[Q] Taking Better Photo's with the Photon... - Motorola Photon 4G

I feel like the Photon has the capability to take decent pictures but with a higher rate of efficiency if maybe better software was written for it. Using the stock camera software I find it hard to take a good picture. Yes I know the photon doesn't have an amazing camera and it suffers whenever there isn't enough light.
But using apps from the market like :Camera360 and Camera zoom FX, I am able to take much better pictures.
Camera360 has a "stabalization Feature" which basically waits until you stop shaking the damn camera, which has been able to produce the least blurry pics but the problem is there is much much more noise in this mode.
Has anyone had any luck with apps that maybe I haven't tried yet. I don't mind paying for it so I am not limited to free apps. Or has someone come up with a way to take good pics with the photon that I haven't tried yet.
Also does anyone know of a way to adjust the focus when in video mode? Is there an app or a mod that would allow me to adjust the focus when shooting video?
Thanks for any help or advice.

im also interested on buying one of the app but still can decide which one work better on photon
the camera zoom FX
or
Camera 360
can anyone give input ?

Personally out of the 8 or so camera apps I have 360 and Vignette are the best overall apps for taking pictures
As for video idk
sample of 360 enhance effect when I was first trying out the Photons camera

Photon Camera Issue - Indoors

So I am loving my photon. Have had it since launch day, and the one thing I am less than happy with is the camera performance indoors. Both my epic and evo shift 4g took good pictures indoors, but it seems pretty hit and miss with me and the photon. I cant decide if I should return it and wait for the Galaxy S2 or if maybe they will improve the camera software in an update.
Example as to what I mean with the pictures.
I took a picture, with flash on and settings in auto on my friends atrix, and side by side with my photon. The picture looked more natural on his screen, but on mine, the colors were weird and it wasn't focused very well.
Thoughts?
Only giving my opinion because no one has answered this yet.
I have noticed that the camera is not great indoors. However, one must remember that indoor shots are difficult even with good cameras because of the low light.
But since you are comparing your shots to another phone, all I can say is that hardware is different. Hard to say what is causing it and whether or not the camera on the Atrix is really better.
What I would do if it was me as a first step is to call Motorola and ask them why the camera sucks compared to the Atrix and see what they say. Maybe someone can shed some light on things.
If not, might just have to bite the bullet and buy an app such as Vignette from the Market if you can't get the satisfactory settings on the stock camera app. It might have some set profiles you can use that would make the pictures come out much better. I did see that someone posted taking pictures on the Photon with Vignette produced really good pics but don't know where the shots were taken.
Again, I'm not that knowledgeable on this so these are just suggestions.
I think it's because the flash is less than white. I think it actually gives a more natural picture and looks less like a flash was used. You can edit the photo after you have taken it on the phone. Moto built in some decent editing software in the gallery view.

The Photon actually takes the photo before it finishes focusing causing pics to look really bad. Having played with several Photons, I decided to just use Vignette (from the market) instead. Pics now look outstanding.
My comparisons were done between EVO 4G & MoPho. Hope that helps.
I would say that my HTC Heroc's camera is better then the MoPho which is a big disappointment. It's also worse the the Evo 3D's which I played with for a month. The crappy pictures aren't just indoor, they also aren't very good on clouldy days. Is there a better camera app out there that can take nicer pictures or any roms that have camera tweaks?

Try Vignette from the Market.
sorry bro.....photon....ergggg....all moto devices always have the wroste camera on phones soo :S....you have no lucky to that
I just downloaded the free version of vignette and the photos are much worse than the stock camera. I mean real bad. Is the free version not so good?
Photos colors are way off.
vignette free sucks because it only saves effects in .3mp, however the full version can take forever to process the effects. luckily you can just keep taking pictures and it processes in the background. btw vignette is better than stock.

I downloaded the app after reading the numerous recommendations. Maybe I'm an idiot but I can't figure out how to zoom in and out...seems like every button takes a picture...help?

Vignette only helps so far. What we need is an update from Motorola that addresses the camera issues. But Motorola is silent when it comes to the camera...
I have recently been looking at the photos out of the Nokia N8. If only my MoPho could take images like that!

Our photon comes with really great effects too just press menu then edit than advance
Its the screen resolution of the photon that makes it look different take download the pictures to a computer from both phones and sompare them side by side and you will see that the photon takes a way better pictures, the difference is in the screen,

The problem I have with the default camera app is that on anything but the brightest of sunny days everything looks blurry. Vignette seems to be much better in that regard. At least inside pictures are fairly sharp.
I'm really feeling Camera ZOOM FX right now, pictures are really nice and sharp indoors. The steady shot give you a readout of the accelerometer and wont take the picture unless you've been stead for 0.5 , 1 or 2 seconds. It's $0.10 on the market today and I would strongly recommend it. The only problem is you don't seem to be able to change picture quality settings.
Camera ZOOM FX
+1 just got camera zoom..lovin it.

I use camera zoom since i got my photon the default camera app is really ****ty i guess that the difference should be the way the picture is procesed

I find the Photon camera pretty decent, actually is the best camera I ever had on a phone. For the low light issue thing I would just like to say that it does not take the greatest pic on low light conditions but what actually makes it worse is the Pentile display (and I'm not saying is not a good display like most people), because if you transfer your pictures to your computer you can actually see that the pictures aren't as bad as they seems when you view them in your Photon.
As for camera apps I use Camera360 Ultimate and HDR Camera+
I really don't like camera zoom because you can't save pictures in actual resolutions. (at least when I used I couldn't get them) Maybe they fixed that now.?

[Q] Camera improvement. How to make still, sharp photos?

Hi!
I noticed that you must hold RAZR really firmly, nearly rock solid to take sharp photo. If your hand tremble a bit, you going get blury photo.
I think that is software issue. Like tooking picture to slow or something.
Is there any way to improve it (MOD or App)?
I won't buy stand for RAZR to take sharp pics.
You'll need a faster shutter speed, the camera defaults to a low shutter speed to keep the ISO down (increasing the ISO increases the noise in the picture).
Sadly, I haven't found any apps that can control the shutter speed yet. Your chances are better with a lot of light, though!
It's not satisfiying for me. Tell me... There are chances to improve it in future, or camera hardware isn't good?
I use Camera Zoom FX instead of the camera. It's got an option for stabilizing the camera while taking the shot. Plus, I feel like the picture quality sounds better compared to the ones taken by the stock camera application.
Give it a try.
Okay. Thanks.
I'll check it out

Been using Camera Zoom FX too. Great replacement for stock camera so far, but in terms of Video capture, I would suggest for the default app in order to use HD capture..

Camera App for Text

Ok, So the stock camera app isn't that great. Can anyone recommend a good camera app specifically for capturing text(or maybe settings)? not worried about OCR, just want the text to come out clear.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I love the stock app but it's not for everyone. Best app in the market is Camera Zoom fx. Used it on my Captivate after going to CyanogenMod as the vanilla android camera sucks imo. It is a paid app and I'm not sure how much it costs as I got mine from the 10 cent sale in December

it works great on the flyer too. Used it on Gumbys desensified rom too as I didn't care for the aosp camera. One thing though if you want wide screen with zoom fx, 3.2mp is as high as you can go, where the htc app will go all the way to 5

I think the HTC camera app is quite good , but it depends on exactly what you are trying to do, which is not really clear. The HTC apps gives you control of all the settings which you may lose on some apps. Can you describe what the problem is exactly. There are some specialty apps for documents that has post processing that might help
The stock camera is better than alot of camera apps, however when i take a picture of text, some area's tend to be blurry and zooming in makes them worse. The depth of field is bad, but i assume that is mainly a hardware thing? Camera Zoom FX works slightly better, text is more readable and you can zoom in a little without blurring it.

Depth of filed is related to the lens and aperture and has nothing to do with software other than you can adjust some parameters to make it more or less.
Zoom will always make resolution worse because there is no optical zoom and when you"zoom" you are doing it digitally and getting less resolution. 3.2mp can never be as good as 5mp so I assume you are simply holding the camera more steady and the app has little to do with it.
Try this. on the stock app, change the effect to depth of field, set the ISO to 100 if you have enough light or 200 if you need more brightness. Do not zoom.
You will have to hold very steady and straight. Watch the focus, it won't focus is you are too close to the subject.

Ok, that settings do work slightly better, still not the greatest, im just going to write this off to the hardware component.
A few years ago my friend had this phone http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_j105_naite-2818.php
The camera was amazing, only 2MP but took really good pics.
Well I"m still not sure what you are trying to do, but I get consistently fine results with the flyer using the app Scan2PDF for documents. The Flyer does not have a flash, so you have to make sure you have good light without shadows. Otherwise the camera in the flyer is as good or better than most tablets and phones. Like any camera , even $3000 DSLRS, when you do closeups, the depth of field is very short.
Ok, say for instance when im studying, my textbooks are like 1k pages and it takes up space when its open and its an effort to navigate; i take a pic of a page or 2 and it makes it easier to work with. Thing is, it doesn't come out very great. If i take a pic of the whole page, some parts are less readable, almost like it doesn't focus the whole thing. If i take a pic of a paragraph, then it comes out fine. It doesn't seems as clear as it should be for a 5MP camera. Again, i think its just the hardware.
Yeah most of the reviews of the flyer were great but it got knocked on the camera.

I think that CamScanner is one of the best apps for your purpose. It's free, and it automatically does a lot of image post processing to give you the clear text you are looking for, alongside cropping out the background, etc.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using XDA Premium HD app
the more light you provide the greater the depth of field will be, but you still need to have the subject flat and evenly lighted. Same for any camera, if you cant provide a reasonable subject, the camera cannot defy the laws of physics.

Weak camera, how to make it better?

Hi Guys,
Ever since ICS and now JellyBean roms the camera quality has worsened...virtually unusable in poor lighting, night pictures impossible and very bad focusing even in good lighting, no detail in pictures and zooming in is just a blur....cheapest no-name camphones from china shoot better pictures than this
The Amaze camera from Gingerbread roms was the best.
How can I get decent pictures again with my EVO 3D...? this is supposed to be a shooteroo

For night time, you just have to put on the torch before you capture the image.
As far as the rest, it is what it is.
A torch is ok when your subject is 4 feet away but doesnt fix the camera...Gingerbread Amaze camera was far better and even had a night shot modus
Have you tried taking a night shot in the street for example? You only see the few lights and everything else is pitch black...
Yeah. Because of the low light and this cameras weird autofocus parameters, I've always had to use the finger technique.
If only they added the manual switch for us. But nope, they had to be scrubs.
The zoom-in blur is due to the fact that it's not a hardware zoom, it's a software zoom, so it blows up the picture, and then cuts out the edges. The quality would be terrible anyways. But, the camera quality should be OK. Look into Pimp My ROM, I changed my cam quality and it has been pretty noticeable for me, due to ROMs having really bad camera configurations, lol.
I meant zoom in into normal pictures...
For example a picture of several people huddled together, when I enlarge (zoom in) everybody is out of focus
which pimp my rom, is it an app?

Yup, it's an application available for free in the Play Store, it's basically an AIO app for tweaking your phone if you have root access. And are you talking about how, if you take a picture, it looks completely fine zoomed out, but if you try to blow it up (double-tap zoom), it looks low quality? If you are, that's also in the Pimp my ROM app, I personally don't know how to make this better by hand, I do know that PMR has it. But it has to do with it being JPEG, which is highly compressed image type, hence low quality.
Thanks, I was thinking more along the lines of a new camera app than a complete rom pimping app...
If you remember Amaze camera from Gingerbread used to be very good.....
I asked in the Yoda thread if it was possible to install that in ICS but its not---

I've honestly never used the Amaze camera, the camera on my ROM seems to be working completely fine to me, then again I always resize my images for size issues, which tends to fix up the blurs in the process.

[Q] how to enhance Camera Quality of Moto E??

as you all know it doesn't have flash and not even auto-focus feature. so its pretty depressing to take pics especially at night.
if anyone knows how to increase camera quality(especially at night) by any means like some settings or a different camera app then let me know. thanks.

the only possible feature available is to turn on hdr..(not auto)and set exposure manually..this will give a clear pic even in low light..am perfect with this..and use google camera's hdr to take pics of notes or books,etc..it will be more prominent..and the camera is good outdoors...but indoor use is horrible..
and yes one more thing..if you have time and want to take macro shots..just place a magnifying glass infront of your camera lens and adjust the distance to get a clear shot..
thats all i have discovered till now..
[QRCODE]just hit thanks if i helped[/QRCODE]
