I just set my phone back to 2.3.4 to remove root. But I can't update it back to 2.3.6 again. It came with 2.3.6 on it.
My "About Phone" menu:
Model number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: I777UCKH7
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build number: GINGERBREAD.UCKH7
I can't find an update to manually download online that doesn't have root. I also tried using Kies on OS X to check for updates but it says that my version is the current version. I also checked for updates on the phone, but I can't check for another 8 hours. Could that be effecting Kies?
So my question is: How do I get my phone back to 2.3.6?
There is no unrooted UCKK6 distribution available, as far as I know. The over the air update to 2.3.6 should work as long as you do it immediately after flashing the stock 2.3.4 package followed by a wipe data/factory reset. If you are unable to do the over the air update, you could flash the UCKK6 plus root package, and then use a root file explorer to remove:
/system/app/Superuser.apk
/system/xbin/busybox
/system/xbin/su
Just to be sure, check
/system/bin/busybox and
/system/bin/su
and delete if you find them.
reboot.
success... UCKK6 unrooted.
Thanks a ton for helping me out!
I had exact same problem, went to UCKH7 stock thanks to entropy, then tried overair update and update with kies no uck66 updates available. so then i flashed bidrohi ek i777 uck66 trimmed zip which was easily unrooted with super one click, but couldn't figure out how to get rid of cwm. Then i found this post and thank you, flashed uckk6 stock, and removed root now taking it back to walmart. I will let ya know how it goes.
Thanks again
Took the freshly unrooted and returned to stock (UCKK6) back to Walmart i was a little disappointed they didn't even turn it on just checked the numbers on the back with the box and receipt all good and thanks for all the good tips.

So my galaxy tab went kapoot and I want to make sure all signs of rooting are non-existant. So i got a clean flash on there and superuser is gone.
When I download something like titanium backup it is unable to obtain root access so does this mean all sign of rooting are gone?
under kernel it says 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#3

Yes, that means busybox and the other su files are most likely gone now, however "[email protected]" doesn't sound like the stock Sammy kernel, you should flash the stock ROM to have the stock kernel instead. In the market dl root checker, and it tells you if the device has root at all.

How do i get the stock kernel on there?
Is this kernel stock
please help
Help me please
Have you ever flashed your device with odin or kies? If so you'll need to flash it back to stock using one of those programs. Just download the stock ROM online and flash it back. The only downside is that apparently some devices record the number of times a ROM has been flashed.
Hello, sorry if my question had already been answered sometime, I'd be glad if you give me some advice.
I once tried to root my Samsung Galaxy S II using traditional method with odin, superoneclick and insecure kernel. It seemed to go well, but I didn't flashed stock kernel after (so when I reboot my phone, I see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, alongside with its name).
The problem is - I can't get an update through the Firmware update in phone settings, as it goes like this: I check for updates through phone settings, it says that an update for firmware is available, then it downloads the package, and goes into reboot, but when everything loads back, it says "Failed to update firmware", try again using PC software (Kies) or visit a Samsung service centre.
And when I try to connect to Kies, it either won't connect, or it would and say that an upgrade is available, I start doing backup and then "data backup cannot proceed because of an unexpected error"
Anyway, I'm ready to flash original firmware, I'm not really sure why I even rooted the phone in the first place. But maybe it's possible to do something to get updates through the phone without unrooting it?
I'm located in Russia, and the info via *#1234# is:

Kies says this:
Current firmware version: PDA:KE2 / PHONE:KDJ / CSC:KE1 (SER)
Latest firmware version: PDA:KI4 / PHONE: KI1 / CSC:KI1 (SER)
Any thoughts?
Heh, what are you doing here? You'd better visit this forum. In the header you can find in "Instructions" section the "Instruction for new user surviving". In russian Then read the thread and FAQ. Good luck. It's very easy to solve your "problem".
Or you can read first 3 posts of Intratech's thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Very useful IMO.

My Samsung galaxy S II is rooted and I would like to have new update. In this case what I have to do? Do I have to flash the original XWKE2 Stock Kernel again via ODIN or have to do something else?
Thank you in advance for your help!
yes, you would have to flash the original kernal for kies to work.
If you wan to update, why don't you use Odin and get the latest stock foirmware from Intratech firmware thread?

I've tried with Odin to flash the original kernal in my case XWKE2 but nothing happened. I lost the Download access. The superuser permission is still there and when I try to connect Kies it didn't work. Then I decided to wipe to data and to have factory settings BUT again superuser is there and no access to Kies...
Which of Intratech firmware will be suitable for my phone?
I would like to update my phone that's it. Any help, please.
How about mine.. i9100g how to unroot?

Any suggestion..

Finally I HAVE UNROOT device))
What I have done so far. First I flash the original firmware which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1075278 . If you NOT sure which one to use check the Build number and try the same firmware. My build number was finishing KE2 so I used XWKE2 even if the rooted firmware was XWKDD !!!!
Then the Superuser icon was still there. I have decided to wipe all my data and to try again to update. Eventually I succeed to update the phone. Even after wiping the data Superuser icon was still there. SO I connected my Galaxy S II to Kies and clicked on the firmware updates and did happened to work ;-)
So now I have Android Version 2.3.5. and NO root access.
Nice;-)
Hi there, I'm kind of lost, hopefully someone is willing to help me.
I want to sell my SII (a month old), that I rooted when I got it. Because of the warranty I want to unroot it now, before I sell it. So I went to this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and used Odin to flash install a file with the name
GT-I9100_XEN_I9100CEKI2_I9100XENKH1_I9100XXKI1 (the phone was bought here in the Netherlands, and since I have no idea what the original firmware was, I hoped this would be OK)
I then did a factory reset via the settings>privacy menu. Since it still had all my photos etc. I then did another reset by entering *2767*3855#
I then used KIES to update the firmware. KIES now says Service version: PDA:KJ3 / PHONE:KI4 / CSC:KJ1 (XEN). The phone says:
Baseband: I9100XXKI4
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKJ3-CL647431 [email protected]#2
Build number:GINGERBREAD.XWKJ3.
Since the word root is showing in the kernel version, I'm guessing it's still rooted. Also, when the phone did it's reset etc. it kept saying CSC couldn't access something..?
Can anybody help me out here? Is this phone unrooted? Is the warranty problem solved this way?
Thanks so much.
It will still say root on unrooted devices. Kies has installed a new kernel it would of unrooted it. But for your piece of mind, theres plenty of root checkers on the market.
how much are you trying to get for it?
Hi,
i bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 about two months ago, it's a Spanish device. I think the device came with 4.0.1 update of ICS, some weeks after buying it got 4.0.4 update and then using CF-Root 6.4 and Odin 1.85 managed to get root access so i was able to install busybox and UMS application from xda forums. So everything was working fine. Then, about 3 days ago i got an update notification which showed me a message which said "Updates will be provided in the request order preference" or something like this, i tried to update a few times more but no luck, i always got the same messages so i thought i had to wait for 4.1 update to get published but anyway everything was working fine.
The curious thing is yesterday ( August 25, 2012), when i woke up i noticed a firmware update was ready to be installed so went through it (without uninstalling CF-Root 6.4, supersu, etc.) but the strange thing was, after the update completed fine, went to settings to check the version and i saw it still/again was 4.0.4 version of ICS. Also noticed Google Play Books and Google Play Movies got installed so on one hand it seemed everything went fine cause new apps were there and everything worked as expected but on the other hand i think i already had 4.0.4 update installed on the device. Till that point one can think i got confused on the versions i got installed before the update and no major problem here. After that, as i already had root access on the device, i went to check if i still could run UMS app but it complained about missing root access so as i did before that last Android update took CF-Root 6.4 and Odin 1.85 to flash the device and get root access again (Without removing any previous install of CF-Root, super su, busybox, etc. ) but had no luck, so now it's not possible for me get root access again but i'm also still wondering how is it possible that today's update left the phone with the same Android version as before the update.
The only explanation i can find is the phone came with 4.0 version, first update got me to 4.0.1 and today's update guided me to the 4.0.4 but i'm still wondering why root access is not working as it should.
So my questions are, did i got confused about each version update? Then why can't i get root access again just repeating the same first process?
When opening busybox i can read "Not Enough Free Space in /system". Opening /system directory with Root Explorer i can read 1.05GB used, 436.39MB free. Is it right /system directory takes up to 1GB of the space? Why Busybox thinks there is 0.0MB free there?
Hope someone can help. Thanks in advanced!
Thousands of posts say OTA updates may fail if the phone is rooted .

Thanks a lot for the info. Am i going to loose installed apps, system settings, etc when doing the suggested process? Do i really need to wipe the phone before flashing the phone? I suppose i can find stock rom for my model here in the forums. Thanks!!
Hi,
i'm looking for a stock firmware for my SGS3 BaseBand I9300XXLH1 but i'm not able to find it. I think the firmware which came with my phone is unbranded and from Spain. But the question which i'm wondering is, do i really need to flash the phone? Isn't possible to solve the issue in another manner? After updating through OTA the rooted device, what's supposed to went wrong?
Lastly, what's wrong on updating a stock rooted firmware using Phone/Android update system? Don't understand how doing that can break the phone forcing me to wipe data and flash the phone.
Hope someone can help. Thanks a lot!
PD: After rebooting the phone in recovery mode i can see stock recovery has been installed with last update. Hope someone can make a bit of sense about it all. Thanks in advanced.

Get your firmware from here http://www.samfirmware.com/
then use odin to flash it, I had the same problem
Baseband is modem not firmware.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thanks to both for your answers. Maybe it's stupid but i'm some what more peaceful knowing other people also happened the same issue although it still feels very weird. All i did is flashing with CF-Root 6.4.
I've been looking for the stock firmware which is supposed to came with my phone at sammobile site but i'm not able to find it, although at that point ( where the phone got the same update twice, 4.0.4 ) i don't think i can trust the information provided by the phone. Under phone settings i can see Model Number is GT-l9300 and Base Band Version is i9300XXLH1 but i can't find it no sammobile site. What i find at sammobile site is I9300XXBLH1 ( notice B letter ) but i think that before this weird behaviour happened the phone showed Base Band Version I9300XXBLFB.
Is it all possible or the weird one is me?
Kickasskev, did you got 4.0.4 update twice?
Thanks again to all!
REPEAT BASEBAND IS NOT FIRMWARE nor is it firmware version .
To locate firmware try CHECKFUS .
Or stock providers roms from the sticky on XDA .

0. Remove all root apps from your phone.
1. Back up your rooted rom in cWM.
2. Use triangle away to get rid of the traingle.
3. Format system and cache.
4. Flash an official rom.
5. You should have all your apps + settings on a stock rom without the status being 'modified'.

I've used checkfus and now i know my firmware.
Thanks for the step by step tips, but my phone is not rooted so i cannot use cwm, triangleapp and so. I. Annot also remove cwm manager nor supersu. I suppose i'll have to flash stock firmware first of all. Am i right?
Pretty strange, first time i rooted the device through cf-root6.4 it run flawlessly, but now i had to remove the battery after flashing ( while device was on ) and enter into recovery mode by hand which started the rooting process.
Thanks!
I've been trying to update to the 98.72.16 via from system version 6.16.211.xt912.verizon.en.us but it keeps saying the installation failed. I've removed the root, removed the Go Launcher, defrosted all frozen apps, and even did a hard reset. Nothing.
So I figured I must've deleted an app or two. So I've been trying to install a stock rom (blur.version.6.16.211.xt912.verzion.en.us) via the android recovery 3e so I can then go back and do an OTA of the 98.72.16, but every time I go install the zip via "/sdcard" it says "E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)". here is a link to the method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406550
Can someone help me to either install the old stock ROM or help me install the new update? Also, FYI, I'm only one notch above noob when it comes to this stuff.
About phone:
System version: 6.16.211.xt912.verzion.en.us
