What you need:
ADWLauncher EX
DesktopVisualizer
DesktopVisualizer ImageCrop (Trial)
Multipicture-LiveWallpaper
FolderOrganizer (light) … to get a text-style app-launcher-Pop-up
A 2D-graphics-tool of your Choice
Some time…
1 - Basic Setups (only modified settings, all others are default):
ADW-LauncherEX:
User Interface:
Density-hack: ON; New Icons: ON; Icon Size: 100; Main Dock: Deactivated
Homescreen
Columns: 10; Rows: 6; Widget-Overlay: ON; Statusbar: OFF; Homescreen Rotation: only horizontal
Applist:
Background-colour: all Black
Animation and effects:
Effect: slide; Scroll-speed: 125
On homescreen:
Statusbar removed (after creating 9 empty homescreens…)
Folder-Organizer:
Create Labels for each “Group/Type” of app you like to launch from homescreen, e.g. “maps” or “office”, add those labels to the selected apps.
Layout Labels: “List with text”
I renamed each app with two extra spacings in front of the original name, so the text is a little bit sliding away from the boundary of the applauncher-pop-up.
2 – Layout-elements:
I got four types of elements on my homescreen:
Green tiles are DV-widgets launching an app directly
Grey tiles are DV-widgets launching an Folder-organizer-folder-link ( add modified link -> activity: FO-folder-link -> choose Label)
Picture-Tiles are also DV-Widgets launching an app or a FO-folder, some of them are only backgrounds
Widgets-sizes / Image-sizes:
1x1 = 119 x 112px
1x2 = 119 x 230px
2x1 = 244 x 112px
2x2 = 244 x 230px
2x3 = 244 x 348px
2x4 = 244 x 466px
4x1 = 494 x 112px
4x2 = 494 x 230px
4x3 = 494 x 348px
4x4 = 494 x 466px
Menu-buttons are Launcher-action Links of ADWlauncherEX… with a transparent Icon (only “text”). “Text” is also an image, maybe you can use simple text - I doesn’t work for me because of the different text-sizes .... design is consistency!
3 - Creating Layout:
First think about organizing your different homescreens with app categories, which apps should be launched directly, which widgets you like to use and so on... e.g. I got a homescreen for “System”, “Video”, “Audio”... This step is important, because there is still a lot of things to do, so it saves up your time! I did all the Layout in my graphics-program and then exported all the icons... just a tip
More important: KEEP IT SIMPLE! Don´t create to much colours and elements! The XBMC-Dashboard and Metro at all are this amazing because of their simplicity!!!
(...)
I tested many ways of how-to setup this amazing metro-style-Dashboard (shout on me, I really love this clean desktop-style WP7 and Win8 have….) on my homescreen, three of them are most interesting:
V1: “Pure”
All Tiles are created with background, no transparency. This is great if you like to change the positions of your tiles very often and do not use Widgets. You only need one background image for this. If you use widgets like colorizewidgets etc., positioning is not very accurate, Horizontal and vertical spacings are quite different... not very metro !!!
I tested using a “dummy-DV-Tile” in second Layer “behind” Widgets with transparent backgrounds. Sometimes it works, sometimes the dummy-widget gets in front... Widget-overlapping is not as accurate in the moment as needed for this...
V2: “background”
All Tiles are splitted up in two parts:
Part one is the “Colour”, baked into the background-image – each homescreen has its own image (use multilive-wallpaper for this...)
Part two is the DV-Icon itself, it is an Image with transparent background, only text and / or Icons are visible. The transparent background has to have same size as the tiles from V1. -> to keep its size and position on homescreen.
It is a little hard to get the right vertical position for the backed-in tiles, there seems to be an offset in positioning wallpapers with multilive-Wallpaper...
This Version works great for me, because i do not change my tiles very often. There is no problem with overlapping widget-backgrounds and so on...
V3: “Mixed up”
A combination of both: Tiles with “real” background and Tiles with transparent background, Colour backed into the wallpaper... Gives you a great assembling-effect when changing homescreen and all those different tiles are floating together....
(...)
As you can see, most things are done in a 2D-graphics-program. When finished with your Layout, all you have to do is exporting all your elements and put them together on your tablets homescreen...
(...)
I hope, this little tutorial might help you creating your own great homescreens!
One last thought:
Android is great because of its flexibility with ROMs, apps and modifications,...
But its Design is a bucket full of crap... there is no continuity in Design-elements, every apps looks different...
So thats why there is a little wishlist to make creating own designs much easier in the future, as long as google dosn´t change anything....;-) Maybe someone likes to create a homescreen-Launcher like this ??? ;-)
...a homescreen-launcher with layer-function to have better control over widget-overlapping
...the possibility to resize widgets without being fixed to a grid
...better rendering of Textelements, icons and widgets
...more widgets with pushed informations like incoming mails etc...
...the possibility of resizing Icons without loss of quality (why are 192px-icons rendered like 72px-ones???)
...smoother animations between those homescreens (my prime is powerful.... but why are there some lags in changing homescreens???)
...and many more...
Greetings, Charlos
----------
additions:
120411 : Added original (selfmade) Wallpaper.... PNG 1280x800px... use it as basis for your V1 or V2-Version of the Dashboard-Style homescreen...
120416 : Just an idea ( I am capable in graphics, ´cause of my profession, not in programming....): to design homescreen-designs based on tiles, easiest way would be to have a universal widget for links... needed settings:
- background: a) - a flat colour, selected by colour-picker, or b) - a picture or a part of it ... all stretched to maximum of widget-size (independently stretched to X / Z - axis) or variable with a slider, to control horizontal and vertical spaces between widgets
- background-settings: e.g. rounded edges (global alpha-map), transparency, global colour,...
- text-area (like simple-text) with settings for position, size, font ...reference would be widget-width and height (1,2,3,4,5...)
- icon area, also with settings for position and size, and capable of using PNGs with alpha-map... and - maybe - the possibility to choose render quality seperatly (picture maps with 72, 128, 254, 512px render-map)
all elements like shown in my example could be made with such an universal - widget - without the need of managing all elements in a 2D-graphics-tool... would be a little bit easier for all of us ;-)
...maybe somebody is cabable in programming, `cause of profession, and not in graphics? send me a PM!

Awesome!
FIRST!!
I love the xbox dashboard and I think I'll try set this up today, will let you know how it goes! It looks like you've put a lot of effort into this!

If...
...I missed some settings.... tell me, I will add it in the tutorial...

Looks great! Thank you for sharing this!

This is great, looks beautiful. I've been lazy about doing my hubs, but after seeing this, I'm getting off my butt and getting to it.

where can i get the wallpaper?

What's the original resolution that you used for your wallpaper? Otherwise making the tiles on the wallpaper would be annoying if they didn't line up with the widgets.

Hey, Thanks for the TUT...I am trying to follow all the instructions step by step but some settings I can not find, for example
Applist:?
Application color: All black
Where is the "homescreen" option? I did found the "colums" and rows" but not by following the guide
I'm not trying to sound demanding, just asking if this can be more precise please
Thanks!

I downloaded one of them and it's 1184x740.

hmmmmpf.... original Wallpaper is a png, 1280x800px.... maybe something went wrong when converting to jpg...

Sorry, i am using german version of ADW, have to translate it all....
but to take some time for searching gives you a lot of new knowledge about ADW, isn´t it this way??? ;-)
for "Applist-settings": go ADW-Einstellungen / Benutzeroberfläche / Appliste-Einstellungen / Hintergrundfarbe
translated (maybe): ADW-Settings / Userinterface / Appdrawer-Settings / background-colours /... hope so...

yeah im having some issues with this rom...i cant get the top status bar on ADW to go away and the settings are off screen which is weird...
great tutorial tho very well done ...maybe its just me not getting it to work well

Man I really love this layout but don't know where to start. I need a step by step instruction. Haha

I'm working on something similar with Nova Launcher. Basically, I've found that you really need to know how to work whichever image editing software you use.
The hardest part is getting the wallpaper to match the grid. Your tiles have to be accurately sized and precisely placed, or it pretty much ruins the look.
I should have my own interpretation of this done by tomorrow. Thank goodness for Photoshop.
Thanks, OP, for the awesome idea.

getting all icons into the grid was the hardest part of creating this layout.... thats right...
I took me a long time and many "Test-drives" to get it working.... Thats why i am using Version 2 (Background) right now - it is much simpler to create!
...even if it is not with "real tiles fllying into the screen" (would be much greater...!)
.... maybe with another launcher - would be interessting if it works better on Nova-launcher...

to remove the statusbar, just add a adwlauncher-action link on your homescreen: Statusbar on/off.... when removed (the statusbar) you can remove the link also....

Here's a video of what I ended up with on Nova Launcher Prime: link.
Not exactly XBOX-Dashboard style, and not exactly hubs either, but slightly similar and very clean. I'm enjoying it.
Thanks for the inspiration, Charlos.

wow...that looks really nice man! I just need time to make this work, but if you or Carlos can get a step by step tut that would be awesome

Looks great !!!
Any Lags with Nova Launcher ??? Did you test with more screens ???

I haven't had any lags, but I haven't tested beyond the 3 screens, since 3 is more than enough for me.
Not using a live wallpaper really helps cut the lag though. In the end, I ended up using individual tiles and Desktop Visualizer, because multi-pic lwp would keep stuttering.

I guess it should also work with the standalone iPhoneToday exe version, since I'm not using any function specific to the Today screen, but just the ReloadIcon and ReloadIcons feature of iPhoneToday 1.3.

Cool, that is what I figured each locations were for. However, I am having an issue getting it to work and I think it is with the location. Say I want weather for Sacramento, CA (USA). Here is the URL:
http://www.accuweather.com/us/ca/sacramento/94203/...
What is the location code? Is it us|ca|sacramento|94203 or us/ca/sacramento/94203?
I don't have TF3D, so I can't use MTP. So this is the only option.
------------------------
Here is how I have it setup, but it just sits there. I also use MEdia Net (AT&T); that setting worked for the old other weather icon program. Here is my weather.ini file
Code:
[User settings]
IPTWaccuWeatherMetric=0
IPTWaccuWeatherLocation=us/ca/sacramento/94203

Ok, I've figured out you have to search your location code on AccuWeather.com International and not on AccuWeather.com which is only for the US...
So for Sacramento in California, the location code is NAM|US|CA|SACRAMENTO

Using that worked!!!! However the website is frustrating, everytime I try and get the vofr for other US cities, since I am in the US, it forces me back to the normal site. Well at least I know where to look; thank you very much

Ok I think I fingured it out, just a few tests then I will post
AccuWeather Icons
Hello,
I have made some AccuWeather Icons...
Enjoy.
I have two answers and two questions:
- I only want to use WLAN so I left the internet connection entry empty, it works.
- Yes, it works with the exe- version of iPT.
Questions:
- Is it possible to integrate S2U2 like in moesfeld's yahoo- version?
- I tried to use weather icons from moesfeld, they seem to be disordered, show the wrong weather. Is there another order for the AccuWeather- icons?
THX & CU
@chancer63: since I don't use S2U2, I don't know if I'll make a version for it, but I'll take a look if I find some time.
For the icons, you cannot use icons used for Yahoo! Weather as the ones from moesfeld, because there are not the same as the ones for AccuWeather... these icons were done by Bluemetalaxe and he doesn't have time to remake 40 new weather icons, sorry.
Ok, I've taken a look at UserWeather in S2U2.
It seems you can display only one icon and forecast.
Which one do you want? The current forecast?
I may display for instance the current forecast icon, with a text below showing current temperature, current RealFeel®, current weather description, high temperature, high RealFeel®, low temperature, and low RealFeel®.
Something like that is ok for you?
2° (4°), Mostly Cloudy | Hi 3° (2°) / Lo 0° (-3°)
Perhaps the text will be too long... I don't kown.
Just tell me exactly what you want and I'll give it a try .
Day and Night icons?

Well done!
By the way, I'm working on a new version with many new stuff, to be released next week.
I'll also include an optionnal IPTWnightIconSuffix setting in the weather.ini file so that configuring different icons for night forecasts is easier than editing the config.xml.
2 recommendations, add a script killer and reg lock
Code:
RemoveNotifications(\iPhoneToday\IPTWeather\iPhoneTodayAccuWeather.mscr")
Here is the reg lock code:
At the start of the script add this:
Code:
#Lock reg
("HKLM","Software\iPhoneToday","lockRegistry",1)
And at the end put this
Code:
#Unock reg
("HKLM","Software\iPhoneToday","lockRegistry",0)
This way if another code is running, things don't get screwed up, and if you accidently hit the button many time, you don't end up with 20 or 30 scripts running.
I don't see the point of having a script killer for iPhoneTodayAccuWeather.mscr script, since this script is only run by the user and since it is written in the MortScript manual:
4.3 Multiple instances and aborting scripts
MortScript can run in multiple instances, but only once for each script.
If an already running script is run a second time, an open dialog of that script (e.g. Choice,
Message, ...) will be activated. If the script doesn't show any windows, nothing will happen.
Click to collapse
As for the lockRegistry thing, is it an iPhoneToday feature?
What will it change to add this entry?
Perhaps I should have a wait loop like that before updating the iPhoneToday registry, but this would work only if the other code running and using iPhoneToday uses this kind of loop too:
Code:
While (("HKLM","Software\iPhoneToday\lockRegistry") <> 0)
Sleep(1000)
EndWhile
#Lock reg
("HKLM","Software\iPhoneToday","lockRegistry",1)
#Update iPhoneToday registry
#... and unlock reg at end
("HKLM","Software\iPhoneToday","lockRegistry",0)
Perhaps I'm wrong, so please explain me.
Looking back at your script, the kill is not needed, so please ignore that part. As for the lock, it is only needed if someone is running multiple scripts that edit the icons. For example, if this is running and then the battery script starts, they can cause some wierd icon changes and mess up the icons and notes. It is not needed, but just an idea
[edit] Yes, competly ignore the lock and kill parts. I did not fully understand your scripts and these 2 things will only mess things up.

UPDATED TUTORIAL
[/CENTER]
The general idea of "Hubs" is to create a dedicated screen for each piece of media/productivity while providing a visual eye candy. "Hubs" is easy to emulate, and even easier to create your own style. Despite the lengthy tutorial, its actually easier than it seems. The fun part comes with setting up you layout!
What you'll need:
Main
Adw Launcer EX
Launcher Pro Plus
Multi Live Wallpaper
Minimalistic Text
Simple Text
Optional
Pulse (for widgets)
Cowon Clock/ BobClock Widget
Mizuu Movies
Launcher Pro Plus (Widgets)

WALKTHROUGHADW Launcher Users[/U][/B]
-To remove top bar-Press and hold and empty area on your home screen then click on "Launcher Actions" > "Hide/Show Action Bars"
-Enable Widget Overlapping-"Menu"> "ADW Settings"> "UI Settings" > "Screen Preference"> Check "Overlap Widgets" in the Advanced Settings Tab
-Increase Retail Space on your screen-"Menu"> "ADW Settings"> "UI Settings" > "Screen Preference"> Increase the desktop "Rows" and "Columns" in the "Desktop Layout" Tab.
Launcher Pro Plus Users- while not optimized for 3.2, it still runs perfect.
-Increase Retail Space on your screen-"Menu"> "Preference" > "Homescreen Settings" > Increase the "Number of columns/rows" in the Homescreen Grid.
-Remove Icons From Right Dock- Hold your finger on the icon you wish to remove> "change shortcut"> "Blank"
*You may add screen transitions for each launcher if you wish, however my advise is to leave it at default as you can set transition for Multi Live wallpaper. Doing both launcher and MLW will make your screen look "too busy" IMO.
To set the "Bars" (Titles for "Home", "Music", "Movies" etc.)
Minimalistic Text
-To set title- Press and hold a free space on the screen > "widgets" > "Minimalistic Text" (size may vary per style however I use either 4x2 or 6x1 as long as its horizontal > ensure that "background color" is checked > "Predefined Layout" > "Custom" > "Custom Layout" > Click on the plus sign > "Misc" > "Static Text".
-Black Bar Tutorial click here
Wallpapers
-Set up - Load up your wallpapers on your sd card/internal memory and placing them into seperate folders and name them based on the images (ex. Music, Movies, Games etc)
- Long press an empty screen on your homescreen > "Wallpapers" > "Live Wallpapers"> "MultiPicture Live Wallpaper"> "Settings"
- For each "Screen _ Settings" Select the picture source as "Picture Folder" and navigate it to point to your corresponding homescreen.
- Additionally you make select the screen transition here that reflects your particular taste. You may also set a default wallpaper for your lockscreen.
Despite the dozen of widget on the homescreen and live wallpaper, battery use is minimal.I have provided wallpapers below to help you get started.
NAVIGATING BETWEEN HUBS
There are two methods in which you can navigate to each individual homescreen.
Method one: Prior/Alternate way for navigation text was achieved using this methodby trekkie0927. Using invisible icons in tandem with minimalistic text can make it easier to flip to each hubs. Please rate/comment his video.
Method two: I found a great alternative to Minimalistic Text in terms of using the text buttons to jump from one screen to another called Simple Text. Since it's only an icon and not a widget, it consumes no memory and provides a great minimal look.
User AcIdC0R3 has posted a great tutorial. (Please thank him!)
Make sure you have ADWLauncher EX
Go to the market and install Simple Text
Long press on the screen and select 'Custom Shortcut'
'Pick your activity', select 'Launcher Actions'
Choose which screen you want, 1 - 5 or 1 - 7 if your using seven screens
Click on the picture of the 2 screens side by side
Select 'ADWTheme IconPacks' and select 'Simple Text'
Select the grey box named 'Simple'
replace the word 'Simple' with whatever of your choosing like 'Video' for your video hub or 'Social' for your social media hub and so forth
Adjust your text size, Y and X coordinates, your shadow settings etc.
Click the little blue 'A' in the top right side of the screen and select your font (more on fonts further down)
You also have the option to select the color wheel next to the 'A' and adjust your text color
Select the menu icon on the task bar at the bottom and select 'Save Style' if you want to keep what you created for later use as well.
Click 'Save Icon' which will create your icon for you
Back at the black edit screen remove the text from the text field and click OK
You should now have a custom text icon that will activate whichever screen you chose for it. You can click any app icon on your screen and follow the same procedure for your apps so all your apps also have text icons.
[FONTS] In a file manager go to /sdcard/Simple Text/ and create a folder named 'fonts' (that is plural with an 's' at the end). Next go to somewhere like dafont.com and download you some kewl fonts and place them within that 'fonts' directory you just created. Now when you go into Simple Text to do your editing you will have more fonts to choose from.
That's all there is to it.
You can also work with layers within the creation of your Simple Text. Notice below where I created a new layer, rotated my new text layer and intersected where both words have the letter 'E'.
However you may notice that simple text does have it's limitations:
Icons can only be 1x1
Works best on adw
No way to resize; it is only an icon after all.
Miscellaneous
ISSUE: You may experience widget being placed "behind" the black bars. If so try this method provided by user SwiftLegend
1. Put the widgets/icons you want on TOP of the blackbar FIRST. You need these before anything.
2. Select a Minimalistic Text Widget, I usually use 1x1. Clear out the text options (Predefined layout > Custom, delete all of the things there)
3. Once you're back at your homescreen and see the MT Widget, just long press and re size it to your liking.
You HAVE to make sure that whatever you want on TOP of the blackbar is put on the screen FIRST. Anything put on after will go underneath.
ISSUE 2: Users have reported that Minimalistic Widget refuses to post/ show up on the homescreen.
1. Turn your tablet into portrait mode.
2. Add the widget whilst staying in portrait mode as you apply you designs.
3. Rotate back to landscape.
ISSUE 3: You can no longer take full advantage of the screen real estate using adw ex (particularly the corners)
1. Recent update kills the use of every inch of the screen. In his attempt to emulate ICS, anderwebs made the edges of the screen inaccessible.
2. Revert back to an older version (1.3.3)

One quick question...which launcher are you using? Is it just the default ADW without a dockbar?
adw ex. with no transitions as it lags a bit and looks less impressive (imo) on a larger screen.
What's the main widget on your Home screen?
Great work man. Seconding the question about your home screen widget. (The one with the weather and the time etc)
combination of minimalistic text, digital clock widget (by maize) and beautiful widget. Photo is "photo widget"
Cool, can you tell us how you got it to all look like one widget? My beautiful widgets and photo widget don't have the same background, so they don't look like they're all under the same "bar".
Also what are the widgets on your games screen? One looks like it's for xbox live and the featured widget at the bottom looks interesting.
This is an awesome idea. I set mine up with launcher pro and the text widget. I used the wipe effect for the wallpapers and I am quite happy with it.
Sent from my NookColor
What exactly is your number of columns and rows set to in the adw settings?
im using 10x10.
again those bars are minimalistic text with background and overlapped over icon/widgets
Ahh, ok regular adw launcher doesn't do overlap.
Can you tell us what those widgets on your games pages are?
Yes. Sorry I should've been more specific. I used adw launcher EX. Games sections is minimalistic text and my Xbox gamercard is spark 360
Anyone else having problems getting the images to change when you scroll to differnt screens? No matter what directory i set it to I just get a message "Picture not avail. Need to setup or reload". I have added five screens in the settings but it always stays on screen 3 when I scroll through the five that I have. Any specific setting you all are using?
You can run into issues with different launchers and settings like "Enable wallpaper scroll". All I can tell you is that adw.launcher seems to be the most compatible of the free launchers that I've tested out with Multipicture.
If you're on adw, try toggling the wallpaper scroll setting ad restarting your launcher.

Hey guys I finally ported my "hubs" set up to Android Tablets and I have to say its 10x smoother on our 1.0 ghz quad core device.

Adw Launcer EX
Launcher Pro Plus
Multi Live Wallpaper
Minimalistic Text
Simple Text
Optional
Pulse (for widgets)
Cowon Clock/ BobClock Widget
Mizuu Movies

ADW Launcher Users

UPDATE 9/20 NAVIGATING BETWEEN HUBS

Adjust your text size, Y and X coordinates, your shadow settings etc.
Click the little blue 'A' in the top right side of the screen and select your font (more on fonts further down)
You also have the option to select the color wheel next to the 'A' and adjust your text color
Select the menu icon on the task bar at the bottom and select 'Save Style' if you want to keep what you created for later use as well.
Click 'Save Icon' which will create your icon for you

Hi there,
This is a great post, and thanks for mentioning my app, Simple Text. But I want to add some info that Simple Text now has supported widgets, so If you want icons bigger than 1x1, you can use it. Currently it only has 1x1, 1x2, 2x1, 2x2 widgets but I'll add more sizes soon.
Hey,
This will take forever, cant you just upload your backup of this? in the adw ex launcher?
on before hand thanks

Hi redphx,
Can you tell me where simple text stores the graphics it creates? I don't want to have to create the same icon for each page.
Thanks!

Op,
Thanks for posting this....one note though...your wallpaper link does not work because of where its hosted.....there are a few of your wallpapers I would love to add to my desk top that I have not been able to find too. If you need a place to host them I have plenty of space on my drop box if you wanted to send them to me.......
PM me if you would like that.
Yeah I'm pretty pissed bout that.
Unfortunately I no longer have those wallpaper

I too would love it if you uploaded your entire theme.
In the meantime, how'd you change the font for your icon labels in the video? That's not a simple text thing is it?
Edit: I've decided to go the simple text with no icon route, so scratch that question.
So I just got my HUBs setup done and I love it, however now that the TP is unlocked I will want to start flashing ROMs.
If I flash a ROM and wipe data/cache how easy is it to restore my HUBS?
It took me a couple days to complete the setup and if the adw restore feature doesnt restore it well, I will be dissapointed....

I haven't followed the following procedures as of yet, but a number of users have reported the following as one way to preserve your hubs so you mileage may vary:
1.) In adwex settings scroll to the bottom and hit both options to save your layout.
2.) Using titanium backup adwex
Restoring :
1.) Ensure that you have the Widgets installed first
2.) Restore with TB
3.)restore layout from adw ex
If that doesn't work this method at least saves your layout sans the widget which you'll have to try to apply again. Folders, simple text icons will remain in tact. If you use minimalistic text you can save those too through the settings.
Good luck, hoped it worked

Thanks a lot for figuring this all out and taking the time to post instructions for everyone. I used your instructions in the nook color forum when I set up my prime and I love the way it looks. Really creative use of the apps.
Noob Question
Love the way this looks ,but I have a simple question.. How in your video do you have 7 Screens? Mine only has 5..Is there a setting to increase the number of screens?

You need to edit the screens by using the adw bar at the top of the screen. Add the launcher action to the desktop and tap it to make the bar appear/disappear

Ok so I CANNOT get the blackbar (Transparent Bar) to stay behind the icons (SimpleText) on my homescreen. All the other 6 screens are find, but the homescreen seems to no like it.
If I remove it and readd it, it will work like it should. Then if I rotate the screen or turn it off it puts the bar in front of the icons again.
Needs a better launcher than adw & pro. They both just feel like HC launchers and not ICS launchers like Nova.
I started mine with adw, but scroll-able widgets wouldn't work, kinda gave up after that. Adw needs to be optimized for ICS.
Until then, am just gonna wait for a better launcher.

What are some of the other benefits Nova offers over ADW aside from scrolling widgets (which I desperately want)? I feel like ADW is about as customizable as it gets--far more so than any of the competition.

Customizations of ADW are the reason why I'm still sticking with it. Otherwise, I would have preferred Nova or stock ICS launcher.
great post been wondering what I could do to make the rest of my screens useful and this is definitely a creative way to do so and amazing look if I say so my self good job on the how to vids. now I am going to spend a few hours trying to perfect a layout on my tfp

There're still some bugs (dock appears when switching tabs in app drawer) and miss (infinite scroll in dock, folders in app drawers etc.) but it's a really good news to see it alive again ! Happy Halloween ! :silly:

I use ADW launcher, and I would like to do a theme whitout "borders" on the widget.
Here's a pic of my problem:
Also if you can't see it clarly, there is a little space between Flipboard widget and the bottom of the screen, and that small line is driving me crazy.
Any idea ?

[MOD][GUIDE] Make The Hottest Android HomeScreens Yourself

With its subdued simplicity, Naturally Android won over plenty of fans -- and won its designer a nice new Nexus 7 tablet. So how's it made?
Creator Joe Rochinski said his main goal was to create something that was both simple and visually striking.
"I've never liked the look of home screens packed full of widgets and mismatched icons," Rochinski says. "There's an app drawer to house all your app shortcuts, so let's leave them in there!"
Rochinski found his background on DeviantArt.com. He then used an app called Wallpaper Wizardii to scale and position it just the way he wanted.
Nova Launcher Prime, a popular custom Android launcher, allowed Rochinski to eliminate extra home screen panels and also remove the separator line between the Favorites Tray and the rest of the screen. Nova also made it easy for him to swap out the icons to his own custom creations.
Speaking of those icons, Rochinski relied on an app called Simple Text to build them along with his custom app drawer button. He used Minimalistic Text, meanwhile, to make the clock and weather widgets.
"You don't need to be an expert programmer to get a similar look on your own phone," Rochinski says. "I hope this theme will inspire others to try their hand at their own home screen and make some more beautiful designs where less is more."

How to make The Explorer home screen
Greg Wright's Explorer home screen got lots of attention, and for good reason. Wright's creation is actually even cooler than you might realize, as many of the visual elements are interactive: Tapping the compass opens Google Now; tapping the caliper toggles the notification bar; tapping the lion at the bottom of the map opens a folder of frequent apps; and tapping the date at the top opens the system clock. The paper scroll at the bottom-left, meanwhile, shows a dynamic representation of the phone's current battery level.
Like the last setup, Wright's home screen uses Nova Launcher Prime to accomplish some of its magic. The wallpaper comes from Wallbase.cc; the widgets for the date, time, and battery level were all made using the Ultimate Custom Widget (UCCW) application along with a font called FoglihtenNo06 (Google it and you'll find several sites offering free downloads.
As for the interactive functions, Wright used Nova Launcher to create shortcuts on the spots he wanted and then set their icons to be blank images. That makes it seem like you're tapping the actual map instead of a regular app shortcut.

How to make the Organizus Optimus home screen
Like Amirul Farhan's eye-catching creation? You aren't alone.
Farhan built the setup using Apex Launcher, an alternative to Nova with many similar features (either app could really work for any of these configurations). Within the launcher's settings, he set the home screen grid to 9x5 and four panels.
He then created a custom set of wallpapers, one for each panel. He uses an app called MultiPicture Live Wallpaper in order to have each panel display a different background.
That's where things get a little more complicated. I'll let Farhan explain it:
Start on the first homescreen. Using Apex action, place an app drawer shortcut on the square icon (at picture's bottom right corner).
Next, using Apex action as well, place the shortcut to screen 2, screen 3, and screen 4 on the star icon, ribbon icon, and the conversation bubble icon, respectively. Repeat this step on screen 2, screen 3, and screen 4.
This is the tricky part: hiding the icon we placed earlier to make it blend with the wallpaper. You need a blank icon, easily downloadable from the Internet. Note that although you cannot see this icon in gallery, it's there. Long-press the shortcuts placed earlier, and replace the icons with the blank icon.
Got all that? Good. From there, Farhan used a series of widgets and icons to accomplish his effects. They include:
• Minimalistic Text Widget with a font called Billabong for the titles at the top of each panel.
• Eye in Sky Weather for the forecast on the "Weather and Status" screen and Widgetsoid for the power bar at the bottom of that panel.
• Icons from Minimal MIUI Go Apex Theme for the shortcuts to the apps on the "Leisure" screen and Minimal Reader for the headlines at the bottom of that panel.
• Brilliant Quotes for the rotating quotes at the bottom of the "Work and Productivity" panel.
• Android Pro Widgets for the social widgets on the "Social Circle" panel.

How to make the Robot Control home screen
Tim Alvarez's Robot Control configuration was the most popular of all the designs featured in this month's challenge. To make it, Alvarez says he started with a background from DeviantArt.com, which he resized and cropped down in Photoshop to fit his device's screen. He also modified the image to add in some elements and erased parts of it to make room for active widgets.
The Calendar, Media, Apps, and Files icons are all built into the wallpaper; Alvarez used transparent icons to add invisible shortcuts on top of those areas.
He used Ultimate Custom Widget (UCCW) to create the clock/date widget, the battery percentage and ring widget, and the bottom widget with the weather, missed calls, missed texts, and current location.
For the music player, Alvarez used a version of Phantom Music Control with his own custom icon modifications. He also made his own custom icons for the dock at the bottom of the screen.
Oh yeah -- and there are some custom animations and sound effects involved, too. You can see 'em in action on Alvarez's YouTube channel.
Lucky for you, Mr. A is willing to share his efforts. You can download a zip file with all the aforementioned elements on Dropbox.

How to make the Serenity Now home screen
Ben LeFevre says his Serenity Now setup is "deceptively simple."
The clock uses the ever-popular Ultimate Custom Widget (UCCW) app along with a custom skin. The clock has some powerful hidden functionality, too. As LeFevre explains:
It consists of two widgets -- the center one and the left one. An invisible shortcut is placed over the arrows on each widget that swaps to the other home screen. Using Apex Launcher's Accordion transition effect and turning wallpaper scrolling off, this makes the drawer look like it's expanding/closing.
The Search and Play Store icons on the left UCCW widget are UCCW hotspots (shortcuts built into UCCW). The down arrow that brings up further apps is just an image, with a Circle Launcher widget over the top.
You can find the wallpaper here and the icons here and here.

dude you have to be CREATIVE stick on minimalistic and go for every option. it tooks 4 hour to make a homescreen like this.
here is a little suggestion to make widget's like this.
1. choose custom layout always in predefined layout
2. in custom layout make the layout pattern to match the widget then choose style for each of them (normal/accented/non-accented)
3. now in text style window; select size, color, font of each style
4. time to preview the widget
some screenshot to help you
