[Q] Android-x86 and WiFi calling - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently acquired an Asus EeePC (900 model) for practically nothing, and was frustrated by how slow WinXP ran on it (even after a fresh install). Being that it only has a 16GB SSD hard drive and I don't fully plan on dumping money into upgrading it, I figured it was ripe for some Android goodness. So, I've tried 3 different versions available at android-x86.org (2.2 R2, 3.2 RC2, 4.0 RC1). Each has their own pros and cons, but I've decided to stick with Froyo, as it seems to be the thoroughly most stable of the bunch.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the whole thing. Boot-up times are lightning quick, and most things seem to work fast enough, but there is the issue of APK compatibility. I understand that the architecture between x86 and ARM processors lends to a lot of apps simply not working. I was hoping to use Google Voice and Groove IP to be able to make phone calls using my home's WiFi network. I have no problem establishing a strong connection (both through WiFi and Ethernet), and Google Voice installs and syncs to my account with no problem, but I can not get Groove IP to install. My grasp of it is that until Groove's makers build the program to work on x86 architecture, I'm out of luck.
That's all well and good, but are there any other options I can look into? Search terms I come up with are vague at best and generally lead to dead ends. It isn't a deal-breaker for me either way, it just seems like a decent use for this little netbook.

Could you tell me how did you boot android from usb\/ cause i think that u did it using usb not sd card. Cause i have eeepc 1202nl and i cant boot android 4.0 rc1. Did you change sth in cd image files?

I pretty much just followed the install instructions HERE.
I used UNetbootin to make a bootable USB stick. Since I posted this thread, I have since switched to the 4.0.1 version for the EeePC. As long as you have a decent WiFi connections, it runs amazingly. The nice thing about going the UNetbootin method, is that you can boot from the USB and run it like a "LiveCD" version without altering anything on your hard drive, or go through the business of formatting and doing a clean install.
Basically, just download the version of Android x86 you need from the website, download UNetbootin, and when they are done, put the USB drive in the computer you downloaded the ISO and program to.
On UNetbootin, here's how you do it.
1. Click on the bubble about 3/4 of the way down where it says "Disk Image"
2. If it doesn't say so already, select "ISO" from the drop-down menu.
3. Select the Android ISO you want.
4. On the very bottom, make VERY SURE it says "USB Drive" for Type and that you select the correct Drive Letter for your USB drive.
5. Press OK, let it do its thing. When it is finished, Click the button to Exit, then properly unmount and remove your USB drive.
With your netbook turned off, plug in the USB stick. When the BIOS screen comes up, press the ESC key on the keyboard to bring up the boot menu. From there, choose a "Live" installation to test it out and run it from the USB stick, or choose to install it on a partition of the hard drive.
One last bit of advice, if you do elect to do a full installation, it isn't a bad idea to partition your hard drive. The maximum amount of memory Android-x86 will recognize is 2GB (1GB as "onboard memory" and 1GB as a dummy SD card). If you did a 3GB partition on your hard drive, it will be plenty of space for the full install of Android-x86 with the maximum amount of memory, and you'll still have the bulk of the hard drive left for a Windows, Linux, etc installation.

So today I have enough time to try run android on my asus and i cant do it. As i know u are the only one person with android x86 on asus I have one ask:
1. unebootin is booting and i can choose option to run/install android
2. than i got "detecting android-x86....", "found at /dev/sdb1"
3. than change resolution and "A N D R O I D [email protected]:/ # _"
4. after that i got sth like this (sry cause i did it in paint, but i cant make screenshot/good photo):

(it's black screen with 5-6 white dots in right up corner) - it is staying until i dont turn off netbook
I think its cause that my asus has Nvidia ION graphic and i cant run android on it
But i thought that maybe u have similar problem and can help me...
Or some1 other has any idea?

Try a different VoIP client?

I tried Froyo again and it is working! But i dont know why other dont work (

What its mean? Maybe any tutorial - if exist?
I'm noob in linux (i know sth about android but only about phone versions).
EDIT: is there any possibility to root it? I dont want recovery, but SU and RootExplorer is what i want

Glad you got it working. The installs seem to be a little weird. I had to wipe and install 3 times before I got a fully functional ICS install on my roommate's EeePC.
As for root, you should have it. My ICS install came bundled with Superuser. The only issue I'm having is adding apps to the accepted list.

After installing i got the same - Froyo is running perfectly, other not boot (even after 10 installs). I still have the same problem with black screen and dots. I ask on android-x86 site about this, maybe they know sth.

On Froyo i dont see any superuser.apk. Maybe its only on ICS (and GB or Honeycomb).

Hi its me again. I want to ask about one thing: have/had u problems with wifi connecting? Cause i cant connect to my router - i get remember but i cant connect.

As far as getting an internet connection...
On Froyo, I am able to establish a connection with both WiFi and a wired ethernet connection.
On ICS, I can get a good WiFi connection, but no wired ethernet connection.
However, I put ICS on my roommate's EeePC with the standard HDD instead of the SSD that mine has and he was unable to connect to the WiFi. I'm not 100% sure why that was the case. I think his is a 700-series EeePC while mine is a 900-series.

Hi
I'm new to running android on my netbook but not new to android, and I was wondering whether there's an easy way to change the resolution?
Idk what the default resolution it uses but my HP Mini runs on the standard 1024x600.. this was the only fault I could find with running android x86
I changed the ppi using root explorer but no matter what change I make, on rebooting, the launcher FC's and I pretty much can't do anything else, so I have to reinstall the whole thing
Does anyone know how to change the res? Right now, it's probably something like 800 x 480 or something

Is there no official x86 port of Android? I thought I read about it somewhere... but can't find anything, so I'm probably mistaken. On the other hand though Intel has already released Android devices which run on their x86 processors. Are they not bound by the GPL (of Linux) to release the sourcecode? I am quite confused...

Currently, there is not an official x86 port.
Will there ever be? Probably.
When? I have no idea.

[Guide][Updated 8/4] Graphically Customize/Manage Any ROM (Command Line Not Required)

Well, I'm not much of a guide person, but there's a great tool that's been out for a long time that has proven to be quite useful to me. THIS IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR FREEZA'S GUIDE. That's an excellent guide, and he deserves full credit for it. This guide is for those of you who want to trim/debloat after you flash. It also serves many other handy uses, which I shall explain in a few.
Also keep in mind, this will work on damn near ANY rooted Android phone. In fact, I used to use it QUITE a lot on my old Sprint Hero. This is essentially ADB without the need to know how to use the command line.
~~ This guide is a constant WIP ~~
What is Android Commander?
It's an all-in-one tool that was designed using adb. It provides the following:
[*]Complete root-based file manager
[*]Applications Manager
[*]Rebooting/Powerdown Abilities
[*]Storage Monitor
[*]All around awesome tool
It's completely free to use and is written by a talented XDA developer.
Requirements:
Windows XP or higher: As if I'm going to give you link to this
My little ADB Package: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/345001/Images/AC Guide/ADB.rar (For anyone wondering why I'm giving this seperate, it's to save you the trouble of having to download the entire android sdk and going through the convoluted method of using the SDK manager to grab adb)
Android Commander written by our very own XDA user PanPiotr: http://androidcommander.com/
1. Download my ADB package, and extract is somewhere. Inside is a folder called ADB, with two dlls and the adb executable. Remember where you put it.
2. Download and install Android Commander.
3. Right click and run Android Commander as administrator. It will ask you to set the ADB path near the bottom. Select the ADB folder that contains the 3 files above, which you downloaded already.
4. If it doesn't automatically start the app after selecting the folder, simply press exit, and run it again as administrator. This time, the app will start up
And this is what you see!

Now for starters, you'll notice a plethora of information. Try not to get overwhelemd. Android Commander is a ridiculously comprehensive utility. And the best part is that it's based entirely on ADB. Now, by default, you'll see your Windows files on the left pane, and the Android files on the right.
Let's begin with the debloating. Start by finding the "System" folder first.
From here, head on over to the "app" folder.
So this should be pretty self explanatory. Start selecting checkboxes for apps and bloatware that you don't want/need. Then, just click the "delete" button. It will delete them all in one shot.
I know this seems a bit anticlimactic, but that's more or less it for the debloating guide, because that's only one of the many uses AC has. Read on to the next few posts for a few scenarios/possibilities that you may encounter while using custom ROMs.
Basic Scenarios/Uses
This post covers basic scenarios and uses for Android Commander.
[If you've been directly linked to this post, please see the post above for information on installing and getting Android Commander up and running]
Remember, AC can start functioning as quickly as just moments after you see the white HTC screen. It doesn't have to be fully on for you to use AC and all its features. Android Commander can also be used from recovery as well.
Help! I used SetCPU, checked "Set On Boot", overclocked too high, and now my device is in a boot loop
Not a problem! I've done this too many damn times to count. The solution comes down to two options; one, be super fast when booting up and try and clock down SetCPU when you get in (very frustrating), or use AC! Remember, Android Commander can be used either in recovery or even during boot! So what we're going to do is start it up, and uninstall SetCPU. Let's open up Android Commander, and select "Applications Manager". It will ask you if you would like to update the list of applications, click yes.
From this point on, you can now see all of your applications. Simply click on one of the applications, and either uninstall it using the buttons above, choosing to delete its data or not.
By the time your device finishes rebooting, or when you boot out of recovery, you'll find SetCPU gone and your device no longer locking up and bootlooping! Easy, huh?
Did you know you can reboot the device from Android Commander?
Yes, you can . Simply click on the "Phone" menu up top:
Pick what you want to boot in. Also, yes, you see "screenshot" in there, but it currently doesn't work for the EVO 3D. It should for older devices though.
Did you know you can flash a recovery image through AC?
Indeed, you can.
More to come!
Advanced Uses - For Devs/Themers
This section is intended for both budding and veteran ROM cooks, modders, and themers.
Did you know that you can set file permissions with Android Commander? You can do what root explorer does, just fine. If you choose to use the 7.9.9.9 beta and up, you can easily set file permissions of any file, as shown below
MORE TO COME
First part of the guide is up
Thanks for this, I look forwards to seeing what more comes to this guide. Well done man.

Glad you find it useful. It's got a ton of potential for devs such as yourself, I'd highly recommend you experiment with it, there's stuff I still don't even know about yet.
It even has it's own pre-"su"'d command line built into it.

Thats a pretty slick app.
I did everything stated in the first post, and for some reason it doesn't say I am rooted. so I don't have the application manager. to be clear I don't need the SDK installed, just your file? I extracted it into a new directory and then set that as the path when I started up AC, it starts up, finds my phone, can explore it, reboot it, but it still says I am not rooted in the lower left corner of AC. I am not a noob when it comes to doing stuff with android, but am noobish with adb, never used it before, so i thought this would be a great tool for me to learn...if I can get it to work.

yep, followed everything in the first post...and yes, the phone is rooted. LOL. I am going to uninstall AC and try again, and see if that works...
problem - phones rooted - viper rom 1.2.1 stock kernal - downloaded the two files you have, installed your AC, and unzipped the ADB - start up, point it to that folder, then it has the little window that says DEVICE: NOT FOUND. have debug on, charge, i am the admin on the pc.
-----sorry------ now it runs only after i posted.... sometimes thats all it takes - now to test it out, looks very useful, and easy.... thank you
Thanks, Liquid. Way faster then using Root Explorer or manual adb. Wish I'd known about this ages ago.
Very usefull...but We realy need a UI manager to change icons ect....
Thanks Liquid - I used your LiquidSense ROMs over on the Hero side, and now that I've got my E3D, it's great to see you devving over here. I used Android Commander a lot on the Hero, so good to see it will still work for the E3D! Thanks for the Guide!

when i use the sign .zip file tool, i put a file on my desktop, then run the tool and cannot figure out where is put the new signed file at? Any help?
i changed the output folder to desktop, and nothing, it doesn't sign the file and ouput it....hmm...
Great guide! I use Android Commander for just about everything. Nice point on using it to get out of a boot loop. I discovered that when I had my Hero, and it saved me many times.

Sorry, but you completely missed the point. With Condi's AIO Tools you may spoof the device for system update to see it as an older firmware, it's also a part of a rescue-backdoor (but not the necessary part).

Doesn't UMS normally leads to new drives appearing on the PC's file explorer, like while inserting an USB key?
In the case of the tablet, one drive for the internal SD card, another for the external one if there's one inserted...
The "gadget" link shown by your screenshots is neither what we expect for a MTP link. It reminds me what I see when connecting a device in fastboot mode.
But well... We will know all the story in next AiO!

OK then, for example - show me how you are working with your external SD on MTP mode, of course without taking it out and putting in card reader?
It will be also helpful for Linux and Mac OS users.

Also 'gadget' reminds me a nice cartoon from my childhood - inspector gadget

Oh Nesquick - one more example Try to open some file directly from 'mtp drive' - some .doc etc, modify it, and try to save it. You will not.
Its been copied to tmp dir, no 'direct access'.
Thats why I hate MTP mode.
Current state of my USB Mass Storage mode is which needs one reboot after running. Im trying to find the solution for direct change.
If we would have kernel access, then it would work already..
But we dont. To be continued

Condi, I've no trouble with MTP... Or should I say, I've the same troubles as anybody else. Horrible on my Linux platforms, slow, uneasy to use and even worst whith my Nexus which has no SD card slot.
What I tried to say when looking at your screenshots was they aren't looking like something known : no drive on Windows explorer, no Sony tablet device, just the "gadget" link. Your video later shows an E:\CONDISD showing that you've win the race.
As I was saying, the "gadget" link appears when I connect something in fastboot mode to my PC (in the USB menu of my VirtualBox Windows XP VM to be precise) and I was thinking that you may have put your finger on some low level USB thing (showed by the tablet as an installer!) which could open some perspectives.
Of course, I know that you're the first here to see exploitable perspectives and one of the only people here able to do something with them but who knows...
By the way, I'm thinking of an adb based file explorer. No time to do it myself but many people have already done it. Just google "adb file explorer" and choose the one that best match your needs.

MK802 III Android based TV Stick. My experiences so far.......

Okay, so I picked up an 8 Gig MK802III from Amazon.com. Got a good deal on it. Could have gotten it cheaper if I had wanted to wait for a slow boat from China.
It is a pretty solid unit with the exception of the wifi speed issues. I am pretty sure it is hardware related. Some people have no problems and some do have speed issues. More on that later.
It is a versatile unit. Out of the box it is stable with 720P. The latest factory firmware is JB and it is rooted. That came on my unit. It is dated 11/29/2012 so I am sure there is a lot of stock out there floating around with the older firmware on it. The latest update also includes a remote control server and it also has the .apk for the client software to install on your phone or tablet.
Within a day of me getting it though, I found my tinkering taking over. I found a site that had some custom ROMs. www.freaktab.com
The ROMs that work on this unit are actually written for a UG802. Same unit different seller. They are identical units. The ROM is made by Finless and 2dark4u. They are very responsive in supporting their work.
When flashing the ROM you have several options with which to choose when it comes to a kernel. You can choose between 720P or 1080P, and processor speeds of 1272Hz or 1608Hz with the GPU at 466. Then there is the option of 1080P 1608Hz and GPU at 500. That is a total of 5 custom kernels. Although the MK802III is an Arm 9 capable of peaks of 1608Hz, IF YOU RUN A ROM AT 1608Hz KERNEL YOU MUST RUN A HEAT SINK OR YOU WILL BURN IT UP.
I chose 1080P at 1272Hz because I didn't want to mess with a heat sink at this time.
Back to WIFI. I may end up getting an RMA if an easy fix is not found soon and try another MK802. I like it that much. The mfg is working on a fix supposedly for the units that are having trouble. Again it is not everyone having a problem. I can connect fine. DL is extremely slow at around 500k and upload at 2Mbps. Not sure why upload will reach the limit set by my ISP while the download sucks. I have ruled out under-powered power supply, encryption bottlenecks (I tried my AP wide open), and case interference. As a temporary measure I picked up a USB LAN adapter at Best Buy for $19. It is marketed as and adapter for a Wii but it works fine. But i really need the wifi so i can make this unit portable.
With the wired LAN I am getting DL of anywhere from 25Mbps to 29Mbps down and 2Mbps up. That is what my cable connection is capable of. So no complaints there.
It streams fine over my LAN from NAS. Youtube and Netflix stream great as well. I don't have HBO Go so I haven't tested that. It has taken everything I have thrown at it so far video wise. And in full blown 1080P!!!
With the 1080P interface it was kind of unreadable on my 50" TV when sitting on the couch. So I set the font size to HUGE in settings and also adjusted the DPI to 240 using ROM Toolbox for making the icons larger. It is not recommended setting it higher than 240. It can cause some problems with the Play store and other apps. ROM Toolbox worked great for this. Prior to trying that, LCD Density monitor from the Play Store locked it up on reboot. This Forced me to flash recovery. When it comes to recovery, everything I am seeing is saying it is almost impossible to brick. To force a full flash it is a matter of shorting two pins on a chip for a few seconds and loading up recovery software and image on your laptop. CWM and TWRP have not been set up reliably yet that I have seen.
As mentioned earlier, it comes with remote software. I initially had problems with it on my RAZR but it worked great on my Kindle Fire. I have now found out that the initial problems on my phone were tied to the JB rotation problem that many are having on custom ROMs. It works fine on stock JB. The problem I was having was the app would close if the screen rotated. This would happen when setting it down or moving your arm the wrong way. Like I said it works great now on stock JB.
When I first set it up I had a wireless mouse hooked up to the USB. That worked flawlessly. I have had to remove it since it only has one USB port and I now have LAN connected to it. But I have one of these on the way which should solve that problem.

That's about it for now but I am sure I am missing a lot. I know I focused a lot on things that weren't perfect but that is how I tend to be. I love this unit and it plays video and browses the web great. And on a 50" screen!!! The apps and few games that I have tried do great.
The unit cannot be expected to be perfect as these TV sticks are very new and emerging. Expect to be somewhat of a beta tester.
EDIT: Stock out of the box AnTuTu was 8080. On the 1080P 1272Hz Rom it rose to 8878. I've seen even higher with the 720P ROM. Can't find the post but i am trying to say it was near 10,000

Send me a PM with what you are using to play them. I will send you my email address. You can send there provided they are not too large for email.
Thank you for this. I just picked up the MK802 III today and your write up helped a lot. Now to go find some good roms.

Here is the best one I have found so far.
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....-1080-and-overclock-AND-best-performance-ever!
I know it says it is for the UG802, but hardware is identical to MK802III and most people on the site with an MK802 III are running this rom.. I made the mods listed in my first post here as to resolution ROM, text size in settings, and DPI changes using ROM Toolbox for easy viewing from my couch.
I also modded the boot animation to reflect it being an MK802 III. That thread is here if you wish to use. http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....-us-MK802-III-Owners-on-Finless-v1-7-Download
When picking your kernel, do not go above the 1272 HZ unless you install a heat sink. I know the MK803 III is advertised as 1.6 GHZ, but that is peak speed. It will over heat at that if sustained. In the fastest CPU speed (1.6GHZ) there is also overclocking of the GPU option. Same thing. Don't use that without heat sink.
It is stable and works great.
Where can I find the ROM Toolbox for changing DPI?
The Play store. The free version should work for it.
The adjustment is under the build.prop editor. Lcd density

One other question, is the micro usb port only for power or can I push data through it? I don't have a USB-A to USB-A cable.

You don't need an A to A to flash.
I just flashed a UG802 rom on my MK802III last night, worked great. Device seems smoother, especially after locking CPU to minimum of 1000Mhz / Max 1272Mhz
1. plug MK802III into PC using A side of cable
2. plug micro-b side of cable into mk802III into power port of device
3 plug hdmi of mk802iii into TV
4 after device boots, goto settings -> USB, click connect to computer. ( at this time, computer should start finding the device as a removeable drive, and assign it 2 drive letters, I believe)
5. After computer finds device and loads driver, use RKFlashTool to flash ROM.
(if you get 'change to flash mode failed', or No Rock Android device found, or whatever it says, make sure you have no "unknown" or failed drivers in device manager)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit was used.
I had some probs getting the correct driver, but a bunch of googling found me the correct RK30usb driver.
If anybody needs the files I used, I can post them tonight, when I get home.
Which ROM did you use? I was thinking about UG802 2dark4u/Finless custom ROM version 1.7 since I heard it works fine with our device.
If you can post a link or actual files for the driver that would be awesome! Thank you.
Hi 85gallon, I've read that the UG802 1.7 rom breaks wifi as the drivers are different. Can you confirm? Did you have to do anything to get wifi back?

Assuming you were replying to me, yes, I used Finless 1.7, and it works much better than stock.. Still get a lag with my wireless pointer/keyboard (this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006W494ZA/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01 ) but only when doing intensive things (downloading large apps, watching a large mkv, etc)
I think it has to do with the wifi being on the same bus as the usb. I may try a USB network adaptor to see if it calms down.
Also, WiFi under Finless 1.7 works fine (as good if not better than stock)
After I "locked" the CPU to 1200 min / 1272 max with CPU control lite, it is a LOT smoother.
I will try to remember to post links to all the files I used when I get home tonight.
Everything else I have tried works great:
Bard's Tale (low res, due to storage space)
XBMC (still trying to get NFS working with my Windows Home Server)
MX Player
"Contemporary Adult Film collection, through browser/flash"
Thank you for the info. I will try it this weekend. Not sure why finless said wifi would break but its good to hear it doesn't

OK, in the process of uploading the files I used to drop-box right now. As the 3 files are a total of 600Meg, it is going to take at least 80 minutes with my sh*tty TWC/RR upload speed.
In the folder will be 3 files.
Rikomagic MK802III.rar -> Newest stock firmware (Dec 12-ish, I believe) Only if you need it for recovery or to revert to.
RKM MK802 III Recovery.zip -> this is where, after extracting, I ended up getting the right driver, see below.
ug802_2dark_finless_rom17.zip -> Finless ROM -> uploaded with his permission, per this post:
I expect this to be overwhelmed by downloads and CUT OFF by Google!....
So users that got it PLEASE post mirrors for others!

Hopefully, obviously, extract all of these to there own individual folders on your HDD.
All copyright/credit/etc., belongs to the original creators. All files freely available elsewhere, I just co-located them for ease of use.
1. plug USB into PC using A side of cable
2. plug hdmi of mk802iii into TV
3. plug micro-b side of cable into mk802III into power port of device
4 after device boots, goto settings -> USB, click connect to computer. ( at this time, computer should start finding the device as a removable drive, and assign it 2 drive letters, I believe) This is where you may need the drivers from file 2 above. Go to device manager, and if you have unknown or Rikomagic device with yellow exclamation, do a driver update, and point to the folder inside the Recovery.zip called Rockusbdriver. Windows should then find the driver, and rename the device to RK30usb (or something close to that)
5. After computer finds device and loads driver, use Rom Flash Tool (Finless) to flash ROM.
Caveat* I was unable to get Finless' tool to set the flash mode (it found the device, but would not reset it), so using the RKbatchTool inside the recovery zip, I was able to reset the device into bootloader mode. (the tool comes up in chinese at first, press bottom left button, select second option, for English) The flash tool inside the ROM found the device and I was able to flash. I did select the 720p config and the 2Gig parameter files for my device.
I hope the above helps somebody, I haven't typed that much in I don't know how long. Hopefully not a TL;DR
I will post when files finish uploading.
Files have finished uploading...see original book post for link......
Thank you for the writeup! For the life of me I cannot get the driver to install. I've tried multiple computers but everytime windows comes up saying it cannot find a driver for the device. Maybe I need to update the firmware first?

That didn't work. Not sure why I can't get drivers installed but this is frustrating!
Ok, had a hell of a time getting the drivers to work! Basically what I had to do was install SuperSU, Busybox (probably not needed) and a console program. Using the console program I typed:
su (which prompted me to accept)
reboot bootloader
This rebooted the device into bootloader mode. At this point I had no visuals on the TV but my computer saw two unknown devices. I was able to install the driver to one of the unknown devices successfully. At this point the rom flashing tool recognized the device and I was able to flash the rom.
Two questions about the finless rom 1.7
What are the two boot img options for? I flash the default 720 image even though I am using a 1080p kernel, does that matter?
I believe our devices have more ram than the UG802, are we loosing space by running this rom?

If it is the thread I am thinking about, and I can't find it for the life of me, finless was saying the ROM for the UG808 would break wifi because it used a different chipset.

Yes, su then reboot bootloader is much easier to get into flash mode.
For those on the stock 11/29/2012 ROM it is already rooted so you can use a terminal program. Just download a terminal program from the Play store.
While the MK802 III is hooked to your PC, open the terminal program you downloaded from the play store and type "su" without the quotes, at the next command prompt type "reboot bootloader" (without quotes) and it will reboot into flash mode, (TV will be black-nothing on screen) Windows will then find unrecognized device. The drivers are included with the finless v1.7 rom in the drivers folder. Both x86 and x64 drivers are there. Just navigate to the appropriate folder then sub-folder of which OS is on your computer.

Per the readme file:
If you select a 720 boot.img and a 1080 kernel, your boot screen will not be right. It wont hurt you and the ROM will work but for a good looking boot, you need to select a boot.img that goes with the kernel resolution you select.
There are 2 boot.img's boot720.img and boot1080.img. Of course select the right resolution boot for the kernel you choose!
By DEFAULT, the flash tool is set for 720 boot.
Kernels:
2dark4u has provided 5 extra kernels. So there are 6 in the kit. This is what they are:
720 resolution kernels that should work on any ug802:
-kernel.img = Stock latest JellyBean kernel at 720. This is default choice in the flash tool!
-kernel_720_CPU1272_GPU466_RAM1120.img = Overclocked [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] - N0 heatsink required!
-kernel_720_CPU1608_GPU466_RAM1120.img = Overclocked [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] - WARNING!!! heatsink required!!!!!
1080 resolution kernels that should work on any ug802:
kernel_1080_CPU1272_GPU466_RAM1120.img = Overclocked [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] - N0 heatsink required!
kernel_1080_CPU1608_GPU466_RAM1120.img = Overclocked [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] - WARNING!!! heatsink required!!!!!
Hope that helps your decision making......

Does anyone know how to pull (not freeze) the stock camera/gallery on the Warp Sequent and replace it with a VERY similar one (JB+ by moblynx virtually same camera, just more options, like timer & editing), plus have it connect with Google Sync & account? Yes, I am Rooted and ROM'd with Awesome Android. Titanium backup & Root explorer doesn't show the camera app, only the gallery. So I'm lost and worried about crashing an awesome ROM without proper guidance. Thanks in advance for any possible help

You know I got ya back, and I will help anyway i can, but , i only used Awesome android for like 5 minutes, and didn't like the simplicity of it.
You have a good start with your process. You have root explorer, now you can navigate through your rom. if y ou want to delete the normal app by
changing the permission in root explorer to rw. basically , being able to write over/delete etc.but i would suggest saving them to your sdcard. then i would guess after you get rid of the old stuff you just add the files you want on your sd card and copy/paste them where the old ones were. This doesn't mean they will actually work on a rom that they are not made for. I don't really understand the part about you wasting a rom. I know you made backups. I dont see it bricking your phone. but with any kind of mods you have to be careful. Also, it probably wouldn't hurt to talk to shinru about his rom. He made it and would be the first person i would speak to. I wanted to make 10.1, so i spoke to the creator lol , and after butting heads for a while, now PG helps me out when i get in a bind. If I wouldn't have exposed EarlyMon for his duechebag ways , i'd still be droppin my opinions on that forum lol.. Hows your theme gig rollin big dog...?
You should rename the thread to "The beginning of Bcrichster's Themes and Mods" the title of a thread will bring in more people..
Also [tags] ..And a bad a$$ OPening statement for the first post, to tell everyone what you are about...Unless you just want it to be a question, but not many people will come to answer it. I been looking at other peoples question threads, most people just say "google it" lol
Thanx, bro! been trying to look into getting my hardrive a complete wipe and memory upgrade first cuz mine's pretty lacking in many areas and after I did an initial wipe/recovery - found all kinda spyware embedded in recovery files (NOT GOOD!). That's another topic for another thread elsewhere, lol. Long story short: PC got hacked from both mid Texas & tokelau island... So first things first. Wipe corruption & install Security! Lmao.. Fun don't wanna mod/theme something with corruption - everyone will hate that AND me for putting it out there. Next - WHICH FILE & WHERE (folder) do I find the camera? Do I just work w/the gallery? I've been modding this AA ROM to my own personal desires n stuff but I'm lost on this one? I DID ask Shinru but I'm waiting on his reply and he gets to be a busy dev. When I Do get my PC right, my thread's gonna be Titled: BCRichster's Monster T.I.P's (Themes In Progress) Theme titles will be based on sk8 Tricks & Guitars.. In fact, I think I'll reserve the title immediately
But for now, THIS thread is just gonna be a "help me!" Question, lmao

But i got ya back if you want to set up a kitchen, i can research the process.
Anyway ,just put KILLDISK on a usb and go to Bios and change boot order to USB
then as you restart it is going to start up..
Write zeros to everything..
Do you have a clean recovery?, i know you said your recovery was tainted..
Get the recovery disks , or if you don't mind linux is FREE..
I love me some Mint 14.. I previously said 15/ but it has a bug for wifi on my pc
If you run into issues, I'm almost always on here, while i'm at work.

OK, I'll consider Linux w/ proper info like: 1- what program will I need for internet connection - I USB tether my sequent for that. 2- Is it user friendly? As in, can I mouse click icons or do I need to command prompt everything (I'd need a guide for that)? 3- What kind of antivirus/anti malware program should I look into (or would it even need it?) I know that if I use Linux I'll be closer to android custom themes / mods. But need the right info for such a big transition. Maybe even dual boot...

Good news cousin, I am a Windows lover as well, so Mint 14 , theres hardly even a transition shock. I use wifi tether beta apk from Google play for internet. (and Kali linux(just kidding) I'm a White Hat !)
It's very User Friendly, I use Terminal everyday, but not for normal everyday activities.
Instructions for Dual-boot are part of step 1 on my tutorial if needed. and I don't use any Anti-virus program on linux. You can, but in linux there are very few viruses.
As far as Bios, it would be better to google " change boot order in Bios" before you muck about and B.S.O.D ur PC. You access it from different buttons for different PC's... mine is f8 at the top of the keyboard as you turn on your PC.. a prehistoric looking blue screen will pop up.

WiFi tether beta and my WiFi tether for root users doesn't exist on the playstore anymore. I use a USB tether (PDAnet.exe) for my PC. Will that work?

".exe" there is your problem. that file is a windows file, you may be able to get "wine" on linux to run it. but i don't know.. When you get your PC squared away, i will upload a apk for you, when it was on play store it was free, so no issues.
OK. My Linux program is on my only flash drive & It's giving me the option to completely overwrite windows with Linux mint 14, but it's not reading my phone (as a USB, media, ANYTHING!)..(maybe I should pull my mem card out of phone..?) without that, I have no way of transferring files of any sort to upload/download/install... Much less internet connection via USB from phone since I have an old PC tower & no WiFi dongle. If u could post or pm me everything I would need to make it work, I would be ecstatic!
I know less about how to go about Linux than I do anything else, but if u can help me get those things setup I can learn the rest. Installing Linux should completely wipe my Drive too.

You may have to do it manually or do it alongside windows or use the .exe file . Is your windows still working?

[Q] Copy Notes/memos to windows pc and show hidden android files/folders in windows 7

Hey Xda developers,
I'm kinda frustrated at the moment so I'm sorry if I sound that way. I recently bought a Sony Xperia Z Ultra (for 2 months now). And yesterday I came to the conclusion that I had cracks in my screen. Not long after that I realised that my touchscreen was dead too. How did this all happen? I have no clue as to why but probably because I always put it in my pocket all day. It probably couldn't handle the forces while bending my leg when sitting while the thing is pretty big. (so my advice is don't put it in your pocket).
After that I thaught I'm so happy that I have an extra insurance on my phone. But my happiness was soon gone when I called the insurance company wich told me there was no record stating I had an insurance.
A lot of phonecalls later they said everything is gonna be allright and they will fix it (i told them I had evidence in my mail). So I decided to copy all my data from my broken Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
The Touchscreen is defective but it still powers on and android seems to be running fine. I had no problem with phonerecordings photos screenshots movies etc. Then I came to my notes/memos which took my whole day and I still haven't figured it out.
Here is the problem:
I can acces the internal memory from my phone but a lot of files and folders are not displayed including the databases which hold the memos at least thats what I think.
I have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra and c6833 model (European version I believe) it has stock firmware on it, its rooted and has SU on it. The Usb debugging mode is on. I'm using windows 7 ultimate and the normal (windows) file explorer (I don't think this is the problem). Show hidden files folders and drives is activated all the boxes that begin with hide are unchecked. When googling I stumbled on a lot of answers with folder options in windows. This is not the problem, the problem is that windows sees the internal memory as a device not as a driveletter. Therefore Windows hides these system files and folder options doesn't effect that (atleast thats how I understand it).
Since my device is rooted I know there most be a solution. An android expert answered that if your phone is rooted you can acces it without the touchscreen. Sadly he didn't post the solution for that. Here is the thread:
http://www.justanswer.com/android-devices/7a5nt-folders-starting-dot-s2-using.html
I've read about ADB but i'm not sure how this might help me I found some information about how to use ADB for flashing a new rom but ofcourse thats not what I want.
http://androidteen.com/setup-adb-and-fastboot-driver-with-android-sdk/
There are some topics right here on xda developers showing me the directory on where to find the memo database but I can't even see those folders:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24036872
(someone also suggested using Kies but I don't have a Samsung obviously)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1534157
I also tried using PC Companion from Sony. Sadly I saw no option to copy memo's with the backup utility so I called Sony. They told me its not possible to copy notes after the spokeswomen asked a few colleagues there was also no other way of syncing notes with the pc she said. (remember that I can't install any apps or do anything on the phone since the touchscreen doesn't work not even marginally)
So I kinda ran out of options so the only thing left for me to do was to create a topic right here. Any detailed information on this matter would help tremendously (at least I hope). I really want to have those notes So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Man, you are very lucky that you had USB debugging enabled! Adb is indeed the way to go, if you know the directory you want then you need the PULL command:
http://eagle.phys.utk.edu/guidry/android/pushpull.html
If you're unsure of which directory or file it is, it's possible the below will work to copy off all apps and data although I'm not sure how it'll treat system apps:
http://www.howtogeek.com/125375/ho...kup-without-rooting-or-unlocking-your-device/
Or, a more complex but entirely more reliable process below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818321
Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for posting your reply. I've been very busy these days but I finally got to it.
I was able to get in to the Z ultra using the ADB method but sadly I had no succes.
I could see more then I could using windows explorer but the data folder was empty. I don't understand what went wrong because I'm sure my device is rooted (titanium backup worked very well and I had SU installed). Sadly I didn't make any recent backups with Titanium backup. I see more people that can't see there data folder on there device while its rooted so I guess I'm not the only one.
For other people this ADB method would work very well I guess.
Maybe its the way I rooted my device I don't know. (I used a Chinese programm then let Su take over root control)
Anyway thanks for the help. My device is beeing picked up tomorrow for repair so I'll just factory reset it.

Why make this so complicated with ADB? Use a file manager on your device like root explorer. Find the files, copy them to your SDcard partition in a new folder. Connect to your pc and copy/paste the files to your computer.
Here's my data folder. Copying files from here everyday from an app

Bit late. But like superuser said find the files and copy them to your sd card. If you touchscreen doesn't work then you will need an otg cable and a mouse and control phone that way when touchscreen has gone.
