Enable noise cancellation when talking with earphones on - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I am running aokp (latest by task) on my sgs2-i777.
Problem - Whenever I talk to someone with earphones on...they complain me about getting lot of noise but I can hear them fine...and if I talk without earphones they can hear me fine as well. They describe noise as - when you have phone close to tv or car radio and someone calls...tv/radio speakers emits kind of tutututuuututu...sound.
What I tried - I tried installing Phone.apk from GNex rom...but it didn't helped...if someone know a solution to this...please help...flashing a stock rom will be last thing I want to do.

Noise cancellation only applies when using the device's own mics - if using a separate mic it does nothing.
Get a properly shielded headset... Or move to a location that has 3G service instead of 2G.

Thanks for reply...I'll try samsung's earphones that came with phone...just wondering never had this problem with 2.3.7 build.

Anyone having problems with headsets with mics.?

On my and my son's phone; when are talking to someone, they are complaining they can't hear us properly when using wired headsets with microphone. I've used 4 different headsets, all with the same results. 2 of them were cheap ones, 1 of them was an expensive pair. All with the same results on both phones.
People complain that it sounds like we are far away.
I had my son call me on his SGS2 using the headsets and I listened on both a Blackberry I have, and an Iphone. What it sounds like is when you say a word, the entire word doesn't come through the other end. For example: If you say the word "Doghouse" it might come on the other end as "oghouse" or "ghouse."
Almost like the phone is not translating analogue voice to digital sounds quick enough or completely. This has been tried in several coverage areas so I know its not that.
The problem is with both phones. Each phone has a different case. The problem existed before and after rooting. (Happened right out of the package)
I've used both Entropy and Siyah kernels. Also tried the SGS_InCall_Volume_Fix.
Anyone else having this problem? Also, If not; then what wired headset with mic. are you using?
Thank You in Advance!
ATT I777
Unnamed 2.2.1
Siyah 2.6
I had the same issue with CM 7.1 nightly 11 and my Scoche headset (made for iPhone, unfortunately). Great headphones, but horrible sound quality. I haven't tried the same headset on my phone that's now running UnNamedROM 2.2.1. Probably the same result.
Is noise cancellation disabled? You might want to try that out, but CM 7 doesn't have noise cancellation anyways... If only we had access to the service menu... there are settings in there to change it.

There it is. I'll try it tonight and see if it's better quality. Thanks sent to you!
I forgot to mention; I've tried with noise cancel on and off, and there was no difference. (Or noise suppression?)

Huh.. that is odd... I know how to fix it then, its a setting in the Service menu that changes the dB required to "activate" the microphone... but again, AT&T locked the Audio part of that menu...
I haven't had an issue..Use the Samsung headphones typically, and also some Skullcandy ones.
Yes. Same problem, with Hello Direct Ultralight headset. Audio output (mono, through the single ear speaker) is fine. Audio input via the microphone is not working. I'm using a 2.5 -> 3.5mm adapter but it has 3 conductors and probably is not the problem.
Phone has not been rooted... yet.
Any other suggestions appreciated...
Thanks
Tim
I use Bose MIE2 and also Klipsch S4A without any mic issue.

I9300 - Suddenly: No sound at all

Hello dear friends,
I've been running my I9300 for about 1 1/2 years now. Yesterday, after weeks and weeks of not changing anything (PA3.99RC2), the speakers AND microphone stopped working. So now sound when playing music, no sound during calls and no functionallity of the microphone (Google Voice and Calls). The only thing, which can be related to this issue was a testing of an old external speaker, which i connected to the phones audio jack (and which did not work but did crackling sounds).
I am sure its not a software issue, as I allready reflashed PA3.99 and also returned to 4.1.2 and 4.3 stock rom. What I can say is, that the phone is running quietly well and fast, WiFi, internet, all. But: If I run something with a sound, e.g. tapping on the loudness controll or even starting mp3 or youtube it becomes laggy and stuttering, even rebooting sometimes.
My last workaround was to connect a bluetooth headset to have an "external soundcard" but i still get no sound at all and it becomes to lag.
In my opinion, the soundchip of the device was grilled by using the damaged external speakers and so it responds weirdly to signals -> generating lags on use. Do you have other ideas what could be wrong?
Now for a solution: I think, buying a new (old) mainboard on ebay and changing that part might be the best possibility. Or do you think, the damaged module is in the upper part with the audiojack and the antenna?
Thanks a lot in advance,

I would suggest to consult a mechanic, rather than trying by yourself.

Ah, almoust forgot this:
The mechanic told me that changing one of the audio chips would cost 89€. Changing both chips would cost 130€.
I got a new (used) mainboard for 50€, changed it and everything is working well (including all those reidculous data not wiped on the new chip ;P)
Greetings!

[Q] Noise cancellation issue after updating *FIXED

My phone has root, S-off, and I just updated it with the latest radio from Captain_Throwback (3.17.651.4). Right after doing that I flashed a new rom. I don't do many phone calls but after a couple days I realized people could hardly hear me. I restored the backup I had done before switching roms but I have the same issue there now. I'm guessing the problem came up from the radio update. If I yell the mic picks it up and passes it along. If I turn on speaker phone or plug in headphones the mic works perfect. Any idea on this one?
*I figured out this is the noise cancellation feature not working correctly. I blocked off the mic at the top and it works just fine. I thought it was strange that it was feeding my voice back to me, that's why. Any thoughts on disabling the noise cancellation? I took a quick look but didn't see any help.
**Got tired of waiting for help so I ran the 4.3 RUU. Working just fine now.

[Q] Noise/hissing in speaker during calls (quiet)

Hi, everyone!
I'm G850F owner, and I have quiet noise/hissing in top speaker during calls. It's there all the time GSM is working, including tones before pickup.
It sounds like old radio receiver between stations. Doesn't disturb phone calls, however it's still very annoying. Not everyone hears it.
It's constant volume level, independent of call volume, so it's best heard when volume is at minimum and between dial tones. Same sim-card sounds ok in other phones.
I've heard about "Comfort noise" thing, but not sure that is it: I've tried 10+ different phones and smartphones, and only 1 old Nokia sounded like that. And it's not comforting at all
I've even went to shop and they gave me another device to test - same result. Device was from same batch as mine, however.
So... the question is: do you hear it, how is it comparing to other devices, and do you have some more information?
P.S. When recording call and then listen to recording using same speaker - no noise. So it's either interference from GSM module to speaker, or I don't know what ) Maybe it's software? Then there should be a way to remove/lower it.

Hmmm i do not know what it is. But just FYI I have come across a few threads about this issue for the Alpha on a Swedish Android forum (Swedroid) . A couple of people there are having this issue. So far I have not seen any solution.
Interesting! Just got mine and I have the same problem. So it's just us or everyone has that problem? When I use the earphones it gets a whole better! Is it common or I should return mine asap?
Common unfortunately. I've got used to it ) Not all people hear it at all.

That's a pity coz I was almost sure that I got the perfect phone except from that apparently! that sound of a frying pan drives me nuts! Anyway since everyone has the same issue and I don't have a faulty one I can get used to it! Thanks a lot for replying!

[Q] Bluetooth full duplex calls on motorola xt894,xt897

Hello, All!
Motorola phones have obviously bluetooth issues. I found 3 different threads reporting same issue, but no answers(see links on the bottom of this post):
There is no full duplex capability.
I'm owner of Motorola Photon Q, and active user of bluetooth headset. If during call my counterpart begin to speak, my handset stops to send audio to counterpart. Especially if counterpart is in loudly environment - audio stream from me stops every few seconds.
This issue occurs only by cell phone calls. If i make VoIP call with CSIPsimple softphone - i doesn't happen, and everything work perfectly.
I did tests already with 2 different devices - Motorola Photon Q(xt897), Motorola Droid 4 (xt894), and four different headsets from Plantronics, Jabra, Sony, Allereli with stock Motorola firmware as well as Cyanogenmod 10 and latest milstone builds from Cyanogenmod 11. In all cases i was able to reproduce same issue.
Questions:
1. How can i debug/localize root cause?
2. Could is be issue caused by BlueZ->Bluedroid replacement?
3. Could is be issue caused by incompatibility of Motorola phones with non-motorola BT headsets?
4. Should i post it to any other resource?
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376988
Everytime i use a bt headset when the other part talk to me and i try to speak at the same time they can' t hear me. Today i made a test: i asked my wife to count from one to ten and i did the same together. Althought i was able to hear her, she wasn't able to hear me! I tried four different headsets and the problem is common. Sorry for my bad english.
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171653
I have tested ALL possible ROM's and none work! I now have the famous CyanogenMod 7, latest nightly build and no luck.
BT headsets only work as half-duplex !! Can you fuc'en imagine! WTF?! The other person can not hear your voice, while he speaks or some other backround noise comes from he's end.
I have Jabra Wave, which is awesome and it works with all other phones, Nokia that is. I have read on some forum that this is Motorola policy to prevent use of other than motorola headsets, WTF!!

I purchased this BH-501 headset today for my Defy to listen to music and to use in phone calls. The device pairs properly, the audio quality is good, buttons are working however during calls it seems that voice is breaking up and the volume is low (I can hear the other person perfectly however he can barely hear me and it breaks up every few seconds).
Best regards!

Hi there, I also experience issues with my XT897 and Bluetooth headsets. It also happens with Motorola headsets however, as I was using motorokr headsets for years until just recently, but regardless, I still have calls where the other person can't hear me at all, or they say I am very quiet.
This is intermittent however, as other people/calls work OK.
I have tried many ROM's, however I believe all the ROM's are developed from Cyanogen's base, so the issue is likely to be ingrained into them all if it is a CMRom/XT897 hardware error.
Try stock ROM & see how you go. I have for a brief time, and didn't notice any BT issues. I'm about to go back to stock (with some bloat removed) for another go.
Hope that helps.

BT answer mutes all audio, all other functions work
Two headsets - Blueparrot and cheap FM auto adapter. I can originate calls without error form wither unit. Incoming calls when answered cause the BT to be muted (both incoming and outgoing audio) but the call is connected. If I switch from BT to handset, call proceeds normally. Phone is Motorola Droid Maxx xt1080M running 4.4.4 SU6-7 "rooted" per CrashXXL, but this has never worked right. Originating call is fine, using BT to tether a tablet works fine. Only audio on answer seems mis-routed. Is there a diagnostic tool/app to examine BT connections? Oh yes, speaker phone also borked, but "Yako Elgoog" talks out of it just fine.
Replying to this thread to make sure it is saved for posteriority. I'm sure a few others have this issue. What do we have in common?
