This is a test thread for those experiencing excessive battery drain on the latest RUU leak 3.11.605.22.
This is only a test! I dont know if this will fix anything! Pleast post your findings!
Background
Some people with the latest kernel from 3.11.605.22 leak are experiencing excessive battery drain accompanied with excessive heat. I and others believe this is kernel related and need some people to test the older kernels with the latest leak. This is meant only for those with these symptoms. If you are not having this problem then skip this thread!
Instructions
Install the 3.0.13 Kernel and test battery and heat. Flash in recovery like any other mod / ROM. It will then reboot to boot loader and from there you press power to make phone scan the SD card and then allow it to update the boot.img
Notes
The 3.0.13 kernel had the blue flash issue. Do not report that bug. I know it exist and you know it exist. The purpose of this thread is to for drain and heat! The 3.0.13 kernel may not charge 3.8v batteries properly.I honestly cant remember so can you report the findings if you have a 3.8v battery?
You do not need to wipe anything when you flash these kernels.
I have also posted the original kernel from the latest leak so you can revert back.
Once again this is just a test for those experiencing excessive battery and heat problems with the latest RUU leak 3.11.605.22. This is not a fix or work around for any other issue.
Please test these kernel so we can figure out why some are having this issue!
Thanks to Con24 for the install script!
Thanks,
-Scott
Flashed. Will report back.
All good so far. Can't seem to reproduce the high temps. Tethering, charging and camera all at the same time, no heat issue. It's only been an hour. Will report back later. Thanks for your help.

So you had the heat issue before but with the kernel I posted it seems better?
I did test this as I was initially having heat problems with the 3.016 kernal. I was hesitant to post the results as I seem to have more difficulty than most with this particular device. My first install after ruu I had temps around 120 and battery drain. Wiping and reflashing brought it down to about 105 Max, and decent battery life . Since I was about to flash the clean pro I figured what the hell. Flashed the 3.013 kernal and ran it for a couple hours and my temp averaged 115 to 120 again. I then flashed back to the 3.016 kernal and whaddaya know, 115 to 120 again.
Wiped boot, and 5x wiped ...flashed cleanrom pro edition and it hasn't even hit 100 degrees yet.
It should be noted that I believe I have "one of those devices" that sometimes just doesn't work right for whatever reason.

Yes, phone would get very hot while tethering and having it plugged in. Thus far, no more heat issue.
I have a major heat/battery drain problem running the latest leaked RUU. My phone will go from 100% charge down to 50 in less than an hour! It also gets extremely overheated to the point that i end up popping the back cover and battery to let everything cool down. I mean my phone gets HOT. I was thinking I just happened to be one of the "lucky" few with a "bad" device but I will try flashing the kernel and report my findings back here . I'll keep my fingers crossed!!
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I'm wondering if on some devices if the actual flashing of kernal may be going wrong somehow. If someone flashes this and still has a heat issue could you try simply reflashing the kernal.

I'm going to try this as my phone hit 130 today streaming music on 4g. I did notice the 5x wipe post and was curious. What exactly are you wiping 5 times?
It wipes data and System for a new rom flash.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Will flash this and test tonight. An interesting side note last night. I got a lined blue screen when turning the screen on. I hadn't seen that in a while on the old leaks. Haven't had any blue flicker so it was quite the surprise.

So then your running the Wipe All data / factory reset option 5 times? Just asking cause you can do individual area wipes too.
Yes. It's just to make it easier for people that like to wipe multiple times.

So I tried the old kerenel and the battery drain is a little bit better but still it drains fast
Drain about the same. Not charging 3.8 battery past 93%.
Yea, not much change here, Seems cooler, but drains the same. I am gonna flash cleanrom 4.1 pro and 5xwipe and see if a clean install of everything is any better. Will post back with more later.
Have you guys reached out to IMO for kernel help? I read he was interested in making rezound kernels. The more help the better.
I've been trying to replicate the heating and battery drain problem by switching back and forth between the two kernels but have been unsuccessful. It's strange because I did the exact same thing. The only difference is that when I got it to heat up this morning I was on cleanrom regular, now on pro.
Makes it seem completely random.

Mine is 28 C and I'm using phone for more than 2 hours, internet browser. If you tried differents rom and kernel and still nothing, I suggest you to clear up you phone. Reboot in recovery, mount and storage and format system, data, cache, factory reset, boot in download mode, flash stock ics rom, then root with cf root kernel. Then install again rom which you're using at the moment.
I9100 has the highest heat emission (my brothers 35 degrees)
I9100T is better (mines 28 degrees)
I9100G has the best i hear but i cant confirm that
The best you can do is find a good modem, as i noticed ever since i switched from LPQ to LP6 i've heated up a lot less
i also use siyah so i think that doesn't cause huge amounts of heating, as mentioned before always close apps
Hope this helped and good luck

you will have to figure out, use instructions here
My SGS2 is going back for repairs due to overheating. It started by draining a full battery in an hour. Battery temp was 64C and now it heats up just by inserting the battery and not even turning on the phone. Not possible to charge it either. Tried flashing stock rom, factory resets but no go so my belief is that this is a hardware issue and not a software problem. Needless to say it has never been close to water or any other fluids. I got the phone about two months ago so hopefully this will be, and should be IMO, covered by warranty.
Will be interesting to see what the repair center says...

Hi,
My Wife's GS2 had a problem overheating recently too - it was stock ROM, not even rooted, so it wasn't overclocked. I pulled it apart, racking my brains trying to find the problem. I tried updating the the latest official ROM, updating the Modem, but nothing...
It turned out that her Internal SD Card was full, which must have been causing IO issues, and the the CPU to overwork or something, because as soon as I transferred all the photos etc. from the card, and cleared caches, it resumed running at a reasonable temperature.
Sometimes the answer is simpler than the one we're looking for - or it certainly was in my case.
Hope that helps.
Hi...mine was heating up like hell too, and its 3 days old...
for me it was the facebook mobile application on samsung galaxy sII i9100 (ICS). Installed KH3 modem , no change .. but task manager showed 30-66 cpu usage...the top 10% surface of the face of the phone and the back of the phone near the camera was searing hot, somewhere up to 50-55 degrees Celsius, making a phonecall in those conditions was very uncomfortable, and i was afraid of hardware damage if that went on. So, If i shut it down and used facebook from browser, it cooled off back to 30-35 degrees in a matter of minutes. only mobile data was turned on, gps, bluetooth, wifi was always off.
So im guessing for these kinda heat-ups (top of the phone and upper back) it is app which drains the CPU...
Note : i had no problems with battery life, meaning it resisted 12h moderate/heavy usage even with facebook mobile app...but i always try to exit all apps when im not using the phone ( bad(?) symbian habit)
you should change the modem :good:

Hello all.
As the title says, I've been having random reboot sessions on my phone lately. When these reboot sessions occur, the battery gets hot.
I'd like to give some more information about my situation:
I've been using CM7.2 on my Huawei u8160 for almost half a year now, without any kind of problems. Lately, the phone started rebooting randomly, especially during phone calls, making the phone almost useless. The reboots also occur when the phone is idle. These reboots drain the battery extremely fast.
I've been using CM7 with the V6 supercharger, as I said, for months without problem. When these reboots started happening, I reflashed the rom, doing a full wipe (clear cache, clear dalvik, format system, format data, factory reset etc.) , but that didn't solve the problem. I reflashed CM7 several times, with / without V6 supercharger, without deleting those system apps that are safe to remove (live wallpapers, update notify etc.). I also reflashed the stock froyo rom the device came with. None of these methods worked.
It is getting more and more frustrating, since they occur randomly, and I can't make a proper phone call, since it's almost guaranteed the phone will reboot during the conversation.
I tried formatting the SD card, using another SD card, resetting the battery stats, using a program on the market and the CMW Recovery - nothing helped.
Another thing I noticed (this may sound very stupid) is that the phone reboots more often when I'm outside (it's winter here now), or when I enter in a warmer place, or when the phone is in my pocket.
I asked an assistant from a nearby Vodafone store, she said that it is a software problem ( -.- ) and that the phone needs to be sent for service. I told her I've already reflashed the software, and she said I only did an update not a full soft flash (lol).
I would really appreciate if anyone could give some suggestions, or help me in any way.
I have also created an error report using the device specific setting menu included in the CM7 rom, which I am attaching here.
Help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Yeah, going to the store after flashing a custom ROM is rarely going to yield favorable results. Honestly, I'd try clearing app data and fixing permissions. What recovery are you using? When in doubt, wipe twice.

The more time you devote to this the more you'll realize that most of the folks at the stores dont know much. It wont hurt to buy a new battery. Wipe the battery stats. Do you use a custom kernel? Ovetclocked? Underclocked? Played with the voltage tables?

Yeah, you're right...
I did wipe the battery stats, let it drain completely and did a full recharge. For the kernel, I don't really know much about these stuff (yet). This is the ROM I use : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259739. Im my phone info menu it says 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #23 (no idea what this means) so I don't know if it's a custom kernel or a stock one. For clock values I use min: 30MHz max: 600MHz (which is the stock value if I'm not wrong). I don't know what you mean by voltage tables, I'd appreciate if you could explain that.
Thanks so far.
Well basically in a nutshell, voltage is the power sent to the CPU. Some custom kernels allow for what's called undervolting. Basically you're you're lowering the amount of power sent to the CPU, where in theory you'll achieve better battery life. However, this can be very dicey. I would not recommend playing with voltage tables until you're a bit more experienced. I asked because undervolting can lead to boot loops and seemingly random reboots. You're running a solid rom with cm7. If you didn't touch it, then that's the stock cm rom. Have you searched the forum thread?

Yes, I haven't touched anything in the ROM I'm using currently.
I've been searching the forums for days before starting this thread, without success.
What I noticed about the reboots is that it occurs almost exclusively when making / receiving a phone call and when the phone is idle.
*edit: I forgot to mention that I'm using Segoe font, not sure if that makes a difference though. I have replaced almost every font in the /system/fonts folder (droid sans+bold+mono and even droid serif+bold+italic+bolditalic)*

__________
I have had a problem with battery life due to l2_hsic wakelock for a long time. The wakelock has been present on both stock ICS and CM 10 with my P7500. Have searched for a solution for weeks and finally realized that the problem it is modem related. Flashed a modem from before ICS, and the wakelock is now gone. What a relief to get my honeycomb battery life back! I am now running CM10 and A1 kernel V1.8.4.
The modem I flashed was XXKK2.

I am also on CM10 4.1.2. Unfortunately, I have not tried using voice calls so I do not know. I am satisfied with mobile data reception, but have not made a thorough comparison.
Well, that was disappointing...
I have the exact same issue with battery life, which on GB used to last almost 2 weeks (when the tab was not used much), and after upgrading to stock ICS 4.0.4 it now can't even hold for 2 days! CPU runs @ 200MHz ~85% of the time the screen is off and there are obviously plenty of l2_hsic wakelocks.
As suggested I replaced modem XXLQ8 with XXKK2, wiped cache and dalvik, but there is absolutely no difference in the battery life or CPU states.
I am truly devastated..
I can't imagine going back to stock GB, so is the only solution left for me now is to try an unstable nightly build of CM 10.1?

Did not do anything better for me, flashed a new modem.... No change.
Hi!
I found the reason of the high number of L2_HSIC wakelocks in my environment.
I have a Canon multifunction scanner/printer, connected via WiFi to my home PC.
It turns out that when you install the "Canon IJ Network Scan Utilities", there's a process called CNMNSUT.EXE that wakes up every second and broadcasts a BJNP packet to the whole local network. These packets are precisely the reason why I used to get so many network-related wakelocks (yes, I also had WLAN_RX_WAKEs).
Now... this process is responsible for the communication between the scanner and the Canon driver running on the PC: more specifically, it's the process that allows you to scan a document entirely from the scanner's panel, without having to do anything on the computer.
So, here's what I did to work around the problem, while still preserving the ability to scan via the panel:
I configured a fixed IP address for the multifunction printer/scanner on my router;
I restricted the communication to and from CNMNSUT.EXE only from/to the printer/scanner's IP address, using a custom rule in my firewall.
In this way, all the broadcast BJNP packets sent by CNMNSUT.EXE are blocked by the firewall, except the ones directed to the printer, and my phone doesn't receive those packets anymore.
I hope this helps at least some of you...

Hi,
Is the wakelock gone for you still? I've noticed it comes back sometimes. Can you please share a screenshots of the battery life and such?
Are you still using A1 kernel and this ROM 10.1 CM
or which ROM are you using?
Has any one tried 10.1v ROM?

Yes, unfortunately the wakelock comes back from time to time, with a few days in between. My dirty fix has been to use the app Reboot Scheduler to reboot my tab every night. A reboot "fixes" the wakelock. This has reduced the probability that my tab is awake for any length of time and the total battery time is close to battery time without wakelock.

I'm having a strange problem with my Xperia Arc (4.0.4) that is proving very difficult to track down. When playing music or videos, after a random amount of time (maybe 20 or 30 seconds) the phone will crash and restart. This happens regardless of the app I use - Play Music, Poweramp, MX Player and YouTube. I have restored my phone using CWM to a much earlier backup, but eventually (within a few hours) the problem returns.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Unless anyone has any ideas, my only other recourse would seem to be a full wipe and return to stock firmware, which would be a major PITA and obviously wouldn't help if this is a hardware issue or some conflict with an update :crying:
Are you using a Custom Kernel ? Are you Undervolted ?

prboy is correct. Does your phone get enough power? Is your battery broken? Try flashing a stock firmware again. It may solve the problem.

I'm using a custom rom but not undervolted (stock kernel as locked bootloader).
Interesting about the battery, do you think it's worth buying another battery to see if that's the problem?

Before buying another battery, I would flash a different Rom. See if that corrects the issue. If that doesn't work, I would then go back to Factory stock. Just to narrow things down.
