I've seen plenty of threads on XDA that tell you how to get better performance using the sysctl app, but what I'm interested in is battery life. I know that certain settings within sysctl help improve both both battery and performance based on their functionality, but I also know that in some ways it can be a give/take between performance/battery. my quadrant score is already good enough thanks to cyanogenmod, so I'd be willing to sacrifice 100 points if it would get a few more hours out of my battery.
anyone have any insight on accomplishing this? again, I don't want better performance, there's enough info on that. I want better battery.

Well, i am using hardware acceleration for a while now ant i must say, it works great. UI is more snappy now, being rendered by GPU not CPU. And there are a lot of tweaks to be made to improve the performance and battery of O1.
The easy way and in my opinion, the best, is to flash a custom ROM (you have plenty to chose from) and apply the tweaks you need. You just have to take an hour or two and read carefully the threads dedicated for that, or google the issue.
Of course, any change you do to your phone is on your own risk, so try to read carefully what others say. You may prevent some damage by doing that.
If you are familiar with benchmarking, i can say that some of us got higher scores than a lot of high-range smartphones like Galaxy S or Desire. A lot higher.
Just check the threads dedicated to O1 here on XDA and you can make an opinion.
BTW, Franco's tweaks from the link you posted above are absolutely mad! They bring a lot of improvement on batt and hw.

yea i am running CM7 from milkos and it works great i am overclocked at 806 with his kernal and quandrant benchmark between 1200and 1300 witch is nice yea i like his tweeks too i guess i was just wondering what other things were out there
806 Mhz is a "risky" overclock but if it works great then... GREAT !!! usually i've heard that the best compromise between speed, battery and stability is around 730 Mhz.

Well, as battery life on Mik's 2.3 is not so good for now, i'm running franco's devoid. And i must say, i am most impressed. Very good battery life, outstanding speed and performance. And it has his own tweaks embedded. Adding data2sd could get you to over 1500 pts in quadrant. So it the best rom i found out there until now.

What are some insane tweaks, build.prop hacks and massive scripts that would give you the best performance and the best battery life for your ROM?? I've also heard that you can copy some libs on ICS Dump that would make your ROM even faster??? like what libs are those?? I knew some like loopy smoothness tweak, Supercharger and all the charger stuff...and I also know knzo's tweaks but I still want more
Do you guys tweak the sysctl.conf at all on ICS? I read somewhere that tweaking the OOM on ics will make it slower. Just trying to get the max speed out of this phone without overclocking.

I used to tweak the sysctl.conf to get slightly better speeds out of my 3g connection, but with 4g I don't think much can top those speeds.
