Nokia Lumia 800 screen issues - Nokia Lumia 800

Hi guys,
I have some issues with the Nokia Lumia 800.
From time to time (sometimes really often), the display goes crazy, like moves by himself, without me touching it, for example if I am in the Y!Mail app, he start refreshing & stuff... like someone touches it - or even stops responding I must hit the lock/unlock button to work again, anyone have or had the same issues?
I can't send the Phone back because it was bought from TIM Italy, and now I am living in Romania, also I have the 11500 firmware, since the TIM didn't approved yet the update.
Does anyone knows if any of these issues (automatic touches, or the no-respoding screen until I lock/unlock it) has been fixed in 12070?
I'm pretty dissapointed with this phone because I paid 500€ for something with so many issues...

I have a Nokia Lumia 800 myself, and have never faced the issue. Yes, sometimes the app behaves weirdly but mostly it turns out to be the app issue. Never the screen or the OS.

Lumia 800 touchscreen and -buttons go dead - screen off/screen on resets

Hardware issue(s): Three days into my new Lumia 800 I've experienced about a dozen total device freezes. The phone becomes unresponsive and the home, back and searchbuttons are dead too.
The problem is resolved when I use the screen off/on button.
I also have another problem, described in this thread. There seems to be a (large) part not secured inside the device. When shaking the device there's a distinct click/clack sound and you can feel the part moving around in the device.
I'm not sure if both issues are related, so I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced similar issues with the screen and touchbuttons going dead.
Same problem om Lumia 800
Hi, I have exactly same problem, with my new Nokia, it started behaving like that first time I started the phone. It is either HW or Windows Phone OS. I have retured it to nokia immediately, they have said there is no problem with phone?!?, they will hopefully install new firewire or OS or whatever and hopefully it will work when i get it. I suggest you that you return the phone that is not acceptable behaviour it should just work without any hacks.
Otherwise buy an Iphone or other more stabile phone, it seams that Win Phone is at least two years behind other phone OS....

Everybody can get a phone made on a Monday. Regardless of what OS it uses. Top me WP is more stable than both iOS and most definitely Android.
Maybe it will be fixed with new firmware. Don't know. But I would return it to where you bought it right away and walk away with a new one.
Here's the changelog for the newest 12070 firmware:
The new Lumia 800 update brings the following enhancements:
• Enhanced battery standby and talk time performance
• Battery capacity icon instead of question mark on top right of screen
• Improved bass in audio performance
• Soft-key illumination at all brightness levels
• Fixes for device performance issues including self-reboots, freezes and call-ending
But I would return it anyway and get a new one.
Hi
I live in Sweden too, and the phone is ordered online. If you open the phone from originally package you do not have right to return it(according to sucky Vendor), but according to the consumers right office I have the right to return the Phone get new or replacement. I have been in conflict with this vendor for 8 weeks now, as I do not get any respond from them about the phone.
Problem is with Lumia 800 from the start it should work directly. I could use that money I bought the phone and invested in something else for this 8 weeks.
I have had several android phones and hadn't have problem. My friend have IPhone, no problems there. That is my experience.
When I google for Nokia Lumia I see a lot of people complaining, and a lot of problems, and about stability I do not agree as Win Phone has not so many features as Android it should be more stable and it is not according to the all forums I visited.
But still that is my opinion and my experience.
We all have different experiences.
I come from Android and it always was a force close fest for me no matter what phone I had. Not very stable. iPhone I have never owned but according to surveys iPhone apps force close even more than Android app. And other serveys tells that WP owners are among the happiest of phone users. But let's forget about this for a while.
What vendor did you purchase from? I would consider making a post to www.fairshopping.se and let the company answer. Usually they want to answer inqueries there as it may make them look bad otherwise. Always worth a shot I have seen many people getting positive results after posting on that site.

Display Problem

Hey guys,
I've received a Lumia 800 a few days ago and noticed something odd about the display. Sometimes the whole content of the display is moved to the left, and the part that is now out of view is then located on the right side of the screen. I could not reproduce this problem. Since the phone is working perfectly great I don't really want to send it in for a problem that might be caused by software issues... Should I be worried about this problem?
To make it more clear, here is a quick mockup of this error:
Regards Chris
I've noticed this twice so far, it happens as fast as a blink, when the whole interface shifts then moves back to normal almost instantly. I'd expect it to be fixed in a software update.
Thanks for your answer. I was really surprised when this first happened. But since I'm not the only one with this problem I'll wait for an software update.
Have seen that too. I think this can be fixed with a FW update. How can we report that problem to Nokia?

I have also noticed the same thing, although it stays like that for less than a second. Hopefully a software update will fix it.
I won't take my phone to a service point anytime soon, since this is a very rare occuring problem. But I think I'm on the newest firmare/software:
OS-Version: 7.10.7740.16
Firmware-Rev.: 1600.2479.7740.11451
Hardware-Rev.: 112.1402.2.3
Bootloader: 7.35.0.0
Chip-SOC-Version: 0.74.2.1
Same problem here, event on the start logo NOKIA.
I'm experiencing the same problem.
Most viewable in the start nokia splash screen.
I dunno if I'm on the last firmware, but I'm branded Vodafone.
I'm having exactly the same thing... it's almost like gpu driver isn't aligning correct or something like that...
I've noticed this as well. I'm on the latest FW update (11451). As you other guys have said it's not that annoying and it goes away in less than a second so I will not take care of the problem unless it's solved with a future FW update.
ok, I have now noticed that this seems to become worse... Sometimes my display stays this way for several seconds... I just contacted the Nokia support team to check if I can get my device replaced, just to be safe...
And what did they say ?
Nothing yet. That's because today is an official holiday here in germany, and i doubt that the support team will work on weekends. So I think we'll have to wait untill monday for an answer...
I have the same problem with my unbranded lumia 800, any solution?!

I don't have the exact same problem, but I had some issues when entering text fast in other applications. It won't show up for some seconds. Seems like a OS Bug.

It clearly is NOT an OS bug, I have never encountered it on any of my other WP's. It's again Nokia who is to blame for inefficient firmware...
I've experienced this exact issue with my Nokia Lumia 800 - Telstra... Also the phone lags when playing back phone recorded video from time to time. My revious Mozart exhibited none of this behaviour...
Anyone here reported this to Nokia? I am planning to do so today. This usually happens after I have played a song or podcast.

I too have this sms lag on my lumia 800. i had this issue on both formwares : 12070 and 12072. I really fed up the no of bugs in this phone.
please guys post the following bug as well. following bug is present in 5 of my frnd's lumia 800 as well. XDA please make sure this new issue reaches NOKIA. So that they can do something about.
Even i have got this latest 12072 update but still dr is one more bug guess u have not noticed it. Can u please check and clarify with the following bug description.
1." Connect you nokia handsfree or any headphones to your lumia 800 and make a call and notice that u cannot adjust the volume. Volume remains high (max) always even if you reduce the volume to zero."
2."Connect your hands free or any head set to your lumia 800 play music and reduce the volume to 15 or less now make a call again you cannot adjust the volume of the call. now cut the call and now your music starts playing in max volume which you will not be able to reduce. Until you remove your hands free or headset and reinsert it.
Hmmm, i have had three different lumia phones pass through my hands for at least a week each (used them), two of them (both on hw revision 2.3 and black, german unlocked model) never had this issue, while one (hw revision 2.4 in blue again german unlocked model) had this issue, all three of them were running 12070. could the hw revision be a culprit?
My phone is not 2.4 and I notice the lag sometimes.
Always thought it was background processes causing it.

ah ok, i just had to ask. Right now i cant be sure i didnt or did have any background processes open when this happened on the one phone it happened, but i believe i mostly had the stuff closed (ie no multitastking in the background).

Got my 920, bricked it in 60 mins :(

I picked mine up from an EE store yesterday and had a few issues when setting it up. The app store kept throwing up errors everytime I selected an app from a list, and my work exchange email just wouldn't work so I attempted a reset (Settings > About > Reset).
Bad move, now all I have is a Nokia logo on my screen. I've tried the 2 button and 3 button resets but have not seen anything on screen apart from the Nokia logo and the low battery screen.
That'll make it 3 x 900s and 1 x 920 I've returned this year. Probably time for me to give up on Nokia and just stick with Samsung.
Have you tried starting it up without the SIM in? May seem silly but my first EE SIM was faulty and it made my phone get stuck in a bootloop. One new SIM card later and it was perfectly fine again!
Only on XDA.

that's not normal my friend, for 900 or 920 devices, or perhaps you are unfortunately one of the most unlucky people alive. But statistically that suggest that you would have more luck staying with Nokia, the chances of there being 5 dud devices (assuming no user intervention helped them on their broken way) is astronomically high, changing to another brand resets that statistical analysis to zero, ergo if you are just an unlucky person you will more likely have problems with Samsung
Well all 3 of my 900's came from the same store and were white. I've always suspected that they were all from the same delivery and production batch so put that one down to bad luck. My L920 I think may well have been user error from when I did a hard reset, thinking that I couldn't connect to the app store because my phone needed a reset rather than because the store was down!
However, there are number of people posting in the WPCentral forum who have also killed their phone on a hard reset, so I tested my 2nd handset in the store before leaving and it survived a hard reset so I was happy.
I've now got a replacement and it's all good (apart from the horrid rattle when the vibration goes off for an alert).
My sister exchanged her L920 too as it was suffering from freezing everyday. Hopefully her 2nd handset won't be as troublesome.
I think wp8 is not stable because this is same problem in every other wp8 phone. Microsoft should do something quick before it's too late.

Apparently the rebooting bug is already under investigation .. switching bands from 4G to 3G and/or using different APN settings seems to work for some.

I know this may not be the right forum but I'll say this anyway. This here is a classic example of not understanding probabilities. Intuitively, this argument seems right - since you've already had 4 devices which had problems, the probability of having a 5th device with problem is very less.
However, in reality, the probability of getting a device with problems is not related to the past. So whichever device you choose, your probability of getting a dud device is same regardless of how many problems you've had in the past.
I know this doesn't help but I thought I'll take this opportunity to clear this up
My 2nd handset is now 6 days old and so far I've encountered the following
1) The loud vibrate rattle. I had this on my Lumia 900s so I'm really unimpressed Nokia haven't resolved this issue yet
2) Slightly crackly sound from the loudspeaker (not the earpiece) - this is a minor issue for me really
3) 1 random reset/lock up.
Honestly, it's issue #1 that actually bugs me as #2 is minor and #3 will get fixed in a software update at some point. 1 reboot in a week is fine.
SO my dilemma is whether I take the phone back again this weekend to exchange for one which doesn't rattle :S
I believe they all rattle because of the springs in the camera. You could get the 8x, it's arguably a better looking device with no rattles . However, it'll mean sacrificing Nokia software and that camera. 8x camera is very very good, but the 920 has the best cam of any phone (barring 808).

Hello all this is my first post as I am a new nokia 920 yellow owner. I wanted to comment to show there is currently a solution to bricked devices due to factory reset bug. I have not tested it but, it should be avaliable to everyone considering the people that buy online and don't have access to quickly exchange a device. I hope this helps out some of you.

Best camera, except for some reason Nokia's production camera firmware makes some things far too bright and edges in all conditions are not very sharp.

with regard to brightness, not even a £1000 DSLR can always get it right, experiment with white balance, artificial light can be a real problem to adjust for so quite often you need to set that manually, not saying that's your problem, but id strongly suggest you try changing those settings

The great Lumia 920 conspiracy.......

Am I the only person that's noticed the cover up (or at best complete overlooking) of the 920 MANY issues?
Let me say, I own(d) a 920 and I loved it so much I looked past all its flaws, and I dealt with a lot. Previous owner factory reset it right in front of me and we know what that means. I spent the next 12 ****ing hours unbricking the thing just so I could use it! Now, after owning the 920 a freakin week, it stops reading my SIM card suddenly so now I'm back with android.
I just notice that no tech site has EVER run any articles about the litany of major issues with this phone. Hell even in the forums nobody seems to have put it together! Am I the only one who sees it??
Bricking on factory reset
Battery life issues
Black screen on calls
Hardware buttons randomly not working, requires soft reset
Phone suddenly stops reading SIM cards
I'm sure I'm missing some but those are the one I dealt with. Am I alone?

i know about black screen and factory reset bug but i read for the 1st time that there should be major problems with the SIM card or the hardware buttons.

My son has had the 920 since it came out...Other than *****ing about the lack of the most popular apps (instagram, temple run, Jetpack Joyride...etc) the phone has been nothing but flawless. He will never give it up because he is an xbox junkie lol
i've had it for almost 2 months now..
only issue i've had is the crashing (normally every couple of days), since updating seems ok so far...I've flashed a few 'roms' to it, EE branded and normal
I thought the screen going blank in calls was supposed to happen? Like to save power? last couple of phones i've had turn the screen off when you put it to your head?
I'll be honest, i'm a little disapointed in windows phone 8, after coming from 7 with no crashes for a year (apart from once when i started messing with the registry) I found windows phone 8 quite shocking, coming from android/windows mobile i'd say its not to bad, but in someways it seems a downgrade. But so far no crashes with the latest update, and i'm hoping it stays that way, but honestly, I have a feeling your issues are isolated.
Also had the chance to use the new nexus 4 the other day, if theres a cover up going on, i'd say its those who say android is smooth and responsive....
I've been using my 920 for a month and haven't encountered any of your problems. The only thing I don't like about my 920 is that there is no app so far to automatically switch phone profile according to time and location.
I'm shocked 2 of you have had no problems. Search Google for any of the problems I listed and you'll find loads of people with the same issues.
Id get another one but I can't afford to keep buying phones when one ****s up. And yea the screens supposed to go black when you put it to your head but it was going black and staying like that so I could end calls, use the num pad, use speaker phone, or any of that. I found a work around but the proximity sensor is supposed to work

Search google for ANY electronic device followed by the keyword 'issue / problem' and you are sure to get pages of results. People that don't have problems (most people) typically don't post about it while people with issues regularly post because they want the issue resolved. This gives an artificial bias to the negative and only reinforces the already tainted view of people in a mindset that something is rubbish.

I agree, since the last update I haven't had very many problems at all. And since I haven't been having issues I haven't been coming to the forums as much. I just come in every once in a while now to see if there's anything new. I'm not constantly hounding for an answer to my problems on a daily basis since I don't have problems. It's my guess that other people who have perfectly working phones would have like minds as me... or just not visit the forums at all.
No bricking during factory reset (had to do it once and I'm not going to do it again just to prove a point).
Battery life is awesome.
Hardware buttons are working fine.
Blank screen during calls isn't an issue for me since the proximity sensor works almost all the time, I think.... at least, it hasn't been a big enough concern for me that I actually notice it.... guess I should keep track of it.

This is also the main thing I'm missing, coming from Nokia N8 the situations was really a great app...
I think Nokia lumia phones in general have a lot of issues, as does Windows Phone. It's just there are so few users even if there was a problem, it would seem isolated. Microsoft's share in the smartphone market didn't even budge at all in 2012. WP users are not power users so they just run back to the store to get an exchange. Even the lumia 920 forum at wpcentral.com is slow as molasses. 90% of the posts are very shallow anyway. Most don't even know what screen size their phone is or what processor its running. the camera is just AMAZING and the phone is PERFECT, over and over again. Of course, this forum isn't any better. The only difference being the plethora of unlock threads, because xda is international.
Your description of WP users is fairly accurate & the market segment MS is going after. The enthusiast market is small & even on Android accounts for a very small % of sales. The easiest way to solve an issue is by exchanging the phone, if you have that option available to you. A lot of issues people are having are either caused by defective hardware or a bad flash IMO, which is an issue on any of the platforms.
Do people not expect bugs and hiccups at launch for these kinds of devices?
It happens. And it's not as bad as you perceive; it's not a conspiracy.
AW: The great Lumia 920 conspiracy.......
If ms allows developers create store accounts for free I bet there would be more apps on store.,.
I get what you guys are saying, but phone busting issues like that black screen on calls and bricking on hard resets shouldn't be common enough to have a thread full of people experiencing them.
If anyone knows of any way to get the phone to read SIM cards again, I'd like your help. I still miss using my lumia 920 :'(

I have experianced just about every issue in this thread. I have users of the 920 I support for other stuff and I see how they basically ignore them as they did on their Blackberry or iPhone. I had the brick issue... news flash as I posted in another thread, it is not bricked!!! use the Nokia Care Suite, gets you going no problem. During my day I may deal with just about every phone they see at an AT&T store (Tmobile, Sprint,or Verizon for that matter)... they all have issues. Have you ever seen an iPhone user change their password on their laptop and not update the iPhone? Lets say you need to get to something before updating that password, like they changed the server setting trying to update it... go ahead try it. Drop calls, Steve Jobs had to properly instruct dumb iPhone users how to hold an iPhone. Andriod, perfect????? WTF are serious?? And becuase of that piece of software, it does not matter what hardware you are talking about.
My phone is limited compared to Andriod, I can agree with that.... but I can do more with fewer Apps and I like that. The 920 has had some hiccups along the way, but the hardware I have right now is as solid as any other phone out there, actually physically a tougher phone then any other top tier phone.

This is exactly what I was trying to get at. These sorts of issues and threads are everywhere for many high profile smartphone launches, especially lately with this insane obsession with HW spec wars.
I've seen much worse, many times, you will not buy a high end smartphone at launch these days without having some sort of worry that there will be a game-breaking bug or defect.
WP 8 for 3 months:
NO ISSUES
POWER USER (i had portico when the first roms were available on navi)
my question is, are all these faulty devices on ATT or another crap american service , cause i think this may be your problem, ive had to work on vodaphone orange tmobile and ee 920's and 820's and i can say with pride that the only issue people have is the lack of popular apps., there is no conspiracy. why the eff are you people needing to hard reset anyway wtf are you doing to your phones?
I have to admit I've been having freezing issues regularly, often when it's just sat on my desk or in my pocket, and almost every night while on USB charge. I've also noticed on the odd occasion a reboot, but only because of my SIM being PIN locked.
Mine was a German Vodafone one, which I flashed on day 1 to the CV_GB ROM, then again to CV_GB Portico ROM. Maybe I'll try a different one, as I've heard the EE one has fewer issues.
