I am having a terrible time getting my Tablet to boot to the card I created with AlbertWertz instructions.
I have tried the method of just plugging in the power cable = does not boot at all.
I have tried holding power and the "N" button = goes into stock Factory reset, I backed out at that point.
I have tried holding power and the "N" button with the usb pluged into my PC = does not boot at all.
I cannot tell if the problem is my boot method or the card - which I have recreated several times on different PCs.
Can someone please help with this problem?
Thanks
After restoring the image to the SD card you should open EASUS Partition Manager (free download) and make sure there's only one FAT32 partition that's 50mb and set as active.
Ended up fixing the boot on my NT 8GB this way. There was some useless partition that the program made on mine that used the rest of the space and was interfering with the boot.

I followed your suggestion - there was no problem with my partitions.
Just plugging in the power cable does not work for the NTs that need "help" in booting from an SD card -- you need to have the power cable and charger plugged in, or the power cable plugged into a PC USB port -- in other words, there has to be voltage on the power pins of the USB connector.

So I rooted and flashed XtrSense, and thought it would be great if I had a large micro SD card. So I picked up a 32gb card off ebay. Now my first problem is I'm not sure if its a real 32gb or just a 8gb that someone hacked to make it show as 32gb, but thats beside the point for right now.
I've always had a problem when I plug my phone into my computer over usb, where if I move the cable just one bit, it disconnects then reconnects quickly then says that the device would preform faster in a USB 2 slot (all of mine are USB 2).
Unfortunately this happened when I was transferring music and when I unplugged from the computer it said my SD card had errors. I used the prompt to format it, and my card worked fine for a while.
Well that same scenario happened again last week and for some reason I decided to format it using Amon recovery. Now I'm afraid my SD card is corrupt because when I start my phone it says the card is blank or has an unrecognized filesystem. Whenever I try the format option the phone gives, it does nothing. Any ideas?
I can't help you with the formatting issue (try formatting FAT32 through windows?), but I have had the USB intermittent connection problem. Easily solved by using a standard usb cable or charger (not the modified one provided by HTC) and using a small stylus to bend the shorter of the two long sides of the plug slightly outward.
Thanks for the tip on the cord! I'll try that as soon as I find my cord.
And I can't format the card in windows because windows doesn't recognize that anything has been plugged in
And just for clarification you mean the bottom on this picture?
__________

Can you format it through a card reader? Also, can't you format it through the settings | storage settings menu?
Yes, the bottom where you have the carats. there's usually a seam right in the middle that is easily bent. don't bend too hard or far. just a fraction of a centimeter will tighten up the connection

Going through settings and selecting format does nothing. I click the button and it still says its a blank or unsupported filesystem

if the phone reformatted it then it should be blank.
now mount it to the computer and put what you want on it
You did it wrong in amon_ra. Reformat in amon but this time set first two settings to zero and the remainder fat32. Hope this helps.

So I followed your response and wiped EXT on sd then partitioned it with both settings=0 but I still get the same error message: "sd blank or unsupported filesystem"
EDIT: So I tried to do it in command prompt and it said unrecognized disk label. So i tried to change it but whatever I type it says invalid token
Edit 2: And by command prompt I mean IO installed android adb and foolowed a guide online to try and format my SD card that way
You may try this step by step guide that helped me before: recover data from corrupted SD card
hope this helps.
I have been referring to the thread in the Developers section titled "How to root 1.4.1 (or any other version) using just an sdcard {easy}" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583 to create a bootable SD
This thread has pointed me to here;
For Windows instruction

I use Win32DiskImager to write cwm_sd_flashing_boot.img to the SD
I validated my SD card is set to 'Active' using MiniTool Partition Wizard.
I power off NT and remove the SD. Then hold n+Power utnil NT cycles back off. I put SD back in and use power for on. I am met with the message
"Factory Reset"
Press POWER to exit
Press HOME to continue (with reset)
I have tried several different SD cards, and run the make SD card many times. Everytime I get the Factory Reset screen. What am I missing and how do I get "over the hill"?
Thanks in advance.
The n+power button thing didn't work for me either. I got into CMW by powering on via plugging the nook into power.
Thanks. It looks like that did the trick.
I've tried two sd cards, and my nt wont boot any off any of them I used alberts method, i am using a 16gb and a 2gb and neither one work. Any ideas? I hold the power and n till the black n comes on and goes away correct? ive tried with the cable in and out plugged int and not and removed and put in the sd card while its off. is that all right? its version 1.4.2

What nook are you using 16GB or 8GB?
To boot from sdcard you just have to turn it on as normal not power+n, also check this guide and see if it works for you, there you can see you need to set he primary partition "active" that is what makes that partition bootable.

Maybe I'm not crazy after all.

I've been trying to get my NT to boot off of an SD for days.
It's
1. Hold power + N until N shows up on black screen AND THEN SHUTS OFF.
2. Release power + N
And try one of the following...
3a. Push power again to power the device up normally
or
3b. Plug in the USB Cable
However, both of these only give me the factory reset screen.
I have a weird one. I have rebuilt my Nook and followed the directions about how to make the SDcard active, the flag is correct and everything. It will load the loader if I power it on via a powered USB cable but when I try to power it off and back on without the cable, it goes directly into the original nook tablet OS. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

You're not the only one. This seems to be a common issue between newer (or was it older?) model Nooks.

On my previous build - Cyanomod 10 - Jelly Bean, I didn't have this issue. I just lost that memory card and tried it again and get the boot issue.

now it seems u know the steps already but im reposting in case u missed something.....i had the same problem. i found that some NT's only respond to this exact file that i will provide. use my files in this step and get back to me. REMEMBER TO READ ALL STEPS I PROVIDED IN CASE U FORGOT SOMETHING
step1- download (https://www.mediafire.com/folder/dd1cwv3uw0u18/NOOK TABLET) <<-----sdboot.zip and cwm.zip
step2-download minitool partition wizzy
step3-put sd card into computer
step4-using minitool, delete partition, create partition (make primary, and fat32), right click on sd card (usually F set flag to active and change partition ID type to 0x0c fat32lba and then click apply. (IN THAT ORDER)
step5-once parted copy from the sdboot attatchment provided to sd card, the recovery.img, MLO,flashing_boot, and u-boot. Also put the cwm emmc.zip provided as well into sdcard.
step6-put sd into nook, MAKE SURE NOOK OFF BEFORE U PUT IT IN OR U WILL HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, then plug nook into computer via usb cord, be patient and wait for nook to boot, once it finally boots, U MUST BE VERY QUICK AND PRESS "N" THE SECOND CYANOBOOT POPS UP, GO TO SDC RECOVERY NOT INTERNAL RECOVERY. that will load up sd cwm, once it is up it will now let u install the cwm i provided. install it.
step7-once this is done unplug it from comp, turn off, and repeat steps 3-6 (BUT THIS TIME ADD THE CYANOGENMOD 10.+ YOU WANT TO USE IN THE SD CARD AS WELL ALONG WITH THE CORRECT GAPPS) once sd cyanoboot pops up choose internal recovery instead of sdc recovery. install cm10+, gapps, and the internal cwm emmc.zip i gave u as well for good measure.
step8- once done take out sd card and reboot regularly with/without usb doesnt matter. u should be good...........it seems like alot but its actually rly fast when u got the hang of it.
Hi Guys,
I am at my wits end with my Nook tablet. No matter what I do, the NT refuses to boot until I take the micro sdcard out. The screen remains dark no matter how long I wait. However, if I leave it plugged in it eventually starts up by itself. My ROM is cm-11-20140705-NIGHTLY-acclaim but I have had this problem since 10.2.1. Here is what I have tried:
• I tried two different 32 GB cards (formatted with Minitool Partition Manager). Both sdcards are SanDisk Class 4 or better. I tried two different 32 GB cards (formatted with Minitool Partition Manager).
• It doesn't manner what is on the card. I have tried a card that only contained flash_recovery_6.0.3.7_sdcard.zip and the NT still doesn't boot. I was able to flash that and the SD flashed recovery seems to work, but I still can't get the NT to boot as long as that card is installed.
• I have tried plugging the NT into the charger while trying to boot and I can't boot with the Power button, but if I leave it in the charger for a while it boots by itself even though the card is plugged in.
• ES file manager can "see" everything on the card when the tablet is running and all apps seem to run fine.
While this is not such a big deal, I sure would like to be able to press the power key and have the NT boot up with the card installed.
Any ideas?

I am going to assume you have CM-11-20140705-NIGHTLY-acclaim installed on EMMC internal. I am currently running CM-11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8-acclaim on EMMC internal with CWM v6.0.4.8. The only thing I can say to try, and I have done a lot to my Nook, is formatting your SD card with -- SD Formatter 4.0 for SD/SDHC/SDXC. I wasn't sure to add the external link but if you Google that exactly you'll get right to it. I have had no issues with numerous cards from 8gb to 32gb. Once I did that, I also erased the SD card when I was fully booted into CM, under settings - storage. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comment.
I have found the reason why the NT won't boot. I overlooked the fact that I still had the MLO and uboot.bin files in the root of the sdcard from the bad old days. I deleted them and now the tablet boots up even when the card is installed. So that problem is solved.
Now I have to figure out why the sdcard normal, the sdcard recovery, and the sdcard alternate boot images are grayed out in the boot menu. Again, not a big deal because I can boot into emmc recovery where I have CWM Recovery 6.0.48 installed. I just don't like when things don't work as they should. If I can't figure out why, I'll start a new thread for this problem.
I believe those only show up when you are booting off a properly setup sdcard. I've never seen mine lit up on my nook color or nook tablet in all the years I've used them. So I think you are good to go.
