1. note the current version of your rom
2. goto chainfire cf root thread in "original android development page"
3. download the matching cf root version
4. flash it via cwm
I can't seem to figure out which one I should use
My kernel is: LPQ

No but only a foold does not have a backup of data and most important rule one backup your EFS folder .
jje
How do I backup that???
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
First time i flashed i tried CF-Root kernel but no go, then i tried Siyah kernel, just flash via odin and then i got root and CW Recovery
The latest stable siyah kernel should work fine (they run fine on all stock SGS2 roms as far as i know)
What about speed mod for ics?

I have a stock sgs2 ics and i want to root my phone. Pda xxlpq, phone xxlpq, csc xxlpd (NEE = nordic). Is the cf-root xx xeo lpq correct?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

But I've read it could possibly brick the phone harder than a boot loop?

If you put the wrong one, it could.
Settings> About Phone> Baseband Version> check the last 3 letters, and I believe yours is LPQ so get CF-Root for LPQ and you should be good. After flashing that with Odin, you should have CWM and root.
Use the efs app to make a backup.

I'm still a little confused on how root my phone.. do I just flash the rooted kernel by chainfire via Odin?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Download the correct file from Chainfire. Unzip it once. Dont unzip it twice. Your looking for the file to end in .tar. Make sure Kies is not running. start Odin as administrater, connect the phone to the pc through USB. ID:COM should show up yellow. Click on PDA. Load the .tar file.
Make sure Re-Partition is NOT TICKED. Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time SHOULD BE TICKED. Press start. DO NOT REMOVE THE USB CABLE till you have a green pass,as this will result in a bricked phone..
How big are my chances to get my phone bricked by using triangleAway??

sorry if this has been asked before, i searched but didnt find anything and just want to be sure
does it still work with sgs2 ??
thanks
Use odin to flash the kernal or if your phone is rooted cwm.
You can find odin in intratec official firmware thread inthe developmemt section

i know about odin but sgs kernel flasher is alot easier if it'll work
you can flash .tars/kernels with DarkysRom2 apk right from the handset

Hi! I attempted to root my S2 via a method I found here whereby I flash an insecure kernel then root using S2 root. I followed the guide to the T and still my phone is only ''partially rooted'' according to rootchecker and no root apps could be granted su access.
I am running ICS 4.0.3, Baseband Version XXLPS.
What should I do next or should I accept defeat and leave this phone unrooted? What could I have done wrong?
Thanks in advance for reading.

flash the latest siyah kernel v3.4.1 either from ur recovery (use siyah .zip file) or thro Odin ( use siyah .tar file) and then see
Thanks Sun!
I have downloaded the Tar file. I assume what I do now is flash it onto my phone and retry S2 Root again?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
If you flash Siyah you will be already rooted.
Ah, then perfect. Thank you!

Either I am an uber noob or there is something wrong!
I downloaded the Siyah 3.4.1.tar kernel from gokhanmoral and flashed via odin and the phone sat at the boot screen with the little yellow triangle on it. I left the phone on and running like that for 10minutes.
I flashed my insecure kernel back on from last time (the one I used when trying to root using s2root) and it is fine again.
Anywho I am back to square one! -.-

ok buddy follow this steps to reroot ur phone in a proper manner.
1) Dwnld the official ICS firmware(4.0.3) and flash thro odin
link Here
2) after that please dwnld the Matching Cf- root kernel and flash thro' ODIN
link Here
ur phone will be rooted properly and should wrk fine
ps- read the OP of both the threads carefully and follow the instructions over there to root ur phone successfully
If you only need proper root, no custom or insecure kernels and no yellow triangle, look at the guide in my signature. Worth the try

Hey i had a similar problem. There is a superuser n buybox zip file that you will find on one forum here, that is about basic how to root. Copy those files to your phone then go to recovery and apply zip. I had a hard time with my phone partially rooted but thay solved it

Anything you find here is for I9300 model. You should ask in the correct forum for your phone to avoid any confusion which may further worsen your phone condition.

Hi,
Does anyone knows, how to resolve this problem?
When i flash with a stock rom, every thing is ok, but if i root it, the device status change.
In trakning this topic " http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238&page=131" but looks like there is a lot of info....but nothing is working.
Thank you.
Because you've modified your device by flashing a custom kernel....modified device = modified status. Normal device = normal status.

Download from, samsung-updates, the file >

He is correct cf root does not use a modified kernel to root S3s but you are still technically making adjustments to your s3 when you flash cf root. This is why u will always have modified status after rooting.
The 1st few paragraphs of the cf root thread probably explain it better than me lol
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Anything that replaces the recovery and and stock kernel is deemed "custom" although cf-root is based on the stock Samsung kernel, the fact you have to use Odin in order to flash it is deemed as "modifying" your device....hence the modified status

But the msg, only appears with JB.....
Ok, then what is the solution to have root, with JB, and not having, the device status modified.... just like before JB.
The "problem", we lost the Samsung updates...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Losing Samsung updates is not a problem for XDA members we don't use the OTA or Kies route .
First job is to remove Kies and delete OTA app .

Ain't gonna happen its always been the way with s3 even on ics, you root and you will have a modified status. But as jjegan already said here on xda you don't worry about ota/kies updates just flash new versions through Odin software and your good to go.

I think you can use mobile ODIN and flash a new firmware there.
Thanks was hoping there was a simpler way as he only just managed to flash a rom. Is it possible to flash a stock kernel through siyah.
Thanks
Kieron

23732 is right. But to make it more precise - open your stock TAR rom file in mobile odin (all partitons in the app will be filled in). Then clear all of them but kernel. Then flash only the kernel partition. No need to flash anything more to come back to stock kernel.
