Hi there,
I have a problem that i suspect others may have, i did my searching on google and on xda but found nothing so i have no other choice but to post. I am trying to fastboot flash a prerooted .67 firmware, i put my phone into fastboot and connected the usb cable, the led STAYS blue that seems to be fine(i have installed fastboot drivers using flashtool /drivers directory), i type in the fastboot command to flash it and it just sticks at "waiting for device".
Any ideas?
Thanks
What happens when you type:
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
Also:
1. Disable any antivirus
2. reboot your PC
3. Change to another USB port
4. Make sure the .img is in the same folder as the fastboot.exe
Try fastbooting an official firmware instead if that works then I believe you have encountered the 'bug' in the bootloader that is currently stopping any custom roms

Hi,
you know that every smartphone has a flash and a fast boot Feature ?
Some Smartphone, look´s like Sony, use:
Speaker UP Button and USB Connect for Fastboot
(by Sony the Home Button lights blue)
and
Speaker Down Button and USB Connect for Flash
(by Sony the Home Button lights green)
For Fastboot.exe ........ xy.img must be use the Fastboot
Feature.
In first using Fastboot.exe, after Phone Connect you must
wait that the PC find all Drivers.
If Fastboot doesn´t work again, maybe you need "SDK Android"
and "Google SDK Driver"... will find over Net.
Doesn´t work again, the use "Flashtool.exe" Methode and
convert the xy.xy Firmware to xy.ftf for Flashtool use.
Onex1
my version is 0.5
i tried all of this except the last point of Onex1. Nothing works still sticks at waiting for device. Also havent restarted my pc i will try that soon but i think that might be a long shot.
Also my device is recognised as an adb device if that helps.
Any ideas guys? I have been trying but now im all spent. My xperia s is unlocked and factory bootloader unlocked if that helps
I know this thread is really old, but I was having this same issue and it was fixed by using a newer version of the Android SDK. So if you're having problems, try updating!
U must enable USB debugging mode
Send from Xperia U
i have the same issue
power on off button is broke
i can boot to recovery but i cant select to flash anything because of the button its not working
adb works for me too because its recognized when i write adb devices but when i write fastboot devices nothing happens and everything i do it says waiting for device
anyway PrakashGD, he said adb is working, that means USB Debugging is ON, if it was off adb would've not worked duh
Ensure fastboot driver is installed

Hi
I have got a hero on the cheap currently using an iPhone boot looking to move over.
The hero has a custom rom on it, I would liketo try others. Holding down the home button and powering on just leaves it with the G2 boot screen. Holding down back button and power brings me into fastboot USB. When connected to the mac I am unable to see the device / list it using adb devices. If I boot into the os and connect to the mac not mounting the sdcard I can see the device with adv devices.
I'm trying to install a recovery image, this is proving dificult with not seeing the device in fastboot.
Has anyone any thought/suggestions on to resolve? Or point me in the direction of some threads to read.

use fastboot devices when in fastboot...
HI,
thanks for the reply, when in fastboot on the device I use fastboot which i have downloaded from the andriod site and put in my "tools" folder when trying to lash a recovery image it just comes back with a prompt saying "waiting for device"
thanks
just to make sure: you turn off the phone, then turn it on again while holding down BACK. this brings you to a screen with a white background and fastboot written somewhere. then you plug in the usb cable and execute "fastboot devices". if it still doesn't recognize your device then you got a problem somewhere, no idea where though. not sure if windows needs drivers or anything for fastboot to work correctly...
Yes that's correct.
Phone is recognize in everything other than when connected by fastboot.
Thanks for your input
Hi!
I've been trying to flash my Xperia Mini with Cyanogenmod 9, but I'm stuck at step 6 under Flashing CyanogenMod in the Xperia Mini full guide. (Would post link, but as I do not have 10 posts, I can't. :crying: )
I've followed through the entire guide, successfully unlocked the bootloader and so on. However, after step 5 (Volume up + connect to computer = blue LED, which should be correct according to the guide), the device will not appear in command prompt after typing "adb devices". However, it appears whenever the phone is on and connected to the PC (with USB debugging enabled).
I have tried everything from reinstalling drivers (from the official Sony website, Google USB drivers, the ones that are mentioned in the guide for use with CM flashing, etc.) to the whole process of reinstalling the Android SDK. I have tried googling around with no luck, despite finding tonnes of threads with people having the same problem. Anyone know what might be the problem?
Download Flashtool and connect the device in Fastboot mode (volume up while connecting usb). What happens? Flashtool reports a device in fastboot mode?

It appears in DooMLoRD's "Get Device Info" for some reason. What should I do here? Proceed to flash using Flashtool through "Select kernel to Flash"?
*EDIT*
I got things working! Installed it through recovery and everything is working fine! Thanks!
Okay, so basically I am a HUGE idiot. My phone has been running the latest version of ParanoidAndroid and I decided that I wanted to try MIUI. I booted into TWRP v2.6.3 and wiped everything a couple of times before installing it, and I forgot to install the boot.img afterwards (it was s-on). So now everytime I turn the phone on, it is just always on the boot animation for an eternity, and my computer won't recognize my phone so I can't use fastboot or use an RUU. I am also unable to flash PH98IMG from the phone itself. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thank you very much in advance.

Take out the battery, put it back together, power on the phone while holding down the volume down key til you get the splash screen, that'll boot you to the bootloader...
No I understand that, but there's nothing I can do from the bootloader. Once I get there, I can either go to TWRP or choose Fastboot. When I choose fastboot, it will say Fastboot USB after connecting to my PC but it will still not show up or be recognized (and I have the drivers). My only other options are Recovery (TWRP), factory reset (also TWRP), clear storage, simlock, and image crc. All I need to do is load the boot.img file, but it appears to me I have no way of doing that now.

Being seen in fastboot has nothing to do with the ROM at all, you need to troubleshoot this from the PC end. When you start fastboot on the phone and connect to your PC you get nothing? Not even a connect sound?

I do get the connect and disconnect sounds. Whenever it makes the connect sound, it doesn't show up under "Devices with Removable Storage." When I heard the connect sound the first time I went to the cmd prompt and typed "fastboot devices" but it showed nothing.

It won't show up as a drive at all in Fastboot mode, to see if it is connected properly go to Device Manager and look for ADB Interface -> My HTC, if it isn't there then your drivers are not installed properly. Drivers come from HTC Sync, which can be downloaded here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/content.aspx?id=6196 once installed and the connections in Fastboot and ADB verified to be working, HTC Sync can be uninstalled (the drivers will stay).
When you run "fastboot devices" you get nothing? Or do you get something like "< waiting for device >" or literally nothing?
What version of Windows are you running, you need to be on Windows 7 or older? Running under Windows 8 is not recommended.

Ah, that may be my problem then, as I am on a Windows 8 computer. I will try all of this on a friends W7 computer in the next few hours and report back with the results. And when I did fastboot devices it literally said nothing and was ready for another command. Thanks for the help!

You can also use a live Linux CD like Ubuntu and boot that and install the Linux version of ADB, it works fine.
My Z5 compact was updated to Nougat using the OTA service.
The bluetooth integration to my car stopped working and I read that this was a noted problem I decided to flash my phone back to Marshmallow.
I'd installed custom ROMs on previous HTC phones following info from XDA so was pretty confident.
After following the Sony guidelines and obtaining my unlock key I am unable to get it to work in fastboot mode.
I suspect that it is a USB problem at one end or another.
If I connect up the phone to the PC using the original lead I can find it using adb devices and the device is showing up as error free "Sony sa0113 ADB Interface Driver" in Windows 10 device manager.
However the phone isn't charging and I can't get it into Fastboot by holding the up vol key and plugging in the USB lead.
I can get a black screen with the blue led by running adb reboot bootloader and the phone is recognised from fastboot devices but when I try to unlock the bootloader I get an error:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xB4D9AxxxxC359F2C
...
FAILED (remote: Command did not succeed)
finished. total time: 0.042s
Any help appreciated.

Thanks. I think I am OK there because I accepted the drivers from an unverified source during installation.
Also I can see the phone with both adb devices and fastboot devices
However when I run adb reboot bootloader the phone reboots but comes up with a blank screen with the blue led.
adb reboot bootloader just goes into bootloader mode and not fastboot mode which is needed to unlock it. Go directly into fastboot by typing adb reboot fastboot
Then when your phone led is flashing blue, run your fastboot "oem unlock" command.
Saw now that you already tried that sorry about that.
Tried running cmd with admin privileges to see if that shows any difference?
Also from sony:
Please note! It will only be possible to unlock the boot loader for certain releases. You can check if it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your device in the service menu by following the steps below:
In your device, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

You don't need to unlock your bootloader to simply downgrade to official MM! Just use flashtool to flash the appropriate MM ftf. There are plenty guides available on XDA and elsewhere.
I'm lost in your explanation.
You wanted to unlock your bootloader to be able to downgrade your phone? That's right? And it's fine to me, but you don't need to do that if you don't feel like. Unlocking your bootloader is nog necessary to downgrade to MM via flashtool.
So you tried to unlock your bootloader. But what you write what happened afterwards is completely unclear to me, because it contradicts itself.
-->> "Also I can see the phone with both adb devices and fastboot devices"
Fine. This means your connected with your phone and fastbook recognizes your phone. So bootloader is unlocked and software to control that works fine.
-->> "However when I run adb reboot bootloader the phone reboots but comes up with a blank screen with the blue led."
Fine, so you unlocked your bootloader, and rebooted in fastboot.
-->> Obviously. It's an unlocked bootloader, you can double unlock it or something like that. You can relock it if you want (which doesn't make any difference for what you want to do) but that's a different method.
Is there any reason that you absolutely need to a second method to enter fastboot mode? Or any fastboot mode? It could be possible with another kernel, but I don't see the point to flash another kernel. I would just leave it like it is.

that is notmal behaviour, that is fastboot mode, indicated by that blue LED
Thanks for the clarification that I don't need to unlock the bootloader to downgrade using flashtool. What I didn't say was that I couldn't reinstall Nougat using the Sony tool software restore option or get anywhere with flashtool because the phone won't go into the blue led mode by inserting the USB and holding the up vol button. I did try running flashtool in one window and the command line tools in another with the idea of running flashtool first and then unplugging the phone and replugging it to use command line to get the blue LED state, but that doesn't work because the command line tools can't see the phone once flashtool is running and has addressed the phone.
From what i read, i assume you are on nougat and want to go back to MM, right?
So you would need flashmode instead of fastboot mode.
You get there with holding Vol down button and plugging in USB cable on turned off phone.
Flashmode also shows a green notification light instead of the blue one.
If you having Problems to get there, please check following:
make sure to have latest version of flashtool installed http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
install drivers from your flashtool\drivers folder
don't use an USB 3.0 port or cable(have heard of some people having trouble with)

OP, I had the exact same problem as you. At the time I tried absolutely everything but never found the culprit. So after several months I actually succeeded today
This is the guide I followed - https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/general/guide-how-to-root-z5c-painful-using-t3549388 and it worked perfectly.
A few pointers:
- Go to the service menu (*#*#SERVICE#*#*) before you begin, before you turn OEM Unlocking ON from Dev Options .
- Take note of what it says in Configuration and Firmware.
- Now enable OEM Unlocking and take note again, it should say stuff like Model Number: Unknown and other unknown stuff.
- Reboot - IMPORTANT.
- Use the guide I gave you and you will be fine, it took me ages to find a solution but now I'm on MM and rooted
Hope I helped :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
What has happend with fastboot? I have a rooted phone with twrp 3.3.1.0.
I have used fastboot commands to flash boot.img and recovery.img for years.
Suddenly out of the blue i can´t connect with the phone in fastboot mode. I have tried everything, all kind of different windows drivers, emma, flashtool, drivers from sony, latest driver form google. but i cant get my phone to show up as a device in fastboot mode using fastboot commands. Are there something that has changed lately?
I can connect in flash mode and adb commands works normal.
Usb debugging are on, and I have tried to boot pc without driver signature check.
I have read topics for several days googling and I simply cant get it to work in fastboot.
Please help.
