[Q] can't install keyboard - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

i tried this method to install keyboard, i tried swype and another keyboard in my language too, but none of them work.
after reboot my NT, i go to accessibility and choose the keyboard, but a prompt warning "force close" showed up. and i can't use it
i didn't try hacker keyboard, but i think it won't work either, and i personally only like swype.
please help. why does that "force close" prompt show up?

Make sure you place the .apk in the correct location. /system/app, then reboot. That should do it.

yeah, i put the .apk in /system/app/ by using root explorer, i also changed permission successfully. i reboot by using adb reboot
can't understand why it doesn't work
at http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-alternate-keyboard-apps-on-nook-tablet-how-to/, they say i need gapps installed, but i only installed google play store, googleservicesframework,... (just some gapps, not all)
would that be the reason?

I'm confused? I just installed Hacker just using the install process. No, doing any of the above stuff. Now I've got a choice of keyboards to use.

The workaround install process is only on the stock ROM. Other ROMs don't have this issue.

try reinstalling it again. but delete swype.apk from root explorer or you can just uninstall it... after that install swype again and wait for it to generate license( don't do anything).
I am having, the same problem. I had it working before i upgraded to the newest version of swype.

Do what this guy said... however a little more detailed:
Delete the Swype.apk file in System/App/ using root explorer. Once you do that, re-install using the installer utility.
You should be able to license at that point.
Edit: I did have an issue once where it was trying to add the license file to one of the com.swype folders in Data/Data/. If you do the steps but still can't license, go into that folder and give R/W permissions to any com.Swype folder.

Honestly, Just google Swype Beta, Sign up, enter your info. You can then download Swype installer and then you can use Sywpe. Version 3.0 just came out a few days ago.

Try this,
1. Uninstall swype, swype installer, or any left over cache
2. Search for any swype files or lib and delete them
3. Reboot
4. Install the apk attached
5. Log in, choose swype english, install, follow the directions on there until it's finished. Otherwise it won't license it if you don't follow all the directions from the app
http://db.tt/2GoUggF
I think the way I got it to "disable" Swype so it could license it or whatever was to just switch to the other keyboard momentarily.
well anyways im having the same problem but in simply honey 3.8
tried this, but it still won't license. I made sure i hit swype english. any suggestions?

If it is installed, go to settings, language and keyboard, uncheck Swype, then open Swype Installer and have it license it...let me know if it still doesn't work.

[Q] App in /system/app but not in drawer!!

I tried to install Gmail.apk, and decided to use Root Explorer to copy it to /system/app. I changed the permissions, rebooted, and it is indeed in the folder where I left it, but nowhere to be seen in the app drawer. It doesn´t even appear on the manage applications. I want to this to more apps, but if I can´t do to one...
I tried signing the .apk and install it: gives me a parsing error;
I tried signing a .zip file and flash through xrecovery and managed to get the file in the system/app folder, but again, nothing on the app drawer.
I tried using ADB mask, and when I try to push the app into the system, it says it couldn´t install;
I tried command line, using SDK, but doesn´t recognize "adb" command. Tried console emulator, but permission denied.
Is it me or is my mobile picking up a fight with me? Can someone help?
Why dont you just try to download it from the market and install automatically that way?

Because it doesn´t appear on my market... And I also want to install more stuff, like the new blue market from pendo, so I would like to know what to do so I can continue to install more apps like this.
There will be a reason it doesnt appear in the market for you and that will be why you cant install it
WHat rom are you running?

I´m using EWJet with custom kernel, baseband 67.
Try flashing this
Reboot and login to market, accept the agreement.
Then flash this and this in that order without rebooting inbetween

Well it seems I need to do a fresh install, since I must have done something wrong to the system files... I flashed Gapps, and ever app appears except the ones from Google (Gmail, Gtalk, etc...). Is google against me today? =)
I think I´m going to flash the rom again and before rebooting, I´ll flash Gapps, what do you think?
Sounds like a plan....
let me know how it goes
No, it didn´t work... After clean install, and flashing gapps, gmail and market disappeared... Maybe some kind of incompability between the Rom and this market?
EDIT: It still appears in the /system/app... But it refuses to appear in the app drawer.
try adding the market widget to the home screen. Long press on it and n choose android widget.
That might work.

Thanks for your effort, but it doesn´t appear the market widget. It´s like the market is only a file that is filling space in the system folder, and that doesn´t have any connection to the rest. It seems this rom isn´t compatible with other markets (which is very weird...).
Thanks for the help. If someone comes up with a soltuion to my problem, I´ll be very happy to hear it.
The only thing I can think of its that you are trying to instal 2.2 versions into a 2.1 rom.
Try finding google apps from eric will's thread about his rom.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yes I remembered that too, but didn´t know there was gmail and market that were different, meaning that what works in 2.2 may not work in 2.1... If that´s the case, I better give up, since there isn´t any other verion of blue market... Oh well, green it is.
If you flash back to stock with SEUS then make backups with titanium backup you should be able to restore the 2.1 versions of gmail.
As for blue market, I think that's just for 2.2+

[Q] What am I Missing

I have a gtab with custom ROM Calkulin-Clemsyn Combo Overclock at 1.5ghz V6. It came with VTL Launcher V1.6.1 installed and running great.
I tried to update to VTL Launcher V 1.6.5 without any luck. It goes through the install process but I get a message "Application not installed."
What am I doing wrong???
Thanks.
You're not really doing anything wrong. THe market identified that you have the app, but since you didn't download it from the market (it came preinstalled) it may not install it becuase of that.
just go here:
http://vegantab.gojimi.com/vt-labs/vtl-launcher/
and download the APK and sideload it.
File link: http://vtlab.com/downloads/VTLLauncher_1_6_5.apk
They have instructions on their website, so I suggest you read them first
Still No Luck
I downloaded the app to a thumb drive plugged into the gtab, and opened the file. Told to install, but get the same "did not install" message.

Might be worth trying to uninstall the old one before you try to install the new one. Havent seen this on my gtab, but it happens on my phone sometimes. Uninstall using the Applications settings (or moving the apk if that does not work).
Since it is probably your default launcher you might have to download some other launcher (launcher pro?) and maybe Home Switcher to switch to it, make sure it works, before you uninstall VTL.
Anyway backup your rom (using CWM), before you try removing any system app in case you end up launcher less.

[Q] Application Google service framework force close after rooting

Hi everyone
After rooting my Nook tablet, I keep getting the popup "The application Google services Framework(process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly" every time I reboot. I have to choose "Force close" it.This is so annoying.
Do you guys have any idea how to fix it ?
Thank you
I haven't seen it on the Nook, but I was getting it on the Iconia A500. Turn off all syncing on your Accounts and then re-enable a service at a time until you figure out which one is causing the issue.
In my case, it was web syncing, however that's not an option on the Nook (I don't think).
Make sure you have
ContactsProvider.apk and
CalendarProvider.apk
in the /system/app folder

I have both of these installed in that location and I still get force close after reboot each time. It doesn't affect anything so I haven't worried about it.

I'm getting the same "The application Google services Framework(process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly" after a reboot. I followed the steps in the first post on rooting the Nook Tablet. Everything seems to work OK except for Google Talk, that force closes.
I also have the files that suggested.

I am having this same issue. Any help or suggestions other than confirming the .apks are in place.
Thanks.
I'm also having the issue but I haven't noticed any ill affects other than it is a little annoying
Here’s my framework apk, I am not sure if it will solve your FC problem.
You can use ES File Explorer to do this; it’s free from the market. You have to enable Root Explorer and Mount File System as writable in the Settings. In the Directory Settings, change current directory to “/”, without the quotation. Click back to main screen, click on the Star button, and click Home.
Copy the framework apk to /system/app/ and override the existent framework apk.
To set permission, just go to apk Properties by holding on the apk and scrolled down to Properties.
Has anybody tried to use succulent's google framework file or figured out another way to fix this problem? I've tried a factory restore by doing 8+ failed boots and re-rooted the device, installing gapps with Indirect's root method and I still immediately get the force close each time the tablet restarts.
How do you disable syncing for contacts/calander for the nook? I couldn't find that so I didn't try that method yet.
Are the permissions correct for it? rw-r--r--?

I am having the same trouble as the others. I tried your file and am still having the same problem.
I factory restored last night and re-rooted. No fc on startup now. It must be something I did later.
I downloaded the newest version, after searching google for it. I was able to install the new one fine, and now it is working fine. I beleive its the same version that was installed when I rooted last night, that one just wouldnt reinstall.

Any chance you could share where you got this? I see lots of results for GoogleServicesFramework.apk, but none that look anywhere near official.

Same problem cropped up for me.
Fixed it by clearing data for Google Services Framework: Settings...ApplicationSettings...ManageApplications...All...GoogleServicesFramework...ClearData
After reboot, all was well.

Well....
After a few more reboots, the problem returned. Cleard by fixing permissions in CWM recovery under advanced menu. Rebooted twice. All is well (fingers crossed).

Keyboard keeps reverting to stock

When I try switching the keyboard to Swiftkey it will always change back to the stock keyboard. Sometimes it happens after using the keyboard once and sometimes after using it a few times. I'm not doing anything specific each time the change happens. The phone is rooted and even though I have Xposed installed, I have not changed any keyboard related settings using Xposed and the issue was occurring before I had even installed it. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks very much.

Did you Greenify swiftkey? If yes that's the problem. If not, this is reported to work on swiftkey forums. OR, freeze your stock keyboard so it has no choice but to use swiftkey.
Using ES File Manager
1) Open ES File Manager
2) Click on the menu button of your device
3) Click on "Manager"
4) Click on "App Manager"
5) Long press on app you want to extract
6) Click on "backup"
7) Extracted .apk files will be placed on the "backups" directory of your sd card
Now install this new backup over your existing Swiftkey. *Should* stay there forever now.

Thanks very much for the response. I completely forgot that I had used Greenify to hibernate Swiftkey so I disabled that setting. However, the issue came back even after making that change. I ended up just freezing the stock keyboard and that seems to have done the trick so far. Thanks again. I sincerely appreciate the help.
