You're asking us about flashing instructions for firmware you downloaded from another site. How bout going to that site & following their instructions for flashing same ?

no i already flashed the stock firmware, and i dont c any problems within a day.
just wonder what are the other 3 downloads use for and do i still have to flash them?

Stock firmware should be the full file with PDA Modem and CSC
No mention of 3 files in the instructions there .
How to install the latest firmware on your phone. This will also get rid of Bell's bloatware:
1) Make sure you have working drivers installed on your computer. If you do not, the easiest way is to download Kies and it will install it for you.
2) Install Odin 1.85 on your computer (attached at the bottom of this post)
3) Pick any firmware version you would like to flash from Intratech's thread linked here. The firmware is arranged from oldest to newest so the last ones are obviously going to be the newest.
4) Start Odin in "administrator" mode and make sure Kies is not running in the background. Use task manager to check
5) Place your downloaded firmware .tar or .md5 file into the PDA section in Odin. Make sure re-partition is not selected. Auto reboot and reset time should be selected by default.
The stock rom link says
If the package only contains one .tar archive then it will have everything, pda+phone+csc, in the one file.
If it has multiple .tar archive then:
The .tar with modem in the name is the phone/baseband bit of the package
.tar with csc/multi-csc in the name is the csc bit of the package
.tar with code/PDA in the name is the PDA part of the firmware package
If this is the case you will need to put these .tar archives in the specific areas of Odin to flash the update

thx
yea it didnt mention about the other 3 packages in that post
but i think as long as i flashed the stock one, i should be fine and dont need to care the others right?

Flashing Simply Honey Revolution 3.9

Hey guys so I am interested in flashing the simply honey revolution ROM on my samsung vibrant. But I am stuck. The instructions call for you to flash via Odin with the 512 PIT file. But when I download the light version for first flash in the instructions I find a .tar file. How do I flash this rom? Thanks for your help!
I have the same question, since I am used to work on the EVO 4G but not this phone. Any help will be appreciated. I already flashed a gingerbread bootloader, but I still need to flash this ROM.
Put the tar file in the pda and pit in the pit section.
just use that file but open PDA selection. it will flash it. also make sure you odin a gingerbread boot loader first.
Ok, understanding a little bit more. Right know I have the zip and the tar file inside that one. I don't have any Pit file mentioned. Also in the instrutions doesn't say if the phone needs to be in download mode or whatever mode. Thanks for any other info.
It should be in download mode to use ODIN.
Okay let me see if I have this process correct. From the page I download this http://www.multiupload.com/KP8HBPR20Z from under the instructions coming from eclair/froyo. Inside I see the .tar file. (not a .pit file). In ODIN i put the .tar file under PDA and click start. Once that is done I can download the bootloader and flash that via ODIN. Is this correct?
yeh
or you could use rom manager to flash whichever package you want after odining the light version instead of flashing the bootloaders
dont do it
I just went through hell flashing that rom and even BRICKED my phone. (well semi-brick, none of the buttons worked) I made the same mistake as you. Dont use the Simply_Honey_3.8_LightOdin file, use the one that is named simply_ODIN_HEIM . The light odin is bull****. Didnt work for me. I dont even want to guess why...
Good Luck!
Remember to open the .zip and extract the .tar, zip's cant be flashed in odin

[Q] ROM Confusion

Hi all,
I just downloaded this stock ROM from SamFirmware.com as it was a KG6 build and I wanted to give it a shot. When I went to unzip the ROM, it contained 5 files. I know which files go where in Odin when there are 4 files but this one has got me confused. The confusing part for me (being a noob) is the fact that there is a Kernel and a Code file...where do these 2 files go under? They both can't possibly be selected under the PDA section so is one a boot loader file??? I have taken a screencap of the zip file contents so that hopefully someone can explain where the 2 particular files go in Odin.
Thanks all.
How about following the instructions first .
Who told you to unzip it ???
Odin flash tar file via PDA .

Well he would need to unzip the archive if he wants to use the included tarballs to flash his device.
@OP: When you open Odin 1.85 just put the following in the slots as below:
PDA: Code_I9100XXKG6.......
Phone: Modem_I9100XXKG6.......
CSC: GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKG6.....
Ignore the rest of the files. Don't need to use .pit file and make sure you don't tick repartition. I would encourage you to read up on using Odin first if you don't know what you're doing before attempting to flash.
Thanks Intratech..I am familiar with Odin as I have flashed my device successfully many times. Just never encountered both the Kernel and Code in the same zip so wasn't too sure whether I should use both or just one.
just curious but what is the actual difference between the two??
also, pit file is used to reset the path no?? as in wipe the lot except cutom binary hits??
cheers
col
Also wat happens when u do click repartition??? Done it by accident once phones fine??
Wat does pit stand for!?
Partition info tree? Lol who knows?

[Q] Flashing new modem software

Is it necessary to root the phone before we can flash a different modem version or can we just conect it and flash via ODIN?
I've searched around for this, but couldn't find any clear answer. The posts on moden flashing says "use ODIN" but doesn't indicate wether rooting is needed or not.
Can someone help me? Thanks in advance
rooting is not needed when flashing with odin.
You need to be rooted in order to use CWM.
@Cosmic Blue : Thanks for the clarification
In odin, I just need to select the required modem file against the Phone section and then flash, right?

Go through intratech's thread first page..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
read it like 10 times before flashing..otherwise another "I bricked my phone" will start
N yes in ODIN select the file in PDA section and flash.
"Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted in
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin "

[Q] [Help] Flash Intratech's official branded firmware.

A few month's ago I flashed an official android 2.3.6 rom onto my phone. I'm not a developer but had no problems flashing the new rom onto my phone with a tutorial. However, I want to flash back the branded firmware (BELL-PDA: UGKG2 Phone: UGKG2 CSC: BMCKG2) which I have already downloaded. When I read intratech's post on how to flash, the file extensions for the branded rom files do not end in .tar or .md5. The files I have through extraction are:
cache.img
factoryfys.img
modem.bin
zimage
Hence, I am unable to flash through Odin due to these file extensions. What exactly do I need to do?

Instructions say do not unzip the single downloaded file past the tar file to the internal components .

In that case it's a .exe file.
In that case it's a .exe file.
Edit: Ok, what I was doing was extracting the file by right clicking. Now I indeed have a .tar file, which I have done the same with for the Kernal file I also downloaded from intratech's list. However, don't I need 3 files to complete the flash with Odin?
Where is it from this file their should be instructions .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
first page from the mans instructions .
27/05/2011
1. I have changed the format with which I compress the archives. They are now .7z self-extracting files that have .exe at the end. This is because this compresses the files more and so makes for faster upload and downloading and also makes it easier for you to extract the package. Just double click and it will extract the .tar package for you without the need to use any program to unpack.
The instructions do not mention three files .
Its one file with all files inside....
Just flash the .tar in pda and everithing will OK...
cache.img - factoryfys.img---->Its your bell PDA UGKG2
modem.bin--->Its your Phone UGKG2
zimage--->Its your kernel
cheers
Thank you for clearing that up for me.
Had this same problem but i just removed the md5 extension and voila. Tar file ready to be flashed
Also make sure you unzip it with 7zip

Developers Tip: If you want to flash firmware without wiping your data, make sure there is no pit file selected under the PIT tab in Odin, then extract and remove cache.img.ext4 then repack as a .tar file. Applies to both combo and 4 file firmware packages. In 4 file packages, cache.img.ext4 is in the CSC file. However, in some cases this may put your device in a bootloop.
Cheers!
Sorry but... what is the diference between "4 file" and "combo"?

The simplest way to explain 4 file is in Odin, there are 4 firmware slots. The "4 File .rar package" has the correct file for each slot in Odin to flash. Example, extract the .rar package you (might have) downloaded, and you will see 4 .tar files and the pit file. So the BL_xxx_xxxxxxxx_xxxxxxxx_xxxxxx_HOME.tar file would go in the BL slot in Odin.
Combo is basically all of those files that would be in the 4 .tar archives put into one. If you choose to download this file, the .tar package must be flashed though the AP slot in Odin.
And the .PIT file would go under the PIT tab in Odin.
If you don't want to lose your data while flashing, you can do this:
-Don't use the pit file in Odin
--or--
-If you chose to download the 4 file firmware, don't flash the CSC file and don't use the pit file.
--or--
-if you chose to download the combo firmware, you can use 7zip (I recommend downloading it onto your pc if you don't have it already) to extract the archive and delete cache.img.ext4, then repack the remaining files (Except the pit file) into a new .tar archive.
Cheers!

Open Odin and look to the right of the window, you will see 4 buttons, named "BL" "AP" "CP" and "CSC"
Extract the respective 4 file firmware from the downloaded .rar package to your desktop or downloads folder and open the folder once completed.
From there, you can insert the 4 .tar files into Odin. Once in Odin, click on the BL slot and navigate to the folder that contains the extracted files. Once there, select the tar file with the letters BL at the very beginning, and vice versa.
Example: BL_G850AUCU1BOC6_G850AATT1BOC6_LRX22G_HOME.tar (which is the bootloader files for lollipop firmware) would go under the BL slot in Odin.
Screenshot: https://mega.nz/#!2pZlGboI!M5YA2RGn0ufZ_bdVIFg6AD3xIH3iHg00JrAgHoo0OP8
If you downloaded the combo (all in one) firmware package, extract everything in the .rar file and place the .tar package under the AP slot in Odin, and if you want to perform a clean reset, make sure the .PIT file is under the PIT tab then PIT slot in Odin and make sure that "NAND Erase All" and "Re-Partition" is checked under the 'Options' tab.

I have disconnected the phone in the morning and not started, then I installed the bootloader (of lolipop) alone and it is doing well.

Try booting your phone into download mode then reflash the Lollipop bootloader in Odin (BL File goes under the BL slot for 4 file). If you are not wanting to wipe your data, and if you downloaded the 4 file firmware, you can simply reflash the lollipop bootloader files then afterwards go back into download mode then reflash the AP and CP file. The actual bootloader in the phone does allow the flashing of different firmware versions for the device so it sounds like a small bootloader issue.

The G850A Has a locked bootloader, therefore, cannot run TWRP or any custom kernel or recovery.
