I rooted my daughters Galaxy Ace and installed Droidwall ...
My problem is that the kernel of the stock ROM does not have any support for the firewall chain, so Droidwall can't be enabled ...
It asks for a netfilter supported kernel, which is not in the stock kernel ...
Can I install a custom KERNEL with the stock ROM or do I have to install a custom ROM also?
Regards,
Phoenix007
Try Avast antivirus. It has a firewall too, and it does not any custom kernel if I am not wrong.

I am a NOOB on real Android supported phones ...
I've got a HTC HD2 for myself and flashing a customrom was easy.
I don't want to use a custom ROM for my daughters phone.
What is a "cf-root kernel" and where can I find that ?
As far as I now the latest stock ROM is installed on my daughters Ace ...
Also the firewall inside Avast tells me that iptables is missing from the kernel, so it's not usable either ...

Phoenix

You didn't say it was the "I" model!
Too many noobs make this mistake.
Unfortunately many devs (including me) don't support GT-S5830. You could contact ketut and ask him if he will do a version for it.
Why do you need a firewall. Most routers have a firewall anyway. I have a separate physical firewall

Well, in Droidwall I can chose which app communicates over which connection, Wifi or 3G or both or None ...
I want to limit the costs of my daughters phone bill, that's why ...
I know that NAT is pretty secure on a hacking level ... and I use a seperate firewall also ...
What I don't understand is why the developers at Samsung decided to NOT add iptables to the kernel of the GT-S5830I ...
Maybe to generate extra revenue for the mobile operator ?

You don't get iptables on any stock Samsung from, unless you flash a custom kernel, such as CF-Root. If ketut is still around, I'll ask him to port the kernel to SGA variants.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy Ace
Right, as I said a few posts back, the I edition isn't technically an Ace, however, it is a Galaxy Y in Galaxy Ace body. A quick browse in the Y forums found a kernel that supports lots of features. The hardware used in the Y is virtually identical to the I edition, so in theory it should work.
Have a go. I'm not responsible if something goes wrong, but it's worth a shot.
If it doesn't work, let me know.

Hello world
Here is my first (THE first?) Galaxy S II kernel built from sources, to be accurate from Korean SHW-M250S sources which is the reference name of the Galaxy S II device sold here, using XWKDD GT-I9100 initramfs.
Sources are not modified.
Kernel config: /proc/config.gz
1/ First attempt:
SHW-M250S_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio.tar
2/ Insecure Kernel, can be used to root your device:
SHW-M250S_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-1.tar
3/ Now built from GT-I9100 sources, still allows easy rooting!
GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio.tar
4/ Added CIFS support as module.
GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-1.tar
4/ Automatic rooting! All you need to do is boot, and its magically rooted − su and Superuser.apk installed in /system
GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-2.tar
5/ init.d support! will run anything present in /system/etc/init.d/
GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-3.tar
You'll find Kernel sources on github, explanations in this dedicated thread
Initramfs used is this one: https://github.com/project-voodoo/galaxysii-initramfs-modified
You got me all excited and all you had to say was "Incomming". Dissapointed now
This is the start of something beautiful, nice one SC

Great supercurio, good luck!
So, nobody has the guts to try it ?

WHOhooo I wouldn't had bet on it
Ok so I'll make a "root" kernel from it.
You want to to try and participate? Come on IRC #project-voodoo
Alright!
Just added a new insecure kernel. Adb connection should be run as root by default, starting from that you can install superuser manually.
I also copied the kernel modules in the initramfs, which may solve the previous Wifi non loading problem.
Check the first post.
Please tell me if it worksforyou remember, I don't have the device to test it and it's not the exact source it should be.

Sir, you can change wallpaper by long tapping on home sceen, a menu will pop up , select wallpapers or gallery based on where your desired wallpaper is. I didn't get the colour stuff? If you mean that you want to change the ROM's colour then you cannot do that through a wallpaer, you need to download a theme which has the desired colors and apply the theme via Theme Manager
And yes, you can also change the wallpaper via settings menu

Hi,
I tried almost all ROMs in the development pages but I like the best ICS final with SlainModFast v2.5 with the new kernel(blackhawk - ketut). I had no reboots, no freezes no problems. I also run the JuiceDefender on balanced and improves the battery life. And I like the ADW launcher that is included in the ROM.(tried GO, Launcher Pro and some others).
I am a big fan of Grif's CM7 and Ketut's oc kernel... those guys deserves monies!

I have a ATT Samsung GII and currently have it rooted fine. Sadly, every one is changing all the roms to ICS and I am currently forced to use a specific application for billing my miles to work that does not run at all on ICS.
I would try to talk to the developers of that app to see if they could just recompile it for ICS but now that they have the app booming on the iPhone they have pretty much dropped any support for Android.
Right now I am downloading the Android SDK so that I might be able to run this app in the SDK on my laptop.
My questions:
1. Is the Android SDK the only way I can run an Android emulator to run this app?
2. Is there a good place on XDA (or some where else) where I could list out the features I need in a specific application and other people could suggest apps that match the requirements? There are many pay for apps that sound like they would work for me but 15 minutes is not long enough to test the apps out before I cannot get a refund.

Oh, thanks you! This helped a lot!
That pretty much this. Will a custom rom make my phone faster/smoothe.
I've always loved performance but I'm not sure if i should take the risk .
What do you guys think? Tell me your experiences.
some tricks can make your phone speeder. For example cpu governor, that can be used when you rooted your phone. Other things like init.d scripts that are enabled with kernels also speed up some performances (internet, smoothness).
You also have chainfire 3d that allows you to run games you cam't run before.
So in my opinion, as we don't have cyanogenmod actually, a custom rom will not boost you're performance a lot. But rooting, changing kernel and other stuff like that can help to have a speeder phone (but the more interesting thing of a custom rom is the theme)
That's all for me
Hit thanks !

Yes, all scripts are based in a file called init.d launched at each start of your phone, but this file is not activated basically so you need to get a new kernel. but you also have some apk (search on xda) that enable init.d with stock kernel if you don't want to change kernel

Yes changement or not like having a s3, but these tweaks boost a little bit your phone, you should have try to use antutu benchmark before and after to have an idea of the impact, i didn't tell you...

Hello,
I received from my father this old smartphone and I would like to install a ROM for daily use that can be speedy and stable. I only need to use the mobile for whatsapp, text and calls. NO Facebook or other stuff.
The mobile already has root access and CWM installed.
Do you have something to advice to me ?
Thanks in advance.
