss the larger screen.
Yeah, i plan on selling my Prime soon and getting a Nexus 7!
I switched--but I was having horrible problems with my prime. One nexus 7 for me. One nexus 7 for my wife.

Due to the reputation of the prime and the release of infinity, the price of the prime is below what I'd like to get out of my prime.

Probably going to stick mine on eBay and Gumtree!
Mine is going on Craigslist & I haven't seen enough reviews on the 7 to get it. I'm looking at getting a ipad or a laptop.
already purchased one through Google play. UPS showed original scan at Ky hub center @ 9:20a.m. now ups shows my device leaving KY, departure scan, @ 2:09p.m.. so its on "In Transit" status now. will arrive for delivery to me tomorrow. can't wait!
oh and im keeping both. No need to get rid of my prime since i have no issues with it. it works great
I'd love to have both, but I'm keeping my prime. The keyboard dock is far too useful to give up. Besides, I have faith in the devs

yea both sounds like a good idea.
gonna get the N7, use it for a week or two and wait to hear about JB on prime.. then sell one of the 2.
Anyone want to buy a spare Prime?
Traded in my 3G Vita on one Saturday. So far its been an absolute pleasure to own, exactly what I was expecting.
My Prime, not so much.
Sorry guys, but I see no need on having a tablet without a dock station like the asus transformer line. I mean, a tablet without USB OTG,SD and microSD card reader and mouse pad is just an expensive toy to sit in front of the TV and surf on internet while watching at it. I use my prime both at work and while at school instead of bringing a heavy, big, overheating laptop, not to mention the battery life in the prime is way better. I know , the N7 came with a very good price, and I will buy one as soon as they reach Swedish market, but as I said before, for me it will work just as a toy to surf in front of the TV, no way that it would replace the Prime.

Pretty much the same boat I am in. Buying from staples and they have a 14 day return policy (I think). Not sure if selling my prime would be worth it at this point.

I am on it right now and I have to say it just outperforms the prime. Idk if its jb or what but everything is just after on the n7
The N7 doesnt seem to have these strange lags caused by the internal memory speed.
Also it scores way better in the benchmarks...
good thing: it uses the same memory as the prime! on paper the same speed ...

I think what it boils down to is, get what you want period. If you love the prime and it works for you then keep it, want the infinity or 7 then get it.
Nothing is worse than having a tablet and not want it, or you are dissatisfied with it, for whatever reason. Flip side, nothing is better than having a device and really like it.
The prime really doesn't do it for me, I thought it would (it's still is the best looking tablet out bar none) but it just doesn't. In the end I treat it like a business decision, I thought it would be good and it tuned out for me different. Now I'm trying to sell it and move on.
I started using windows 8 and I knew my next tablet device would have it 8 on it. I like everything about it. I think it's the better OS for me and my situation. I could go on an on bashing Asus, but why? I've found what works best for me. But that's just me...
I owned a Galaxy Tab 7" and a PlayBook prior to getting the Prime, and I'm considering the Nexus, but I found the 7" tabs to be too small for web browsing. Personally, I think the Galaxy Tab 8.9" is the best size.
Plus, it's another ASUS product. (My Prime's currently RMA'd to fix the rear camera issue).
I wish HTC had built the Nexus 7. The Nexus One was the best.
I have had my prime since early January with the dock, and while I do love it (have it unlocked with CM10 preview on it), after I got my new laptop, I haven't used it nearly at all. After seeing the new promo video for the Note 10.1, i have to say that I'm impressed, even though it is sped up. As a college student with a laptop already, I'm thinking that the Note 10.1 would be more useful/productive. My question is, would you think anyone would trade a brand new Note 10.1 for a 6-month old, unlocked prime with dock? And would that be a good trade? Thanks.

I don't think anyone would do that trade unless they themselves got the note & wasn't happy with it. Your best bet would be to sell the prime & use that money toward a note...IMO.

Thanks.

The Note isn't even out yet. Why would someone buy it, just to trade it.
Also the Prime is plagued with issues.
What a question..
Trade a new tablet for an eight-month old tablet riddled with hardware issues?
You've got quite the sense of humor.
I was thinking more along the lines of the dock coming with it making it a sweeter deal.

Not a sweet deal to begin with. How would it make it sweeter?
Well, because the tab and dock were originally $650 and, even with the depreciated value of the tab, it is still quad core, unlocked, and has (most likely) double the memory, in addition to the dock coming with it, in exchange for a tab that is most likely going to be $500 or, if Samsung wants to compete with the cheaper tablets, maybe $450. That's why.

Ya might get a Note phone for that but Id go with the suggestion above and sell it and put the money towards the Note. I've got a LTE note with a tablet ROM on it and its great. I can do just about everything I can on my prime just ultra portable. Ya drop the DPI to 160 on the Note and its essentially a 5.3 inch tablet PC. just my opinion though

The Note 10.1 will probably be more then that. It is also a quad-core, and has double the RAM that the Prime has. Note 10.1 has higher specs that the Prime.
Most people who want a tablet don't care about the dock.
Also the Prime has issues with it, which is almost basic knowledge. Hell, try to even sell it on Kijiji and you'll get a million questions asking about wifi etc issues with the Prime.
I guess it would be a good deal, but the question is...
Who is the one getting the good deal?
You or the person you are trading with?
Definitely not a sweet deal. I've had a hard time trying to sell my locked factory spec prime with 1 dead pixel for $300-ish (no dock).

Their price tag is $749.50 for the note 10.1 -- which may or may not be a good representation of the price when the rest of the retailers start selling it.

The real price should be announced at the Samsung conference on Aug 15th in NY.
Did you get it at Best Buy? If so, take it back under the manufacturer's warranty due to the wifi/gps issues and get a gift card towards the Note 10.1 when it comes out.
Otherwise, yeah....sell it and use the money towards the Note. I don't think anybody's gonna make that trade.
